    Wagyu tartar

Mixed feelings. So many friends have spoken so highly of this place that I felt we HAD to give it a try. They also cautioned about the price so, after selling off an inherited Monet, off we went! Umbra is in a nondescript strip mall with a Thai place next door. Dark, front-facing windows give it a chic look but... oh no... fake flowers. Normally, not a big deal but for a place known for being upscale, it seemed incongruous for the vibe. More on that later. Inside was cool and urban chic. Long bar gives view of their famous oven. Seating was comfortable enough though the artificial flowers and grapes (circa 1984 Patchogue's Fantasy Gardens) detracted. I get that they're trying to do an Italian countryside thing but it seemed forced. The food was a mixed bag. Wagyu tartar with quail egg was pretty awesome; rich, minerally, unctuous. So far so good. Cocktail was tasty and the wine was fine. But then... Wife got a pasta dish that she was happy with. She found it to be very good but not exemplary. I ordered the veal osso buco which was a tremendous disappointment. The bed of risotto was terrific but it seemed like they simply placed several (small) medallions of veal in the middle surrounding a tiny bone and then dropped sauce all over it. I'm a grown man and have faced all sorts of disappointments in my life (being an Islanders fan conditions you to this) but I kinda wanted to cry when that came to the table. I've had osso buco other places and this plate fell well short. (I actually was arguing with a friend who is a tremendous fan of Umbra and, when I showed him the pic, he fell silent. I included pics of two other osso bucos for comparison). Friends had mentioned that the steaks are really good here but I kinda go to steak joints for steaks, ya dig? They make their own pasta so maybe I should have chosen one of those dishes. Affogato for dessert which was less than what I was expecting but is (according to friend in the know) the classic and traditional preparation so no real complaints there. The service was very good, however. Both our waitress and the bartender/sommelier were attentive, friendly and well-informed. All-in-all, a nice place. A VERY nice place. But I think it's a tad overpriced and overhyped for what it is. We usually like to give a spot a second or third try but at the price point, probably not. Give it a shot if you've got money to burn but be aware of the cost and that some things may fall short of your expectations.

    Prosecco anyone? Great service

Everything was absolutely perfect from beginning to end. The food, the service, the ambiance? A1 across the board. I will definitely be back

Osteria Umbra is the ideal option for homemade Italian cuisine, from the main course to the dessert. Under Chef Marco Pellegrini's guidance, you will engage in a gourmet Italian adventure.

We just celebrated my brother's 30th birthday at Osteria Umbra, and it was truly an unforgettable experience from start to finish. It was a surprise party for 15 people (his absolute favorite restaurant), and the entire night exceeded every expectation we had. The level of service we received was nothing short of incredible. Our main server, John, was absolutely out of this world. Not only was he attentive and on top of everything all night long, but he also took the time to share background and knowledge about the restaurant and each dish we were enjoying. That combination of service, passion, and education made the entire experience feel so elevated and special. Anything we needed, he was there immediately--he truly made us feel taken care of the entire evening. His assistant, Charles, was just as amazing--so attentive, kind, and dedicated to making sure we had the best possible time. And the food... absolutely phenomenal. Huge credit to Chef Marco--there are honestly no words. We opted for a family-style setup with multiple appetizers, salads, entrées, and desserts. I was a little skeptical at first, but it ended up being the BEST decision. We got to try so many different dishes--way more than you normally would--and there was not a single thing I didn't love. Every bite was incredible. Between the outstanding service, the amazing food, and the overall experience, I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. If you go, definitely request John--you will not regret it!

I'm sad to say this was my first time at Osteria Umbra. What the heck was I waiting for? As soon as we arrived we were greeted by 3 smiling faces, so adorable. We went to the bar to wait for the rest of our party and had some drinks served by Olivia. Once we were seated Jackie was our most gracious and accommodating server. We had the most delicious and fabulous meal. Orange and fennel salad, grilled calamari, pasta with truffle cream sauce and a 32oz bone in rib eye that was cooked to perfection. Medium rare with a crust, oh my goodness it was so good. It came with delicious mashed potatoes and we ordered the brussel sprouts, so yummy. We ended the meal with tiramisu and chocolate soufflé with vanilla gelato. The perfect ending to a great meal. The service was impeccable and the ambiance was comfortable. You must go here to have a beautiful experience.

