The people who own this campground and work have done a lot to help my family through a very tough time I deeply appreciate them

AWARENESS: Chris' Campground was our RV destination stop while visiting South Dakota from June 27 through July 6, 2022. NARRATIVE: This years annual RV trip with four other RV friends and family began and ended here at Chris' Camp from June until July of 2022. Located right off the I90 freeway in the town of Spearfish, Chris' Camp turned out to be a great place to stay since its centrally located to everything you may want to see and do in the South Dakota area. The campground is well maintained and has lots of amenities such as; two heated swimming pools, a petting zoo and many grassy shaded areas for kids to play. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful, especially when looking for great place to eat in the area. They were also helpful in pointing out places to have repairs done to one of my fiends truck. SCENE: Located right off the I90 freeway in the town of Spearfish, Chris' Camp turned out to be a great place to stay since its located less than than 15 minutes from Deadwood. 20 minutes from Sturgis. And, an hour from Rapid City and Custer. Three of our rigs lucked out and got pull through spots and one had a back in but, the staff made sure we were all together. The only downside to Chris' Camp would be the roads. Made up from dirt and rock, the frequent rains made traction going uphill in some spots dificult. RECOMMENDATION(S): The friendliness of the staff alone would made me recommend Chris' Camp to everyone. read more

Four days of staying in one of the little cabins. Very rustic and the neighbors were reasonably quiet. Lots of RVs and other campers here. Our room had electricity and lights. Water was handy. The shower house was kept clean and very functional if a little old. 25 cents for a hot water shower. There is a little playground for kids. The drive thru the park has nice asphalt drive so no dust or noisy rock drive. Prices are reasonable, and the location is really good to get into town or drive over to the canyon. The pamphlet they give you is helpful. The wifi was reliable (no streaming allowed). Our beds were firm but the high vinyl covered mattress was fine with our sleeping bags on top. We had a good time and enjoyed our stay. read more

Had a great 4 night stay here. Clean and friendly campground. We stayed in our RV. Sites aren't particularly large, but we were so busy sightseeing that it didn't bother us. They have a "pet farm" with a few goats, sheep, etc. Too cute! Two pool areas. We used the laundry facilities once. Machines work well. $2.00 a wash and $1.50 for dryers. You'll need quarters. There's a nice table for folding, a table with chairs and a few video games in the room. Great location and close to stores, etc. read more

We we're headed to Wyoming and had truck issues. We had to cancel our Wyoming campground reservations due to truck issues. We called around looking for campgrounds. We found Chris' Campground in Sturgis, South Dakota. They went out of their way to help us. They gave us a full hook up site for two days. Then once we got one issue fixed on truck we had another. We asked if they had additional days available that we could book until truck issues could be resolved. Owner said absolutely they would find us a site. This is a campground I cannot say enough about. They went above and beyond to calm our anxieties and to assist us. Highly recommend this campground. read more

The owners and staff are extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. We come year after year and love every time we stay. The campground is immaculate and there's always someone to help you with anything that comes up. I especially love the petting zoo where we get to feed the babies. read more

Everything was better than perfect! The people are all so friendly and the grounds are the best I've seen in awhile. We had 2 inches of rain since we've been here and there are almost no muddy spots. It's so pleasant here we stayed 2 extra nights. I highly recommend having a great time here! read more

Awesome people. There was a mixup in reservation and lanna fixed it put us in a spot that worked. During the stay I got sick and was flown out of state for medical issues. Lanna extended us even though the bike rally and races were a couple weeks away. Awesome people, decent campground and great location. read more

Lana is amazing. She and her husband own this place. We had a rough trip to get there. Our RV broke down many times on our way. We finally got there. Our 15 hour drive time took 3 day's. I kept in contact with Lana and she was so busy running her campground but made time to find us help. As soon as we pulled in. Our RV lost reverse. So she found us a campsite that we could just pull into. She asked one of her guys to come look at it. Craig was his name. He offered help and found us another guy to help us get home. Loved our stay there and we highly recommend Chris's campground!!!!! Unfortunately we broke down again about 250 miles away. Our RV is stuck at a shop in Kimball South Dakota. It's at a shop. So hopefully they can find the parts and fix it. We rented a van to get home. read more

