This used to be one of my favorite places. I used to get the Monte Cristo sandwich made with lemon poached chicken, coke boiled ham and blueberry infused mayo. That was really good for a while, but overall and after many visits there, there are too many misses and very little consistency. If you have a favorite that you like and can go to it over and over again, then you're good. And while I appreciate their creativity, I can't get past the inconsistencies in how things are made. Too much salt (and I love salt), too much garlic (at times) where you wouldn't expect it and certainly don't want large amounts of it *raw*. I ordered mac and cheese balls once and it was loaded with raw garlic. Why??? They were good the time before that. Too greasy at times and just an overall lack of foodie finesse. It seems like pretty much anything goes and it all depends on who is in the kitchen. Not a great way to run a kitchen unless it';s just a means of feeding people who have had too much to drink and aren't really there for the food. The last time I went was the last time I'll go. I took my boyfriend, who is a huge burger and bacon fan. He wanted a pretty "plain" burger. He asked for mustard and mayo and they didn't have any. They have piggy may, blueberry mayo and different sauces, but there's no way to get mayo and mustard for your burger. He thought the bread was too hard "it was old or just left sitting out too long ciabatta." The burger itself was overcooked. Why ask how you want it cooked if it's going to be really well done. Anyway - if you want a walk on the wild side to see how over the top food can be check it out. If you're a foodie then you may find it just over the top. read more

My wife and I are avid burger lovers and this place is our new favorite! We love everything here! The service is great, the ambiance is novel, there's a full bar and the BURGERS! are truly original. Sure, they have the same 5 burgers you can find anywhere, but each with an original twist... AND there's easily 15 other burgers you can't find anywhere else! I really must try them all! Chow is a really good restaurant! The food they serve is very fresh and delicious. Their food can be a bit on the spicy side but over all it is great in taste. Personally I am not a fan for spicy food but this food wasn't outrageous. Especially considering other restaurants. Definitely a great place to enjoy a great meal at. read more

To me, the food they serve outweighs any negatives this place might have. The Decour is very basic and unimpressive but the food overshadows this. I had the bacon cheeseburger on crack. This lives up to its hype. The bread is warm and obviously freshly made. The bacon was perfect. The burger was a pleasure to eat. All of their food they serve is locally sourced. The tots were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The way tots were meant to be. Terrific spices with options of Cajun or house and more. I have eaten and very few places that deserve a great praise. This is definitely one of them. read more

Whoa! Talk about a food coma! The menu at Chow's will overwhelm you with all the fabulous choices. Once you finally make a decision, the food will blow you away. It's amazing!! So I ordered the Mac Attack a burger who's description said fried mac and cheese with a bun with burned on cheese. What I got was a jalapeno filled pain in the stomach. Who puts spice in mac and cheese, and especially doesn't mention that it will be hot on the menu. Not everyone is on board with this trend if making everything spicy, some of us want food that tastes good, not just spice. read more