Going into Umbria, it's like a portal. From a side road shopping mall into an elegant eatery. We were greeted by a pre hostess who directed us to another hostess. We were in and out in an hour and I knew we were being rushed which I wasn't a fan of but it was done somewhat respectfully. The food was phenomenal. We opted for a special cheese wheel cacio e peppe. I should have known it was expensive when our waiter didn't mention its price, but other specials he did. All pasta dishes were in the high 20s or 30's but this was $45. My wife said it was the best pasta she's ever eaten and it was a pretty cool table side exhibit. But it was steep. My quince paste apple martini was sublime and I loved the glass it came in. Our dinners, I had to get venison as I never see it on menus and my wife got the sea bass. We really enjoyed our meals. Even looking at the menu, I think I could have gotten and enjoyed almost every meal which I normally can't say in an Italian restaurant. Maybe because Umbra doubles as a steakhouse, lol. Beware though, it is pricey and it's funny that the waiter asked if we are celebrating anything as I assume most do when coming here. They do a fun firecracker dessert for bdays. All in all, it was a really nice experience and would no doubt come here before going to nearby steakhouses, just gotta start saving again

Ordered Rib Steak. It was prepared perfectly, best steak that I had in last 55 years. Wine selection is wonderful. Service is GREAT. It was our 58th Wedding Anniversary Dinner. I highly recomed this restaurant. $$$.

I came here on a weeknight with my co workers and had a fabulous meal. The restaurant is upscale and a perfect place to have a conversation as it was not loud inside. We were well taken care of by our waiter (he was excellent at upselling) and the staff and had excellent food. We started with the pasta appetizer that starts with lighting a huge Parmesan cheese wheel on fire. It is served table side so you get a show as well. While the cheese melts, the chef pours a pasta with truffle cream sauce into the cheese wheel and mixes everything together and serves it on your plate. The pasta was so creamy and cheesy and very rich. I ordered the Chilean sea bass for my main meal and it was one of the tastiest meals I've had in awhile. The fish was seared on the outside and very tender. It sat on top of a canneloni bean mixture, beet puree and broccolini. The Brussels sprouts were also very tasty. My co workers all enjoyed their meals as well (lamb chops, branzino, beef tartare, ribeye steak). The restaurant is located in a strip mall and there was plenty of parking in the lot. The restaurant is immaculate and bathrooms were very clean. I would definitely come back for the food!

What an amazing experience!!! This is a perfect place to celebrate a birthday or any kind of special event!!! we came here on a Friday night and it was very busy, the place was packed at every table, and the bar as well. It took around 10 minutes to get our table ready (we made a reservation and would recommend one) and we were on our way. For appetizers, we ordered the grilled calamari (highly recommend) the blueberry scallops, radicchio salad which was presented very nicely, and the black truffle pasta, which was SO good but it's one of those dishes that is very rich, and a little goes a long way! For entrees, we ordered the wagu ($99) and the porterhouse for 2. ($118) My husband and I shared the wagu and everything was so delicious, I unfortunately did not even take photos of the entrees because my group did not give me a chance to do so, lol. The desert, we had the blueberry cheesecake and the coffee panna cotta. Everything is made in house and you can tell it was extremely fresh. Service wise, our server was exceptional. I can't remember her name but she had brown hair and glasses! Ambiance wise, the inside and outside is so nicely decorated with flowers, and I loved the lighting fixtures on the ceiling. Overall this was a wonderful experience, my group was raving about everything and how wonderful it was even after we had all left!

Upon sitting down you are greeted with large chunks of parmesan cheese freshly taken out of a large cheese wheel, first press olive oil and the most unbelievable bread basket. Which in my opinion is a great way to start a Meal. The waiters love to share the story of Osteria Umbra and I was really impressed to hear it! I love the fact that they have an in house pastry chef who makes all of the desserts. I have ordered the cacio e pepe both times I have eaten here because it is incredible. I love that they give you the option for cheese wheel pasta where they will light the wheel of cheese on fire in front of you and sautee your pasta in the melted cheese table side. It turns your meal into an experience. For dessert I highly recommend the pistachio gelato! It is beyond delicious. They also have great drinks.

    An exceptional dirty martini.

The service on the other hand was impeccable. All the servers were very welcoming and attentive throughout the event. Maybe this event was too much for the restaurant kitchen staff but I'll reconsider revisiting in the near future but not in a large group.

