So I decided to go back this year because the manager wasn't there soon as she walked in she violated my rights. She discriminated against me and started yelling at me about putting a report on yelp and the review what I put regarding the service that I got what a discrimination. I told him they're gonna hear from my attorney regarding this matter. It is so horrible manager street came up to me sort of harassing me in front of other people started cussing at me. I been almost at all sushi bars on ventura blvd and this is the only place they charge for ponzu sauce and sesame, on my last visit I order 2 sesame seed and 2 ponzu sauce and they charge me $10 extra. The 2 pieces of Albacore sushi $8.99, but It was billed 11.99 because I asked a seared one, just 2 sec of heat on it , change on the price? I have never paid a difference on the price of regular and a seared one!!!! Terrible Terrible Terrible service! This place used to be great, but recently no thanks!! I recently ordered sushi for my family on Saturday December 19th and this was my experience on that night: 1. I placed my order at 5:15pm via Door Dash, and was told it would be done by 6:30pm. I arrived, and stood in line outside in the cold, along with 5 others for almost 45 minutes. While standing in line, a gentleman skipped to the front and the lady (the manager) acknowledged him and gave him his order. Totally disregarded everyone else that was standing in line for 45 minutes waiting to be acknowledged, or helped. There was a huge commotion outside because of it, and everyone started complaining to the Manager. 2. I received my food at 7:15pm. Almost 2 hours from the time I placed my order. Once I got to my car, I had a piece of plastic on my sushi. This was plastic from a plastic bag. Unbelievable. 3. My sushi rolls were wrong. I ordered a Deluxe Crunchy roll and got Eel. I took the order back inside and told the lady, and she said "your order is right. It says right here on your receipt." I said Ma'am, that says "Eel SAUCE", not an Eel roll. She definitely was not listening, and was clearly overwhelmed or something. She gave me extra eel sauces, not the roll that I ordered. LOL TERRIBLE TERRIBLE! I'm giving an update after all these years of being a dedicated patron to Cho Cho. We actually prefer the Thousand Oaks location in terms of service and quality nowadays. However, this location has seen it's time and I'm sad that it has shown the age and decline. Management has gone downhill and so has some of its quality yet we still go back Bc it is the OG place and we love the tradition of their signature rolls. They also still manage to stick around despite the other location down the street closing (kind of glad Bc it sucked and service at the time took advantage to dip more into tipping themselves more on our CC but that's another story!) I want to add that since my kid has joined our restaurant foray, she tends to order the "other" items they may not be known for including their ramen. I have to say it's actually not that bad! It would not be traditional in the sense of ramen we eat but flavor and portion is fairly on point and she liked it so we'll give it that. Overall, I hope Cho Cho San stays around and maintains their status as a standby for us Bc they helped establish our journey into Ventura Blvd. sushi joint discoveries over 15 years ago. If they can keep those rolls with their quality and improve on the service, it can hopefully remain a mainstay, at least in our repertoire. read more

Cho Cho San has been my favorite sushi place since I tried it over 8 years ago and I go pretty frequently ( 1-2 times a months). I usually get the Halloween roll, rice crispy spicy tuna (comes with two), 911 roll which is a little spicy, and the firefly roll and I highly highly recommend all of them! Always add sweet vinegar sauce to all my rolls. The fish is always very fresh and they really give you your moneys worth without over doing it with the rice. Cho Cho San is the man (or woman or an)! I haven't been here in quite some time, but the quality of fresh food and even fresher service blows you away no matter how much time has passed. Planned an outing with a squad of friends for my birthday week and manage to eventually get grouped together on the corner closest to the main entrance while initially having some of us on one half of the bar and the other opposite... this is a fun and busy place... with more than just sushi however the such is the "cats pajama's." We each had a roll or two... this guy focusing on the veggie friendly options such as the avocado and veggie roll (to name two of many). The veggie roll had an amazing lengthy cut (8 to 10 pcs) and was both aesthetically and pallet pleasing. The prices are VERY reasonable. The parking is VERY timely... you might get lucky and find a spot in the lot however if you're meeting up with friends or a date odds are one of you might have to do street parking or at a lot nearby (iHop for instance). The bathrooms and entire restaurant are pretty well kept. Would live to come back soon. Free Ice Cream for birthdays (don't believe any of it is non-dairy/vegan friendly... but it's an option as is the complimentary frozen dessert when checking-in to this long standing gem. read more

Cho Cho San is a hidden gem in the valley. I've been going to them since the 90s when there was a conveyor belt of sushi that you can pick from. I believe owners have changed hands and not sure who owns it now but the food is still amazing. I personally am not fond of raw sushi so I order the scallop dynamite and the galaxy roll. Salmon skin roll also does it for me! Plenty of other cooked sushi options but the ones mentioned are my go to. For the raw sushi lover, the 911 with crispy onion is a great one to try! read more

However upon arriving we where rudely turned away by a woman that doesn't have any quality customer service and shouldn't be dealing with people apparently. She asked what we wanted and then proceeded to tell us to look at the sign because they are closed. Clearly by the picture I have attached BOTH of the signs said OPEN. I've never eaten here and will never return simply for the lack of humanity and kindness this place lacks in. I've been going to Cho Cho San in Tarzana since I was a kid and it has been delicious every single time! The portions are great and they make sure to put a good amount of fish in every roll. We're picked up from here a few times during COVID and their to-go system is great. They also have a good amount of outdoor seating if you are interested in eating there. The manager is so sweet and everyone that works there is extremely attentive. My go-to rolls: 911 roll - spicy and delicious. A must have every time I order from here Chefs albacore - has crispy onions and a ponzu dressing!! Sooo good. A while ago I came to this Cho Cho San and didn't like the way their dishes were slightly different than the one I was a regular at on balboa.... however ever since covid we have been getting delivery from this place and it has been amazing. Our food order is mostly correct unlike the other place and the food quality has been exceptional. Other than the fact that they ran out of crab one of the times and the person at the restaurant tried everything in his power to help us fix our order otherwise this place has been amazing. Our only complaint is the serving size that they serve on crispy rice with spicy crab mix is literally half the serving size and portion of the cho cho San on balboa. The quality of food: 20/10!!!! You should expect to wait a bit considering you're not the only people who have found this hidden treasure. Tonight I happily waited about an hour and the host, Nimi, was more than accommodating to seat us at the bar while we waited for our takeout. She was the sweetest most patient host! I came in on my 1 year anniversary and they were slammed. I mean customers yelling asking why they're waiting so long slammed. But Nimi kept composure and handled the situation professionally. I freakin' love Cho Cho San. It's a very intimate place because the sushi chefs are in front of you. They are all super funny and have great energy. You can really tell they enjoy making sushi and love seeing hungry customers happy. Their sushi rolls are delicious and I can taste the quality meat. But the place has a huge selection of rolls with a high standard to make up for it. The atmosphere in this place is interesting as the chefs are right in front of you making their rolls while you're watching them. It's a pretty cool and intimate experience you have to try once when you're here. Now onto the rolls: I thoroughly enjoyed each one. The sushi are pretty top notch taste and presentation wise. Each one was filling and delicious. The chefs seemed really dedicated into making good sushi. My friends ordered a wide range of rolls while I had the spicy tuna and the cucumber roll, both of which were very edible.
