I have seen reviews about this place and I honestly wanted to try it myself. Having the day off, I decided to finally give it a try. I arrived around 12 pm today and a bunch of entrees were not ready yet. They had about 7 or so entrees good to go, but I was waiting for the Mongolian Beef. The lady who serviced me was nice and made small talk with me while the kitchen was finishing the dish. Mongolian Beef: What I waited for and it was just ok. Not used to having bell peppers in my Mongolian Beef, but it was still good. A bit salty for me for this dish and I wish the spiciness was turned up a notch. Broccoli Beef: This one was also salty for my liking. The texture of the beef was good though and I enjoyed the amount of broccoli I did get in my plate. Sesame Chicken: The best of the trio I got. Was perfectly fried and sauced, not being too salty or bland. I can see why this one can be a popular item choice with how fresh and crispy it tasted. My number one choice here. Overall, it was alright. For the amount I paid, I can get two servings out of it, so a nice lunch and dinner for me. I probably would come back again. read more

After seeing all the claims that this place is better than Panda Express and other fast food Chinese joints, I had to come check it out for myself. My first impression when I pulled up: parking is limited and it sits on a narrow path lined up with other businesses. But you can't miss it! The place was clean, and the staff greeted us as soon as we walked in. They have a few tables if you want to dine in too. I was a little surprised that a two-item plate was about $11 (not bad) and that's 2 items + your choice of rice or chow mein. Looking at the food options, nothing really grabbed my attention except the salt and pepper fried fish and the Mongolian beef-- my usual go-tos at other places. But I decided to switch it up and try the mushroom chicken instead. I ended up getting half rice, half chow mein, the salt and pepper fish, and the mushroom chicken. My opinion: The mushroom chicken wasn't mushroomin' at all. It tasted bland and for a second I thought I was getting sick because I couldn't taste anything. I'm a huge fan of mushrooms and I observed only one. I was disappointed. The salt and pepper fish was ok. The chili oil made it tastier. My partner ordered the BBQ pork and orange chicken. I tried both, and the BBQ pork was a little dry, and honestly I prefer Panda Express's orange chicken--but it was still good overall. The rice and chow mein tasted good however, it was overpowered by all the veggies. Less would've been better. I'm really bummed out that I couldn't give this place 5 stars. The service was great, but the food just didn't meet my expectations. My rating is based on the price, portion size, and service, but honestly, the food just lacked flavor. Maybe we'll come back and try the other dishes. But for now, it's a solid 4. read more

Wok Express is a new Chinese eatery in the Four Corners area in Concord. They occupy the space left vacant by 1800 Cafe, next to Sushi Momoyama. They recently came to my attention when my brother saw them on a FB food page. I was in the neighborhood on 11/09/2025 and decided to give them a try. It was quiet when I walked a little after 4pm. I was immediately greeted by one of the owners, Minna. The interior was nicely refurbished and clean. Their neon light logo and prosperity figures on top on the steam table caught my attention. My original plan was to order the large family meal, but the portion size made me decide to get several dishes a la carte instead. I ordered broccoli beef, dry fried boneless ribs, and string bean chicken. The total, including tax, was near $50. The a la carte dishes were made to order, and I was very pleased with both the quality and quantity. A copious amount of chopped garlic was used in the two stir-fried dishes, which made them more aromatic and tastier. The dry fried boneless ribs dish was really good. The pieces were meaty and had a nice crunchy exterior. The seasoning had a slight spicy kick to it. I got a chance to chat with Minna, her husband, and the chef. They are all Cantonese restaurant veterans. Nina told me she and her husband used to own an eatery in Berkeley. For a takeout joint, they are solid based on what I ordered. The food exceeded my expectations on both quality and quantity. If you decide to visit, I highly recommend ordering a la carte. Well worth the extra few bucks. I will return. 4 stars. This place just opened the first week of November. It is right next to Sushi Momoyama/where old 1800 Cafe was. There's plenty of parking in the back of the alley. Service was quick and simple. The lady was very friendly and helpful as well. The place inside and the food station was super clean. It is a bit small too but there are a few 4-top booths to sit and dine in as needed. I ordered the 3 item combo - $12.89. Total came out to $14.15. I got half fried rice and half chow mein (noodles) with sweet n sour pork, teriyaki chicken and salt n pepper fried fish. I would recommend getting the chow mein and sweet n sour pork or chicken. The chow mein (noodles) wasn't too oily and there was the subtle wok hei imparted to the item. The sweet n sour pork is also good and it was big chunks of meat. It was not like some other places with fillers and filled with half batter. Salt n Pepper Fish was crunchy and good too. Just wished I had more. I was also hoping to get their green beans but they didn't have them today. Honestly, it is best to go with the 2 item combo ($10.89) as that is more bang for your buck deal. This place is decent especially for the price point and cheap eats. I recently purchased a Too Good To Go surprise bag from Wok Express. They gave me a narrow time window (8:30 pm- 8:45 pm) for me to pick up my food. Too Good To Go notified me around 8:00 pm that the bag was being prepared. I then accommodated Wok Express's schedule and drove to Wok Express (arriving at their parking lot around 8:30 pm) only to be notified (via the Too Good To Go App) that they ran out of food and canceled my order. While I did get a refund, this does not compensate me for my time and expense (gas is expensive) to get there. While I understand supply and demand varies from day to day, this is ridiculous with respect to their ill-timed cancellation. If I had more timely notice, I would be able to make other dinner arrangements. Instead, I opted for the nearby McDonald's where they do not run out of food. I did complain to Too Good To Go and they could only provide me a refund. I received no direct apology from Wok Express. Wok Express should not be using Too Good to Go if this is a recurring problem and they cannot satisfy orders. I am highly dissatisfied with Wok Express's handling of my order and will no longer use them as a dining option. read more

