Very attentive and friendly. You order on a paper menu as you write and circle what you want. Fail proof system in my opinion. You also pick your size from small to large. We decide to order the Brisket Hot Pot and picked the large size as there was two of us. Once the pot came out we realized it was way too much food for two people. This wasn't including the extra sides we ordered. Everything came out fresh and in a reasonable time. The brisket itself was so tender it melted in your mouth. It would have been nice to know it came with potato's already cooked into the hot pot because I ordered sliced potato's on the side. The broth had so much flavor! I ordered in medium spice and it was the perfect amount of heat. Hot enough to make my nose running but still able to enjoy the flavor. One thing that really stood out to me was at the end of our meal we asked for a to-go container and our waitress came to our able to box everything up for us. A unique experience with hot pot! You pick your dry hot pot dish (i liked the beef) and first eat it with rice. Once you're done, they'll pour the hot pot base in the pot for you and you add your veggies and meat like a regular hot pot (and cook it)! The dry pot flavor was very delicious. To start that, you just notify the staff that you're ready for hotpot and they'll come over with a giant kettle of soup to pour in your pot. Then you have a new hot pot meal and can order more sides. Pictured is a medium pot, which is probably too much for two adults unless you haven't eaten all day. We barely finished the chicken when we were ready for the broth to make it into a more traditional hot pot. I love dry hotpot along with Szechuan cuisine, and since Bay Area has just a couple places, I knew I wanted to check this place out (so glad I did!) Today I had this craving of wanting some delicious hotpot in Chinatown. I only had one thought of a place, Chongqing Chicken Pot. Personally for me, this is a very long and awaited review for this restaurant. I often stop in with family and we have a usual set order. I walked in today at a time where the restaurant had no one dining in. But usually the atmosphere is typically busy especially on the weekends. Once we took our seats, I marked the choices on the paper. Typically it is this: 2-3 rice bowls, the brisket dry hotpot non spicy but sometimes mild spice, add ons are watercress, enoki mushrooms, and beef/lamb. But included fish tofu for today's visit and went with the large size but we pick medium often. I always skipped the sauce bar the first few times we dined at the start but now I made it a habit to make some to complement the proteins especially the brisket. Also I keep some small notes on my phone what to include if I forget. The dry pot is always appetizing when it first arrives to the table. The vegetables and aroma is always something I look forward to. But first bite is always grabbing a piece of the brisket and once I dip it into the dipping sauce then I am hooked. It is tender first bite. Once we have eaten a bit, we ask the staff for the soup broth to be added and they bring ladles to the table. Overall, I cannot say anything negative about Chongqing Chicken pot. We stop in so much to eat, I always wonder if the staff ever think, "Oh it's them again" or if they ever get tired of seeing us. If there is a loyalty program for the restaurant with a punch stamp card, I definitely think we could redeem a free hotpot by now. So you order a pot (we just got the Chongqing chicken pot) with whatever spice level you want and rice if you want. And the pot will come out as just like a meat bowl. Once you eat through about half to three quarters of the meal, you can go ahead and order for the birth which then gets poured in. And then you can order whatever ingredients for hotpot and make your sauces at the bar etc. None of the waiters explained anything to us despite us clearly being confused each step of the way, which was a little annoying, but other than that, the service was pretty attentive. The food itself was really good. The chicken was decently tender and amazingly flavored. But it was really frustrating picking out all the bones. The key ingredients you must add into the hotpot are the Korean rice cake slices, hot pot beef, and taro! I think the hot pot beef here is soft and of higher quality than other hotpot places. There is a sauce bar for you to make your own sauce to dip all your beef and other hotpot items into, as well. The staff is always nice when I visit. You might have to wave to them when you want the broth, but other than that, they're pretty attentive and take away plates that are done pretty quickly. The concept of this place is that you will order a pot with a protein of your choice and then when you are about halfway done (or are ready for the broth), you can ask the waiter to come pour in the hot pot broth. We came on a Saturday night, which no surprise that had about a 30 minute wait for six people. For a group of six, we ordered one medium pot and one small pot. The chicken itself was flavorful, but keep in mind it did have a lot of bones. I enjoyed that they included a lot of vegetables in the pot, such as onions and celery that were flavorful from the marinade. Once we added the hot pot broth, we ordered ingredients such as noodles, rice cakes, Enoki mushrooms, beef, and much more. You can control the heat of the pot from your table, and there is a sauce bar located near the cash register. Overall, the experience was good, and I hope to be back again one day.
