This is probably the best Chinese restaurant in the area, or at least it's our #1 favorite. The one thing that really stands out the most to us is their Sichuan Beef Stew Noodle Soup, which I've praised so many times in my previous reviews so I'm not gonna repeat myself so that I don't sound like a broken record, but it's just so good! Another thing we ordered when we visited this restaurant yesterday was the Sichuan Cumin Beef. I honestly forgot how much we liked this dish. The way they cooked it yesterday was incredible. Every bite was packed with flavor (savory, very cumin-y and spicy!) , and even the veggies were fully infused with it. It went perfectly with steamed rice. I want to give a warning though, because this dish was extremely spicy, which I personally loved. I liked it so much that I ended up ordering another one to go so I could keep eating it at home over the next few days, lol. I also want to give a shout out to the guy who was basically single-handedly running the restaurant yesterday. He saw us walk in carrying a car seat and offered us a high chair, but he flipped it upside down so we could safely place the car seat on it. Such a simple back but genius. On top of that, he was super friendly the entire time. The restaurant was pretty empty, which is pretty normal for this restaurant whenever we visit it, although they seem to get a lot of takeout orders - happy for them. The empty restaurant actually worked out perfectly for us since we had a baby with us, haha. I was craving SIchuan Chinese food as it was not readily available in VA. My wife discovered this near our favorite movie theater so we dropped in for lunch and I thrilled we did. One of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. It's a pretty authentic Chinese joint and they actually don't do American Chinese food that well. One exception to that is the Walnut Shrimp, which is probably the best I've had in any restaurant Chines or otherwise. The Sesame Chicken is not bad either. There are some other standout dishes. One is the String Beans. Most places just stir fry the string beans, but the right way to cook it is actually to fry it first so it has a slightly crispy outer and process also dries out the string beans a bit. This place is probably the only one in the area who does it correctly. Another standout dish is the pork shoulder. This is a Chinese staple and this place does it right. The meat is tender, the fat is well rendered, and it's flavored perfectly. That's a dish I get every time. IMO Szechuan Garden is the only Chinese restaurant in the area that comes close. Others like Ming's or 3 Brothers are very mediocre. Szechuan Garden has better variety and consistency across the menu, and they're also very authentic, but they lack the absolutely standout dishes that Sichuan Fortune House has. read more

The food earns 4 stars, but the service was a 2. We visited on a weekend and there was only one server, Rambo, working the entire floor. While he was working incredibly hard, it's unfair to both the staff and the customers to have a "one-man show" during dinner rush. We waited 30 minutes for drinks and a full hour for food--which is nearly impossible when you have a hungry toddler with you. We ordered a non-spicy dish (lotus root) for our toddler, but it arrived spicy anyway. Since we couldn't wait another hour for a remake, she ended up just eating white rice. To top it off, our beef tripe and blood in hot pot broth dish arrived without the blood. When we finally flagged Rambo down, he explained they intentionally exclude it because some customers find it "smelly." As a Chinese customer who specifically ordered the dish for the blood, I found this frustrating and deceptive. If an ingredient is being removed from a titled dish, guests must be notified upfront. We enjoyed the flavors of the spicy tan tan noodles, lotus root, black pepper lamb, and ma-po tofu, but the management needs to hire more weekend staff. We'll stick to takeout from now on. read more

We were celebrating my friend's birthday and she decided she wanted to give this place a try. I honestly never noticed this restaurant before, since it is off the Main Street, but I am always down to try our new places. There is ample seating inside, and we were sat towards the back in a secluded area. The waitress that day looked to be an older lady and she was running the entire store in terms of waiting. Vegetable Fried Rice: Pretty simple and straightforward. Ample amount to share between 5 of us. The vegetables and rice were cooked nicely. Cumin Lamb: This has such an overwhelming aroma of the cumin spice. This was not subtle at all, and if you like cumin, this is the dish for you. The lamb meat was cooked thoroughly and I enjoyed the flavors overall, but I found it a bit too strong and aromatic for me. Shredded pork in garlic sauce: My favorite dish that we ordered. The pork was cooked well and the sauce was delicious. I always enjoy this dish when I go out to eat and this place did it justice. Shredded Potato Spicy: This was a rather interesting dish. Just shredded potatoes. We asked for spicy, and I honestly couldn't tell you if it was spicy or not. It was subtle. I honestly wished we tried the sour and spicy version now, since I honestly didn't find anything too special about it. Overall, I had a great time with my friends trying this place out. Man!! Such delicious food. And the owner is so nice and sweet (small lady with a bob) I would highly recommend the ChongQing fried chicken - so freaking good. The spice... the crunch... the garlic.... Yum. The honey walnut prawns are probably the best I've had in a long time. The pickled boiled fish is such a great palette cleanser - especially with all the rich flavors. Pea sprouts with garlic is always good. I hope they get more business! Went out for lunch with 3/10/24 Sichuan is located in a quiet area. Outside, no wannabe macho men making vehicular racket. Inside, no misbehaving parents training their children to be noisy neighbors. My not so clean daughter had Some Nerve to complain about smudge in her teacup. The waiter explained that "the cups are clay and the tea stain is impossible to remove". I'm thinking of calling it tea patina maybe? The service and presentation was Fine, Almost Everything tasted delicious. That interesting Szechuan spice yummy umm. Moist pork shoulder with crunchy and chewy skin oh yes.. Lip numbing tofu squares pressing sweetly on my tongue! Save me! Take me back for more! Ok I'm getting carried away but it was a very good meal and worth 60 miles on the odometer. Almost all the dishes were perfect. The only complaints? The potsticker wrapper was a bit chewy. I love SzeChuan style. Recently there are couple different similar ones open in Concord/Pleasant Hill area. After searching Yelp, I noticed that there is another one in Pleasant Hill that I have never tried before. This is the one. I pick the time when they just opened for the business. You can tell this is not a new establishment (later learn that they have been in business for 20? Years) but they keep it pretty clean, which I prefer to be a clean environment. All the different dishes that we order are awesome, I like everything. The price and the portion they provide is just right I think. Staff is willing to give us room to think and leave us alone. For a small business like this, they earn 5 starts in my opinion and I will definitely try it again. read more

