Chow King you should pay attention to YELP reviews. People are trying to help you stay in business. I actually would put no stars if I could. Here is my adventure on 5/17/2012 7 pm cost was $17.99 My wife and I ordered the beef wonton soup......very bad/salty and noodles worst that cup noodle soup that you can for .59 cents. I had the fried pork chops....it was fried probably by the microwave. Tasted old, burnt and rubbery. ( 2 days ago it was good..) The reason I am writing a review is that I am sick and tired of eating here. Yes, sometimes you get lucky and you get ok meal....to good meal. However, it is never CONSISTENT. Why would you have a restaurant that would sell uncooked or overcooked, over microwaved, greased over filipino food. We are Filipino's we will know how good or bad our food will taste. Suggestion to Chow King. Why don't you do a "taste test" to your employees before you serve it the to public. This is called "caring for your people." Didn't see all the bad reviews till now. I usually go to Vallejo and only sometimes have issues on wait times. Yesterday I came in spur of the moment and ordered 2 pieces of chicken w/ mushroom gravy. It was good, service was fast. The only thing that erked me was the manager mopping an already clean floor while I was eating. I absolutely hate that crap. Had that craving for some Chowking noodle soup on a unusually cold'ish weather. I had Beef Wonton soup and my wife had Beef Soup. The soups were good, beef had flavor and there is no need of seasoning. We also had Asado Siopao and it was alright. YUMMY Halo-Halo! Sweet, creamy with a lot of ube! My favorite! I can't imagine what the King size is like because the regular is plenty! I also got 2 pc crispy chicken. A drumstick (my favorite) was nice and big. Tasty, not too oily and very crunchy fresh! The other piece I think was breast - but I think they cut it in hald so I got the boney part! There was barely any meat on there - not cool. Service... Well, the manager was a dick. If it wasn't for my wife's craving for Tilapia I would not have come here! The wait was horrendously long (more than 30 minutes AFTER I ordered) for a fast food joint. The picture on the counter of the meal I ordered looked like some tempting fried chicken with drumsticks and thigh pieces served with rice and pancit noodles. What I got looked more like two tiny drumsticks that could have been the other half of a wing and a chicken nugget in lieu of the thigh. What the h@!! I didn't realize until after we got home and I opened up the box, otherwise I would have made a stink about it at the restaurant. The size of the portions was tiny, are chickens sold in Filipino fast food restaurants smaller than their American counterparts? I am Filipino and it's just an observation I have noticed. I went in with an open attitude. I mean there were a bunch of older Filipino in there eating...it couldn't be all that bad, right? WRONG! Maybe my tastes are Americanized but this food was poo-poo! It is rare for me to find a place where the food really stinks to the point where I won't eat it. I have been to places where the food wasn't that good but I ate it anyways. My brother and I were looking for a place to eat and we ended up here. It was our first time eating at this location and it wasn't too pleasant. It was a little before 5 when we arrived - no lines. We placed our order: 1 Palabok ($3.99), 1 Teriyaki Chicken with rice and pancit ($5.99), 1 Calamansi drink ($1.99?) and 1 Buko Pandan shake ($3.99?) + tax, totaled to about $18-19. We waited well over 20 minutes and I was surprised on how small the portions were. For prices like that.. Are you serious? On top of that, the quality of the food was horrible. I overlooked my brother's food (palabok) which was served in a half plate. It was filled about a quarter way and most of it consisted of the sauce. Apparently they use a different type of noodle for their palabok because the noodles were way too thin. It's not really a big deal, I just prefer the traditional noodles for palabok. In terms of taste, (as my brother commented) - "It wasn't that great." As for me, my rice plate was probably the biggest disappointment out of everything we ordered. First of all, there was hair (eyelash?) on my rice. Second - the teriyaki sauce was too sweet. Third - the pancit was dry. The only thing that I liked about it was the rice (wow) - minus the eyelash - just because it was nice and soft. Both of our drinks were way too sweet - like we were drinking a cup of water with a pound of sugar. Not even the ice would dilute the sweetness.. Okay, so if a) you're obligated to follow someone of a more superior status than you to a particular place where said person wishes to eat lunch; and b) said person of superior status than you is paying for the meal; and c) you're about ten minutes away from a round of nasty hypoglycemic jitters then eat here. I can't explain how disappointed I am in this place. That is saying a lot since my hopes weren't that high anyways. The spring rolls are literally the size of my pinky with no taste at all, the chow mein I couldn't even stomach down and everything else taste like freezer burn. Service at this particular chowking location was really bad. We ordered a congee only to find out after