Came on a Saturday about 5:45pm and I was a bit disappointed. There was not alot of food out to choose from as many were gone or had a spoonful left. I chose my 2 items and they were okay. Maybe I came at a bad time? The price is good but portion size was ok. Friendly service. The parking was a bit nuts as people were parked in red zones and hard to get in and out. We came around 11:00am, the fish and the shrimp dish were not available yet. They told us will be available in 10 minutes. We came back later for it and it was ready. The price is very reasonable. Yay for a new Chinese restaurant in the area! We came on a Monday afternoon and the parking lot had plenty of parking. The restaurant is spacious and clean, I love the neon sign looks against the interior. So here's how you can order, they have an express section where you can order food from what is out on the counter, we did a plate from here. We love that you can do half rice and half chow mein. The bbq pork is really flavorful and will be ordering again. We also ordered from their Made To Order section, items from here take time to make. We got the hot and sour and it took 10 minutes. This soup was so good, it was hot and spicy and really flavorful. Overall we loved everything we got, it had good flavor and the staff were super kind, checking in on us and others in the restaurant constantly. Definitely recommend checking it out. read more

Another one for the win! Second time here & it was Amazing!!! Got three-item plates for my son, my husband, and myself, and everything was incredible. I love how chubby and perfectly chewy the noodles are! Son & I went with all chow mein since I'm not a big rice eater, but I did try a bite of hubby's rice and was pleasantly surprised--super garlicky and delicious! This place is NOTHING like Panda. It's authentic, and the food is constantly coming out fresh. The garlic chicken was amazing, the BBQ pork was tender and sweet, and the salt & pepper wings and fish were absolute fire--crispy, flavorful, and addicting! Son also tried the orange chicken & sweet sticky fried ribs. The restaurant is super clean, service is quick and the owners are just adorable. I didn't realize that there's a new Chinese food place in the area! I went around 7 PM and it was pretty quiet inside, but the staff were super friendly. There's a ton of options to choose from, with the style feeling pretty similar to what you'd see at Panda Express, but with a bit more variety. I got the three-plate combo with chow mein, teriyaki chicken, sweet & sour pork, and BBQ short ribs. I thought the chow mein was great with super thick and chewy noodles and a good amount of crunchy veggies mixed in. The teriyaki chicken was also very tasty--the sauce wasn't too sweet and still had a bit of tang. The sweet & sour pork was okay, just not too much flavor in it. It was mostly sweet and pretty one-note. I liked the sauce on the BBQ short ribs, but I just don't think that dish is for me. I wanted to try something out of my comfort zone (I've never had short ribs), but I wasn't a big fan of how fatty they are--though that's just how short ribs are. You might love them! Overall, I think this is a pretty decent spot. I really want to come back and try a few different items. I'd also like to come by when they're a bit busier--the food could have been a bit warmer, which might improve during peak hours. Stopped by Wok Express and had a great experience. It did not disappoint!!! I tried the Szechuan fish and the garlic chicken both were really flavorful and cooked well. The Szechuan fish was full of flavor without being overwhelming, and the garlic chicken was savory and satisfying. I love the selection they have a lot of options to choose from, so it's easy to mix and match dishes. Definitely a solid spot if you're craving Chinese food and want plenty of choices. read more

Came at 8 pm on Sunday evening and they were maybe about to close. We decided to order a la carte entrees to go since the lady who I assume to be the chef's wife said the chef could still make us fresh entrees. We got the spicy garlic fish and BBQ pork fried rice and it tasted just like restaurant quality. When we got home we could still taste the "wok hay". Portion size is also good when you order a la carte. While we were waiting the chef's wife served us hot tea in a cold night; that was really nice. 4% credit card fee so bring cash! They were very pleasant, and happy to make a special dish for one member of the party. Came here for the first time after searching for a new Chinese place to be a regular at. This is the place. My partner got the chow mein, fried rice, orange chicken and broccoli beef. I was going to get the same plate but after letting them know it was our first time, the woman sweetly recommended the sesame chicken and spicy garlic chicken, and even threw in a couple pieces of bbq pork for us to try!
