Got the halo halo from here (to go) and hit the spot! So delicious with ube ice cream though I wasn't crazy about the pearls in it. Still was a great dessert option I was craving.

We came here for the steamed bun...the receipt said it's the asada siopao. their banners outside peeked hubby's attention. We just got 1 to taste b/c we were at Jollibee :) and the size was pretty good. It came with a packet of sauce, not sure what the name was but it was like a thick smokey hoisan or soy sauce. The meat was pretty good and flavorful. They told them as singles of a pack of 6.

Combo entree with salt and pepper pork

Not the best, not the worst. Price point is good but the food quality is just okay. I got the combo silog (breakfast) with tocino and longanisa. The longanisa was a no for me. Not juicy, not sweet, and it just tasted like kielbasa to me. The tocino was pretty good though, fatty enough and fairly tender, with a good sweetness. It comes with some garlic rice, which was pretty good, and a hella overcooked egg -_- They offered some vinegar on the side, which paired well with the tocino. For about $11, this wasn't the worst breakfast but I'd just stick with tocino next time. My BD got the combo plate with salt and pepper pork, and the default fried chicken it comes with. You can opt for mild or spicy so that's cool, and they have several entree to pair with (sweet and sour pork, popcorn chicken, broccoli beef, etc). This comes with a scoop of pancit and steamed rice and 1 little sesame ball. The S&P pork was just too battered for me, and the fried chicken was a bit over fried as well. The chicken thigh was juicy with super crunchy skin, went great with the vinegar dip, but the drumstick was hella dry. Add on a soda for about 50 cents. We got a side order of popcorn chicken and my daughter loved it. TBH we would come back, just for that. They do have a spicy option so I'd like to try it but I didn't love that this comes with zero dipping sauces.. some sweet chili sauce would be nice. This is a no frills spot to grab some food. Portions are good, and it's affordable. Slight wait, but nothing crazy, so you can get your day going within a reasonable amount of time. This is right across from Jollibee inside the Seafood City.

Chinese-style Fried Chicken Small Platter

Choking Restaurant offers great value breakfast meals! The food is tasty, portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. A nice spot to start your morning with a satisfying meal.

Pancit Canton Small Platter (serves 3-4)

We decided to try their Bundle Feast 3 due to their 2024 Labor Day promotion/deal ($5 off). The feast comes with 24 pieces of Siomai and 1 Small Pancit Canton Platter. This is advertised to serves 4-6 people, and I would have to say that estimate is pretty accurate. The Siomai was tasty but more on a smaller side, and it had a prominent white-pepper flavor which I really liked. The pancit reminded me of Indonesian-style fried noodles even down to the toppings - cabbage, eggs, and sliced fishballs. It was tasty but I wasn't sure of I liked it just because it was a similar taste to what I grew up with in Indonesia. But I would say the noodles were a tad overcooked and thus were a bit too soft for my preference. Staff were super nice and friendly when I picked up my order at the store. And ordering online through their app was pretty painless.

We've been here several times because food is good and for the price is even better,we love the siopao and beef wonton, the soup is generous and is consistent in taste whenever we come and buy it.Service is fast and ambiance is good, they have their own clean restroom.

The service is not friendly. They also refuse to fix their bathrooms so you have to jump through hoops to find the bathroom somewhere in the grocery. The workers are stingy on the napkins, sauce, and utensils. It's the summer but they also don't have ice. and to add on top, the young cashier is constantly scratching her scalp in front of the customer. It was disgusting.

Silken tofu with warm brown sugar syrup and boba pearls
Mille C.

Ugh. So excited in the beginning. Trying to eat "healthier" so when I tried Chowking's take on a tofu dessert, I was looking forward to a guilt-free dessert. Taho is silken tofu with a brown sugar syrup and boba (aka tapioca) pearls. First, the good. It was a generous portion. I think it was in a 16 oz. deli container. Also, it was served nice and warm. But now, the not so good. The syrup was watery. The tofu tasted chalky and the boba pearls were overcooked and too soft. Now I don't know if the quality suffered because it was 5:00 pm on a Thursday and the ingredients for the dish had sat out all day. I may try again on a Saturday during lunch when there is more turnover.

I've heard of Yi Ji Chang Fen but only tried it today. I've eaten so much dim sum in my lifetime, so my standard for dim sum may be higher. We came around 5PM on a Saturday and there wasn't anyone really there. It could be because dim sum feels more like a morning or lunch thing, or it could just be because we were there for a very early dinner. Between our party, we shared: - Marinated Chicken and Mushroom Rice Roll - Stuffed Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf - Steamed Chicken Feet w/ Black Bean Sauce - Black Gold Egg Custard Buns - Chicken Feet with Herbs - Dry Style Beef Chow Fun And one Honey Lemon Tea for me. The honey lemon tea was a comfort for the cold day. Maybe a bit too much honey, but still good for the throat during the dry season. The chow fun came first and surprisingly it was not bad. There was a bit of 'wok hey' there and it stands out as one of the better dishes we had. As for the rice roll - I wanted to try something less conventional and I've never seen chicken in rice rolls, so I thought it would be interesting to try. It was quite disappointing though. Their rice roll was bigger than normal in width so with rice rolls being a struggle to pick up already, the bigger size made it an even bigger struggle. Everything just slipped out of the rice roll and it wasn't evenly wrapped. There were some bunched up layers on the edges. I think the chicken just didn't pair that well either and it was lacking in ingredients. Maybe the more conventional rice rolls would be better. For the two types of chicken feet, I normally like the one in herbal soup. If made well, the chicken feet has a nice flavor to it. For Yi Fen's herbal chicken feet, their portion was pretty good, but flavor was less prominent. I enjoyed the chicken feet in black bean sauce more because the flavor was better. Lastly, for the stuffed sticky rice and black gold egg custard buns, I suspect that these are not made in-house, but rather store-bought. The sticky rice lacked ingredients and the rice was a little harder than if made fresh. And the perfectly shaped black buns with a golden brush stroke on top (which I've seen all over the internet) seemed too elevated-looking compared to everything else. I'm not the biggest fan of molten lava buns, but they came out nicely. I didn't have any, but the molten lava custard was pretty runny. All in all, an okay experience. Service was a bit lacking. I don't recommend the dim sum dishes, but if I happen to want congee, I may give this place another go. Apart from the dim sum and rice rolls, the noodles I glimpsed from other customers looked not bad. I wonder if other locations are better.

I learned they offer two versions: a "savory dry stir fry" and a "spicy dry stir fry". Both looked fairly spicy, but the staff explained that the savory one is milder and has a slightly sweeter flavor. I decided to go with that. It turned out to be delicious. The sauce was perfectly balanced, savory without being too sweet, with a subtle peanut flavor. It was still spicy in my opinion, especially since there was a noticeable dollop of chili oil on top, but it paired really well with steamed rice and I love spicy food. Unfortunately, the rice itself was not great. The top layer was hard and crunchy, like the overcooked bits you sometimes get at the bottom of a rice cooker. Aside from that, the meal was very satisfying. I also really enjoy their sauce bar, where you can mix your own condiments to complement the dish. Next time, I would definitely like to try the "spicy dry stir fry" version.