we paid that they didn't have it. There was no apology nor a customer satisfaction. A simple sorry would've made a big difference, we're not even trying to get anything for free but the way they handled the situation is really disappointing. The Halo-Halo taste really good here and they put a big scoop of ube. I like their Halo-Halo better than Jolibees because Jolibee puts sometimes stale tasting rice krispies. Okay, I know i am a little late, but I wanted to write 1 1/2 review for 2 visits I made recently. I was craving a a little Filipino food and I was short on time. I went in to the Chow King for a quick takeout. I ordered a Pork bun and some Sweet Spaghetti with a Classic Tahot (since they were out of Buko Pandan). I was surprised by the price of $9.33 for just the 3 items. I also did not like the fact that all the people were staring at me when I was waiting and I believe that has something to do with people assuming I am Filipino. ( Vietnamese is my heritage, in case you are wondering) The 2nd visit was not a pleasant experience, either. I went to Seafood City find those snacks where you dip your crackers, (Yan Yan I think is the name), and no one would help me. I decided to get a Buko Pandan and thought it would be quick. The people in front of me took their sweet time ordering, and I stood patiently because the Cashier seemed to be new and was training with his Supervisor. After I ordered my drink, it took them literally 12 minutes to get it to me. The food runner was a little slow and took her at least 2 minutes to make a Tahot and an Ube shake. I kept giving them clues like looking at my watch and even placed the receipt on the counter. Finally at the 10th min. I asked politely if I can get my drink. The place was a little busy but there is no excuse for a Buko to take no more than 3 minutes. The Food on both visits were good, but I will not make it a habit to wait and pay hefty prices for food I can get easily at 99 Ranch with better service. read more

After reading so many 1-star reviews, I was wary about going to Chowking today but decided to give them a shot since I didn't feel like being in crowded Jollibee. Though I can totally see what people have been talking about, I still think they deserve 2-stars for a bit of improvement. PROS: Ummm..... *deep breath, raised quizzical eyebrow searching for something to say*....... No lines or crowds. Got immediate service when I first popped in..even though I was rudely rebuffed by the guy in the manager's uniform when I told him I was still looking at the menu. And the food is not completely inedible or disgusting. CONS: (and here we go) - DIRTY, STICKY TABLES. When I arrived, the place was virtually empty and some staff were just standing around. So it doesn't make sense that when I had to choose a table to sit at, the cleanest of my options was the one in the corner with two coaster-sized globs of lomi soup on one-side of the table. - LARGELY UNFRIENDLY and RUDE STAFF. Though it was nice that a manager got behind a register when he saw me walk in, it was completely rude that he snickered and rolled his eyes when I politely said, "Oh, sorry. I need another minute. I'm still looking at the menu." It's not like I got in front of a register and was causing a raucus to get someone's attention to take my order. And even if I did, wouldn't the naturally courteous response be, "No problem, Ma'am. Just let me know when you're ready." 2nd example, the guy who did take my order was just nice enough... but clearly was annoyed with having to divide his attention from a simultaneous conversation with a co-worker about his car. He also failed to tell me that they're running a special where you get a free shake with an order of a lomi, soup or almuchow. I paid for my lomi and shake only to discover way later on that the shake shoulda been free.... In the end, it's not a big thing since I was ready to pay for that shake. But little things like that are what make you not mind paying steep prices and consider bringing your business back. SUB-PAR FOOD: Again, it wasn't completely gross. But in comparison to the Vallejo Chowking, it's definitely inferior. The bar isn't set very high because it's fast-food. But still, man, have some freakin' pride in your establishment. All in all, this location isn't entirely unsalvageable... but it needs a lot of work... and new workers!!! People with a sense of work ethic and pride... or just people who care about keeping the place in business so they have somewhere to collect a paycheck til they find a more gratifying workplace. I live by Ranch 99 in Richmond. And I saw the Goldilocks there shut down, not necessarily by high prices and bad food (though both were true), but because of AWFUL customer service. People work a lot harder for their money nowadays and, if you want your business to thrive, you should make sure they feel good about parting with it. read more

The fried chicken is the star in this chinese/filipino eatery! But its only if you like dark meat, since that is the only pieces they serve. Very crispy and tasty. I also like their taro drinks. Very refreshing and hits the spot if you are craving a different type of slushy. The other items on the menu are ok, but I'll stick with the chicken. Better than KFC in my opinion.
