This used to be my favorite local sushi restaurant but lately all of their veggie rolls come with cross contamination with pieces of raw fish and fish eggs on the outside of them. I don't eat fish and it is completely unappetizing and then I end up wasting my entire meal. read more

Love this place. Been around for years. Used to go all the time when I was younger and just recently started going again. Staff is always so friendly and food is delish. Very impressed with Aji 53! We met our friends for dinner, they said its their favorite spot. My wife & I arrived early to have a cocktail at the bar. I've never been here before so I'm excited to see the offerings. Aji is all about the drinks, I ordered the AJi Boulevard, made with Angels Envy Bourbon. The bartender made it perfectly, not too sweet. Our friends arrive and we're seated at a large table. We ordered some appetizers, shumai and dumplings. Both dishes were very tasty, everyone loved them. For our mains, I ordered the Surf and Turf. The website is funny, it described the dish as 4oz filet mignon, loser tail and strimp w. truffle mushroom sauce. I mean, I don't want a loser tail. Can you give me the winner with two lobster tails? haha The food came out quickly, everything was cooked very well and tasted great. Updating my review because I was more impressed by the freshness and quality of sushi this time. I got an 8 piece sushi entree that came with a spicy crunchy salmon roll and a soup or salad. Also got an additional spicy tuna roll. The rice was perfect and the fish was so fresh and delicious. In the past the sushi could be hit or miss here but this meal did not disappoint. Came here for a meeting, and what a great choice! I absolutely love sushi. It's hard to find a great place in NY, but when it comes highly recommended, you have to give it a try. The service here was excellent, and our hostess was very warm, kind, and patient as we talked to look over the menu. There were so many great dishes, I started with the California roll and a large Sapporo. The California roll has real crab which I love. We also ordered the spicy edamame which was good. I had two orders of the Fiesty Crab Roll, which was very delicious. We also ordered the Nigori Sake which complimented the meal. My sister in law kept raving about this place, so my husband and I finally got here to try it out. I must say this place was very good. Not much to look at on the outside but inside is spacious and some unique light fixtures. Our waiter was very good. And when I asked what's one of the popular sweet drinks he said the Dragon Punch. He was right, it was perfect. The food was excellent too. My husband and I shared the crisp duck which was delicious. I had the monster and demon roll and he had the Maki C. Came here for a quick takeout lunch. Like any sushi place, they had a decent lunch special: sashimi and sushi combo plus your choice of miso soup or salad for about $16. Not bad! The fish itself was fresh, rice nicely cooked. Salmon had that fatty taste that I love. Docking a star though because I do feel like I've had better on the island. The fish is good, but not great. And for the price of what was included, I do feel like I've gotten more from other places around the island than here. But. This place is the best! Try the Wagu meatball appetizer and I always go for the American Dream roll along with their house salad. The prices for drinks are unheard of and are delicious. I sometimes get the Chicken fried rice to go which is wonderful. Bento boxes are great too. Try their Mai Tai. The only thing I could say that's not adoring would be, they need to change up the music in the place. You can also have a conversation here even when it is busy. read more

Very nice place service is always good . I've been there around 6 times and the sushi is great . The ambiance is great , it can be low key at one point then very happening the next . I've so been looking forward to trying this place. Ever since we moved I've been on the hunt for a good sushi place and have had no luck until now. Decor was nice, spacious seating and staff were very friendly. I always like when you can see the sushi chef(s) at work. Hubby and I shared the American dream Twister, and Roll 53. The rolls were delicious and fresh. Flavors were on point and great knife skills. Very creative and extensive menu. We also decided to have dessert. The fried banana and ice cream were both good as well. I would Have given 5 stars, but 4 because of the slow service. I think we waited roughly 30 minutes for our food. May have just been an off night, but we'll definitely be coming here regularly from now on. read more

