Open late in the plaza near HMart, you'll have to walk down the corridor a bit as the sign is up front but the actual restaurant is a bit further in. Between 4 people ordered the Chosun Set with 2 types of Galbi and Rib Fingers, an order of Japchae and an order of pork belly which was forgotten but fine as we were full by the end of the set. The beef were all so tender, and thanks to the Maillard effect from charcoal, super fragrant. The marinated portions were a bit on the sweeter side. The banchan here is great as well. Koryo Kalbi Korean BBQ has always been one of my favorite Korean BBQ restaurants in Dallas. A remodel and menu update even landed them in D Magazine's Best issue. But while this is a very prestigious endorsement, my past visit wasn't up to previous visits. My Overall Rating - 3 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - There are several tables with built in grills and private rooms, and we didn't use our grill, but I was a bit uncomfortable in the restaurant. It was really hot in the restaurant, and I'm not sure they turned down the A/C. Aside from that, the restaurant is nice and clean. You can also check the meat display case for the beef and pork cuts on display. 1/2 Star. Service - Our server was very nice. He brought out water and another server brought all the wonderful Korean sides. The service was superb and is a reason they would have landed in D Magazine's Best issue. 1 Star. Food - The menu has been updated, and prices have gone up (everywhere). But my main issue was the Kalbi wasn't very tender. In fact, I had to use my hands to pull the meat from the bone. Granted, I always use this technique when eating Kalbi, but this time it took more effort. I will never return to Koryo Korea House. I visited yesterday (Sunday) around 2:00 PM for a family dinner after my daughter came home from Boston. Remembering how good the food used to be, we were looking forward to a nice meal. We ordered the SPICY GALBI JJIM (braised short ribs), Bossam (steamed pork belly, small size), YOOK HWEH (beef tartare), and Grilled mackerel. Unfortunately, every single dish was a complete disappointment. SPICY GALBI JJIM: The meat was tender, but it had a severe gaminess/foul odor, and the broth tasted sour. To make matters worse, the portion size was ridiculously small. YOOK HWEH: After taking just one bite, my daughter put her chopsticks down, saying the smell and texture were completely unpalatable. I forced myself to eat a few bites because I didn't want to waste it, but the meat stank and had a shockingly mushy, chalky texture. Crucially, I have been dealing with severe food poisoning/stomach distress from last night through this morning, running to the bathroom constantly. Grilled Mackerel: It clearly tasted like it was cooked beforehand and merely reheated before being served. It reeked of a terrible fishy odor, and the flesh was completely dry and crumbly--far below acceptable quality. Bossam: The pork smelled terrible, and the accompanying vegetables were in an appalling, unappetizing state. Beyond the atrocious food quality, the hygiene level was shocking. The tables and floors were sticky, and the bathroom toilet was filthy with leftover waste, making me question if this place is even a properly managed restaurant. The service was also far from friendly or professional. When I ordered a Diet Coke, they served a deformed, bulging can (likely kept in improper storage). I usually don't like to make a fuss at restaurants and assumed canned soda would be safe, but given the overall atmosphere of the place, I couldn't even finish it. I rarely post complaints like this, but this experience was so far beyond acceptable that I felt compelled to share it to warn others. Consider yourself warned. read more

My verdict is the same as everyone else's. Great quality food with lots of side dishes /banchan. Decor was Ok, not too nice and not too fancy, not simple either. Price not cheap. Banchan included salad, cabbage kimchi, cucumber kimchi, fish cakes, blanched broccoli, in short normal banchan types. Although it was charcoal BBQ, not gas-powered BBQ, I still couldn't tell much difference or what is special about the charcoal BBQ. It's supposed to give a particular smokey smell to the BBQ, but again, I couldn't tell We ordered the combo beef, for 2-3 ppl. However, I felt for the price, it should have included more meat. Think it was $139 with 4 types of meat. This is one of the KBBQ place where they cook for us, we don't cook ourselves. I ordered the Chosun BBQ Set which comes with Suwon Galbi, Jumulleok Galbi, and Rib Fingers. It's a short rib trifecta, all beef, all delicious. Every cut was tender, juicy, and deeply flavorful. The charcoal grill takes it to another level. This isn't just for show. Real charcoal gives the meat that smoky sear and depth that gas grills just can't match. What also stood out was the meat quality. This place is more than a restaurant. They're a full-on meat purveyor (they just don't advertise it). When you walk in, you see two big dry-aging refrigerators, and that tells you everything. The beef here is clearly treated with care and respect. The banchan was no afterthought either. Everything tasted bright and fresh. The kimchi had a kick, the sprouts had crunch, and somehow the broccoli was genuinely tasty. That does not happen by accident. Service was smooth and thoughtful. This is a pretty nice Korean BBQ spot in old Korean town. The interior décor is pretty fancy-looking. They only have large tables so this is definitely a good place for dinner parties of 4+. The service was absolutely superb! The food came out quick and our waitress was extra attentive. This is one of those places where the waitstaff take the time and BBQ the meat for you, and our waitress had some pretty amazing BBQ skills with using a tong and scissors. I was so caught up with watching the cooking that I forgot to take pictures of the finished product. For meat - We ordered beef short ribs, ribeye, and pork collar a la carte. We also got a bowl of cold noodles. The pork collar and short ribs were pretty good. The ribeye was especially juicy and tender. The short rib meat attached to the bones were super chewy and full of flavor. For the sides - the kimchi and cucumber were great. The cold noodles came with an egg and some radish and cucumber slices. And ICE, man these cold noodles were freezing! The first bite chilled my teeth. We've visited this restaurant twice now and both times we were lucky enough to be seated with Kim as our server. She is seriously one of the sweetest and most attentive servers we've ever had. Since they cook the food for you, it already makes the experience easier, but Kim went above and beyond. She constantly checked on us, made sure all of our side dishes stayed full, and took the time to explain what certain items were and the best way to eat them. That made such a difference, especially for us. What really stood out was how kind she was to our baby. She talked to her, smiled at her, and made her feel included instead of overlooked. The quality here blows my mind and I'm mad I've been going to mid places in Carrollton instead of here. They have the best banchans and meat selections!! Seriously!!
