I love Peruvian food so when l saw so many great reviews for this restaurant I was excited to try. To start off we read that the wait times could be long so we decided to call in our order. We waited on hold for about 10 minutes. Placed 2 half chicken orders, 1 with plantains and black beans with rice and the other with steamed vegetables and rice and beans. Total cost $39.00. We were told 15 minutes and it was ready when we arrived. we walked in and iv could immediately see what others were talking about. Dirty floor, tables, trash cans. Dead bugs. I Immediately regretted my decision. while waiting for the employee to finish her call. I looked at the food in the warming containers. Everything was dried out and looked old. Nothing was covered. Cashier was using the same gloves hands serve food, answer the phone and type in orders. The food was just okay. I liked the charcoal flavor of the chicken 7/10 but the rice was dry and hard, the beans were over cooked and flavorless, the veggies were mushy and lacked seasoning as well. The lack of cleanliness is a huge deal for me because if the front of the house is nasty, the back couldn't be any better. This place is a no for me. read more

This place is definitely a "come for the food, not the experience" type of spot. First things first, it's in the hood and the vibe matches that. If you're shy or timid, this may not be the easiest place to order. If you try to order at the counter when they're even slightly busy (which is basically always), you'll need to speak up or you might get overlooked for a bit. I recommend using the little ordering kiosk to the left instead. It's much easier. The staff can come off short or a little rude, but I've also seen customers be pretty pushy, so it seems like they're mostly just focused on getting orders out without all the pleasantries and keeping things moving. I ordered the half chicken with rice and beans and mixed vegetables. The food is undeniable. The chicken is juicy with that perfect charcoal flavor, and the yellow sauce is ridiculously good. That said, the place itself could use some attention. The dining area was pretty dirty with crumbs and trash on the floor, and the tables didn't seem to get wiped down between customers (or ever?). It may just be because they're constantly busy, but it's noticeable. Also be prepared to wait. There are a lot of to-go and DoorDash orders, so even if it looks like only one person is ahead of you, there might actually be a dozen orders in the queue. I ended up waiting about 25 minutes before I asked about my order, and it seemed like it may have been forgotten or given to someone else. After that, it took another 10 minutes before I finally got my bag. Long story short: come here when you have time and aren't feeling sensitive. The food is excellent, but nothing else about the experience is particularly impressive. And honestly... I'm still going back . The chicken and that yellow sauce are just that good. Next time I'll probably try to order ahead though. Just know you can't order directly from their website, so you'll either need to call ahead or pay the higher prices on the delivery apps. read more

When I tried the chicken and loved it, I came back to try the fried fish. I did order the fried plain whiting with plantain and fried rice. The serving was huge and worth the money. Though i waited on the phone for 8mins holding and decided to call again, I was able to get in and ordered and learned that she is working by herself and then understood why. We got the 1/2 charcoal chicken dark, with a side of fried rice and plantains, the 5 piece whole wings (moon dust), and the lamb chops with 2 sides, and 2 drinks, for my family of 4. Lamb chops - OMG Moon dust wings - OMG Charcoal Chicken - OMG The only thing that stand out as something that needs to be worked on are the sides. The sides are just mid and also sitting out on the bar behind the counter. Theres so much emphasis in flavor of the meat that I feel that the sides were an after thought. The meat is absolutely delicious though. The charcoal 1/2 chicken had flavors I couldn't even make out, but it was deliciously fresh. The lamb chomps were so tender and easy to bite and chew. The whole wings were fresh and crunchy. Be prepared for a longer wait time. I suggest calling beforehand. This place was packed with people waiting for their food. Lots of customers which is telling that this is a fave spot for good food. Latin music was playing loudly which makes for lively ambiance. There are 2 booths (each seat ma6 people), and 4 tables that seat 2 people, dining in is not for large crowds mainly serving carryout orders. I ordered Lomo Saltado which is steak sautéed with tomatoes and onions, served with rice and fries and an order of half chicken with choice of fried rice and green beans. Service was friendly but it took 20 minutes for the order to be ready. Am ordering to go .... The Lolo Saltado had all flavors (not bland!) but the steak was overcooked/dry. Food is very good and flavorful but there is no way that this single piece is a 1/4 of a whole chicken. Aside from that, cashier seemed really irritated and maybe she was having a bad day, who knows. I wish napkins and cutlery were out for customers who dine in as she seemed irritated I asked for extra napkins. I have been coming since the place open and everything was wonderful and the food taste great. Since the summer, they have fallen off due to heavy and I do mean heavy amounts of salt! I have called a few times to complain and have my food remade bc I couldn't eat the chicken due to being heavily salted/ nor can I enjoy the true flavor of the sauces bc it's just too salty too! I've been eating Peruvian food for over 30 years not in this area, but I've moved back and I would like to say "stop adding so much salt. We ordered takeout from this restaurant. It was a large order. I say this because you can expect a few things to be over looked. However, most of our order was correct. The food was flavorful and delicious. The bowl was huge and loaded with toppings. We also got fajitas, the beef stew, and chicken wings. Been to this place twice since it opened a couple of weeks ago. I got the half chicken both times and both times it's been great. Service is nice and efficient. It was busy both times but the wait was no longer than 5 minutes. Their menu is big and I haven't tried anything else but if you go to a Peruvian Charcoal chicken place you should probably get the charcoal chicken. I also felt it was a great value. It was under $18 with tax and tip for a half chicken and 2 sides. Very reasonable for this day and age. Will be back!! read more
