For my birthday dinner, my husband and I chose Chophouse on Broad, and it couldn't have been more perfect. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated right away. Once the team learned it was my birthday, Everyone stopped by to wish me happy birthday, making me feel truly celebrated. Our server, Miss North, was exceptional- she offered great recommendations and even brought me a birthday card signed by the entire staff. We started with the Caesar and wedge salads, then enjoyed the New York strip and cowboy steak with sweet potato souffle and lobster mac and cheese to share. Every bite was phenomenal. Owner Hellier visited our table- He apologized for not coming sooner because he'd been at the park serving meals to those in need. He shared that they do this every Sunday, feeding around a hundred people. The kindness from Hellier and the entire team was something you don't come across every day. To top off an already unforgettable night, they brought me a complimentary crème brûlée with a candle and happy birthday beautifully written on the plate. Easily the best crème brûlée I've ever had. Outstanding food, incredible service from Miss North, heartfelt hospitality from Hellier and the team, and a restaurant that truly cares. We can't wait to go back! read more

We were at the lake and wanted a nice dinner while there. We basically googled "steakhouses near me" and stumbled upon this gem. We made reservations for 7:00 pm and got completely thrown off because of the change in time zones! We were staying 20 min away in CST and the restaurant was in EST. We called and they were extremely accommodating and moved our reservation. Once we got there, we were immediately seated and had the best meal. Our waitress was great! The owner even came by to chat with us and was extremely welcoming. He came by again towards the end of our meal to basically let us know, "the restaurant closes at 10 but that's just for new diners. Please order more drinks and stay as long as you'd like." So sweet!! If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely come back! read more

I had made reservations here a few weeks in advance of a planned stay in Rome. We were able to walk 2 blocks to the restaurant from our hotel, which was convenient. It is located on Broad Street in the heart of Rome's business district. We ate here on a Saturday evening. It appeared to be 80+ % full during our meal, but I'm glad we had reservations. We were seated promptly. Our server, Thomas, was very good. He checked back frequently and was able to provide advice about the menu, etc. The owner even circulated among the tables and introduced himself and talked a bit about the restaurant. It was nice without being at all intrusive. We split a salad, which was fresh and flavorful. They specifically wanted to defer the entree order until the salad came out, to better pace the meal. This was unusual to me, but worked well. They had a full bar and a good wine selection. My wife opted for the salmon and I got a steak. She found hers just average but I liked my dish. The side was a sweet potato souffle, which we liked. We saved room for dessert and opted for a chocolate torte. One of the staff who baked it came out to describe the dessert menu to us. Her creation was very good! This was solidly in the 'fine dining' range in both the quality, experience, and price. However, I felt like it was a good value. I'd consider returning here if I were back in Rome and had a special occasion to celebrate. read more

Eleven months ago, Charles Hellier described in explicit detail the "high-end fine dining" experience his wife, Leigh, and he were planning at 239 Broad St. He described an aggressive menu with classic steak cuts, lobster tails, stuffed salmon, Sicilian chicken and other specialties. The table clothes? White. The wait staff: Classically dressed and trained. The Helliers missed the original opening deadline by a few months but what they've presenting is well worth the wait. We tried The Chophouse on Broad Street for a rare Sunday showcase -- Mother's Day. We wished we'd gone sooner. What we found: Biggest surprise: Mothers were treated to complimentary champagne which we assumed meant one pour. The wait staff monitored both bubbly and water, and quickly offered to refill both. Time and time again. No extra charge. Lovin' the oven: Just as plentiful were the fresh-baked rolls. Served four at a time, refills were offered as the staff spotted just one survivor from each round. Other fine dining spots here have even offered bread. The service: A step above even the best of Rome (Aventine). Although new, each of the five people who stopped by our table seemed to have only us in mind despite a full, midday crowd. The young lady pouring the champagne was nervous -- it was her first pour -- but aced it with a second attempt as the bubbles settled. The ambiance: Classic Broad Street brick walls, gleaming floor, carefully arranged tables with enough privacy, plenty of branding on glasses and such. Even the salt was maldon in appropriate dispensers. No wrappers in sight. Menu: On this day, a bit compact vs. what we've seen online but more than enough. The prime rib (two of our three orders) could have broken the plates; each was cooked to order (both medium). Easily the best we've had in years. The Sicilian chicken breasts (two) were just as tender and large enough to save one for dinner this week. The sides: Brussels with maple and bacon; mashed potatoes -- outstanding and served family style. Both easily fed three adults with some take-home, too. The damage: Just under $150 with tax before tip. That seemed to be the going rate of the Mother's Day buffets around town but this was table service vs. "pass the fried chicken, please." (And downtown was packed for each). Exceeding expectations: We knew the Helliers had high hopes and they risked even more by opening in a downtown spot that have served us the world's best lasagna (T' Martooni's, gone since late 2006) and every fabulous dish from Chef Joan Brady at Crawdaddy's. The Helliers surpassed those goals, even on one of the busiest restaurant days of the year. Also: Leigh and Charles went table-to-table on Sunday to welcome guests. Overall, a very rare well done from this newsletter. The Chophouse is a destination restaurant for downtown Rome and one we hope to visit on more than just "special occasions." read more

