I've never had a bad experience here. I prefer going here over fast food options close by. My son loves the congee soup (no tofu). I really like their tocino plates, a little miffed that they don't offer white rice as an option (but no biggie). Service is fast, the place is clean (not spic & span) but definitely clean enough for me to want to sit down and have a meal. No negative commentary from me. Chowking, located inside Seafood City center, finally had their grand opening today. I went during my noon lunch hour and it was super packed! I waited in line for 20 mins and waited another 20 mins for my food. I assume the crowds will die down after it's been open a while. On the plus side, they handed out coupons today for free shake with meal purchase. Their menu consists of noodle soups, siopao, siomai, buchi, lumpia, fried chicken, rice meals - tilapia teppanyaki, mongolian beef, chicken, garlic chicken, breakfasts - longanisa/bangus, tocino/bangus, tapa/bangus, noodles - bihon guisado, canton guisado, palabok, spaghetti, lomi, and fried rice. They also have various drinks/ shakes - halo-halo, taho, gulaman, thai tea, mango/calamansi juice. I ordered the breakfast - tocino & bangus ($6.25) to go, which is supposed to come with garlic rice & eggs. When I got back to my desk I opened the box and found regular rice instead of garlic rice and lumpia instead of eggs. Oh well, I didn't mind cuz I love lumpia. read more

Chowking is the place where my family and I love to go to for a delicious Filipino breakfast, on a Sunday morning. I usually order the Tapa Bangus and also the Black Jelly drink. The tapa was flavorful and the bangus was nice and crispy. The Black jelly drink wasn't too sweet, but sweet enough. The cashier was very friendly. Service could be a little more faster, but the delicious, warm food they bring out can make up for that. I have also tried their Halo Halo and Taho and they are just as good! Ordered two dinner takeouts: grilled tilapia meal and the beef wonton soup. The wonton soup wasn't too bad - lots of small braised beef chunks that were well seasoned. Borderline salty even. The noodles were chewy and the wontons were tolerable. Soup came with some shredded cabbage which I liked. The tilapia meal was a mixed bag. Fish was cooked well but was on the sweet-salty side with the sauce. Side dish of noodles were over starchy - they stick together and was mushy. The two sesame balls and small bit of shrimp chips were OK. Wouldn't recommend this place unless they improve the food quality. For fast food, the Subway and Jollibee nearby are better options. read more

I JUST COME HERE FOR THE HALO HALO. It is the best. I won't share with the Twin. Don't give me "I just want one bite" crap. I will even buy you your own. Then you can take your one bite and now I have TWO halo halo! 5 stars goes for the halo halo. It is the best I've had (is that sad? I don't know where else to get one better). Very few fast food restaurants can manage to serve up food that resembles what is depicted on their menu boards. Chow King is one of those failures. I ordered the Garlic Chicken with shiu mai, sesame balls and rice. My lunch companion ordered the 2 piece Fried Chicken meal. Both orders also came with a rice noodle dish (pancit?) that was okay in flavor. The garlic chicken was a tad salty but not overbearing. We had to wait 10 minutes for the fried chicken but that was okay because we were warned in advance and it came out hot and quite tasty. The shiu mai and the sesame balls were probably reheated from frozen. The textures were a bit off-putting and the shiu mai was not nearly hot enough, lukewarm at best. It was also odd to us that while we had ordered or food "for here", it was served up in styro clamshells instead of plates. Is the only difference that you put it on a tray instead of in a bag? So, while we didn't hate the food, it was nothing to rave over either. On the other hand, at $5.99 per order including a medium soft drink, it was a nice diversion from the usual American style fast food restaurants. One thing the management could do a better job of is to keep the dining area clean. While not filthy, tables and seats needed to be wiped down. read more

Lack of communication behind counter to customers. Only ordered a "hot taho" shown in receipt. Received a halo-halo & black jelly instead. Let the employee (Mae) know at counter, showed my receipt and still didn't inform us if she could switch it to what we wanted or keep it? Brought it to my table to eat thinking they were going to make it and was asked if I want to "order it again" .. lol tanga, that was already my order to begin with. Said no, and left with no apology or understanding. Poor customer service in accommodating their mistakes. Si Mae "malande" (flirty) as soon as some guy came in, he had her attention instead. The food here used to be so much better. They've changed the menu a number of times and the meats are over cooked and greasy. Even the tofu in the taho isn't good and the sago balls in the taho aren't made well. The Union City Chow King makes much better taho. read more

This place has good food, the only thing is that the manager is very rude and likes to break the law by blocking the entrance door to the restaurant telling people lies that the door is broken and direct them to seafood city doors. I have personally check the doors and they both operate well. The manager is breaking the cal osha law by blocking those doors durinf businesses hours. Also its a safety hazard by putting such obstacles in the way of the door. This is very poor management. I hope Cal-osha give him a ticket fine for this. read more

