We wanted a quick bite to eat during our vacation in Florida. Nothing too heavy or fancy, but a step above fast food. We decided to stop at Chocolada Cafe due to it's inviting outdoor section. I ordered the strawberry and spinach salad which was just that. Strawberry and spinach. I added chicken for an extra $2. It was good, but sort of empty. For almost $10, I thought it was overpriced. Had the salad been more dressed up, I wouldn't be complaining. My boyfriend ordered the steak hoagie and kept raving about it. We also ordered a bottle of wine (we were on vacation-- we're allowed) and a chocolate dessert to go that was incredible! Bill was about $50. This place used to be so great in food and breakfast and now is terrible service. First I had one of the waitress lady asking " Do you want to sit outside and I replied saying no, is too hot to be outside and I said I would like to sit indoors. She was rolling her eyes and saying oh you can sit anywhere. I said alright. Then I see the other tables not cleaned and there was only one clean table yes only one. So I sat indoors and she hands me the menu and then ignores me for a good while then she 30 mins later she had asked "what do you want ?" On the other hand there deserts are amazing I tried the milk chocolate / white chocolate mousse cake and it was out of this world!! My five star review is based on the food and service of that Saturday morning with my daughter. We started our mother daughter date here and it turned out to be a wonderful memory. Early quiet morning, place just opened. Service was quick and happy. Coffee quick and delicious and the food was so good that I continued to think of it throughout the day. My daughter got the eggs beni and I got the bacon egg breakfast sandwich on ciabatta bread. So so good..Hollandaise was homemade and bread crunchy and fresh, bacon crispy and eggs cooked to perfection..Now this was so good that I literally took my husband the following day for a late breakfast and this place went from my five star to three!!! My husband makes the best coffee and breakfast and all breakfast is compared to his and I was gleaming could not wait to take him and it was as if the ugly twin of this place stepped in! My parents pre-ordered a chocolate cake for their anniversary party. The different layers of chocolate and cream as well as ganache on top were so delicious. Not too sweet. Just right! My one bit of feedback is this: The cake was too frozen upon pick-up. It thawed a little during our luncheon, but in my opinion, it was a bit too stiff and cold when served. They also have a wide variety of pastries and cakes of all sorts. Hard to decide between them because they all look so yummy! Staff is very courteous and attentive. I went here last night with some family members and ordered profiterol, which I had previously had at French restaurants, and it tasted completely different (the mistake was mine, missed the fact that this is a Romanian bakery). I went to the counter with my dessert and kindly explained that this didn't taste the same and I didn't like it. A woman (who I am guessing was either the owner or the manager) said she understood that I didn't like the dessert and didn't want to force me to eat something I didn't like. She said she would take it off the bill and that I could order something else. I got the tiramisu and it was amazing. So many things wrong with this place. Where do I begin.... a little back story.... we are currently on a Temp-Handicapped decal due to a knee injury. We have our legal parking decal and parked across the street. Finally able to get out of the car and wobble our way over to the restaurant. When we walked/wobbled in, we had to take a seat due to being on crutches and unable to walk much. IMMEDIATELY got yelled at and told "you can't sit there".... and when we say YELLED we really do mean it. About 3 other people inside who were waiting in line to make an order, all turned around to look at us. Complete embarrassment from their part. We attempted to explained the situation. The staff then asked "what's your handicap?You need to show me your handicapped pass." -- first of all, it is ILLEGAL to ask that question. He then took it a step further and said we needed to "bring me your parking handicapped pass to show me that you're really handicapped" At this point we were in SHOCK. Under Florida law, you have to display your handicapped parking in your vehicle while parked in a handicapped spot. I refused to remove the decal from the car and risk getting a ticket just to show these uneducated simple minded brain, a decal just to prove we are currently handicapped. I then suggested he walk with us back to the car so he can see the decal. Once again, he said to "you have to show me your disability." At this point, I was attempting to explain Rock-Science to a 3-year old brain. At this point, Don't agree with stupid. Besides the idiot mindset, the place smelled like wet-rang. Take away this Covid-Times, they place looked dirty and unkempt. Floors where sticky and black stains all over. No wonder this place has so many other negative reviews. I love Hollywood downtown and their little stores and restaurants. Chocolada is a great find! This Latin bakery has a good and cheap breakfast! Their options vary from the scrambled eggs through eggs Benedict with omelettes in between! They all come with nice home-fries. They also have different sandwiches to choose from. Their drink selections are also vast. I opted for their cafe con leche, it was good and it went well while enjoying their outside sitting. Their service is pretty fast and the servers are nice. Because their simple menu they don't have to elaborate much. They are always busy, which indicates that they are local favorite. From bikers to families you have all groups enjoying their food.
