I will NEVER eat at this place again. My husband and I dined there today with our kids, both 2 years old. I was charged for a 3-5 year old buffet. I told them of the error at check out and they acted as if I was lying. The manager wanted to see my kid, who had already been taken to the car, as if she could predict his age by looking at him. As you walk in you automatically smell old carpet. The place looks really really large and I am thinking there's no way the food could be as bad as this place look. I was willing to give the place the benefit of the doubt. Well we got seated and as I look around the place was dirty. There were napkins on the ground the tables are not clean. Then they sat us away from the food. So when I got to the actual buffet the food looked old. I went to grab a soup cup and the cups were dirty. There was old washed up food still in the cup! Then I looked at the chicken and it too was old and so much grease and batter. Now the sushi bar! OMG the fish was out to long it looked old and I'm thinking someone is going to get sick! I hope to god no one ate it. I would go on and one about the place but even reliving this makes me want to vomit. If I could give this place a zero I would. It was really disappointing because I'm not from Alabama and I was really hungry and when I pulled buffet up this place popped up. I never expect much from a buffet but never would I imagine this place to be so bad! The food the management, the service, the building was all awful! As far as your typical Americanized Asian buffet goes, this is good. They have a good bit of variety and it's fresh for the most part. They also have a hibachi option as well as a good variety of sushi choices. I especially enjoyed the honey chicken and California roll. read more

Chow Town is a decent Chinese buffet that offers the usual selection of Americanized asian dishes. Nothing is particularly incredible although the hot and sour soup is tasty. Remember, the purpose of buffets is to introduce as much food into your body as possible without necessarily caring about the quality. So pile that plate up with orange chicken and go to town. Very busy buffet with lots of choices. The food is always coming out fresh with lots of choices. Crab legs are the most popular item on menu, with a line forming waiting for them to come out. The desserts are the weakest link on the buffet. They are very strict about left over food. My 8 year old wanted to take his uneaten cake home with him. NO! THEY WANTED TO WEIGHT MY CHILD'S LEFT OVER CAKE AND CHARGE ME FOR IT. NO COMPROMISE. I will not be back. I understand the rule. But they have gone to seed with it. No flexibility. I had heard mixed reviews about this place. My partner and I were craving Chinese so we thought let's give It a try. This resturant has the worst service that I've ever experinced. Everyove from the management team to the servers (mine in particular was rude & very disrespectful). Upon our arrival the host/manager was rude & not very inviting. He didn't greet us, all he did was take us to our table & take our drink orders. Then our server was completly FOUL, once my girlfriend & I were running low on water. When asked for some assistance, our waiter was sitting at a table eating himself ( not taking care of his tables) When I asked him to come over to our table, he stuck his finger up (as if telling me to wait for him to finish eating) & made me wait until he was good & ready to see what I needed. Now it's a buffet so our plates are somewhat stacking up on our table. When I tried to get his attenion for him to assist us with our plates, he looked me off as if I wasn't there. After that I was ready to go, I told my girl to get the baby leave the food & lets go. The waiter tried to give me the bill, I told him that I'm not going to pay for bad service & I refused to pay. He then got the manager involed, Instead of the manager repremanding his employee,he tells me with a smile on his face (You don't have to tip but you MUST pay the bill). I told him "I'm not paying for bad service". He then calls the police. Upon the 1st officers arrival, I tell her my side of the story. Then two more officers pull up & now I'm looking like the bad guy. I asked if I could get a percentage off on the bill, the guy tells me "no I have to pay the full bill & there will be no discounts". In an effort to keep from being arrested, I payed the $23.00 bill (reluctanly) and left. While we were in the parking lot waiting on the police, another couple informed the manager that they recieved horrible service as well. At the end of the day the food is mediocre at best, & the service was complete CRAP. There is nothing nice about this establishiment. If you want to be treated with respect & feel like your appreciated for spending your hard earned money, don't go to Chow Town of Hoover, You'd be better off going to McDonalds. I was ecstatic when this buffet opened within a mile of my house, and I've had the willpower to resist most cravings but have caved a few times. Huge amount of menu items, and some non-standard dishes you don't see at all buffets. One time they had a peanut butter chicken that was very good, kind of Thai style. Been here before and the service was okay but 1hr 30 min before closing dining area became very populated. There was a roach in the bathroom after bringing it to the staff attention and asking for water the waiter snatched my cup and another waitress pushed pass me in a hurry nearly knocking my 3 year old over. I went there with a large party of my coworkers and they all liked it. Its the best buffet I ever had. They serve hundreds items of Chinese food, Japanese sushi and American food, including crb legs, oysters, steaks, ribs and many kinds of seafoods. I have eaten at several buffets in the Birmingham area and Chow Town by far has one of the largest selections in food, from meat and three, seafood, Chinese, sushi, salad bar to a grilled steak. My favorite is the Hot and Sour soup and the egg-rolls along with a glass of their sweet Tea. My children of course Love their ice cream. I will be back soon. The service is always very good and the Restaurant is very clean. I would highly recommend this location to anyone. read more

The hostess was more concerned about letting us know what time they were going to close than anything else. The hostess also refused to let me pick the seat I wanted.