First time here at this Chow King location, across the street from The Veranda, right inside the Seafood City. Place was clean and plenty of seatings for eating there. The 2 ladies at the front were nice, and helpful with our orders. Ordered ube ice cream and me and my sisters got halo halo. Very good!!! I love all halo halo. Really like their taho, halo-halo and siopao. For the menu selection and the price, really can't complain. You get what you pay for. What I don't like is the service. Always slow and feels like Squidward is always behind the counter. From the manager to the service crew there are no smiles and I get vibes like "Don't really care and seriously have no idea what I'm doing here". Ordered from the Jollibee across where they had at least 20 customers waiting for their orders so decided to go there for their taho and siopao while waiting since there had only 2 customers. I have lots of things to say about this fast food restaurant, but let me combine them all together... EVERYTHING IS A DISASTER!!!! All of it depends on the management. Customers should feel at ease as they enter the restaurant. I feel that the more cashiers who work in the front, the more cleanliness will appear. However, (As a former cashier) the management only requires one cashier on weekdays and two on weekends. The manager needs to do something about it. I'd say that it depends on the management. As a former employee, I noticed that the oil was not changed on a regular basis due to the recent manager and is still the manager today. Let's think about the customers' health. What if something bad happens to the customer (such as food poisoning)? Of course the manager NEEDS to do something about it ASAP. Everyone has to know about the coffee. Cashiers are forced by the manager to make coffee out of the non-sanitized coffee maker. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS MANAGER! Overall, the food is nasty. Honestly, even though the previous boss was strict and made everyone feel intense about the job, she made it seem as if everything was ok in the end. She made everybody feel as if we were all family. After she retired from Chowking and moved on to better things, the next manager now was and IS the one who messed this family around. He took advantaged of the cashiers and the kitchen workers. He even asked me if he could borrow my car to do some errands for Chowking... It was my first month working there and I was scared to be warned, so my stupid mind told me to say yes. He took like an hour in using my car. He paid me back but I know that this isn't acceptable. Every time I work closing shifts with him, I end up being short from my cash register. With the other two supervisors, I'm always exact. When I told the manager, his reason is always this... "Well, I've been working here longer so I think I know what I'm doing." He made me pay my own short... The most was $14. This manager, Noel Asuncion, should not take advantage of his employees. He's not fair at all. He is really sexist when it comes to work. He told me that men are faster than women. I proved him wrong that girls can be fast as guys. I pushed myself to clean everything til 9:30pm. Ok, this ain't the Philippines where men have to do all the work and women stay home to do grocery shopping and stay home. NO. HE ONLY WANTS TO HIRE GUYS AS CASHIERS AND KITCHEN WORKERS BECAUSE OF THEIR ABILITY TO CLEAN AND WORK QUICK! I thought this management and employment is equal. But I guess it isn't. He took advantage of his employees. When audit came, I was scared and I knew I got a bad grade for customer service. And my "Punishment" was getting more hours... The "Punishment" for one of the kitchen workers was reduced hours. Noel does not make any sense at all. I asked for part-time because I'm a full-time student. He put me to work 6 days a week... HE IS INSANE! I blame him for ruining 6 months of my life. My last day of working at Chowking, I did a little mistake (However the customer was ok with it) and the manager told me that I had to extend two more hours. I was furious, so I stormed straight to Noel and raised my voice that he had no right to extend me. He thinks I'm stressing him out... He told me to lower my voice. Of course he was embarrassed of the argument we had. I spoke for myself, the employees, AND for the supervisors. I feel that employees should not be afraid to argue, to suggest, or anything they want to say. You know what? I don't regret doing that because I finally let go of every problem about him. Think about it, how did he become manager after what he had and has done? I really want HR and corporate to observe him carefully. You don't know what he's hiding. read more

