Cho Cho San has become a favorite of mine when in a pinch and i want want some sushi! The California Lunch Special always hits the spot. The Salad dressing has improved tremendously and learned to appreciate it. for $20 bucks you get: 1. California roll ( 5pc) 2. Miso Soup 3. Salad 4. Tamago Sushi (1 pc) 5. a roll of rice with crab meet and shrimp ( Don't know the name) its a deal here!!

Always the great experience been coming to this establishment for over 25 years. Sadly, it's not as close to where I live now but it's definitely worth the drive. Chill environment and great food.

I was there with a friend for a Friday lunch. This location is a bit smaller than the other. Service 2/5: only 1 server, 1 sushi chef. And the server was on her personal phone the whole time we were there. Food came out slowly Food 3/5: the best dish I ordered was the tuna on crispy rice, perfect crunchy. Galaxy roll isn't good at all, the roll only comes with 6 thin pieces and the fish was over baked. Overall, their sushi roll is smaller compared to before. Fish quality went down Just one thing that confused me was the tip jar at the sushi bar? As I know, most of sushi restaurants will share the tip from the credit card receipt/cash with sushi chefs, this place has a separate tip jar. I got confused. I decided to tip less on the card and more cash into the jar, since the server only gave me water and menu. The sushi chef took order and served

Plastic on my rolls from the plastic bags that they were using. They did not offer to remake my sushi at all.

Terrible Terrible Terrible service! This place used to be great, but recently no thanks!! I recently ordered sushi for my family on Saturday December 19th and this was my experience on that night: 1. I placed my order at 5:15pm via Door Dash, and was told it would be done by 6:30pm. I arrived, and stood in line outside in the cold, along with 5 others for almost 45 minutes. While standing in line, a gentleman skipped to the front and the lady (the manager) acknowledged him and gave him his order. Totally disregarded everyone else that was standing in line for 45 minutes waiting to be acknowledged, or helped. There was a huge commotion outside because of it, and everyone started complaining to the Manager. 2. I received my food at 7:15pm. Almost 2 hours from the time I placed my order. Once I got to my car, I had a piece of plastic on my sushi. This was plastic from a plastic bag. Unbelievable. 3. My sushi rolls were wrong. I ordered a Deluxe Crunchy roll and got Eel. I took the order back inside and told the lady, and she said "your order is right. It says right here on your receipt." I said Ma'am, that says "Eel SAUCE", not an Eel roll. She definitely was not listening, and was clearly overwhelmed or something. She gave me extra eel sauces, not the roll that I ordered. LOL TERRIBLE TERRIBLE! I will be going by and getting the contact for the owner.

Firefly Roll. Inside (spicy tuna), outside (albacore) pink soy paper with spicy sauce. Amazing!

So this is not a revolving sushi anymore just a sit down restaurant now?

Correct. Nothing revolves anymore. They put wooden planks to fill in the gap where the rotating belt was.

I don't do the hibachi show thing but I sometimes get the hibachi dishes on the sushi side of the restaurant. I just started dating a wonderful woman who lives near the restaurant and thought it would be a solid choice. First off, it was 7:30 on a Saturday night and a ghost town. 10 years ago, there was a wait because it was so crowded. We sat in the middle section of the hibachi table and were asked to move down by the hostess who would come to be known as Madame Grouchy Pants by the end of the night. I ordered the rib-eye and my date the Mahi Mahi. We ended up being the only 2 people at the table. I had never seen that before. The chef was OK, but seemed to rush half-heartedly through his routine. He finished quickly, then asked me if the steak tasted OK before leaving. This raised my antenna a bit; it was an odd statement. The first bite of steak wasn't awful or great; it was kind of bland. A couple more bites and I bit into a piece that didn't taste right. I stupidly asked my date to try a piece. She did and said it was OK. Not great, but not rotten. The next couple of bites I took tasted awful, and I called Madame Grouchy Pants over, and she said she'd replace the steak. She took my plate, which had all of the veggies and rice mixed with the steak. Another waitress then brought back the plate unchanged and plopped it down in front of me. So no redo on the veggies or fried rice that I paid extra for. They prepared the new steak on a separate plate, but there was no way I was eating those veggies and rice. The new steak came and was good, as it should have been in the first place. I ate about half of it, then my stomach started to gurgle. The same was true for my date. The bill came to $100 and I barely ate. The two of us were sick all night and we tried to make the best of it. If nothing else the night was memorable, but I will NEVER EVER eat there again. I just threw out the leftovers as they smelled weird. Bennihana from here on out. Something really is fishy here, just not in the right way. AVOID THIS PLACE unless you enjoy spending your night riding the porcelain!!!

