We've been coming to Chop Shop Bar & Grill for years and have always enjoyed it, so we were looking forward to seeing what had changed under the new ownership. The new owner is very friendly, makes a point of greeting customers, and seems genuinely invested in creating a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, we noticed some changes to the menu and recipes, and the food just wasn't as good as we remembered. The quality seemed to have slipped, which was disappointing since that's what kept us coming back over the years. One thing that also made us uncomfortable was being repeatedly encouraged to pay in cash for a 10% discount while being told the credit card machines weren't working, even though they clearly were. It gave the wrong impression and took away from the overall experience. The restaurant was only about half full, although that's not unusual during the peak of summer. We're hoping they find their footing because this has been one of our longtime favorites. We'd love to see the food quality return to what it used to be. read more

Please BEWARE!!!!!! I had one of the word dining experiences of my life at this restaurant last Friday evening. While eating, I suddenly suffered a painful tongue laceration on my tongue caused buy something sharp in my food. This was not a minor event as ended up in the ER and required to follow up with an oral surgeon. No one goes to dinner expecting to leave needing medical treatment. What is truly unacceptable is the restaurants complete lack of concern afterwards. I made them aware of what happened, and despite the seriousness of the injury, the showed no accountability and no willingness to compensate. They told me they would not compensate for any of the medical bills that I have incurred. This raises serious concerns about their food safety standards, and how they treat customers when things go wrong. In this case their was clearly wrong doing on their part. I would STRONGLY caution others before dining here!!! read more

Heard about Chop Shop Bar & Grill's Happy Hour and decided to check it out and I'm glad I did. We were immediately warmly welcomed to Chop Shop by Dave who escorted us to the bar ( my request) where again we were warmly welcomed by Ashley the barmaid. Ashley also recommended some excellent Happy Hour menu selections. Started off with the glazed brussel sprouts, Edemane and sushi as nd finished up with the dry aged sliders. All were cooked to perfection with the spring rolls and sliders my favorite. Capped off the evening with cappuccino and Irish Coffee ( requested and served with Tullamore Dew ). While enjoying my Irish Coffee Dave came around asking how everything was. Learned he was the restaurant manager and he informed me of the Chop Shop's weekly specials including the Thursday Date Night Fixed Price Menu which I will definitely be taking advantage of. Restaurant offers both table and bar service with a welcoming and friendly staff. Street parking limited but there is additional parking available in the rear parking lot off Landing Avenue along with a rear entrance to the restaurant. We were in the process of selecting a local eatery for a quality steak, which led us to the Chop Shop in Smithtown. The quality of both the food and service was outstanding. The food was remarkable. I savored a Filet Mignon accompanied by mashed potatoes and vegetables, while my wife opted for a special dish featuring angel hair pasta with spinach and garlic. This evening, my husband and I went to Chop Shop. We haven't been there in a while, and we're so happy we went tonight to celebrate Valentine's Day early. AMAZING. I don't normally eat out on a Thursday night but my husband and I we're celebrating our wedding anniversary and saw that this restaurant had a nice date night deal. It included, appetizers, entree, dessert and a bottle of wine. For an appetizer we both had a dish that was like a salad with a big slice of portobello mushroom in a balsamic glaze with tomato. Absolutely delicious. For dinner we also both did the surf and turf. It was a little extra but as we were celebrating we splurged a little. Did not disappoint. The steak was cooked perfectly. The lobster tail was good on its own without the side of butter. And the dish had some nice sized asparagus. The mashed potatoes complemented it all very well. The wine that the waiter suggested, Cabernet Sauvignon paired nicely with our appetizer and entree. For dessert we again both had the rainbow cake. It's always been a favorite dessert for us. We looked forward to the mussels because the menu made it sound so interesting. But mussels with bacon and roast garlic were small and the sauce was too watery and not flavorful. Stuffed shrimp were completely overcooked and dried out, almost inedible! I requested the sauce on the side, but it was put in the dish. The filet mignon was cooked ok, but not sliced like it was supposed to be. Only the creamed spinach, sauteed mushrooms and vegetable risotto were tasty. That's pitiful after spending over $100. My first time eating at Chop Shop! It was beautiful inside. And boy was it crowded (for good reason) Our waiter was lovely, our food was delcious! We went out with another