I haven't been here in over 8 yrs. Cousins invited us to dinner. They're regulars here. Service was cool. We had the seafood soup, Sichuan spicy crispy chicken, sautéed green pea sprouts, and a braised tofu beef stew clay pot dish and rice. The food was salty, but not overwhelmingly. The rice was not fresh. But all the dishes were really good and the best part was the company of course. Came to pick up some To-go and met the owner. I'm guessing she is. Really nice young lady. Great customer service. Did you know they open 7 days a week 365 days a year! They'll be open for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's! I have to respect the hustle. So I'm giving them 5 stars! We ordered the Chong Qing Style boneless Chicken, and the Beef stew clay pot with tofu. Both are really good and the pickled cabbage that looks like kimchi is delish too. The beef was super crispy yet the meat inside wasn't tough. It was a tad sweet & very spicy. But we love it! - Spicy shredded potato: good. Potato was soft yet still had some crunch. Not too salty & good amount of spice. - Prawn with honey glazed walnut: super good! The prawn pieces were big & cooked perfectly. The honey glazed sauce was good - not too sweet & just enough sauce. The food here is good. I especially like that they use high-quality jasmine rice. Many Chinese restaurants use cheap rice and you can tell the difference. I got the Mongolian chicken. It's a bit bland compared to some of the places I go to. Yet, it was still good. I would definitely like to come here and have a sitdown dinner. That way I can try a few of the different dishes. I came here with my parents and the food is very authentic Chinese. My parents loved the pork rib soup. Pork was tender and the soup was very tasty. The shrimp was very crispy and spicy . Overall good except not spicy! It's not Sichuan if it's not spicy. Read on. I ordered the crispy fried tofu. This is one of my favorite dishes from any Sichuan place. Normally it should come with fried tofu, red chili and Chinese pepper (the one that makes your tongue numb) and jalapeños. The spice actually due to jalapeños and mostly the Chinese peppers. I had this dishes in many forms from various places over US, but it always comes with (1) tofu (2) Chinese peppers. This one comes with fried tofu and red chilis! So not spicy at all, I was craving for Sichuan food and the signature of Sichuan dishes is their chili spice. Anyway coming to positive the tofu is very firm and crispy. Really amazing tofu. 4 stars for the amazing crispy tofu. I will definitely reorder when I don't crave Sichuan but crispy tofu. My kudos to chef, just fry some Chinese peppers in the same oil and the dish is golden. You already overcame the hardest part, making crispy tofu that is firm inside! read more

Sichuan Fortune House is off a Main Street in pleasant hill with its own parking lot as well as street parking. Inside has a good amount of seating and the tables are nicely spaced out. Staff is so friendly and sweet and always remembers their regulars. For the vegans out there, they confirmed that everything on their menu under "Delightful Vegetables" is vegan (no fish sauce, oyster sauce, pork broth, etc. which is common in a lot of Chinese dishes). I've been to all the local spots Ming's, 3Brothers, Chef Choy,Dragon Springs, China Chef, Yans, Uncle Yu's all of they are all decent and have there own specialties but SICHUAN FORTUNE HOUSE for the win!!! My 2 sons love this place so we visit at least once a month. Since Covid, they have not been as busy which is typical of many places since 2020. No matter what, the food is tasty, fresh, creative and we always discover something new when we come. So if you are thinking about trying Sichuan, please give this place a try!
