Stopped here to try the raw marinated blue crabs Ive been seeing all over social media. The restaurant is in a strip area near Hmart in Carrollton, which tends to be busy for parking. They only offer the the soy ones here but worth the visit. They only offer this dish in a medium ($40.99) and a large ($59.99) portion option, which is not great if you are solo, but at least you get leftovers. I got the medium which comes with 4 banchan and 2 bowls of white rice and the bowl of crab. The crab were delicious and marinated with soy, orange, and ginger. The meat was sweet and tender and just melted in your mouth. You do have to get your hands involved to peel and eat the crabs but they do provide gloves you can use if wanted, but prepare for sticky hands regardless as the crabs spine easily poke while you eat. I came here on a Sunday mid afternoon around 3:00p.m. I was able to get a table right away. It was fairly loud in there as there were some big groups of people dining. Our male server was nice. The food was good in general as well. I'd probably skip the seafood pancake next time though because of the imitation crab. The skillet was also not hot either which was a bit mind boggling. Has such amazing food and the best seafood pancake I've ever had, and I've had a lot of seafood pancake. However, reading other reviews, it seems that Maht Gaek is on the pricey side. We came on Sunday around lunch and were seated immediately but the place quickly filled up after we sat. I got my soondubu spicy and was surprised to see that they put jalapeños in it? I've never seen that before but nevertheless, the soondubu was not bad for $13 (especially since it's about $20 in CA). We also tried the squid, which was also super tasty. This is one of my favorite Korean spots in Carrollton. They also serve a couple of banchan items as well which is nice. ASIAN bbq over American bbq any day of the week if you had to ask me. And in this case, I'll take Maht Gaek's grilled ribs over any American smoked ribs every time. Unlike the American smoked ribs where the meat falls apart like pulled pork but is often dry and ends up stuck between your teeth, these kbbq ribs are grilled and retain a much chewier texture. And yet they're still tender enough to fall off the bone. The flavor also comes from what tastes like a careful mix of marinade rather than dumping all the seasoning you can find in the HEB aisle onto an entire rack of meat. The char is amazing. No extra sauce needed. Maht Gaek also had a solid Galbijjim, one of my favorite Korean dishes that Houston is missing (Yuk Dae Jang makes it way too spicy lol). Went on a late afternoon. Despite it being a weird in-between meal time, the restaurant had quite a few tables going. There was kpop blasting, but the store was pretty well lit and not grime-y. We were seated right away and given banchan (basic, nothing to write home about). We had the pork ribs and the squid stir fry. The pork ribs were served hot and sizzling on a hot iron plate, deliciously charred in some places. I thought it was a tad overcooked, but flavor-wise, there was nothing to complain about. Ordered their signature, the original ribs, which were absolutely delicious. It's a large portion. The sauce is like a classic Korean style with a little spice even for the mild option. I had to share with friends and they even requested additional bites despite having their own meals, for which they had seollangtang. They both liked their meal and the soup was rich. The banchan had a nice spread, although the kimchi seemed like it didn't have much time to ferment. I love Maht Gaek! I'd say their seafood pancake is the best I've had in DFW. It's bigger and has more seafood than other places, and is a little different. Other dishes I'd recommend here are their galbi and budaejiggae (army stew). Both of these are super flavorful and has a ton to eat. I always bring back leftovers for more meals when I come here. I've also tried their pork neck soup, which has a huge stack of meat. It gets pretty messy though since they're all meat on bones, and I personally prefer the army stew flavor. There's typically a wait here, but it's worth! Kalbijjim: I haven't seen another restaurant in the DFW offer this dish with the torched cheese. The food here is one of my favorite Korean restaurants. It's very homey and you can taste it in all the dishes. I went with my friends and we got to try the ox knee soup, grilled pork ribs, and tofu soup. Food came out quickly. Loved the broth for both soups but the star was definitely the grilled pork ribs. We decided to family style a couple of things to try as their portions are meant for sharing. We got the spicy squid, galbijim, pork ribs, and kimchi jigae/army stew. Every dish was so delicious!! Their galbijim and pork ribs are so tender and full of flavor. I loved eating their spicy squid with rice; the sauce is a good combination of salty, sweet, and slightly spicy. The side dishes aren't as fresh as before, not as many options as before either. The cold noodles don't come with slushy broth anymore, the ribs tastes like it was pre cooked then reheated and some pieces