But for some reason, it took almost 5 minutes of waiting by the "Please Wait to be Seated" sign for someone to actually come and seat us. When we were finally sat, the hostess stuck us in 2 seats against the wall at a completely empty grill table. When we asked if we could move around to 2 seats along the side of the grill so that we wouldn't be squished against the wall, she told us "no... these are the seats for a party of 2." Yet we were the only 2 people at the entire grill at 8:30pm at night.... Anyway, we sat for another 5-10 minutes before they sat 2 other people at our grill and then the server finally asked all 4 of us (mind you, we had been waiting 5-10 min at the table already) for our drink and food orders. The chef who cooked for us was really great, and the food was delicious - shrimp and filet for my wife, and shrimp and Korean BBQ for me. So no complaints on the food... overall I would say that it was above average for a teppanyaki grill, and the chef was really great... But after our food was done, the staff immediately started rushing us to finish up quickly and kept asking if we were ready for the check. We hadn't even finished our food, it was only 9:15, and the restaurant didn't close until 10... When I asked for some saki, the waitress made a mistake and brought me a glass of wine... when I pointed out that I didn't order a glass of wine, but rather some saki, she was clearly annoyed but eventually brought me the saki that had ordered. Well at 9:30, they started closing the restaurant down around us - shutting off lights, and at 9:45, while we still had food in front of us and full drinks, they shut off the music and turned off pretty much all the lights, aside from the lights around our table. It was very clear that they were closing down, whether we finished or not, and well before the 10pm posted closing time. Since we felt so awkward, we quickly finished our food, and asked for the check. When the waitress brought the check, she pointed out that the saki was more expensive than what was advertised on the menu, and guess what? That extra cost of the saki just happened to be the same price as the mistaken glass of wine that they brought over... Coincidence? Anyway, we paid the check, and left our drinks unfinished. When I tried to explain our frustration with the host at being rushed out before we finished our food or drinks, she really didn't seem to care and simply said, "thanks for your feedback." Huh. So after spending almost $200 between 2 people, we had to rush through our dinner, as they started closing down around us as soon as the chef finished cooking. Unfortunately even though the food was good, the service was so bad that we won't be going back.

They "close" at 10:30 (the place was still hopping at 10) and we arrived at a little past 9:00, figuring at that hour we wouldn't need a reservation. Think again, the place was just one click shy of a madhouse. The bar was lively and the tables were occupied mostly by 20-30 somethings in crocks and belly shirts, jabbing food in the mini fire pits and shoveling it in their mouths with the authority of hungry guard dogs. We had to wait 10 minutes or so, for a table and another 7 or so for our server to appear. It gave us a chance to peruse the menus. Yes, menus, plural. There are three laminated ones and a book with pages. Given how extensive the food menus are, the drink menu was a little unimpressive. The sake list had a few things listed, not including a Nigori. The white wine had two, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio. We like Sauvignon Blancs but ordered the Pinot Grigio. Mezza Corona. That's what casinos comp pour at the slots in Vegas. It was fine, but not optimum. Overwhelmed by the menus and not particularly craving one thing, we decided to order the "Anniversary" dinner for two. It was a set combination of mostly proteins with the house salad and miso soup. The "poke" wasn't the usual gooey stuff seen in most raw places. It was perfect little cubes of ahi and marinated onions over a bed of pickled seaweed. The salad was large and simple, with a sesame dressing. Then... omg the proteins started to appear. Every single one was delicious. We found that putting the pork belly on the grill helped to keep the following proteins from sticking. The rice was beautifully steamed. The miso soup was even the best I've had in a long time, with lots of tofu and seaweed sinking to the bottom. I can see how this would be a great place for a group, and I can't wait to go with more friends; albeit my husband and I really enjoyed the respite. Our server, Cole, was cool and real. He didn't seem to need to pretend to be nice. He was just a sincere, caring young man. Their happy hour times are worth noting. They're happy throughout the day and night with the exception of 6:30 - 8:30 pm. There is a happy hour combination menu you might want to consider, especially if you've never been here and just want to see what's going on. There are AYCE choices which might come in handy if you're really into some favorites. There's also a big thing about Wagyu. Eh. Different strokes I guess. We'll definitely be back. We really enjoyed the experience. We reduced one star for the silly valet parking and the not-so-great wine list.

Given the price and quality, it would be hard for me to come back for lunch when there are so many options along Ventura Boulevard, or even if I'm willing to drive a little farther to Sawtelle, Little Tokyo, or Gardena for Japanese skewers.
