The food was good, but it was also very uncomfortable. They tried to kick us out because we were missing one person from our party, and then changed their mind. We had full meals with no rice. No drink menu brought despite the request. Service worsened after my white husband left. The remaining of us were Black. When we finished the meal they kept throwing open and closing the curtains of our booth and tossing in and removing chopstick boxes. I was finishing an interview with a business associate, so we didn't want to leave just yet. No one was waiting for the table and seats were empty. I said please and thank you in Korean multiple times with no eye contact or acknowledgement. BCD Tofu house tastes better and treats me far better. There's nothing better on a chilly, rainy afternoon than a warm, nourishing bowl of soup. In this case, it was soondubu at Cho Dang Village. Before the main event, we got the seafood & green onion pancake. Crispy on the outside and reasonably chewy interior. Good amount of seafood; in particular, the oyster stood out. It was also a nice portion that was ideal for sharing. I opted for the seafood soondubu. Everything, from the banchan to the specific side dishes served with the soondubu, came out not too long after ordering. I got it at spice level three which I thought offered the right amount of kick without being too overwhelming (I also like to think I have a pretty strong spice tolerance). It had a good variety of seafood; namely, the shrimp and oyster. I'm not the biggest fan of clams but they were definitely still tasty. The tofu was soft and silky. The yellow croaker and rice were great supplements to the dish. The rice perfectly absorbed the broth. The croaker added a nice crunchy break from everything. The banchan was pretty standard in my opinion - still, a great complement to the soondubu. Last but not least - service was attentive and quick. Excellent food and variety! I have been here numerous times and its hands down the best Korean tofu soup. The tofu is made in house and you can taste the quality of the dishes especially the banchan. I ordered the seafood beef tofu soup and grilled pork combo. The pork was so flavorful, a little charred on a bed of onions. I was just happy with that until I had the soup! It wasn't fishy and I appreciate that you can pick your spice level. Definitely go for medium for the most flavorful spice level. Mild spice becomes bland. Also the beef dumplings were fresh. Cho Dang is our favorite Korean restaurant in DFW and that's saying a lot. We've been coming here for years ever since they opened and they have been consistently good every time we've been. They are known for their soondubu or tofu soup and highly recommend getting that. Spice level is adjustable and they can do no spice which is great for kids. Each meal comes with banchan and a fried yellow croaker which has tons of salty flavor if you can navigate through the bones. The LA galbi is really good as well. Meat is tender and has a great grilled flavor. Seafood pancake is also great and it's of the thicker variety and comes on a hot plate. The service is always super efficient. I've been to Cho Dang in LA so I was surprised and excited to find one in Dallas. I ordered the dumpling tofu soup (medium spicy level) and it was delicious (very flavorful)! I just wish it came with a few more dumplings since there were only three, but overall I really enjoyed it. They also serve fried fish for each person and the rice comes in a stone pot, which is always a huge plus. My mom ordered the Korean cold noodles and requested hot sauce, and it made the dish even better. I definitely recommend asking for it. An unique experience with arrowroot naengmyun I seldom enjoy as they tend to be too sweet and sour at times focusing on overpowering stimulants for your palette. Here at Chodang it was less so and subtle that was quite enjoyable. Kinda sweet and sour but with an open mind, doable. The decor looked shabby, but do not be alarmed. The food is really good. We got water and barley tea--not my favorite, but not bad. The hot tea was served in a plastic drinking cup which was a bit odd. The tea itself smelled earthy and of hay, but it had a mild flavor. We ordered the kimchi and green onion pancake and the combo of spicy pork bulgogi and the bibimbap. Pay the dollar to get it in the hot stone. Everything was delicious. I am a huge spicy bulgogi fan and this didn't disappoint. The banchan came with a mini, whole fried fish, along with kimchi, daikon, glass noodles and a few other things. Service is questionable. I decided to try Cho Dang Village after a great recommendation from someone who said it was better than my go-to spot, BCD. I was super excited to give it a try! We ordered the Dolsot Bibimbap and the Seafood Beef Tofu Soup/Soondubu + Beef Bulgogi Combo. The banchan was standard but tasty. The soup that came with the Bibimbap had a very mild flavor. The bibimbap itself was also good, but mediocre. For the Soondubu, so I usually stick to Vegetable Soondubu but wanted to try something different this time. While it was good, I wouldn't choose this combination again. The soup had a milder flavor compared to BCD, and even though I ordered a level 4 out of 5 for spiciness, it wasn't spicy at all--which was a little disappointing since I love spicy food. The bulgogi, however, was my favorite! I loved how it wasn't drenched in marinade, and the flavor was perfectly balanced. It was cooked just right and made the whole meal worthwhile. Their hot tea was also a nice touch. From my first experience, I personally think that Cho Dang Village has a more light and mild taste to their foods which isn't a bad thing to me. I usually like mild foods, but BCD's Soondubu has a lot of flavor, but the good kind of flavor. Overall, I do plan to come back and stick with my usual Vegetable Soondubu to really compare it to BCD. For now, I still prefer BCD because their soup is spicier and has more flavor overall. Service and ambiance were what you'd expect from a typical Korean restaurant--nothing standout, but solid and consistent. I'm glad I gave it a shot and look forward to trying more here. read more

I love Cho Dang Village. Every time someone I knows goes to Dallas I always recommend this place to them. Tucked in the corner part of Hmart area in Carrolton, it's a little easier to get parking too. They have a generous amount of banchan and the food comes out quickly. I ordered the pork kimchi soondubu and it was delicious. They give you rice to eat with it and after you finish the rice, they'll pour tea into it for you. We also got the bibimbap and its pretty big portion. I personally would just splurge and get the hotstone because the crispy rice texture is delicious. I really wanted to try their yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), it did not disappoint! My favorite part is that they add the taro stems and fiddleheads, a MUST in this dish. Realistically kind of a 4.5 because my friends and I keep coming back over and over to Cho Dang for the soondubu...but ONLY the soondubu (storytime below). To start, the dishes here are not exactly cheap, but the portion sizes make it well worth it. The banchan doesn't blow me away, but the soondubu bowls (including the combo sets) are quite large and come with a lot of rice as well as a fried croaker. I tend to order the seafood and beef soondubu in combination with the LA galbi for under $30. One time, when we came with friends, a couple of us branched out from soondubu for the first and last time and ordered the beef bibimbap. Delicious, but we both had pretty significant stomach upset the next day, and no one else in the group. My friend also tried the cold noodle and did not enjoy it. Since then, we have strictly stuck to soondubu :') The restaurant is very authentic. At the end of the dinner, they give you barley tea for the charred rice at the bottom of the rice bowl. The service is usually good but can be variable (long waits on a few occasions). fyi: - regardingthe soondubu combos: the dishes in the combo (especially the galbi) are pricey as their own separate entrees, so if you want both, I strongly recommend getting the combo deal. You don't get a ton more meat with ordering the entree separately (at least not enough to make the price difference worth it) and I'm pretty sure the soondubu size is the same. - They offer a range of spice, and as someone who enjoys spice but doesn't have the best tolerance for it, I order a Level 3. (My boyfriend, who has an even lower tolerance, safely consumes a Level 2; my friend who is a spice fiend from Thailand always gets Level 5). read more
