If the restaurant isn't interested in preparing a good meal, it shouldn't be open for lunch. I was very disappointed; I cook at home, and I wouldn't be too proud of serving such a meal. The rice was rather bland. The broccoli wasn't even warm and the chicken seemed tired. Salad was pretty good. Nice enough service. Good jazz soundtrack played softly, a plus. Ordered takeout and glad they're open on a holiday! I ordered the gyoza and "american" sashimi platter with miso soup. The gyoza was crispy and tasted like any other gyoza. The miso soup looked a little darker than I expected and upon tasting it, the base was sweeter than other miso soups I have had. I didn't care for the sweetness and expected my soup to be more savory. The sashimi was decent and had good thickness to each slice but the pieces were a little narrow. Had a great time at this sushi restaurant which might be the best sushi I've been to in the area so far. Food: I ordered the Fantasy Roll which was the perfect blend of fresh fish and fruit. Their smoked salmon nigiri was very good and I had a spicy salmon handroll with an unexpected crunch added. Service: the waitress was okay, helpful but pretty clearly annoyed by something. This venue has been going downhill First of all it's lunch hour and they gave me the dinner menu so I asked for the lunch menu and they made a fuss. The windows are dirty. There was no music playing. It was so darn quiet in there and the server kept sitting in the back we had to keep calling her for things and to pay. I ordered shrimp teriyaki. My wife and I were looking for something different for dinner this past Friday and thanks to a friend's Yelp review, we decided to check out Blossom. This is a small restaurant in a strip mall on Howard Blvd in Mt. Arlington. We came without a reservation, but luckily we were seated without a wait. The food here was very good! We started with Thai iced teas and a Philadelphia roll as an appetizer. For entrees, my wife had the Double Treat, which was sesame chicken and honey walnut shrimp. I had the Pineapple Passion which was chicken, shrimp, and scallops in a white sauce. Both dishes were excellent! The entrees came with a choice of salad or soup. I went with the Hot & Sour soup which was a bit too spicy for me. Service was very friendly. Prices average. The service is good, the staff have always been polite and attentive. It's the kind of place that you feel comfortable in jeans and a shirt or a little more dressed up. The booths are high backed so you can feel like you have your own space and the lighting is dim to help create some intimacy with your dinner partner. I ordered the teriyaki chicken bento box that came with soup or salad. I was surprised by the decent sized soup bowl. Bigger than what similar restaurants offer in the area. My bento box was decent, a good variety as what is expected in bento boxes. I had saved some of my teriyaki chicken for lunch the next day and something interesting happened. My chicken tasted like curry the next day. It didn't taste at all like curry the day I ordered it but on the second day, it definitely tasted like curry. Even my coworker who ordered the same thing as I, confirmed tasting curry. Very odd. Had dinner here with the family on a recent Monday night. Good meal! We started with miso soup, chicken wonton soup and yummy dumplings. Soups were robust and flavorful with generous portions. The yummy dumplings are a chicken, shrimp and vegetable mixture in steamed dumplings, garnished with an excellent peanut/sesame sauce. These were yummy, indeed. For entrees we ordered avocado rolls, duck breast, General Tso's shrimp and chicken, and champagne mango grilled salad. The rolls were freshly prepared with crisp vegetables,an excellent rendition of this favorite. The duck breast was great as well. Nice crisp skin, with moist firm meat and very little fat, sliced into manageable pieces. A hoison sauce and a garlic sauce are served on the side for dipping. The accompanying scallion pancakes were disappointing - on the greasy side and bland. The chicken and shrimp was beautifully plated, complete with an orchid garnish. The chicken was excellent - plump pieces of white meat dressed in sweet and spicy General Tso's sauce. The shrimp were thickly breaded, tails on, and fried lightly. These were dressed in a sweet mango sauce. The breading was a little too thick for my taste, and would have been easier to navigate without the tails. Still this is very tasty and a big portion. Lastly, the champagne mango grilled salad. This is served with strips of grilled jicama (in the turnip family) over a bed of greens with strips of mango, dressed with a sweet, mango dressing. The jicama is chicken-like and very tasty. The mango adds a nice sweet & tropical taste. This was a good one. The storefront restaurant has about 10 tables and a dozen chairs at the sushi bar. The interior is upscale and modern, done in dark wood. Service is friendly and quick and the food arrives promptly. Overall a good meal at a local Asian cuisine spot. read more

