The food was amazing, service was fast and friendly. I have been looking for a Peruvian restaurant around here. I am so happy I found this gem.

Love the food and service. We will definitely go back. It's going to be our regular spot for lunch.

Omg DIVINE. Peruvian food has so much flavors! Like the essence of some Peruvian food is fusion and geez they perfected it. Cholo's is in Lynnhaven- and a wonderful hidden gem. The staff are nice and chill and the vibes are quaint. Got the sampler which is a smorgasbord of potato. Lomo saltado is savory and filling while the charcoal chicken with yucca is a perfect lunch meal. Definitely will go again to try out other dishes!

    Ceviche!

I loooove this restaurant for the food and drinks!!! Chicha Morado is now my favorite beverage!!!

Perhaps, I was expecting too much. While I am not Peruvian, I have visited the country, and Peruvian cuisine has been my go-to cuisine for at least 10 years. Although I'm not an expert in all things Peruvian, I hope that I have a decent handle on what to expect at a Peruvian restaurant. First, the service was great for what it was because I think our waitress might have been a bit overwhelmed. During over visit, the restaurant was pretty packed, but I think she was the only waitress handling the entire restaurant. That said, she did display great poise while being pulled to and from everywhere. Overall, the food was fine, but I found some of our dishes to be a bit bland . . . compared to what I have had in the past. Generally speaking, the dishes tasted like someone forgot to add seasoning to them. While the cooked food was a bit bland for our liking, the ceviche was pretty darn delicious. Looking back, we probably should have ordered several of ceviche dishes instead of the saltado. The price of the food seemed more or less ok based on my previous experiences with Peruvian food.

    Pascado a la macho

Best food I have had in a long time! Had the "pascado a lo macho" & not kidding when I say; "top ten dishes I've ever eaten". The flavors of the sauce and the way everything on the plate works together...amazing. The seasoning and spice level were perfection and I would cry if this was taken off the menu.

Got a lomo saltado and the meat was practically raw. Honestly very upset because I've been trying to find good Peruvian food.

We came in for an early dinner. When we walked in the tables was dirty and food on the floor. They told us to seat ourselves and as we were walking around the establishment looking for a clean table to sit, we were about to walk out when the cashier/ waitress/ hostess decided to call us back and cleaned a table and swept the floor. We finally sat and ordered. Overall the food was ok nothing to brag about. The arroz con mariscos was not pleasant to eat, some bites had small rocks or sand, the clams weren't cleaned well. The other dishes were ok, beef was very tender and tasty.

I wish I could give Cholo's 100 stars. This may be my husband and I's favorite place in Hampton Roads. Amazing, authentic Peruvian food. At first glance, you may be underwhelmed driving by, but go inside, order a Pisco, and I promise you won't be disappointed. Their Piscos are STRONG and FOAMY - two of my favorite cocktail attributes The service is always excellent - the staff are efficient and kind. I appreciate them because they don't hover, but are very attentive. No matter how crowded the restaurant is, we always get our food within 10-15 minutes. Definitely start with the ceviche or yucca for an appetizer. Their ceviche has one of the best lime sauce/spice mixture of any ceviche I've had. It comes with the authentic, Peruvian corn and sweet potatoes. For main dishes, we love Lomo Saltado, Pescado a lo Macho, and Arroz con Mariscos. But I'm POSITIVE, you cannot order wrong here! The inside is simple and only has maybe ten tables or so. We almost always dine in though because we love our food hot and fresh! You may think the prices are a bit high, but once you taste the food, you'll wonder why they aren't higher Such high quality and large portions! Highly, highly recommend!

Oh my goodness, the food and sauces were excellent

The restaurant was clean, well-lit, and had plenty of available seating. I ordered the quarter chicken with Peruvian fried rice and sweet plantains. Everything was exceptional; the rice and plantains were cooked perfectly, and while I did think the chicken was slightly salty, it was still very tasty. I also enjoyed the green sauce provided, though the food was flavorful enough on its own. My only minor suggestion is for the staff to ask guests whether they prefer white or dark meat when ordering. Aside from that, the meal was excellent. If you are looking for authentic, great-tasting Peruvian chicken, I highly recommend stopping by El Pico de Oro.

However, we decided to stay and order lomo saltado, one with white rice, the other with fried rice. To be fair, the food wasn't bad. The flavors were fine, but to us, it just didn't taste like authentic Peruvian food. If you're looking for a quick, casual meal and aren't expecting a traditional Peruvian dining experience, this place may work for you. The place is setup more as a fast food place than a restaurant. You order and pay then sit down. From the short time we were there it looks like they do mostly takeout service rather than dine in and you'll feel it. Unfortunately, based on our experience, this wouldn't be a place we'd return to when looking for Peruvian food.

I hadn't eaten there in over five years, so I was hoping the food was still as good as I remembered. My visit was on a Friday evening, around 6:00 or 6:30 PM. The dining room was relatively quiet, with only two other customers present, and I was immediately greeted upon walking in. I asked the cashier about the new menu item, the "Lamb Chops." He described them as pan-fried, noting that an order includes two to three nice-sized chops and comes with two sides. I decided to order the lamb chops to go, selecting the arroz chaufa (fried rice) which was a $1 upcharge and plantains as my sides. I was extremely disappointed when I opened my order and found that I had been served lamb shoulder for $18 and not the lamb chops I expected (typically rib or loin chops). To add to my disappointment the quality of the Lamb was very poor; it was tough, contained an excessive amount of connective tissue and fat, and was ultimately inedible. I ended up having to throw the entire portion away. The arroz chaufa also had inconsistent quality. While the flavor was good, the texture varied significantly, with parts being mushy and overcooked, and others remaining hard and undercooked. The Plantains were cut too thick and were also undercooked. Given the cost and the expectation associated with "Lamb Chops," I was extremely unhappy with my meal. I believe the cut of meat served was misrepresented, falsely advertised and the quality was unacceptable. I certainly cannot recommend this item to others and regret not ordering the chicken, which I know your restaurant prepares well.
