What a great find! The diner itself is cozy, charming, and super cute, with a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. We ordered the hamburger with bacon, calamari basket, and brioche French toast, and every single dish was exceptionally good. The burger was flavorful and cooked perfectly, the calamari was crispy and delicious, and the brioche French toast was absolutely amazing. My partner and I have come here a few times already throughout the year and we are always happy with the food we are served. They have some outdoor seating near the entrance. This is a perfect Jersey diner with a slightly more upscale feel that has certainly earned its stars. The menu is comprehensive, but not too big, and there are some unique left turns (see below) that I'm glad we tried. We went for brunch and had omelets with sourdough toast and crispy potatoes, with the mandatory bottomless coffee, alongside table pancakes (we did blueberry) that I was very happy with. The standout was the Chaufa and Eggs. I didn't order it myself, but it was big enough that I managed to steal a few bites, and it was insane. Perfect fried rice with chicken, eggs, and two runny eggs on top -- total protein and flavor. If Guy Fieri was here he'd be eating it off a flip flop. We'll definitely be back for brunch, lunch, or the diner classic "anymeal". In addition to the tables, you can sit at the counter which reminds me of the soda fountains I used to go to when I was a teenager. They were showing an Abbott and Costello movie with subtitles. I was able to call an hour or so in advance for a large group for Sunday brunch, which I thought they would not accept, but they graciously accommodated. To be expected, they were very busy and the service suffered both because of our large group and the busy dining room. It took a while to get coffees, waters, and juices for our group when we first sat down and a little bit longer to get our orders in. Then, most of the party had received their meals except for two or three, who didn't receive their meals until everyone else was finishing theirs. Very unfortunate. The menu offerings are not your typical greasy spoon diner options with a whole separate menu of specials, elaborate preparations of pancakes/waffles/french toast, omelettes with different fillings/toppings and beverages beyond just your typical hot coffee. Would definitely come back with a smaller group for a more intimate breakfast and try the specials for that day. read more

Great dinette with consistently delicious food! The prices are reasonable especially considering the generous portion sizes. Every meal is served promptly and hot. The only downside is that drink refills are not complementary and there is an additional charge that isn't mentioned ahead of time. It would be nice if staff let customers know about any up charging before adding a drink or bringing additional gravy, etc. Overall, it's still a great place to enjoy a delicious meal at a fair price and I definitely recommend it. read more

