Everytime I come in I get a good waitress the food is always good I love the salt and pepper shrimp with the steaks

The only time in my life I've ever had food poisoning. Too many items to decide what caused it. Will never return.

I've always in this area, but never thought about eating at Chow Town until the other day. The outside of the building is nice, but the inside could use a remodeling. The fried rice was ok, but it looks like steamed rice. Most of the food I'd enjoyed, but they didn't have any info on what you're eating including the sushi which I would like to have known what dish I was eating. That also could be a problem if you're a vegetarian. Customer service was nice, but the buffet is a little pricey and that was doing the lunch hours. read more

Oh Yelp! Chow Town is on point today. Bae and I, went to lunch today. He loves Chinese and is a Chow town regular. Me, not so much. But Today! Y'all fresh and good. Let's start with the dining space, CLEAN! I like this. Keep it up. Our server, sweet and attentive. No, I didn't catch her name. Thanks for your good service, though. Food, I don't know what Bae got, he got everything he got. But, I got Lo mein with black pepper chicken, mushroom chicken, chicken and broccoli and honey chicken on top in a circle. I got a soup bowl of fried rice with brown gravy on top with green beans, hot and regular wings with a side of salmon. Delish! Then I had fruit! This stuff here good. No good!!! I eat all seafood. I left Shrimp uneaten ( that bad) did not try fried shrimp as looked like Gordon's (pre battered & cooked) the food just was awful! Our friend has been to many buffet's but could not find anything he could eat, he did get rice & some mushrooms, the mushrooms also tasted bad! Told young male at register we would never come back, "ok"! So apparently u guys do not care! Food shows it . Restroom was FILTHY WITH NO PAPER IN OBE STALL, another WOULD NOT FLUSH. We love Chinese food and I love Sushi and my family loves buffets. This should have been a perfect fit, but it wasn't. Chow Town has been an extended family favorite over the last couple years because of the variety of seafood available. It started out a 5 star and over our last few visits ended up at a 2 star. The buffet food on the bar is warm and looks like it has been siting out awhile. When the food is gone, it's not refilled or they put out only enough for a couple people to fill their plates - and wait another 15 minutes before putting anymore out. While we were eating, the staff start brooming the floor under and around me and even hit my chair. The last several visits have been disappointing and eating here could frankly be dangerous because the last time my husband and I ate there, we both had got very sick with diarrhea. If you love Chinese buffets, seafood or crab legs, seek out somewhere else. It's not worth visiting Chow Town for a meal. read more

I would say it is what it is. Your standard "Chinese" buffet. VERY anglicized Chinese food. Fair price. Fairly clean place. Probably good for kids. For me the sushi was not cold enough. Hibachi had cross contamination of the meats. Skipped that. Hot and sour had a gravy flavor, which was odd. Beef and broccoli was about all I ate with steamed rice. And the grilled chicken on a stick. Fried rice was not fried at all. Ambience wise it's a cute place. Unfortunately they pack everyone sitting right next to each other, for no reason. Honestly, I was fairly impressed by this Birmingham buffet. After reading the review, I was a bit hesitant on trying it out, but am glad I did! The restaurant is clean and spacious and the selection itself is nothing to laugh about. They have the standard Chinese buffet options: hibachi grill, sushi, hot foods, and dessert. My favorite dishes were the coconut shrimp and the sesame chicken. I will say that some of the less popular foods were left out and looked unappealing, but the more popular foods were definitely always hot and ready to eat! The pricing is standard for a Chinese buffet. I'd say that along with the food options and taste, this buffet gives King Buffet a run for its money. The service here was kind and attentive to refilling our waters and made sure that nothing piled up. If I'm feeling glutinous for Chinese food, I'll definitely hit this place up! read more

Chow Town had a great atompshere and the service was agreeable; however this standard did not translate to the food. For a buffet restaurant of it's size, the amount of options was lacking- there were many non-Chinese/Asian items, which is fine and normal at many such buffets but they took up the majority of the options at Chow Town. What actual Chinese food was available was bland, and some like the Lo Mein noodles were borderline tasteless. For the price of entry, you would expect what food you can sample to be decent, but Chow Town comes up short in both quantity and quality. read more

