Dang, I haven't had true Korean soup like this in a long, long time. My friend woke up wanting to get some soup for a hangover cure, and this place had the best reviews. When we arrived, he realized he actually has been here before when he visited Dallas with his dad. And you know the place will be good if it's parents approved. This place is what I'd call AUTHENTIC Korean, because it's not your typical kimchi jjigae or budae jjigae. I know the photo doesn't look appealing (I'm not an onion person so that's why it's looking bland.) But I kid you not, the taste was spectacular. I was quite surprised I ended up liking it as much as I did. Will definitely stop by again whenever I'm back in Dallas! Or maybe they can come down to Houston *wink wink*

Just what I needed after a long day exploring the city! Korean stews are one of my favorite things to eat. This restaurant had a menu full of different authentic Korean stews to choose from. I got the #7 galbi-tang and it was delicious. This is the type of food that heals you body and soul. Not only was the food delicious, the service was impeccable. The meals are served with complimentary banchan and cold barley tea which was perfect for the hot day! The restaurant itself was clean and well upkept. There was even a little robot that brought our side dishes out. Most importantly was the value. For the 2 stews, banchan, and barley tea the bill was only $28! I can't remember that last time I spent so little at a sit down restaurant for 2 people!! 10/10 would definitely go back again! I really enjoyed #8 Baby back Rib soup with cabbage. I took my family here after picking them up from the airport cause this restaurant is open much earlier than others. The service is friendly and the food was delicious.

I ordered the Soh Muh Ri Gom Tang (Beef Cheek Meat) Soup and it was very delicious. It was very simple and clean. The banchan sides were great too loved the kimchi variety. I would definitely come back here again. The staff was kind and overall had quick service.

Delicious, simple and well executed. Exactly what Seolleongtang is all about. My girlfriend (Vietnamese) also thought it was very good. Decided to give it a try because Mikey Chen tries this place and it did not disappoint. I recommend.

I went here on my second day traveling and I would say eating Korean food is my go to when traveling. The food was super good I got a mixed sullangtang and tendon soup. Both were super worth it. Portions were on a smaller size compared to California but still very filling and worth every bite. My only down side were the side dishes. But everything else was super good. The server was super kind and attentive. And inside was super clean and cozy of typical Korean restaurant.

The food is so delicious definitely comfort food i highly recommend this place if you want something filling with a authentic Korean flavor. For the price it's worth every dollar.

This is a must visit place every time I visit Dallas. The flavors and quality is on point, and it's such a hearty meal without being heavy. Their broth hits the spot, and meats are tender. Clean, cozy, and friendly staff. I've ordered both the large pot version and individual version, but love the individual so don't have to share.

I've been here a couple times, and I would say that this is a reliable place to get Korean soup. The menu is pretty limited so just make sure to check before you come. It's a pretty quiet restaurant. It's located at the back of the building so can be a little difficult to find. The service is polite and good as well.

I'm so so happy I stopped by for lunch! The weather is a little rainy so I thought that this would be a great time for some soup! This was my first time ordering seollong tang! I was greeted and seated immediately, and the food came out super fast! The owner (I think?) explained how to eat it, and I dove right in. The banchan was delicious, and the portions were so generous. There was so much meat in the soup! The cold barley tea was a great sidekick to the heat of the soup. The owner kept checking in on me, giving me suggestions on what to eat next and if it tasted good, which I appreciated so much. Although seollong tang comes unsalted, the broth was creamy and had such a rich deep beef flavor to it. It felt like a giant, warm hug. My only regret is that I don't live closer to be able to try more soups here!

Very clean, light, and healthy tasting soups that came with rice. Banchan was average.

Quick service, large parking lot. Definitely need to add your own salt to the broth, but very good. Plenty of meat, and lots of tendon! Ban Chan was good too! Your standard Korean atmosphere--loud K-pop, but not obnoxiously loud Came out to $45 after tip for 2-Seok-Uh (Mixed) Seolleong Tang (#3)

DALLAS, TX 75229 / KOREAN, BEEF SOUP / FRI 11-24-23 / LUNCH +The spicy radish kimchi was legit. +The 'sauce' was pretty good and was pretty much an additional banchan side dish for us. We asked one of the waiters what it was and he said they just call it 'sauce.' +The beef soups were all pretty good. We ordered two #1's (yangji sullungtang) and one #9 (wongi sullungtang). +The customer service was nice. -MSG overload. We're not sure what dishes had MSG in it, but we were thirsty all day long and super sleepy for an hour or two, as well. Luckily, we went over to Highland Park and walked/burned some of the MSG off. -The prices are pretty steep. $15.99 for a regular bowl of sullungtang and $23.99 for the wongi, which has baby back beef ribs and lean brisket, as well as a little bit of cartilage/tendon. With these prices, they should at least offer soup broth refills. -The restaurant building is kind of run down and the restrooms were icky, but the food was satisfying overall. Just be prepared to drink lots of water for the rest of the day/night.