A friend and I met up for dinner, and decided to visit this place. Neither of us had been here before, but it was easy to find, and the parking was good, even on a Friday night. We got sat right away with no wait, and our table was comfortable. The bathrooms were absolutely spotless. Our server was good, she came over right away and brought us our beers quickly, but was kind of hard to find when we wanted some water. We asked someone who brought our appetizer, but they must not have let her know, and we had to wait a while for our server to come back. The appetizers were a mixed bag. The spicy edamame was a huge portion, and they were outstanding. However, the tuna pizza was kind of plain. The seaweed salad was okay, nothing special. Also, if you want extra condiments, such as spicy mayo, they charge a dollar for a tiny portion. My friend always orders extra and most places give her at least some extra for free. When we received our sushi, I was shocked to realize that the special roll was exactly the same size as the spicy tuna roll, despite being more than twice the price. I've never gotten such a tiny special roll in any sushi restaurant, and was frankly quite disappointed. The sushi itself was okay, but once again, nothing special about it, and while I'm normally stuffed after 2 rolls, I was still hungry this time. We finished our dinner with a fried ice cream, which was pretty good. The batter wasn't too heavy, and the ice cream wasn't melted at all. Overall, it wasn't bad, but I won't be coming back when I know I can get better food and a much better value at other places. read more

Trendy and modern? Definitely. Spacious? Absolutely! Good service? So-so. Top notch sushi/sashimi? Eh. Good value? No way! What can I say, I think Aji is an example of a restaurant where the trendiness precedes its food. Inside is dimly lit with high ceilings and modern decor that's bordering on tacky. The service was friendly but quite slow and the dishes slowly trickled out to the point that I was hoping not to get the last couple of rolls because I was ready to leave and pick up a few slices of pizza. Here's what we sampled - sashimi dinner, spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon crunch roll, eel cucumber roll, and dancing dragon roll. Sashimi slices were thinly cut and beautifully presented. Presentation is nice but I much rather have slices of fresh fish double the thickness thrown on a plate. One of my pet peeves is that the spicy fish rolls taste like bland mush and theirs is the perfect example of it. You can't tell how fresh or what type of fish was all mushed up. Anyway, if all you're looking for is a trendy place that serves mediocre sushi at best, then give it a try. read more

Aj 53 is my hands down my favorite sushi on Long Island (and I've been to A LOT of sushi restaurants!!). The fish is always fresh and the rolls are incredibly tasty and creative. My favorite rolls are the Twister, Monster, Magic, Aji King, oyster bay (which is no longer on the menu but maybe you can ask for it?) and the new year roll. They also serve delicious cocktails! I once tried a lychee martini which was on the "specials" menu and it was super good. If you ever see it on the menu... get it! I ordered a few of the usual rolls for takeout tonight and tried a new menu item the spicy edamame. It really wasn't spicy at all... sort of just tasted like normal mayo slathered onto edamame with a sprinkle of chili powder? Wasn't a huge fan as the sauce didn't add much flavor and was messy to eat. Overall, terrific sushi, great cocktails. Put this on your list of sushi places to try!! read more

This spot is awesome! We came here on a weekday for their lunch specials and we were seated immediately. There wasn't anyone really dining in, it seems like a lot of people are taking things out because of COVID but I will say that all of the tables and chairs are probably the most separated than any of the other restaurants in Long Island and I felt extremely comfortable eating inside. The booth tables are also extremely large and spacious. We ordered the salmon teriyaki lunch special that came with shrimp shumai and we substituted the California roll with a tuna roll (extra $2) and three rolls (salmon roll, sweet potato roll, and spicy salmon). Each special comes with miso soup and we had a small salad to share. All of the food was delicious! The salmon teriyaki was really tasty and flavorful. The rolls all tasted extremely fresh. The rolls has a chewier seaweed wrap than I'm used to but to be honest I really didn't notice it that much because the salmon, sweet potato, and tuna was so good inside I didn't mind. Well, next time we want to go in and to not order from door dash. Next time we want to just order directly from them. The sushi was definitely fresh. We ordered one California roll then I took the bold move and ordered Maki Combo B even though I had 0 clue what that would be. On the door dash app, it doesn't have a description just picking a soup or salad. Most sushi places, I knew has a combo of three different rolls. In my case my guess was right. A eel roll, spicy tuna or salmon (could not tell) and a tuna roll. There was enough ginger and wasabi which usually is not the case. The spicy Mayo on the side was a bit spicier than used to but it was good. The salad was okay, small but typical for what I am used to. The dressing a little whiter in color than I am used to. But still tasted like the typical sushi salad ginger dressing that I am used to. Overall, good food. read more