Breath taking, truly breath taking experience I just had at blossom asian bistro! By the time I could turn around after sitting down & ordering a drink -- the sushi chef turned & handed me an incredibly delicious squid appetizer with fresh ginger, seasoning & cucumber. Not only did this get me in the mood for more fresh sushi -- but was truly something delightful in my most humble of opinions. He went as far as checking in every so often to ensure each dish (attached below) were to my liking -- which they absolutely were! Now if we can quickly pause, I have at least a hundred sushi pictures on yelp -- I've been to even more unique restaurants & I believe to date, the best "special roll" I've ever had is without a doubt the ''mango tango roll' which is spicy king crab and avocado inside topped with fresh salmon, mango and caviar in chef's special sauce!! I had their standard American sushi which is tuna, salmon & yellowtail -- literally out of the hands of the sushi chef straight on my plate & ready to enjoy. It's truly the best experience & the taste/flavor profile drastically change as time passes by after it's been prepared vs when it is consumed. I also am a huge fan of kani salad, so if you're in the area & stopping in for some sushi -- definitely consider getting a side of kani salad -- prepared to perfection. Randomly found this place in an unassuming shopping center off I80 while visiting the dollar store. Absolutely didn't know the area and was getting desperately hungry. Had little to no expectations of the sushi and the select pan-Asian menu since finding decent Asian food is trial and error. To my pleasant surprise, avocado rolls we ordered were so fresh and well made and plated with simple elegance. Again, 0 expectations of good sushi + decent Chinese food but couldn't believe how tasty the chicken lomein came out - hot, quick, balanced seasoning with fresh chewy noodles that weren't overcooked. I was also impressed by the prompt service, friendly accommodating staff and the number of customers / regulars happy enjoying their meals. There was a good traffic for takeouts, too, so I guess they have a loyal local clientele. Prices are reasonable for the quality level of the sushi, food and service. Several weeks later, I was in the area again near dinner time so decided to splurge on another meal of sushi/sashimi and Japanese cooking. This restaurant is one of those rare finds and where you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. It look almost like a takeout restaurant from the outside but you'll be pleasantly surprised on the inside. The staff is Covid-cautious, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The sushi was excellent; we had the red tube/avocado and a white tuna roll. We had edamame, spring rolls, hot & sour soup and chicken corn soup. We had the filet mignon with walnut shrimp and the chicken with chilies and shrimp dishes; both dishes were good. I would recommend trying this place if you haven't. Has been a go to spot of mine for well over 10 years. My favorite items are the yummy dumplings, pineapple fried rice, Tom yam soup (spicy!), yellowtail jalapeño appetizer, the triple crown and the hot tea! My family has been going to this restaurant for more than a decade. However, it really needs some serious renewed commitment. Whether it's because the owners are at their two other locations, or because waitstaff has changed, service has gone downhill, along with the atmosphere. Especially off-putting was the fact that they were very clearly over-capacity for inside seating today when I came to pick up my take-out order: the booths were all filled, as were some of the tables. This is my go-to sushi place and I really only come here for that. It can get pretty crowded especially on a Friday/Saturday - but you'd expect that because there aren't too many other sushi places around here. I love how people on here are commenting on how 'fresh' the sushi is - obviously - it better be fresh, otherwise you'd be starting a congo line to the bathrooms. Other than the sushi being 'fresh'... i'm loving how Blossom is not the type of sushi place that just lathers on tons of the rice in the sushi rolls; instead they do give you a good helping of fish. Carbs are the enemy. Word of caution when ordering the Shrimp Tempura rolls, prepare for instant lock-jaw, as those things are huge. Unless you're that talented ;-P. read more