What are the gluten free options?

I'm not a gluten intolerant person but the beef bone soup with rice or rice noodles (what it's known for) should be okay? Kimchi is generally made with sweet rice flour also as a binder. Hope that helps!

Does the restaurant use MSG in soup?

The restaurant actually provides you the salt to season the soup with, so it does not appear so. Although the fear over MSG (which isn't bad for you) is a little outdated...

Do they have nuts in their food?

The menu generally didn't seem nut-based (neither did the sides), but you can probably ask the people working there when you order.

Do they have high chairs for babies?

Yes.,w High chair is always ready thank you

I do think prices were slightly on the higher end and service was a little slow, but again, given the circumstances, I personally did not mind. There is an impressive selection of banchan that could almost be a full meal in itself. They were all very fresh and high quality. I ordered the galbi and spicy cold noodles. The galbi came on a sizzling plate. It was tender and flavorful. However, it was expensive, at almost the same price of dinner AYCE KBBQ. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the spicy cold noodles, not because it was bad, but more so due to personal preference. The portion size was very generous though. My family ordered the shrimp fried rice and bulgogi quesadilla. The fried rice was very solid; it had good flavor, texture, and they nailed the portion of vegetables, protein, and rice. The bulgogi quesadilla was also delicious and I appreciate the creativity. The combination of bulgogi, japchae, and cheese might sound sacrilegious to some, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

When I walked in, the place was empty. I stood at the "Please wait to be seated" sign for way longer than necessary--especially since there were no other customers. I finally peeked in and saw two employees busy counting receipts and money at the register. (Bad Impression #1). After being seated, I was actually enjoying the music until I felt something sticky on my forearm. It was a stray bean sprout left on the table (Bad Impression #2). To make matters worse, the tables are incredibly low. Even at my height, I had to hunch over the entire time. I eventually gave up on table manners and just held the rice bowl up to my face to eat comfortably. Regarding the food: it was a bit salty. The kimchi fried rice was average, but the kimchi stew really missed the mark. That was the moment I realized this is a fusion spot, not authentic Korean. It wasn't horrible, but it's definitely different from the real thing. BUT, can we talk about the massive portions? (Good Impression #1). Everything is clearly meant to be shared. The service was actually good. They have a buzzer on the table for service, which I loved. It saves you from having to track down a waiter. (Good Impression #2). The ambiance is loud, poppy, and "hip." You better like K-pop if you're coming here. It's not a first-date spot because it's hard to hear each other, but it's a solid place to hang out with friends who like the genre. Will I come back? Not actively. But if someone else suggests it, I won't fight them on it.

The restaurant shines with its premium, high-quality meats--sourced thoughtfully, including standout options from 44 Farms--carefully selected and prepared by Michelin-recognized chefs. Whether you go for the popular Taste of JOA (Signature or Premier boards) or individual cuts, the beef and pork options consistently impress with rich marination, perfect tenderness, and that satisfying sizzle on the grill. Popular favorites that reviewers rave about include the marinated bone-in short rib (galbi), prime short rib, ribeye, hanger steak, pork belly, and specialties like flash-fried short ribs or shrimp. The meats arrive beautifully presented, cook evenly at the table, and deliver deep, savory flavors--often described as juicy, flavorful, and reminiscent of authentic home-style Korean cooking elevated with premium technique. Sides (banchan) are a highlight: fresh, generous, and "unreal" according to many, with standouts like mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, steamed egg soufflé, corn cheese, kimchi fried rice, and soybean paste stew (doenjang jjigae) that round out the meal perfectly. The experience wraps up sweetly with ice cream for a complete, shareable feast ideal for groups or celebrations. The atmosphere enhances everything: lively, stylish, and vibrant with a sleek, modern interior featuring neon accents that feels fun and energetic without being overwhelming--perfect for date nights, family gatherings, or special occasions. Service earns frequent praise for being attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, with staff guiding first-timers through the grilling process. Cocktails and drink towers add to the festive vibe, pairing beautifully with the smoky, savory food. Nuances and considerations: Pricing reflects the premium ingredients and experience (Taste of JOA runs around $42-$54+ per person, with upgrades for A5 Wagyu or larger parties), so value opinions vary--some see it as worth every penny for the quality and fun interactive element, while others note it can feel a bit higher-end for casual dining. A few reviews mention occasional inconsistencies in service pacing during busy times or subtle variations in ambiance depending on the crowd, but the majority describe it as consistently enjoyable and welcoming. Portions work best when shared, and the interactive grilling adds a social, hands-on layer that many love (bring a group to maximize the fun). Note that as of recent updates, the restaurant has been temporarily closed--check their website, social media, or call ahead for current status before planning your visit. Overall, JOA Grill excels at blending tradition with innovation: fire-kissed premium cuts, abundant flavorful sides, creative cocktails, and a lively yet comfortable setting make it a standout choice for anyone craving high-quality Korean BBQ in Dallas. It's frequently called one of the best in the city for good reason--great for meat lovers, groups, and those seeking an elevated yet fun dining adventure.

