Date Night Aventine Rome !! Date night was one for the books! After nearly 14 years together, we've enjoyed countless date nights and dined at many wonderful restaurants--but this was truly one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. The food was absolutely exquisite, and the service was exceptional from start to finish. Our server, Maddie, went above and beyond to make our evening memorable. Her attentiveness, kindness, and professionalism elevated an already incredible experience. Maddie deserves gene highest level of promotion. We pray she goes far in life, she's awesome! I am sad to report that no one I observed on my visit was "happy" to be there, ie employees. I will return and give it another shot. I only had a glass of wine then scooted. The interior space is minimalist beautiful but there's an empty unwelcoming feeling radiating in the air. read more

Food was over priced for average taste. The pasta was overwhelming in the dishes and not balanced sufficiently with the sauces. The scallops were awful (I'm a seafood snob and work at a seafood market, so come at me for this comment), they were chewy and tasted like they had been frozen although the waitress said they were fresh, never frozen (I'm assuming dry packed). Considering the cost to add the scallops I would have expected U10's and got U20's at best. The shrimp was delicious but not enough to overcome the $170+ bill for two people, one app, and one glass of wine. Would absolutely not eat here again even if it was a date or special occasion. Our family celebrated a birthday at Aventine last night (02/20). The atmosphere and hospitality are known as first class and proved no different for us. We had many dishes (family of 4). Instead of mentioning all of them (some of which were great (lamb dumplings, frites), our attention and disappointment focused on the Tucker Farms Salad. This salad reads well and is very popular based on the surrounding tables. Two of us ordered this with salmon as our entree. It was not as described : - Beets - When people order this salad, they are most likely expecting pickled beets. These look nice, but are slices of raw beet that are more like other raw root vegetables. No flavor and no contrast to the lettuce. Definitely no beet flavor. Pickle them for an hour in vinegar and sugar and it works. - Almonds - Found a few sliced almonds, pretty sure straight from the grocery store.bag. - Blue Cheese - Other than beets, this is most likely the reason this salad sounds good. Our salads were both missing (We told the waiter, he fixed it), but - again - got blue cheese crumbles from the grocery store. A small wedge of actual blue cheese or Stilton would make this salad worth it. I don't review, but there were too many misses this time to overlook. Hoping a restaurant at this level doesn't take their good reputation for granted. read more

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The entire staff are friendly and very accommodating. The food is hit or miss, and bit too pricey for the cuisine. We have dined there 4 or 5 times. The first couple of visits, the food was pretty good, but I also didn't get anything complicated. The deserts are very good. On one visit with a group of friends, two of us ordered the duck. It was like chewing on a was of rubber bands. There was no way to chew it enough to break it down. I suffered through mine, but the other person with the same order had them take it back was was given a pizza to replace it at no cost. On our last visit there were 6 of us in the group and we ordered a variety of pizzas. My choice was the brisket pizza. It was loaded with meat, but the brisket had a strong artificially smoked flavor. After two slices I was so put off that I could not eat another bite. We did box the remains up and bring them home. My wife that will eat just about anything tried it and quickly rejected it, so the rest of the pizza went in the trash. The quality of the brisket and artificial flavor was surprising since they also own Blossom Hill BBQ adjacent to Aventine and the brisket I have had there is pretty good. Aventine seems to be very successful with some of their dishes and totally lacking in others. At the prices they charge, I don't want to play Russian Roulette to find out what is worth eating. My advice is, if you dine here and find something you really like, stick with it and don't stray too far from that choice. read more

Talk about a guilt trip times two. -First, the wonderful host warmly greeted us and walked us to a very cozy table with a great view of the restaurant, River District and even the Clocktower. We quickly diverted to say hello to two couples in the bar area and another couple dining nearby. During all our yammering, the host stood patiently at the table. We sheepishly apologized for our delay; she couldn't have been more pleasant and professional. Guilt no. 1. -Guilt no. 2: We weren't planning a major dining experience. We really wanted the pumpkin beer cheese/pretzels (so well done) and sweet potato soufflé dessert. But ... -After some great Riesling (Dr. L), we ordered the targeted appetizer and went for an entree as well, the Il Vostro Modo. Or "Semolina spaghetti with choice of pomodoro, cacio e pepe, or pumpkin pesto." We got the latter but skipped the spicy accompaniment thanks to our waitress who walked us through it. Excellent entree with enough each to take home. We recommend the mushroom add-on. -The soufflé dessert was well worth the seasonal wait (desserts, like the entrees, rotate each season). -The kicker: perhaps a top three in meals in Rome going back 22 years. That includes exceptional service. We will repeat it soon. read more

My family loves dining at Aventine. The atmosphere is perfect and Alex is such a great server and always makes the time more fun! The only down side is they switched up the desert menu and got rid of the best two dessert the crème brûlée, and the sweet potato soufflé. We are not a fan of the current dessert list. read more