couple and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I loved my burger, so did my friend (both were cooked perfectly to our liking) my husband got a steak sandwich and my friends husband got the short rib grilled cheese. The coleslaw was great, and they served seasoned curley fries!!! We all left happy and full and I will definitely go back. The only thing I didn't love was that it was so loud we could barely hear each other, but it was a saturday night and that just means everyone was enjoying themselves so I am fine with it. Amazing service ... super well staffed in all areas. Timing for drinks, apps and meal was perfect for a Saturday evening. Yes it was a bit loud in there, but we got over it. Had the chicken with vegetables, one sesame tuna and one salmon dinner and all were absolutely outstanding. I expected frozen veggies on the side .... Nope !! Dined here the other day with my husband. It was our first time eating at Chop Shop after hearing nothing but great things. Our waiter quickly approached us and took our order since we knew what we wanted: skirt steak and steak gorgonzola. The bread that was brought to our table was warm - my favorite! Why do restaurants give out cold bread?! Butter was soft - another plus and delicious. I subbed the side that came with my steak for steak fries, but they were definitely NOT steak fries. Total potato wedges. Not that it's a big deal, but I expected steak fries and think that should be updated on their menu. My skirt steak was delicious, regardless, along with the juicy marinade. I appreciate the steak already arriving sliced. My husband enjoyed his steak gorgonzola and the vegetables. The "garlic mashed potato's" advertised on the menu had 0 garlic in it. Despite loving to eat, drink, and be Yelpy, I've never ventured out during a Long Island Restaurant Week for any meals...that is until last night when the wifey suggested we go for a little date and take advantage of some prix fixe at one of the participating establishments: Chop Shop Bar & Grill. Now despite the name (which gave us more of an initial casual/pub vibe), the interior of this Smithtown spot is borderline upscale. There's an elegant vibe taking place here, but the staff was welcoming and service was paced decently to not feel out of place or rushed (despite the potential increase in customers for Restaurant Week). Truth be told, I'm not one to often splurge big time on a meal, and realizing after the fact that Chop Shop was actually a three dollar sign spot on Yelp makes me realize my return trip here might not happen for a while. Even so, it was the price fix menu that brought us in and that's what we'll focus on. For $44 a person, my wife and I were able to each get a starter, an entree, and a dessert. We decided to begin with a drink and despite my love of beer, I went with a glass of wine (Cabernet Sauvignon) while the lady had red sangria. To start, I went for the French onion soup which came in a large ramekin and had a ton of cheese, bread, and onions inside. My wife chose the Caesar salad which had great flavor for something you might worry is a little too basic. For the main course I landed on the hoisin braised short ribs which were absolutely fantastic. The meat was superbly tender and shredded easily while the side of garlic mashed potatoes were great (albeit not super garlicky). My wife went with the Gorgonzola steak which was a sliced filet mignon that came topped with a melted Gorgonzola crust and a side of those same potatoes and veggies too. The steak was a little undercooked towards the middle and the veggies probably needed a bit more steaming as well, but for the most part the plate was tasty. For dessert, the Italian rainbow cake and the raspberry sorbet were the two options we chose as we basically shared them equally. The sorbet was refreshingly tasty while the cake was fantastic and honestly reminded us of the cake from Karver's in Holbrook. Same cake distributor perhaps? Either way, this final course rounded out a great meal. Overall, Chop Shop Bar & Grill is a superbly solid place to dine at with just about all of their grub being delicious. I'll say it was nice to know that there wasn't a credit card percentage fee (the waitress said they take care of that, thankfully), but this price fixed meal would've probably cost us quite a bit more without that menu. Knowing this (as previously stated), I'm not sure when I'll return to Chop Shop as I'm not one to often go crazy spending on a dinner, but I would most definitely return if the opportunity arises...next Restaurant Week perhaps? read more

