I'm not even a big Chinese food person, but Max Orient gets me EVERY time I'm at Jefferson Mall First of all--you get SO much food for your money. Like... they do not play about portions. And those egg rolls?? Absolutely to die for. Crispy, flavorful, and always fresh. The food is consistently hot, which I love, and I can never stay away from the lo mein. My go-to is the Peking chicken--it has the perfect balance of crispiness and sweetness every time. I've tried the honey chicken too, and when it's made right it's really good... but it can be hit or miss. Located inside the Jefferson Mall, this establishment offers very large portions for really decent prices. Most meals are between $10-$14 dollars and I always get two meals out of it because they truly pack the to-go container so full. With my food restrictions the only dish I am able to order is the Shrimp with Vegetables (it has a white sauce that does not contain soy sauce, since soy sauce has gluten I am unable to have it) with steamed rice. I have been here with other people as well, they have enjoyed the Orange Chicken, Crab Rangoon, and many other dishes and everyone always ends up with delicious food and plenty of it! read more

This place is in the Louisville Chinese food hall of fame. There's a reason the line here can get so big, it snakes through half the food court at Jefferson mall. You get big portions for a good price. The staff is very friendly as well. Shoutout to Steve, Bertha, Jackie and Paola for holding it down when there's 40 people in front of them asking for Peking chicken. Literally all the food here is good, from the main entrees to the side items. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth stopping in the mall only for max orient. I was out and about shopping at Jefferson mall with my Daughter. We decided to have something to eat and wanted something that we could share. Max orient was the perfect option. They had a daily special that ran $5.79 and included one meat and two sides. The portions were outrageous. We ordered orange chicken, noodles and green beans. Everything was so fresh and hot. The orange chicken was crispy and very saucy on the outside and hot and juicy on the inside. The noodles were a little plain but still satisfying. The green beans were lightly seasoned and still had a nice crunch to them. As I mentioned we shared the meal, we were hitch stuffed and we still had leftovers!!! If you are out shopping at Jefferson mall and are looking for a cheap quick bite I would highly recommend max orient. read more

Roaches as we were checking out by the coke machine use to love this place. It was really disappointing this is our favorite Chinese place to eat it and it just made a sick to her stomach when you see a roach right there as you're checking out your food there is one they're crawling that close to the then it's gotta be other places anyway I hope they get it taken care of and get it cleaned up so maybe we can go back there another day thanks to the gentleman that pointed out the roach that was crawling around as he was waiting to get his money back no reason to make people sick. read more

Love this place. This is pretty much the only reason I go to Jefferson mall anymore with all the good shops closing, I always get the jalapeño chicken with potatoes. I will usually get the two meat one side and get double order of jalapeño chicken and potatoes. They always pack the container with chicken and since the food is fairly cheap, you always get more for your money. I'm so excited to find Max Orient on Yelp! I grew up eating here, and it's one of my favorite Chinese places. I love the woman who always shouts "sample" at people when they walk by. The line is usually always busy and while that's inconvenient, it's a sign that it's a good place to eat! The servers can sometimes be annoying and come off as bored or unfriendly, but honestly, I don't really care unless they're just rude. Their food is always hot, fresh, and delicious, and they have a good amount of options to choose from. The prices are decent for the amount of food you get. I love this place. They've ruined bourbon chicken for me for any other Chinese fast food restaurant ever, and if hot and fresh the Peking chicken is a guilty pleasure. It's almost always hot and fresh because there is always a line and those are easily the most popular items on the menu, likely because of the famous sample lady who is always on it with reeling people in with her bites of free deliciousness.
