    House special lo mein
    Alley C.

I'm very split on how I feel about this place. I've ordered several chicken dishes here, and honestly, they all pretty much taste the same. I do feel like their sauces have enough flavor for my palate, and compared to some other Chinese restaurants in the area, this is one of the better options. That said, I don't particularly love the quality of the chicken in any of the orders I've placed. A few times, I've had gristly pieces, which really ruins the overall dinner experience for me. The lo mein is very disappointing. I did appreciate the bok choy they added, so I picked that out of the noodles and added soy sauce because, again, it was missing a strong flavor level. I think this might be the most disappointing lo mein I've had. That being said, lo mein isn't one of my top five Chinese takeout orders, so take that for what it's worth. I also noticed that the menus on this spot are very outdated or lacking legible photos on Yelp or even Google. I had a sinking suspicion that they might have handwritten menu additions or "specials of the day" signs inside, so I took a picture of each one. What you see on the printed menu is pretty much all they offer. If you're looking for a wide variety of flavors or sauce options, you're not going to find them here. The spiciest thing they have is General Tso's chicken (according to the cook), which is... not spicy. At all. I think my favorite thing about this place is actually the building itself. This is a food review, though, not an architecture review, so suffice it to say I keep coming back for a hit of nostalgia as the place is very outdated. There are no usable customer tables to eat at inside; they're filled with random home and cooking objects, which, in my opinion, is a sign of a good Chinese restaurant. One last thing to note: this spot is cash only. They'll give you a number over the phone that you'll need to remember, so write it down--maybe on the inside of your hand--before slipping on your shoes to pick up your order, which is usually ready in about 15 minutes.

1/2 Shrimp Fried Rice extra Egg

I tried this spot for the first and LAST time Saturday. I heard they had good food. My mother and I had been running errands all day and decided to keep it simple. We stopped in for take out. They have minimal seating inside and I do mean the bare minimum seating. The majority of the booths are occupied by items for the restaurant. Walked in, took like 2 minutes for someone to come to the counter to take my order. I almost feel like it was faster to receive my order than to place it. I ordered 2 half orders of shrimp fried rice with extra egg. The total was like $13 something. It's a cash only spot...FYI The order was ready and you retrieve your food at the window down to the left. I get home, was super excited to get my fried rice fix on......... Uuuummmmm NOOOOO!!! This rice was close to horrid. The rice was dry and bland. Who makes fried rice without seasoning of some sort??? Yes, the portions are large.....but who cares, if the rice isn't good..... My mother threw her rice away, mine was literally just OK and that's a stretch. I will not be returning to try ANYTHING else on the menu. There are way to many options of Asian restaurants on this strip to choose from. I suggest trying one of them

The lamb pieces used to be small but they are huge now! Appreciate the owners taking the feedback. I think they make the tofu in house. They are huge thick soft pieces with enough crispness on the outside. It's a good introduction to how seriously Chinese people take tofu and how in other countries they have a huge variety of tofu, vs the select few we have in the U.S. And I used to be partial to the spicy fried fish at cate zone, but chilispot has upgrade this dish a lot. It's perfectly crispy and hot!!! Even if you don't like fish, it's a great dish and also makes for great leftovers. I know the fried chicken is popular but I find the chicken pieces are too small. Even with two heavy eaters, we still have leftovers for another meal

It was excellent and had just the right amount of heat. I also enjoyed the smoky ham fried rice, although it lacked the distinct smoky aroma I was expecting. Some of the other dishes didn't quite land for me. The fish soup wasn't my favorite, and the beef noodle soup wasn't especially memorable. The cumin lamb, however, was better than expected and ended up being one of the stronger dishes we ordered. That said, the service was friendly, the portions were generous, and there are plenty of interesting options on the menu. I'd definitely come back to try some different dishes next time.

The bún bò Huế is hands-down one of the best we've ever had. The broth is rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced, and we keep telling ourselves we're going to order something different... but we can't stop coming back to the bún bò Huế! The shaking beef is incredibly tender and full of flavor, and the beef curry is another standout that's absolutely worth ordering. Everything tastes fresh, especially the generous plates of herbs and garnishes. The cilantro, basil, bean sprouts, and limes are always fresh, crisp, and plentiful, which really elevates every dish. The service has been outstanding every time we've visited. Everyone is friendly, attentive, and welcoming, and the restaurant is always clean and inviting. The menu has such a huge variety that we've officially decided to make it a date-night challenge to work our way through the entire menu. At this rate, that may take a while because we keep ordering the bún bò Huế over and over! This place is an absolute gem. If you enjoy authentic Vietnamese food, do yourself a favor and give Mai Lee a try. 10/10, highly recommend.

Maybe they're fine on other days, but it took two and a half hours for my meal to be ready, long after the quoted time online. I sat outside in my car for a while when I went to pick it up, and the place was totally packed with people waiting for their food. Perhaps they should have capped orders or something? I'm sure they were exhausted and working nonstop. The pepper chicken was pretty good, except it was missing the egg I paid to add, as well as the rice. After waiting so long, I was really annoyed about the order missing the extras. It was an extra $5 to order online, too. I'm giving them grace because they were way overworked that night, and the food was pretty good. But they definitely need to cap orders or give more accurate time estimates. There were a lot of furious (probably hangry) people there who left without their orders.