This is one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at: including the food, atmosphere & service. I made a reservation for 2 the night before, they have a bunch of available times & plenty of seating to accommodate guests. We wanted to try a lot so the waitress suggested some stuff & it was all delicious. We had the brioche rolls & chicken skins to start off, both were amazing & super flavorful. We had the flank steak for our main course & ordered a size of Parmesan truffle fries, both were delicious & fresh & high quality. We also tried a few drinks, a margarita, old fashioned & an espresso-white chocolate martini for dessert. For the amount of stuff we got & the quality, the prices were very reasonable. The staff was super friendly & attentive & our waitress took great care of us. The restaurant itself was really nice & clean & had a great vibe. There were lots of couples dining & seating available for groups, this is a great place for a date night or a nicer get together. Aventine is a restaurant that deserves 5 stars. We went for lunch before returning to ATL. We don't like to waste ourselves on average pizza. We thoroughly enjoyed the Mushroom Deluxe Pizza. Perfect crust cooked to perfection with a flavorful combination of the oil garlic base with the rich mushrooms. The Tucker Farms salad was fresh and balanced with great toppings/dressing. What a gem! One of the best meals I have had in quite some time. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Cocktails were equally delightful. Some friends we were visiting invited and said it was their favorite restaurant in town. I can see why. The ambiance was very nice. Hip, clean, and bright. First off, just to get it out of the way, I'm from Maryland and was only visiting for a few days. I've loved so much about Rome, but eating here was an undeniable highlight and I wanted to go back as soon as I left the building. Aventine is such a beautiful restaurant and the food was fantastic. I started off with just some bread rolls and right off the bat between those and the sorghum butter I was hooked. It probably helped that my waiter explained how much of the food was made in-house, that's usually a good look. Also picked up a couple of cocktails that were absolutely fantastic (their old fashioned was so good with that bit of maple syrup). Normally, I love old fashioneds a lot more than any other cocktail, but the Viola 75 was so incredibly refreshing, I'm going to have to try that at home someday! For my first dish (besides the rolls) I picked up the burrata which had a delightful melding of flavors. Admittedly, I feel burrata is usually kind of boring, but they not only stuff this with ricotta, they also give you wonderful little candied kumquats and this perfectly toasted bread to pair it with. So good! My main dish was this beet risotto that I will probably remember forever. If you've ever been to Asheville, NC there's this restaurant called Curate that around the springtime makes the most amazing beets salad. This beet risotto from Aventine may just trump it. Finished off this splendid dinner with the Choux au Craquelin. I've had cream puffs before but this was far beyond that! The basil ice cream is so good! Paired it with a port and I was pretty much in heaven. read more

I only tried their tomato pie pizza ($17) and banana soufflé ($11). Their pizza pie is more like the Italian style than it is the American. Their soufflé was baked to perfection with a nice crisp layer. I have been craving those two since they are rare and especially in this area. And OMG yes! They did both really well. So glad I found this Gem in Rome. The atmosphere was really nice. Suited for a nice family & friends gathering but also nice for romantic dates. I felt like I was in Miami again. Our friends raved about their pasta and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our salads which ingredients were very fresh. The food was all very well prepared. We saved room for dessert with choices of the ice cream trio, chocolate flourless cake and peach cobbler. Our waitress was highly attentive and also offered several recommendations that helped us in our selections. Second time visiting this restaurant. The first was when they first opened, I was on a date ordered chicken that came out bleeding. Okay, so let's fast forward to the present. I called in an order for a full Caesar Salad with chicken and a side of pinto's...the pintos were the consistency of leftovers. The Caesar salad was freaking ridiculous!! A bed of lettuce with a couple of slivers of Parmesan! When I pulled up, I paid over the phone, the waitress walked up to the car and said my card was declined. I knew better, but I felt she didn't believe me, as she heightened her valley girl accent. It was embarrassing to say the least, as it was an error on their behalf. My order came with no cutlery, napkins nor condiments. Highly disappointed in the quality and service. It's a double negative for me guys. While visiting Rome and my daughter who was is at school there locally, I wanted to take her somewhere that she wouldn't normally go. Aventine looked like a top choice on Yelp. We have tried to come before, but we could never get a reservation on short notice. So I had planned ahead and book this one over a week before. It certainly did not disappoint! We were seated in the corner with plenty of room. We came in early, around 5:30 PM and the restaurant filled up quickly. There is also really nice outdoor seating, which was covered and heated due to this February visit. Though it seemed plenty comfortable for people dining out there as they also had ceiling heaters to keep everybody warm. The two of us started out with The Everything Crab dip, which included blue crab, cream cheese, everything seasoning with lightly toasted focaccia bread. It was just absolutely amazing, but better for a table of four, rather than two. I had the chicken and spinach pizza, which had a very light, yet amazing bacon jam base. Very cheesy, with goat, mozzarella and ricotta cheeses. Crust was perfect. The two of us could've easily shared this and still been full. She had the Campanella pasta with roasted garlic and crab. She was able to take a lot of leftovers back to her dorm. The service was absolutely outstanding, as the server was very well-versed in all the dishes, ingredients and explained how everything was farm to table. It is served with broccolini but of course I changed that to the pomme frites (fancy French fries) and they were also outstanding. Wife got the fig ravioli which I had my doubts about but she said it was crazy good. Finished with the chocolate soufflé with vanilla gelato. Also ridiculously good. We had a glass of wine and two martinis. Check came $116.00. A deal for what we got. Won't come back to Rome unless I can eat here. Also Hillary our server was delightful. We just attended an event honoring the Davies Shelters and, just as very other visit we've had at Aventine, it was an excellent experience. The generosity of this staff, owner and venue is unmatched. The food was excellent and the setting was lovely. From beginning to end Aventine hit every right note. I hope other folks who attended see how fortunate we are to have a restaurant like Aventine with owners, managers and servers who genuinely seem to care about our community.