If you've read my reviews you should know how big I am on service and cleanliness. Man Chow King needs so get it back together. IDK what was going on tonight here, but the delight that I had when I first had food at this location is starting to fade....let me tell you why. I like to think outside the box, when it comes to "faster" food I would choose a Panda Express, L&L Hawaiian BBQ or Jollibee over a Mickey D's, BK or KFC anyday. Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese....you get my drift right? I like the options here, with many fast food spots today the options all seem the same. Nothing more than I dislike is when I go to an establishment and see friench fries on the menu when really it shouldn't be on the menu at all. Not here at Chow King, they serve the food that is suppose to be on the menu. And most of the time its delicious. Chow King feels like a proper sit down restaurant but faster and cheaper. They have rice bowls, soups, plate lunches aka lauriats and boba teas, and other sorted desserts. So with that all being said, I am usually completely satisfied and have no major issues with this place as far as the food goes, sorry I lied, the Thai Ice Tea is horrible. It tasted like sugar water colored orange with about 5 boba in it.....I will pass on this next time. But my issue here and has been the issue as of recently is cleanliness and service which is poor... First of all, when you're at work, its a place of business. If you have friends you want to chat with, do it on your own time. Especially when it comes to the general public wanting their meals. There shouldn't be any reason why I can't get my meal and go, because you want to laugh and talk while hungry people are getting frustrated. Like after 25 or so minutes of sitting and watch my food get cold on the counter behind the clerk, I finally got up and checked her friends and said "Yo is that my Food B?" she then proceeded to say yea and gave it to me and went back to talking and laughing with her possie....like seriously? I wasn't the only one pissed, I seen a guy with his family get up and say something in anger to her in his native tongue, tagalog I assume. In the meantime while she was yapping the tables still needed to be cleaned, chairs tucked in, and all those orders piling up needed to get out to the customers. Awful..just aweful service and the sad part is the manager sat around letting this happen. Yea..she would of been written up and her friends would of been kindly asked to leave. In conclusion, the food isn't my issue here, the service is lacking. I feel my 3 stars are on the food alone. But if the service and attention to detail returns, then this would be a five star place. But then again this is my experience here. If you're in Concord and want to grab a bite. Come to this location off Diamond Blvd. Close to highway 680 and DMV. I'm fabulous but not FOBulous but I have to rate Chow King Concord in the not so fabulous category. I've been here on a number of occasions, on the weekday, on the weekend, at lunch rush, past lunch rush, etc. It doesn't seem to matter when I get here but service is s l o w. Either it takes awhile to take your order or it takes your order awhile to get to you and sometimes, if you're really unlucky, it is both. Ugh. The quality of the food depends on the luck of the draw. I've never outright hated anything or had any major problems with the food aside from it maybe not suiting my palate but that goes for any restaurant. The food gods seem to hate my sister because she not only got stuck with waiting forever to get her order taken, then waited forever to have order filled, only to return to our table with a noodle soup that was missing all the good stuff (meat, dumplings, etc.) She was so pissed by that point she just slurped up what she had rather than go back to wait another half hour for lukewarm soup. This is the most DESPICABLE filipino fast food place I've ever HAD! I ordered the garlic chicken meal....80% of it was just deep-fried BONES! My girlfriend got the palabok, and the noodles were uncooked. My other company got other noodle soup dishes, and said it was too salty, and that cup o' noodles tastes better. I was on the border of being hANGER after driving for nearly 3 hours from Truckee and really needed to find a place to eat. It's not like I didn't consume copious amounts of Filipino foods when I was with my family up in Truckee, but, I was feeling a little sad after separating from them that I decided to go to the closest Seafood City that I could and knowing oh too well that I would find a Filipino restaurant nearby. This location of Seafood City has a Jollibee, Chow King, and Tokyo Tokyo. I wanted to feel relatively better about what I was going to eat, and against my better judgment went with a fresh lumpia at Chow King. Now, my visit to Chow King wasn't all that memorable. I remember that the fresh lumpia was, meh ... and the wait time was ten times better than the one in San Jose. An ok visit, but nothing gourmet, nor nothing terrible. Poor customer service! 6:10PM; soup was served, it was warm at the bottom, cool on top. My daughter asked to heat a half soup at 6:20pm. Two cashiers handled the line. No line at the register 6:45PM. Yes I ate all my food, we paid for it and I don't waste. Was it good, no not at all. For a Honey Walnut Prawns combo you'd think they'd put a little sauce on my rice, nope. The prawns were itty bitty baby shrimp. My moms food left a bad taste in my mouth as well. The place was not clean and the service was slow. Also they were out of more than half of their fountain drinks (none of which were sugar free even, not even water, but you could ask for a bottle of water instead). Listen, I've lived in Pleasant Hill since the late 80s. When I moved here, there was nothing. And in nothing, I mean, no diversity in anything they had. A few Asian groceries would open up, but if we wanted something Filipino, we had to drive to Daly City or Vallejo. Not until the last few years did we have places like Goldilocks, Seafood City, and Chow King. As happy as I am that places like this exist in my part of the world, it's still... ok. The problem is that I grew up with such awesome cooks in the family- my mom and Lola, especially, that these restaurants are just... ok. I like the lumpia here for the main reason that it's so damn time-consuming to make them yourself. I'd rather pay for someone to make them and fry them for me (I've had childhood traumas from being burned by lumpia oil). So if you're looking for the best Filipino food you've ever tasted? Better make friends with some Filipino kids and hope you're invited for their family parties. Otherwise, places like this are good for that quick fix. read more

Oh my. I had been sitting in the car while my Mom ran into Seafood City to get some fish when hunger suddenly struck. So I wandered in looking for something to eat. This was the first place I saw and the pictures looked promising, so I thought why not. I ordered the orange chicken. About the only thing I could stomach was the rice! The lumpia and orange chicken were intensely gingery! The noodles had no flavor. The one star is for the cashier who was very friendly, but otherwise, I would not recommend this place for the food.
