Towing a car is never fun, yet a good towing company can make the ordeal bearable. My friend's old Jag blew the head gasket (I keep wondering why he insists on driving old British cars) and he was stranded just off Mopac. I went to go pick him up and help him out, and he was having trouble finding a tow. Fast forward a few hours after we had gotten him to his place and he got his other car to go wait for a tow truck, and he still was having problems getting one. Everyone he called said he had to wait a few hours minimum, and it was already past 7pm. I told him go on Yelp and start calling. He called Chote's, and to our surprise they told him he would be seeing a flatbed in about 15 minutes. About 15 minutes later Mike showed up with a flatbed and it just got better from there. He was super careful with the Jag, was incredibly professional and pleasant, and really eased my friend's stress levels. Turns out Mike is a gearhead, also and that showed. The Jag was brought home safe and sound, and Mike helped push it to a good spot, all the while concerned my friend wasn't straining himself (he has a cane currently due to a recent injury). The level of professionalism, enthusiasm and service are unparalleled in our opinions. Dare I say Chote's made this a pleasurable experience, and I cannot endorse them enough. A couple weeks ago my car suddenly decided not to start as I was leaving a date night. I didn't want to deal with it right away, but I called Chote's the next morning and they agreed to tow my car back to my house. Many tow services will only tow to shops, but my family works on my car, so it was important that I found a service who would tow to my home. The driver was not just courteous but friendly. Full disclosure: I used Chevron Travel Club for this towing, so maybe some of the fault was on their end. Anyways, I called yesterday at 2:25 and was told it would take the dispatched tow truck an hour to arrive. At 3:45 I called again and was told it would take an additional 45 minutes. At 5:10 I called yet again and was told that they just talked to the towing company and we were quoted another 45 minutes. I took this time to file a formal complaint about the Travel Club. I received a call from Chote's at 5:20 saying that the driver would call me soon. By 6:00, I still had heard nothing else and finally cancelled. It is completely ridiculous that I had to spend 3 AND A HALF HOURS waiting and still never even got my car towed. I would not recommend this service, especially if you are in any emergency situation. read more

The night before Easter, my car died downtown, and we had to leave it overnight in a paid lot. Unfortunately that meant I had only until 1pm on Easter Sunday to get it towed before someone else would do it for me, and NOT to a repair shop. I called several towing companies before finding Chote's. Rob was quick and friendly throughout the whole process -- EVEN after it turned out he'd driven all the way from Cedar Park to downtown Austin with the wrong key (our fault). He put more money in the meter for us to extend the time on the parking spot while we got him the right key, and finally got the car up to Cedar Park where it belonged. Great service. I broke down just off of 183 and every tow company said it would take an hour and a half or longer. I told the dispatcher at Chote's I had my eight year-old with me and we were stuck on the side of the road in 90+ degree heat. In the meantime, we got the car started and called to cancel. Dispatcher was still very nice and just said that he would call the driver to let him know. I'll get right to the point. Chote's Wrecker Service is awesome and I don't see why anyone else in Austin would go with a different service. I've worked with them twice now and after this last, more stressful situation, I think they deserve all the praise they've been getting. I'm not in town at the moment but I left my car in a legal parking spot and it was reported for vehicle abatement due to a flat tire. I needed it towed quickly before it would be impounded and the fact that I'm not there to handle the situation in person just made it all more stressful for me. My expectations were exceeded by the great folks at Chote's! My car broke down about a half mile from home, which normally wouldn't be a big deal except that I'm nine months pregnant. I called Chote's based on the great Yelp reviews (which are pretty darn accurate) and was first off left in stitches by the dispatcher, Carmen. She's just delightful, and she took my info with the promise that someone would meet me with my car in about 30 minutes. Half an hour later James arrived and took care of everything from there. Unfortunately my girlfriend and I had to call a tow truck yesterday when the clutch went out on her car. We called Chotes and within 20 minutes we had someone out there to pick the car up. Shannon was the driver dispatched to us and we can't speak more highly of his service. He called us in advance and