I was in the mood for Chinese food and stumbled across this location. I called in my order of general tso shrimp. When I arrived I parked in the plaza lot. I walked in and told the lady my name. My food was ready and I paid and left. When I dug in I found myself removing a lot of the breading on the shrimp which left a bowl full of breading. When I ate, the meal was ok. Super sweet, but ok. I know general tso isn't even real chinese food General Tso's chicken was unheard of in Hunan, but was invented as an authentic dish in honor of Hunan by Chef Peng at his restaurant in Taipei BUT Chopstick king honestly makes the best general tso i've ever had! They make it actually spicy not "commercial restaurant spicy" it's incredibly flavorful & delicious! They have all the typical items you'd see anywhere but I honestly feel in this area, they take the most care, patience & love when making their food. Living nearby, i've ventured out to the other chinese food restaurants around town, none come close to chopstick king. I am not sure about the other reviews about ownership & bland food -- if you call & ask for extra spicy or change this that or anything -- they will happily accommodate trying to give you the best chinese takeout experience. I come here at least once a week for their awesome lunch specials -- cannot wait to try some other combos as well! No one goes in, but owner (super nice and always accommodating of preferences) takes payment and gives your order to you through a "box"" outside the window. Chopstick King in Lake Hopatcong has really good Chinese food. It is not a dine-in restaurant, although it does have 2 or 3 tables available for someone looking to grab a quick meal. The interior definitely needs a makeover, but the food is A+ for typical Chinese take-out. The entire strip mall that Chopstick King is located within was purchased by the family who owns Jefferson Diner, which is also located in that strip mall. They have given the exterior a complete face lift and have reworked the parking lot. They did a great job!! I took a star away because Chopstick King no longer offers delivery, which is a real downer for anyone living in this area since the only other place that delivers is Vinny & Son Pizza and Restaurant. read more

Why all the bad reviews? I don't think this place has the best chinese food but I thought our food was pretty darn fresh and delicious and the people working there were very friendly too. And that's saying alot. Most chinese places have some of the meanest staff working there. We came here on our way back from Pennsylvania, we ordered the szechuan beef, lobster low mein and the beef chow fun. Everything was hot, fresh and super yummy. And not super greasy like other chinese take out places. The lobster lomein was especially good. Try that. Over all, a very solid place, and people were friendly. The food here is always fresh and very good. If you ask them to go easy on the salt and soy sauce, they will do it for you. You can always add more if you want more. You can't take it out if it is too much. This place is always my choice when I don't have time to cook when the kids have lots of activities that day. It is a much better choice than just pizza. There are some bad reviews here that are quite hollow. Like, "I went there once..." or, "I went there 2 times." or, "They have one of their kids working there!" I have ordered food from Chopstick King somewhere around 50 times now and I have never really had a problem. The only thing close was getting, what I considered, too many bean sprouts with my order. (So from now on I ask for such without, and they are happy to comply). As some others here wrote, the people there are very nice and the food is good. I must add that I find their brown sauce to be my 2nd favorite from any Chinese restaurants. *Something that people, including myself, need to remember is that with Chinese food (especially), every place is a little different and with every order. Place 'A' may have the best egg or shrimp rolls ever, but their won-ton soup is just terrible. Place 'B' may have the best won-ton soup ever but terrible egg-rolls. I am a tough critic when it comes to Chinese food, my fav' style - and with every restaurant, from the best reputation to the worst you will read the pos' and neg' reviews. They sometimes have merit, but it is most often peoples difference in taste, or that one bad experience. And there is always the story of a hair or a bug. This does not mean that it is untrue, but there is always that story w/the best or the worst. - My Mother is one of my fav' cooks; chicken, pasta, stew, cookies, etc. In my top 10 fav' dishes, my Mother makes 5 of them. One time my Mom broke a glass and she did not know it, but some of the broken glass went into the food she was preparing. She really thought that she had carefully cleaned it all - and threw out anything that even could have been touched by it. Long story shorter, I ate a tiny bit of glass. Do I give her a bad review on her yearly cooking skills? It was a ricochet oddity that could have happened to anyone. - At Chopstick King I highly recommend: Beef Chow Fun. (I ask for beef, noodles and scallions only). These 3 bits are cooked perfectly and are of great quality. I ask for those 3 in the dish only because I do not like water chestnuts or bean sprouts. I am quite picky. :) I also recommend their Chicken and broccoli. The brown sauce is great - I even try to let it sit for as long as possible so the sauce adheres to the broccoli that much more. :) Their broccoli is not right out of the fridge and thrown in like some places (many people call that - 'getting it fresh' - that is far too hard and raw for me) - its texture is right in the middle of cooked w/the sauce and still has a crunch to it. The chicken is of good quality. I have been to many places where the chicken alone made me throw it all out. The shrimp and fried rice is also great there. If you are unsure, just ask them what their favorite is. The portions are a good size as someone else typed, and the prices are fair & usually better than most. My favorite go to place when family shows up and we have no food in the house. Great Chinese takeout. Quick and friendly service. Food is always fresh and tasty and generous portions. What my wife and I like the most is the food is never overwhelmed with salt and grease. The veggies are always nice and crispy never mushy. We just ordered several days ago for 3 adults and 2 hungry children. The bill came to a little over $40 and we were very happy and content. Everything was delicious and spot on. There was enough leftovers for my daughter to bring home a bag for her hubby. Cannot understand why some of the bad reviews. It is a small family business so some of the older children do pitch in during busy times. Please Show a little understanding and kindness for a hard working family.