We were celebrating my birthday and chose Chophouse for the celebration. It came highly recommended. It has a lovely dining room and we started the evening with drinks and then appetizers. I had a wonderful shrimp cocktail but my husband unfortunately got overdone pork belly. The bread was fresh and delicious. The salads were large and excellent . We all decided to order filets because after all it's their specialty. When they came we were all very disappointed. My daughter's medium filet was well done. My husband's medium rare was also mostly well done and my medium filet was very well done. The waiter agreed after having me cut it in half. 25 minutes later my steak came back out , this time perfectly, but the wonderful potatoes were now cold and everyone else was finished eating. I hate eating while everyone is waiting. I did receive a free birthday dessert . I love crème brûlée but unfortunately this was not a good one because it was soupy. Our waiter was very good and very apologetic. Hopefully this was just a really bad night for the chef. So disappointing. read more

Clearly the best steakhouse in Rome! We visit Rome a couple of times a year and I must say this was the best meal we've ever eaten. Great atmosphere with very friendly staff and the food is amazing. It was all outstanding salad, bread, sides, but our favorite was the unbelievable steaks and cream potatoes. We'll be back! read more

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING!!! My wife and I went during USTA southerns tourney a week ago. The food was as good or BETTER than the "high end steakhouses (Jeff Rubys, Ruth Chris, Morton's). Just as a point of reference- we met and ate small bites prior to our reservation 8:45pm. After sampling some appetizers- neither of us was really hungry. However, we still decided to go and planned on having some leftovers at the least. Upon sitting down we met the owner, very humble, nice gentleman "thanking us for coming in". Super laid back ambiance downtown Rome,GA. We started eating and BAM!!! We couldn't stop 'cause it was sooo good. My wife had the twin lobsters with homemade Cajun sauce - it was terrific. I had the Cowboy ribeye cooked perfectly (medium) with right amount of seasonings. One bite, this is good... 2nd bite, I really like this steak.. 3rd bite - wow this is excellent... after the 5th bite... I'm not hungry anymore, but I can't stop Eating. I didn't mentioned the sides: Brussels sprouts and cream corn... again hit the mark. I'm motivate to win State tourney just to get back to Rome, Ga and have Chophouse again. The food is marvelous but what keeps us coming back is the service. The staff is professional, well trained and yet they are always friendly and focused on customer service. I have a disability that results in my riding a scooter as a mobility aid. I usually park it outside a restaurant and then use a cane while I am inside. One evening while dining at The Chophouse, a hard rain came. My wife and I were unaware of the rain. However, the two young women working at the reception desk went outside and covered my scooter. We only found out about the rain and their act of kindness when we walked outside and found the scooter covered. If that's not looking out for your customers then I don't know what is! read more

The food, service and ambiance was great. We both had steaks and shared a side. It's pricy, but worth it.

We had anniversary dinner tonight. I've been blessed to travel the world and eat in some of the finest restaurants, have to say this was one of the best meals I've ever had. We. Both had the large ribeye eye, seared pork Belly, lobster Mac and cheese, whipped mashed potatoes. Wife had a house salad with the white vinaigrette. First staff amazing to watch you have an assigned member of the wait staff but they all stop what they are doing to deliver food to the table as a team. Service quick professional and friendly. The entire meal just melts in your mouth. Yes it may be a little more expensive than some chain restaurants but guarantee it's worth every penny. We will become regulars. Ambiance is nice best to say semi casual to well dressed. With soft lights very clean. Never wanted for anything. Never had to ask and the owner was extremely friendly. read more