got our exact location while on his way and gave us an accurate eta. When he showed up he was very friendly and provided good conversation during the whole process. In conversation we had talked about what was going with the car and he provided us a few places we could take the car to which was helpful. Called up Chote's to get my car towed from my house to an auto repair shop in North Austin. As they dropped it off they cracked the front bumper of the car. Then they hastily called up a shady body repair guy that looked fresh out of jail to do it on the cheap and avoid insurance getting involved or having to pay more at a professional body shop. By the time i could get off work and get over there their body mechanic had the front of my car in pieces and said it would be done the next day. Alright, whatever. I can live with that. Seven days later, still no car only terrible excuses. Every time i go to the Chote's driver that caused this mess to ask what is up, they are rude, and this last time when i called demanding to get a firm answer on when the work would be completed they hung up on me. My trusty 1997 Volvo failed me while I was delivering Meals on Wheels. Last time I had used a tow service was in 1974 to tow home a 1963 VW van I had purchased with a blown transaxle. Naturally I went to Yelp for a recommendation. Chote looked like the one to use and sure enough Yelp came through one more time. When I called I stated it wasn't an emergency so work me in around more pressing calls. Forty minutes later I received a call saying Steve would meet me at the Volvo in 30 minutes. He arrived in 25 minutes. Great guy, very professional and efficient and he brought me up to speed on drag racing which I hadn't followed in 30 years. Mike came out to help me get my truck started. I thought the alternator was out since I couldn't get it to jump. He figured it was just the battery, so he jumped it and said do not turn it off until you can get the battery replaced. He saved me a ton of money by NOT towing it to my mechanic. He was very personable and respectful of my time. He was very upfront on the timing and it worked out just fine for me since I wasn't in a hurry. Communicated any delays as soon as he new about them. I was driving my 64 Mustang on 183 when my left rear tire came off and just about ripped out my rear end. I called a total of four wreckers and chote's being the last one. But was the first one on side. They hooked up to my car that was in the middle of the highway and had it on there tow truck in under 10 minutes with the whole rear end ripped out. They did not cause any extra damage to my vehicle and they were very reasonably priced I will call them back every time I need a Tow Thank you guys. This was not a good experience. My car had been stolen and later found in nw austin, unable to crank. I called several tow services that all charged mileage fees + hookup. Chote's quoted $75.00 flat fee with No mileage fees (telephone quote). the driver got out of the truck and said that "tips are always appreciated". He then hooked up the car and we went to south austin (my home). When we got to the house, he immediately said there would be an additional fee of $32.00 b/c we drove 16 miles ($2.00 per mile). He would not even start to unhook my car until I agreed to give him extra cash. While unhooking my car, he said "besides, it's Easter and I have to get my kids something nice"!! After getting the car on the ground, I gave him $75.00 and only had another $15.00- which he gladly took and said, "we'll call it even" He listed the 16 miles on the receipt, wrote that I paid cash $75.00, but never wrote the extra $15.00 any where on the receipt. I do not remember his name, but he was a fairly big white male with numerous tattooes. Especially, 2 big suns on his calves- 1 is angry & the other is sneering. Chotes is the best! Mike helped me move a 10X12 foot shed from one residence to another when no one else would! He went out of his way to get me get a permit to legally move it and helped me do it that same day. On June 10, 2015, my son's busted an oil line in his car. He had transmission fluid spill out. He was unable to drive the car. We called AAMCO and they had the car towed in. Chotes Wrecker Service received the call and they dispatch a wrecker to pick up the car. They showed up at the wrong parking garage to start of the day and I think the driver was already mad when he found the correct location. In trying to load the car he damaged the front and rear fender. He also bent the rim on the car. My son found this out when the bent rim damaged the tire and caused a blowout. He had to buy a new rim and a new tire. The estimated damage to car is in excess of $2000. We have tried to contact Robbie (Owner) numerous times but he will not return the calls. He is always either not available or on a call out. He has not even answered the emails. Not sure how he does busy but I would sure not call on him to pick your vehicle up.