I found Chow on Yelp when I was in downtown Springfield running errands. I had lunch in the "Moe's Tavern" side of the establishment. I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere, service, and menu. A nice "gastropub" type of place. Cold beer, creative menu of typical fare with a modern, innovative preparation that takes you far away from the norm. I enjoyed it, and will be back. The Simpsons "Moe's" connection is there, but intelligently downplayed, so that the casual diner isn't bombarded with Simpson-esque memorabilia, but keeps it interesting for those seeking it out. Amanda was the bartender - very personable and attentive. Feel free to give her a hard time about the old Bart Simpson prank call to Moe's looking for "Amanda Huggenkiss". We sat on the Moe's Tavern side but the Chow menu is wonderful. Amazing burgers and fried pickles. They serve their burgers on a ciabatta bun which I love. I also love shoestring fries so for me this place has some of the best burgers and fries in town. Wonderful staff, Rachel is very knowledgeable of the menu and very friendly. This place is so amazing my friend and I ate there three times in one week! Not even joking lol. The mac and cheese is to die for!!!The Monte Cristo, phenomenal!! The Brie, apple and bacon (BAB) such a great combo of flavors. The Big Momma burger however, is definitely not for a girly man. My husband has a huge appetite and after a four hour flight he was starving. The Big Momma burger was perfect and he was totally impressed! I've never left a review before, but here it goes. My partner and I strolled into chow to get a burger before a movie. We look over the ridiculously long menu and decide on what we want. I order a medium burger and my partner orders a chicken sandwich and we wait. We had ordered a salad to share before our burgers, but it arrived after the burgers, but whatever. I'm not high maintenance. Then I bite into my burger. It crumbles and is bright red when I bite in. There's no variation in color throughout the burger. It's just bright red. It was cold. The cheese wasn't even melted. It took the bartender over ten minutes to come check on us despite the fact that there were only 4 people in the whole place. And when he asked how the food was, I told him the burger was undercooked, but i didn't need it remade bc we didn't have time and I had a salad that was very yummy and I'd just like it taken off the bill. Before looking at the meat, he assured me that what he had served was a "true medium" and that I had no clue what I was talking about, (even though I've worked in food services for 11 years and spent 5 of them in very fine dining in a city known for its food scene.) He then told me they don't take items off of bills. (Which is absolutely wild and something you would only say if the business is failing miserably) He was hesitant to send it back, but when he did, the "chef" verified that it was "leaning toward the medium rare side and would take it off the bill." So the bottom line is, I get that mistakes happen, but this guy sucked and was super condescending and I wouldn't recommend going here. Just put your vacation money to real use and come here every day. Their Burgers, dear god their burgers, so good, I literally just buy the same one every time because the "Big Mama" has reached into my chest and lit a fire, a desire for meat that only a horny sheltered Christain woman could understand. Their food is so good, you don't have to look at the menu. Just close your eyes and whatever your finger lands on, get it and hope you aren't allergic. But eat it anyway, and when you die, know you died in heaven cause that's what they serve, juicy pieces of heaven that come with caramelized bacon strips and onion-bacon jam. Wow!!! My husband and I were both really hungry and too tired to cook tonight, so we thought we'd check out Chow for dinner-- and we're so glad we did!!! While we do eat fish from time to time, we're mainly vegetarians, and we were happy to see plenty of good options for us on the menu. First, we shared a bowl of roasted red pepper, tomato bisque. It was perfectly spiced--it packed a punch, but we could still taste the star ingredients. Next, I had a crazy-delicious portobello sandwich with lots of crisp arugula, blue cheese, and caramelized onions, with a side of truffle, sea salt fries. My husband had tuna melt (with a nice kick of horseradish) and a side of onion fries-- which were lightly battered, almost like a good tempura. We dipped not only our fries, but also bites of sandwiches in the house made sauces, which were both excellent. Finally, even though we were both STUFFED (the portion sizes are pretty big-I ended up bringing half my dinner home), we had a delicious chocolate-chip/coconut bread pudding for desert. Our server, Leanne, was just wonderful--she was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and enthusiastic, both about the menu items and about the idea behind serving locally sourced food (as much as possible). Wow. Burgers here are top notch. This place is kind of under the radar. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the burger selection was here. That's what I was after for dinner, but it looked like there was some other really good selections on the menu too. Wait staff super friendly and helpful. Chow is one of those places you can't forget- then you just keep thinking about how bad you want to go back. I've been twice now... The first trip my girlfriend and I sat in the restaurant part of the building. The waitress was so friendly and knowledgeable about all the food and beer. You could tell she loves her job and is proud to work at such a great, quirkey burger joint. The owner and chef (I think) was at the counter slicing onions and we made sure to tell him how impressed we were with everything. We were not disappointed with the delicious burgers (ground daily for Chow at 85/15-lean/fat). The burger quality itself made the burger amazing but it was over the top with a fresh bun and housemade sauces, candied bacon, and fresh vegetables! The carmelized roasted onions were heavenly. Plus you can get fries or tots or sweet potato fries with your burger and a variety of flavor combinations and toppings if you want. The second time we went we sat in the bar and got top notch service from the bartender. I got the burger with the roasted jalepenos, onions, and bbq sauce and it was definitely one of the best burgers I've ever had. Just as an added note...the party who sat next to us was extemely high maintenance. The bartender remained friendly even though they had some ridiculous requests and were kind of rude to her. We checked out this place on our way down I-5. It's not too far off track, and there are plenty of choices! It's mostly sandwiches and salads, but they are fancy enough for dinner :) Seems like most choices had meat, but for my veggie friends, they could probably keep it off. This place is amazing!!! Great beer selection. They have a HUGE menu, like 20 burgers! I had the bacon cheeseburger on crack, my husband had the Ruby burger. The burgers, fries, and tots were AMAZING!!!!!! Why is this place not packed every night????? Great seating indoors and outdoors. We sat outside with our 2 dogs. The service was friendly. We are regular customers at Chow and enjoy a good, fresh cup of coffee as part of our dining experience. I understand that Chow is not known for its coffee, but I was amazed how little they regard the process. We asked the server to rinse out the pot before brewing a new pot, as it looked pretty grungy with coffee stains and bitter oils. We were seated right next to the coffee station and there was a sink right next to it. The server blew us off, remade coffee in the grungy pot,then got defensive when we refused the coffee. Asked to speak to the chef/manager who also had a "screw you" attitude about the coffee, stating they washed the pot after the restaurant closed. If it's too much trouble to make a decent cup of coffee, take it off the menu and refer people to the Dutch Bros in the parking lot. Needless to say, we will be taking a pass on Chow for a while. I'll miss the bacon, but not the attitude! read more

Wow! I had lunch at Chow today. I will definitely go back. I agree with the previous reviewer, I need to try more before I give it five stars but I expect that to happen soon. I had the steak sandwich with fries. It was superb. Served open face: shaved prime rib with great seasoning on a killer slice of bread with pesto and chimichurri. Yum. One of the chefs came around to offer us a bite of bacon with caramel-- it looked and smelled great but I was too full-- half my lunch went home with me. My friend's Mac and cheese looked good too. Apparently they make all their own desserts and what we saw go by looked delicious. Easy in and easy out at the light. Great service and they were very concerned about how everything was and whether they could get us anything else. I like this place and I am definitely going to go back! read more