We had reservations to stay here for two nights while traveling from Vancouver, WA to Wisconsin just because it was close to I 90 and Deadwood. What an amazing find for us out of towners. Lanna is top knotch at running the office and coordinating all the campsites at this large campground. It was totally packed for the Memorial weekend. The sites are clean and grassy. We have a 230 lb mastiff that was more than welcome by the hosts. There is an open field in which to walk and exercise your pets off leash. Two pools. Immaculate bathrooms, showers and laundry. A petting zoo for the kids. Small convenience store. The owner escorted us to our site and even directed my husband as he backed in. What a great start to the weekend, (no husband/wife set up stress or bickering) And then we asked if we could extend our stay through Tues night since we were loving it here. And they accommodated us and we didn't even have to move. This has been our favorite campground of the entire trip. Thank you Chris' Camp!!!! read more

This is a nice park, very large with nice spaces and trees. It would be much better if they didn't cram you in with your neighbors like sardines. Also, they appear to cater to families, which is wonderful if you don't mind screaming children running everywhere, riding their bikes all over the roads (in the middle of the driving roads), loud music, loud voices. If you are looking for a place to relax and have peace and quiet after a long drive, you should probably move on and choose a different park. read more

In case you are reading this right as you pull into town, stop and get cash first. They take cash or personal checks only, no debit or credit cards. But it is worth it! Trust me! We were amazed by this place. We have stayed in several campgrounds across the country, and usually try to stay in a KOA because of their reputation. However, when we called the KOA in Spearfish, we were appalled by the price. $67/night for a tent sight... A TENT sight!! We do have 7 people, but I know they only allow 6, so I said 6. And only one tent per sight. *sigh* Anyway, I found this campground on yelp, and even though the last review was 10 mos old, I decided to give it a try. The fact that it was aboyt a third of the price of the KOA was great! And when I asked if we could put up two tents on the site, she said she didn't care if we put up 4!! They charge by the person, not the number of tents. And apparently there was no max. Not that I know of, anyway. The off peak season price: for one night, the site without utilities is only $20 for up to 4 people. Then they add $2 for each extra person. The seven of us stayed there for $28. The owners of the camp were super friendly, willing to help with small things, and seemed to enjoy having our kids near. The kids got to bottle feed baby goats, a lamb, and watch a boy feed a calf. They LOVED that! The campground is HUGE!!! They had pleny of spots for each -- pull-thrus, back-ins, cabins, and tent sights. They have 2 regular size pools and one kiddie pool. The pools near us were regular (6ft max) and the kiddie pool (2 ft). They also have a playground, a small basketball court, SUPER CLEAN RESTROOMS with coin op showers (only 25 cents), laundry facilities with arcade games, a table & chairs, and a "book swap" table. Take a book, leave a book. :-) All in all, we were super pleased with this campground. We plan on coming back next year, staying here for a week, and seeing all the stuff near Rapid City. read more

We've stayed in several campgrounds and camping cabins, and this is by far the nicest one we've been in. We were in Cabins #10 and #11, which were kind of by themselves. They were clean, comfortable, and bigger than most cabins. Ours had a dresser, a mini-fridge, a table w/ four chairs, a queen bed and two twins on a bunk. Most importantly, it had A/C!!! The bathrooms were close, and the cleanest we've ever seen in a campground. Although the campground was almost full, we didn't see anyone else use our bathrooms. There are two pools, but the upper one was really nice with a slide that the kids loved. They also have two litle playgrounds and a petting zoo. The only negative, and this is minor, is that they don't take credit cards. I wish we would be going back to Spearfish more often. This was a great place! read more

Nice & clean but sites r very small. U r crammed in next to ur neighbor. If u want a quiet campsite - this is not the place. The quiet time is not mandated & we heard motorcycles/dune buggies until 11:30 at night. Altho the office was great at getting us in on a weekend. read more