were even cold, and the quantity of the ribs are a lot less but prices have increased. Wanted to try a different lunch place than the ones we keep visiting when we make a trip into Dallas. Love the Korean food here especially in Carrollton. Don't have that here in Austin so we try to hit our faves when in town. Well Arirang my favorite kimchi dumpling place was closed on Tuesday and it's around the corner so we decided to walk around and see what else there is. Our friend recommended the jambong jajiangmyun place next door actually but we just had song bo sung last night so we decided to see what this place was about. My husband checked out their menu and I looked here online and the reviews were good. We wanted soup and something easy for lunch too so we popped in. The servers were all so nice. Easy simple lunch menu. Prices were decent. Place was kinda busy and it was clean. Seems like they are known for their soups so most of us got their beef soup half got spicy and my husband got his fave soonduboo tofu soup. The sides arrived and they were all tasty and fresh. The soups were all good. I liked mine. Just the right spice. Wished there was more beef balanced with soup but it's ok for lunch. Actually wanted yukjejang which they don't have. The regular gomtang one of my kids got noodles in it the other didn't lol thought that was weird. It was ok like most gomtang you gotta season it yourself well. My husband's tofu soup he says was really good. We enjoyed the meal. It was light. They refilled our panchans kindly and the rice was good too. We were satisfied. This place has gone from good to completely unacceptable in the span of about 6 months. I used to come semi-regularly, but after my last experiences I'm genuinely warning people to stay away. First, the to-go packaging is criminally negligent. They're using the thinnest, cheapest plastic soup containers you can buy in bulk from a dollar store. I ordered budae jjigae and has leftover to go, it completely collapsed on one side while I was trying to put the cap on the cup, hot soup poured straight down my shirt, all over my pants, socks and shoes. Luckily the broth wasn't boiling-hot this time, had it been properly steaming, I would have had serious burns and probably an ER visit. This is not "oops, cheap container"; this is reckless cost-cutting that puts customers at risk of real injury. I have pictures my soup-soaked clothes. Second, the food itself has fallen off a cliff. The budae jjigae used to be one of the better versions in the area -- rich, spicy, deeply savory, decent amount of meat. Now? It's basically spicy dishwater with a few sad slices of spam and hot dog floating in it. No depth, no umami, barely any gochujang flavor. It tastes like they're stretching the broth with mostly water and a single spoonful of paste. Pathetic. Banchan quality is embarrassing. They're clearly using the bare minimum to fill the little dishes and hoping nobody notices. Prices have not gone down to match the dramatic drop in quality -- they're actually charging the same or more than they did when the food was good. Bottom line: They've chosen the absolute cheapest possible containers, slashed ingredient quality, thinned every broth, and are still happy to take full price from customers. This isn't a "bad day" or "off week" -- it's a deliberate decision to cut every possible corner. If you value your clothing, your skin, and your taste buds, do not come here. There are dozens of better Korean spots in the area that won't try to injure you or serve you sad soup-flavored water. Zero recommendation. Actively avoid. 1 star only because zero isn't an option. read more

There were a lot of options and we chose the bibimbap stone bowl, spicy ox bone soup, and the pork neck bone soup. I loved the flavor of the pork neck bone soup! The broth was rich and flavorful. The only downside is that the soup does have bone so you have to take the meat off the bone when you eat it. A good alternative is the ox bone soup but it is not as delicious as the pork neck bone soup. There was ample of side dishes and they were not salty at all! Where do I start? First time trying something different then going to a AYCE Korean bbq. This place has a special spot in my soul and my tummy. Let start with the ribs, oh my goodness, the ribs were delicious, it went so well with everything we order. I thought the ribs were not enough, but it was enough, it was savory, sweet and tender. The meat doesn't fall off the bone, but it is well cook. The squid and pork stir fry was amazing! I really enjoy the cooking and eating the dish. The sauce in pork and squid stir fry was fire. It goes with everything. Also, another thing we did was add the second stir fry squid into the pork and squid dish to cook more. We got the beef short rib (galbi) it was sweet and delicious. We order a beef soup as well. We kill that soup and it was so good, it helps switch out the taste bud of the stir fry. All the side dishes or little dishes that comes with the meal were good and refreshing as well. The services was good, they refill our water jug and bought out the food in a orderly manner.
