This is the greatest collection of hair professionals I've found in the South Bay. If you're fortunate to get the boss, cool but any of his other Ladies are well worth your time. This review is solely based on my interaction with Tran. I had my first appointment with him yesterday and upon meeting him I was very comfortable. He was very professional with his questions but yet he makes you feel very at ease. He makes his suggestions and he fully explains things to you. I basically told him that he could be want he felt was the best for me. Please note that I recently moved to California and I had the same stylist for 20+ years so I was nervous!!! Made an appointment to have a haircut and was never told with whom. Called to rescheduled the day of and no one answered and I left a message. I called later in the day again to see if I could get a hold of someone, but no one answered. I finally got a hold of someone the next day and straight from the top, the guy that answered was extremely rude when I gave my name and explained my situation. He went off like " I don't know who you're stylist is, I've been trying to find out and I don't know, go on the website and find out who it is because I can't help you!" Not my fault the lady who scheduled me did not give me the stylist name. Then he accused me of calling several times as if I was harassing him. So ridiculous! This place is awful and they obviously do not know anything about customer services. No one even had the courtesy to call me back after I left my message. If you want to be scolded, this is definitely the place to be disrespected --I guess they make enough money to disrespect new clients. It would have been my first time and I'm glad I did not waste my money on those kind of people. read more

Good haircuts, horrible customer service and salon appearance. I had such an good experience with Chops salon, I went to the same stylist a couple of times and then I hired her to do my hair as well as my bridesmaids hair for my wedding a couple of years ago. After that experience I called her and the salon multiple times to make an appointment with her, however I never received a call back. After 5 or so attempts I finally had to look elsewhere where they have a receptionist who actually answers the phone. The salon can also use some updating and cleaning, the tools used were noticeably dirty as well as the sinks to wash hair. read more

I've been growing out my hair for over a year, and decided to finally get a haircut. One of my friends recommended me to try out tran, a stylist at chops. I texted tran to set up my appointment and showed up about 10 minutes early, he greeted me with a smile + a joke and went straight to work! He took about 10 minutes to ask me what I was looking for and told me what the process would be, after he explained what he was going to do, I was reassured and ready. He spent an hour on my hair! I just recently started going to Shanni this past year and she really is the best! She always knows what I want and is GREAT with color! I've had a cut, color and highlights with her and I have always been 100% happy. She doesn't overlap her clients, so you won't have to wait an extra hour to get your hair done because your stylist is trying to fit in more than they can handle. You know what I'm talking about, we've all been through it. This place has a great parking lot attached to it, so it's easy to get in and out which is important. If you have the same taste as Bernardo, he'll give you the haircut you want. If you have different taste, he'll give you the haircut HE wants. When I got home and brushed my hair out to my usual style, I realized he didn't follow my instructions at all. I asked for blended layers, but there are clearly three very distinct, stair-steppy layers. We agreed on just an inch or two of layering, but he did nearly six inches between the shortest and longest parts. I asked for my hair to be angled up toward my face, instead there's just a short chunk in the front that if anything gets slightly longer near my face. It's not that it's a bad haircut, it's just the opposite of what I asked for. read more

I first came to Chops about 3 months ago. I needed some highlights and I wanted my base color lightened all the way around. The hairstylist I had been going to in Hollywood had tried to do what I wanted and made the highlights look like huge blond streaks, not attractive at all. Enter master colorist Sandra Zislis! Sandra had told me that she could correct the challenge and make my hair look NATURAL blonde, with the highlights accenting the lighter base color. After over 27 years of WANTING my hair like it was when I was in my 20's SANDRA FINALLY did what NO OTHER COLORIST was able to do! She made my hair look NATURAL! NO ONE can tell I'm not a natural blonde, and everyone asks me 'where do you get your hair done?'. Bottom line, I wouldn't trust ANYONE ELSE to color my hair ever again, now that I found Sandra, I'm keeping her FOREVER!! Sandra Rocks! Oh, and she knows how to cut LONG HAIR too, without CHOPPING it all off. Although the name of the salon is Chops, it is nice to see Sandra is such a thoughtful hairstylist. And what a sweetheart! Sandra goes out of her way to make sure I am accommodated time wise, and if we are short on time she always has me come back and makes sure to get it EXACTLY as I want it. I went to Bernardo and he did a FANTASTIC job on my hair. The cut and color are awesome, hip and young but not too young. I have a 2 year old and told him what I was looking for and he nailed it. I was so nervous about getting 4 inches + cut, but it needed to be done as I was LONG overdue. I haven't gotten my hair cut by a "professional" for over 10 years just chopping away over my bathroom sink. I had a VERY bad experience and was afraid to go anyone ever again. I thought, cutting it at home couldn't be worse than going out and paying somebody to screw it up. I wish I knew Bernardo 10 years ago!! Thank you Bernardo for bringing my hair back to life. I went to Bernardo. I love my color and the first visit he gave me a great cut. I thought I had found my place. On my second visit I told him same color and NO haircut. I did not need one. I told him 3 times no haircut. He picked up the scissors and I asked him again. You are not cutting my hair? He said no just a tiny trim . When he was all done I asked him what I owed him and he quoted me $10 more then my last visit. I told him and he dropped it back down and then I asked him if he was charging me for the trim the same price as my haircut the time before and he said yes. So I got ripped off. I told him 3 times no hair cut. He does it and then charges me. I will never go to him again. I can not trust him...... read more

My second visit to Chops Hair Salon was neither disappointing nor wavering in expert service or genuine friendliness. As a quintessential beach girl who spends a lot of time under the sun/playing in the sand and among the waves, my hair understandably takes a beating from the salty elements. Dryness, split ends--you get the idea. So I go and see James for a K-Pack Treatment and it's like miracle grow for my hair...he works the vitamins (and whatever other goodness is in that potion) into my locks, combs it all through, then puts it in a braid so that my hair can really soak it all up. The whole process takes 10, maybe 15 minutes, and it's up to you to decide how long you'd like to keep the K-Pack in your hair before rinsing out. I kept it in for 24 hours, and I can't tell you how amazing my hair felt. I kid you not: when I went to style my hair, it actually listened to me. My hair--from roots to top--felt amazingly soft and nourished for several days afterwards. It's like a detox for your scalp. I've decided to return to Chops every 1-2 months to keep my hair feeling fresh all year long...it's that beneficial. I hope you enjoy your visit to this unassuming and amazing salon! read more

Unfortunately the prices aren't listed online or ahead of time, (they were posted on the mirror) so we were a little surprised to hear it was $35. She deserves it, she did great work. It has taken me a while to write this review, but this Salon saved me from disaster last Halloween, and I was so impressed with them. I had a big event to go to in Hollywood, so I went to a salon next to my work to get a hot vampire look. Instead of sexy, voluminous vamp hair, I ended up with a bad 80's teased out disaster that probably had 2 bottles of hairspray in it. My hair was crunchy, matted, and sticking 3 feet off my head. It was after 5 on Halloween, and I had no chance of fixing it by myself. A friend of mine suggested Chops, so I gave them a call and the owner answered. He and the rest of the staff were going to be out on house calls, but they talked amongst themselves and took pity on me. They rearranged their schedules, so someone could meet me at the salon. It took two hours and a broken comb to get my hair back to normal, but it looked phenomenal when Bernando was finished with it. I went back to them after that for as long as I lived in CA. Their pricing is reasonable, and they are fantastic for special events like weddings. I have recommended them to all of my friends. read more