This place is a real gem, that I am so thrilled to have in my town of Nutley! The decor is very appealing, with a lot of nice, comfortable seating. We went for dinner, and it was not crowded. I think people are sleeping on this place for dinner, because it is most well known for breakfast. BYOB which is a big plus. We both ordered from the Specials Menu. I had the Seafood Paella, and my husband ordered the Rib Eye Steak. Both came with a choice of soup or salad. I had a very delicious Chicken Avgolemono soup, and my husband had a very nice salad with fresh vegetables. Both entrees were very large portions. You will get your money's worth! My Paella was brimming with tender calamari, plump shrimp, mussels, and clams. It was delicious! The Rib Eye Steak had a delectable Mushroom Sauce and was served with a mound of mashed potatoes and julienne vegetables. Also a winner! We shared a dessert of Blueberry Banana Bread Pudding. OMG! This was outrageous! Served warm, with ice cream and whipped cream, it was a show stopper. They even brewed a fresh pot of decaf for us! The service was excellent! Julio was an absolute delight! Went in for Valentines Day. Service was decent, the busboy/food runner paid more attention and care to us than the server which shows great team work! The food was phenomenal. The fried brussel sprouts with wasabi ranch sauce were amazing. The chicken vodka parm special was perfect, my partner sang praises of it and said he will return bc of it. The steak frits however, was underwhelming for a NY strip it was very fatty large chunks of fat versus evenly marbelized and it was chewy and tough to bite. We came here to fulfill a desire for some French toast and boy did Chris and Angie's come through! We ordered both the Texas toast French toast and a baguette French toast. Both were prepared to perfection. Eggs we ordered on the side were both cooked exactly as requested and the bacon was on point. Topping it all off was the service. Our server, Julio, was an absolute gem. He ran around ensuring everyone in his seating area was attended to. He pre bussed all the tables discreetly to only interrupt the conversations. Our coffee cups were never less than half full. The icing on the cake was his personality. He was so engaging and made small talk that left us with a smile. We dove in and I never took pics of what we were served, a shame, as it was so nicely prepared and looked like it should be on the menu as the sample photo. We thought we found a hidden gem, but unfortunately not. Chicken sandwich was inedible. It was SO hard... legit ROCK HARD. I told the server at the end of our meal, even demonstrating the hardness by banging the chicken on the rim of the plate (imagine the sound frozen chicken would make hitting a plate, no it wasn't frozen, but really over cooked I guess???) Kind of comical, but we tried to keep it lighthearted. What is not so funny is that it was not comped. Seriously ridiculous paying $17 for that? What a cute place! Went for Mother's Day breakfast and it wasn't that busy. Our server Martin was very attentive and gave us everything we needed before we even asked. The food was so worth the money as well! I had a wonderful brunch with my family on a Sunday morning. We were a party of 5 with no reservation (not sure if they take reservations) and did not have to wait for a table. The inside has a mix of retro and modern feel. Everyone started with lattes and cappuccinos and seemed to enjoy them. I had the chicken and waffles and they were some of the best chicken and waffles I've ever had! It came with a chipotle aioli on the side. I personally don't think it goes with the meal; it would be better on a sandwich or a wrap. The chicken was nicely fried and had the bone in it which feels like true chicken and waffles to me. It was covered in a generous amount of hot honey that wasn't overwhelming. A lot of the hot honey did get on my waffle which I wasn't too keen on initially, but it went well with the waffle and I didn't need any syrup because of it. So so delicious, I will definitely come back and have it again. My fiancé had the guava and cheese brioche French toast that was on the specials menu and enjoyed it. The guava creme was mildy sweet and not overpowering. He ordered a side of scrambled cheese egg and bacon and it really rounded out the meal. My inlaws had the sampler breakfast (a little bit of everything) and the shiitake mushroom florentine eggs benedict and holy cow the Benedict was delicious considering it was a veggie dish. The combo of the feta, spinach, and shiitake was absolutely delish and had a wonderful garlicky flavor. We all really enjoyed our meals and can't wait to be back! read more

Love this addition to Nutley! Such a beautiful space - you're instantly transported to Manhattan when you walk in. Gorgeously decorated but still a homey feel. My friend and I went for breakfast and it did not disappoint. The eggs Benedict were delicious, the side salad it was served with was dressed to perfection. My omelette was great too, loaded with mozzarella and tons of fresh ingredients. We also splurged and got the pumpkin pancakes - delicious. Super fluffy with a great pumpkin flavor. They have an eclectic menu - I saw a variation of a green omelette served with hummus and pita and I might just try that next! Our server was absolutely the best too, so friendly. Loving myself an elevated diner! Chris & Angie's is new in Nutley and a very welcome addition, replacing the old Pancake Palace. Spacious and clean looking, friendly staff and excellent food. Definitely a nice new go to brunch spot. I took my kids and they order the peach waffles and pumpkin pancakes, which both I was very happy to try on the side of my French onion burger! I mentioned earlier that it is an elevated diner, which is based on the food, the burger was nice and juicy, not your typical diner patty from the freezer and we could not get enough of the fries which were on par with McDonald's French fries! We were 1 of four tables that our server was managing. Apparently this place gets crowded and our server was acting as if he was managing a full house. He was stressed and short with us. 3. My friends had waffles and I had avocado toast, which came with a side of lettuce. I'm not a big 'salad for breakfast' kind of person. 4. Our server came by once and asked if we wanted more coffee which we did. He topped our cups, then came right back with the check, slapping it down with a "thank you." Look, if the place was crowded or if people were waiting I could understand, but that wasn't the case. It was 8:30 so it was still relatively empty. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I think I'm being generous with my rating. Would I return again, probably not. However, the reviews seem to disagree with me. The service was fast and efficient. The waitress we had worked at the pancake palace as well. Pretty good start because she was a good waitress. I was hoping they would open another restaurant at this location and am pleased that it's the same type of food. The restaurant was clean and they redecorated the inside very nicely. Two eggs scrambled home fries and toast, eggs cooked perfectly and the homefries had just the right amount of "crust" toast was generously buttered not like most other places where they barely touch the bread with butter.