A picture is worth a thousand words, so I uploaded 4000 words. I am not a big fan of Crab Legs, but if you use Crab Legs as your excuse to jack the Lunch Rate up to the dinner rate, you should provide some product. We got a front row seat to the portion of the buffet where the elusive crab legs make an appearance about twice and hour with enough to feed 2 people, or one really hungry person. Which the person at the front of the crab leg line usually is. Most likely a nightly occurrence is folks standing online waiting for the tray of 8 or 10 crab leg sections, (see my photo) which disappear before the third person reaches the front of the line. Its a bait and switch and if you come for crab legs, be prepared for a wait. Now if you came for sushi..........ummm, well I guess it depends on your definition of sushi. Imitation crab, rice and cream cheese? Wooo hooo you have come to the right place!! Sushi with fish, like Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp.......... fuggettaboutit!! I dissected a piece of a roll and I found a piece of tuna smaller than a dime inside the imitation crab, cream cheese and rice. Hibachi Grill looked ok, the dishes on the buffet were plentiful with rice dishes (of course) other dishes were plentiful, and flavor was ok. 1 1/2 stars is about right. What's different about this place compared to other Chinese buffets is that they have their own sushi station. Don't see that a lot so it's a nice compromise if you and your group can't agree on a place to eat. Someone can have sushi, someone can get Chinese, and I've seen some people post pictures with pizza here?? Seems like a good option for fussy kids to me. I know that from my prior experience of being a kid! I didn't see a hibachi grill when I came here, but after reading other yelp reviews, I'll have to keep an eye out for it next time. read more

Typical Chinese Buffet I always judge any Chinese food restaurant by their hot/sour soup or egg drop soup. Both are at almost every one and are pretty standard aka hard to mess up. This place however messed them both up. It is a buffet so I got a small bowl of each. The hot/sour soup was about the consistency of a fresh loogie and the egg drop soup was almost neon yellow with the same consistency. Needless to say, I didn't get much of the egg drop soup down. The hot/sour was warm and flavorless-I think they did not have the right amount of bullion to water and both soups were loaded down with corn starch to thicken them. After that less than dazzling experience, I got one scoop of a basic beef with broccoli, which also somehow tasted watered down. If you want chunky thick water-hit this place up. Otherwise give Formosa or Ming's a go, way better. read more

I have eaten here more than once and that's kind of sad. This is where you come to eat when you're really hungry and can decide between seafood, Chinese or Japanese. The menus are almost identical for lunch and dinner. This buffet does provide a large variety of items that are all bland and just really lacking in flavor. I felt like I needed to add hot sauce to the rice and noodles to give them a kick. It just didn't seem like they used much seasoning at all. Another disappointment is the crab Rangoon. Such a staple at most Asian restaurants, but here it felt too sweet. They do have crab legs, which almost run out as soon as they are put out and unless you soak them in butter they aren't the greatest. The dessert is filled with what looks like fake foods. I need to start this by saying I don't eat at buffets. You pretty much have to force me in a buffet to eat there. Chow Town has had a lot of mixed reviews. Some people swear this is the only place they'll eat lunch, and some have said it was dirty. It being a buffet, there is a lot more chances for a less than sanitary dining room, but this was surprisingly clean! The dining room was simple and clean. Our waiter was very friendly. If my tea got anywhere close to half empty, he was quick to fill it. The buffet line had the selection I've come to expect from Chinese Buffets in the South, plenty of Chinese options and just as many American. The green beans were crisp and well seasoned. The Chicken and broccoli was great. However some of the American options looked a bit greasy. The dessert line was populated with mostly pre-made desserts you can get from Sysco or Restaurant Depot, but that is part of the nostalgia for me! I'm a local here at this restaurant but this last time made me write this review your reading. Hands down, I can't think of another Chinese restaurant that satisfies what I need. The buffet is always stocked and they're pretty good about rotating pans in and out. My waitress checked on me appropriately and even went the extra mile to give me the knowledge on one of the dishes. They're open on major holidays and the environment is suitable for family and friends. I couldn't have had a better experience. 10/10! read more

This has to be the worst Chinese food we've ever ate . Lukewarm food and all the food tasted the same like The shrimp tasted like the chicken and very bland rice . This is not the place to go if you like Chinese food ! The hibachi was alright but the atmosphere and the dirtiness of the restaurant made me lose my appetite . Take my word and skip this place unless you want E-Coli or a stomach ailment ! I can say everyone had a mask on but sure doesn't help when you let a kid dip his hands in the jello ! This just a step above your typical Chinese buffet. There is a wide variety of food that will please children and adults. The lunch food is always fresh as far as I can see. I'm not sure what people talk about when they say the food is old. The main course selections are replenished in small batches and often. The sushi is good, but I'd like item to be labeled so I know what I'm getting. They offer Spring Rolls as well as Egg Rolls. It's also priced right for what you get. read more