We were even greeted with a welcome back and given a welcome back coupon, which I loved, so the night started out well. Now for context to my frustration, last time we went here, our server cooked everything, so we only came back because we wanted to go to a Korean bbq specifically where they cooked the meat for you as well. Apparently, that isn't the norm. We ordered drinks and then waited a substantial amount of time before the servers came back to ask for our food order. Literally the table next to us ordered before us and we're basically near the end of their meal before we even ordered. Mind you, we were seated right in the thick of where the servers go in and out of the kitchen and you can see everything going on (or lack of anything). Drinks took forever to come and they started cooking one of the meats and then never came back. They kept walking past our table and not saying anything. We had to tell them that we needed help and asked if someone was going to cook for us. They apologized and would start cooking again only when we complained, but then would proceed to leave and not come back until we asked again. They kept giving us excuses that they were short staffed, which is understandable, but not when we can see them literally doing nothing about it. There was no sense of urgency or trying to work harder since they were understaffed. They would stand at the little computer at the door to the kitchen looking like they were doing something, while the rest of the restaurant was being ignored. We mentioned to them multiple times that we were being ignored and they offered to take care of us with dessert or maybe comp something at the end. At this point, I'm quiet because I'm visibly annoyed by the incompetence and got to the point where I didn't even want to talk to the staff anymore. I kinda have RBF, so I know they were feeling my frustration. We were almost done eating and were waiting for them to start cooking the shrimp, which was the last meat on our combo, and the server came by and asked if we wanted the check. I was like, "we aren't even done eating, we were waiting for someone to cook the shrimp." Now if they initially told us that we would be cooking, this all wouldn't be a problem, but we were under the impression that they would cook our food, which was the root of the entire service problem we were having. Finally, they came by with desserts that were on the house, even though I really wanted them to just comp something instead, but they didn't give us the option. We didn't even want dessert, but were forced to eat it because they felt it was a good solution to the problems with service. They even asked if we wanted a shot on the house, but I didn't want to drink alcohol that night, and when I refused, they teased me about it. It's my business if I want to drink or not, but don't assume everyone thinks alcohol solves everything. That left a sour note in my mind and sealed the deal that we won't come back. For how expensive this restaurant is, they need to have top tier service, and this was not it. I suggest you stay away!

Before the main event, we got the seafood & green onion pancake. Crispy on the outside and reasonably chewy interior. Good amount of seafood; in particular, the oyster stood out. It was also a nice portion that was ideal for sharing. I opted for the seafood soondubu. Everything, from the banchan to the specific side dishes served with the soondubu, came out not too long after ordering. I got it at spice level three which I thought offered the right amount of kick without being too overwhelming (I also like to think I have a pretty strong spice tolerance). It had a good variety of seafood; namely, the shrimp and oyster. I'm not the biggest fan of clams but they were definitely still tasty. The tofu was soft and silky. The yellow croaker and rice were great supplements to the dish. The rice perfectly absorbed the broth. The croaker added a nice crunchy break from everything. The banchan was pretty standard in my opinion - still, a great complement to the soondubu. Last but not least - service was attentive and quick. I will definitely be coming back at some point!

I usually order my soups at the Spicy level, which I would say has a kick and flavor but never leaves me panting for air or water. As someone who likes spice, I wouldn't say it's very spicy, but definitely flavorful. Beef Bulgogi is one of my favorite dishes, and this place's version does not disappoint. The meat is tender and has a good balance of sweet and salty. My friends also ordered Combo Specials with a Tofu soup and the Korean bbq ribs, and Spicy Pork Bulgogi. One of these friends opted for the medium spice level, which I would say is a safe choice for everyone, especially if you're worried about something being too spicy. All soups come with Korean side dishes, a whole grilled yellow croaker fish (delicious but lots of bones), and a hot stone bowl of rice. Nothing missed!