Decided to try this restaurant for LI Restaurant Week. 3 course meal is $42/person. Shoutout to our waiter, Melvin, who took care of us. We received warm complimentary bread basket with butter. It was so good that we requested another basket and received a whole small loaf which was delicious. We ordered: Appetizer: Onion Soup (it's a huge bowl) Entree: Skirt Steak was amazing and Short Ribs which has 3 huge pieces. Went here on a business lunch, made a reservation through open table. When we arrived it was empty and there was 1 waiter. He promptly got our drinks and took our order. I ordered the steak Gorgonzola flat bread medium rare... oh my word. Perfection! Certainly get it. More people trickled in as we were eating and the waiter was overwhelmed. We had to leave to make a meeting so I had to flag the waiter down (which I hate doing). For the second year in a row we were asked to change our reservation time. This year, as we did last year, we made a reservation weeks before for our holiday party. The restaurant contacted us shortly before the scheduled date to change the time to accommodate another party. We accommodated them last year but we do not feel that it was right for them to ask us to change our plans again this year. They don't care about us and that we are unable to come in earlier due to our work schedule. We found this to be very rude and inconsiderate. The Chop shop, the hidden gem !!!! We recently hosted a bridal shower at the ChopShop. I could not have been any happier! Let's start with the planning.... Melvin ( The manager) made every aspect of it so easy. His ideas were amazing and he was beyond accommodating. He helped me lay out the room perfectly and ordered tablecloths and napkins to fit my color scheme. He was truly was awesome! But, let's talk about the food....the food was exceptional! The catering menu is really great and the prices were a lot lower, believe it or not, than most other places. Everyone kept commenting on how amazing the food was and that was a lot of it!! The staff made sure everything went off perfect! Allie the bartender made sure everyone was happy and that everyone had their drinks!! You will so happy if you have your party here, I promise! We went for dinner with a group of 10. When the appetizers arrived we weren't thrilled but had high hopes for the entrees since they present as a steak house. Most of the table was served there entrees and two of us weren't served. We waited over 30 min for the other two entrees to come out while the rest of the group politely waited for our entrees to arrive before eating. We attempted to speak to a manager and was directed to another server who then admitted he, in fact, wasn't the manager. We were then told the general manager would be away till the following week. We then asked for the manager to call us. As you can imagine that never happened. Met with a friend for some drinks and apps on our lunch break. I cannot comment on dinner service or food from the main menu. So do keep that in mind... We had the spring rolls and a soup. Spring rolls were okay. The french onion soup looked really weird. The cheese was a bright yellow color and kinda looked like a sponge. To be fair, we didn't try it, but it looked less than appealing. The food prices were reasonable, happy hour food menu quite fair at the bar... But... $13 for a Jack Daniel's shot?! Yikes, you're kidding right?! And ran out of Heinekens. That's what we both drink so that's not gonna work for us. We are both business owners and like to blow our money on lunch because hey, it's a write off, but this isn't going to be our boozy lunch break stop. We like to do shots because we're on a time budget, but at $13 a piece, I almost called the cops to report a robbery. Ouch! Decent Food + Apathetic Service We chose Chop Shop for my nephew's 11th birthday dinner and will not be returning. Overall, the food was decent considering its more affordable price point and our waitress was pleasant for the first part of the meal. However, the issues arose when two of our party's plates did not come out (including the birthday boy's) with the rest and despite alerting the waitress immediately it took another thirty minutes for the food to come out. It was clear that our server had just forgotten to put them in and the meat was cooked not even close to order. Due to the delay we were late to the next portion of the evening so we asked if we could quickly get ice cream with a candle to sing happy birthday. This then took another thirty minutes and we had to leave before the dessert came. We discussed the issue with the manager who said he would offer a discount on the meal, but when we received the check it was for the full amount including for food we never got. Even after all that, we alerted the manager to the mistake in the check we had discussed minutes before and we received an updated bill with further mistakes so we decided to just pay and leave. A very frustrating experience with a staff that was unconcerned with providing an acceptable standard of service and more disappointingly uncaring when they were alerted to their mistakes. read more

My husband and I went to Chop Shop for Valentine's Day and came back again last night for his birthday. Everything was delicious and I can't wait to go again! For appetizers, my husband had the chopped salad and I had clams oregenata. My husband really enjoyed the salad and commented how there was the perfect amount of dressing on it. The lemon sauce that was with my clams was so good. For our entrees, my husband had the skirt steak and I had the rigatoni alla vodka. My husband was very happy with his steak and loved the hash that was with it. I feel it's hard to find a good vodka sauce but I'm glad I took my chances--I haven't had one this good in a long time!