The restaurant is unpretentious and very small, with room for only about 20-24 people total, so do make reservations in advance. We went for our anniversary and had a delicious meal served by efficient and engaging waitresses. We ordered too much because it all sounded so good in the Yelp reviews, but we'll get to enjoy the leftovers tomorrow. Started out with the tapenade and a generous amount of Italian bread (extra bread was brought when we ran out), then tried the very tasty seasonal burrata with peaches appetizer for me and baked clams for my husband. (That was the only part of the meal that disappointed him a bit--I think he'll be more adventurous the next time we go. The clams were fine but not especially notable.) For the primi course, we shared the smaller-sized order of orechiette with sausage and pesto--delicious and plenty for us. We actually could have happily stopped at that point and ordered dessert, but we had already committed to a main course and were glad we did. My halibut was delicious (with crunchy, perfectly cooked green beans along with potatoes and mushrooms), and he really liked his chicken Milanese. The grand finale was the delicious black and white creme brulee--perfectly torched on top to caramelize the sugar, delicious vanilla and chocolate underneath. The service was outstanding. Everything came at exactly the right time so that a four-course dinner took only an hour and a half. We will definitely be back!

Unfortunately, things have definitely changed. The vibe that once made this place special just isn't there anymore. On a Friday night, the atmosphere feels flat, and even the lighting could use some work (Too Bright) it would benefit from being dimmed to create a more inviting and energetic setting. The staff doesn't seem as engaged as they once were, and sadly, the food isn't hitting the same either. The biggest disappointment, however, has been the music. The DJs don't seem to know how to read the crowd. When most of the room is sitting down and barely even bobbing their heads, it's probably time to switch things up and get some energy flowing. The one bright spot is Mike behind the bar. He's still on point, keeps the drinks coming, and provides the level of service that keeps customers happy. I truly enjoyed this place in the past, which makes it even more disappointing to see it heading in this direction. I'm hoping management takes notice and brings back the atmosphere that made people want to keep coming back.

Now, I knew nothing about Mezza Luna, never heard of it or looked for reviews first, so I had no idea what the night would bring! My second thought....it's going to be an expensive night, but I was looking forward so I was prepared, it was pay day! LOL! The owner greeted us as we walked in, Mezza Luna is a classy, romantic restaurant with a warm, comfortable feel to it! I already had the feeling anything we ordered would be extremely well prepared and delicious, I was right! Friday evenings there is live music! A guy playing an acoustic guitar was set up in a nice spot when we walked in, very talented and played some great classic rock songs! Our table was perfect, could easily seat four people! Right away, glasses of ice water were served with a basket of fresh semolina bread! Our waiter, Fred, came over shortly after. I have to say the service is superb! He was very courteous and attentive throughout the evening! I can't even count how many times someone came to our table to fill our glass with water! The menu is very nice, you will without a doubt find any of your favorite dishes to choose from. Decisions, decisions, decisions...It was tough but I went with the Filet of Sole Francaise. My daughter chose a pasta dish. Fred read off the specials, all great choices, but I still ordered my favorite dish! However, beef barley soup was part of the specials so I ordered that. It was over the top delicious and a nice size serving! They don't skimp on anything, lots of beef with tiny pasta and vegetables. Even though finely chopped so no big pieces, there was a big taste of everything in each spoonful. I finished it all! The presentation was also beautiful and served piping hot! As everything on the menu is ala carte, your dish comes as is, so we didn't order any pasta or appetizers. It was a little pricey but believe me, it won't matter to you! The portions are big enough and a complimentary bowl of fresh mixed vegetables are served with your dinner. The francaise sauce was perfection and my fish was succulent, very fresh! My daughter enjoyed her pasta dish tremendously! There is always room for dessert, even though I felt like I couldn't eat another bite, I couldn't pass up dessert. My favorite was one of the choices (of course it was) but so were 3 or 4 others. They offer two kinds of tartufo which was a first for me! I went with the tiramisu! It was one of the best I ever had! It was so over the top delicious I finished it all!! Last nights dinner was one of the best I have had in a long time, even better than the Country House, where we went for Easter! This was just different, a very elegant experience. I highly recommend Mezza Luna. Especially if you have a SO, you must dine here!