Great Place to stay in Northern Black Hills My wife and I really enjoyed our stay the last week of June 2018. The Christiansen's own the place and know how to make people comfortable right away. Being a Black Hills native, I particularly wanted to be near Spearfish Canyon which is always beautiful. We are usually tent campers and, with our dog, have stayed in a lot of tent sites in CA/UT/MT/WY/CO and SD. Our site at Chris's was easily one of the best we've had including other tent sites in other campgrounds in the Black Hills.The location gives easy access to the many historic sites in the area (Devils Tower, Deadwood, Lead) as well as Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park. Predicted rain on our last night caused us to get one of the cabins which was quite comfy and even had AC. We were able to pack up our week's worth of camping gear before the rain and left happily dry the next morning. Thank you Lanna and Bryce for a great vacation! read more

IMHO... we called for a reservation - no mention of cash only - we scraped up the cash - for what reason i do not know - our bad --- the some guy takes husband off in golf cart while i am left sweating in the rv - the road is much higher and with a class c pulling a flat bed trailer - almost impossible to get your rv and trailer out without major scraping IMHO -- not an easy in/out -- most camp grounds it is flat and you drive in and out without trying to figure all the angles etc necessary to leave --- been a full timer for 1 year and beginning our second this is worst easy in/out and the cash thing is off putting --- i have read one review where they thought the woman in the office was snarky - i would never be back there and i am sure that none there will miss us - i have read all the positives - we all have our own standards read more

If you want to roll the dice and take a chance, you might get a beautiful site. You also might end up as we did and receive a terrible site as we did for our recent six night stay. We were offered one of two pull-through sites for our 34' MH towing a car. The better of the two sites was very long on a gravel drive-way so long that we could've parked two or three cars behind the coach. The problem was the site was very narrow. I had to sit on my neighbors picnic table to access the storage bays on the driver-side slide. On the passennger side, the coach steps emptied directly onto the berm of the main black top road. The road was so close with no visual separation and elevated, cars driving by could look directly into our windows as they drove by. There was an annoying car dragging something on the ground that drove by repeatedly like I was at a homeless camp of some type. When exiting the coach, one had to walk at an angle and dodge a tree to get to what was the only room at our site to set up a chair, table, etc., the long gravel driveway behind the coach. We like to spend time outdoors and we do most of our cooking outside. This was a very awkward arrangement that I have not had to experience in my 30+ years of camping and RV'ing. Traveling with my wife and grand daughter, I often relinquish the bathroom to the girls and use the park bath-house to shower. Putting quarters into a machine to take a shower was like being at some funky state park where you pay next to nothing per night to camp and not a nice resort type facility as we are accustomed to experiencing. I only used their shower once during my stay. Yes the park is pretty and the owners are nice and friendly. However, the bummer was that I made my reservation in November for a June visit. Not sure if the returning campers get all the good sites as a priority. We really did not enjoy our time at this resort and the site we received was not on par with how early I made my reservation and the number of nights we spent camping there and is not indicative to what we are accustomed to in our travels. read more

I stayed a couple nights during the 2014 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Nice campground. Staff was well organized, friendly and professional even in the middle of the mayhem. Facilities were clean, grounds were well kept and quiet. Will be going back to stay there with my family! read more

I'm so glad we found this place as we were traveling through South Dakota. We had a free Good Sam one night stay coupon, so were looking for a Good Sam place in particular. We happened to be in town during the Sturgis rally, so for 20 bucks we camped our camper van in their overflow lot and were able to enjoy all of their amenities. They obviously want to offer people a really great time, and I couldn't have asked for more. read more

Was just there for a week 9/3 to 9/7, Campground is beautiful all tree-lined and shaded. The staff, especially Lanna, was wonderful and extremely helpful. Would definitely go back if ever in the area. Their fees were more than reasonable: $10 a night per person. We had 2 sites with 3 tents for 3 people. There were pools we didn't use as we were there for a conference. The bathrooms were clean and had ample stalls and showers. The roads and sites were well maintained and we enjoyed the clean sites and fire places. They had wood and ice in the store and the office/store hours were very good so if you came in early or late there was someone there. I highly recommend staying there if in the Spearfish area. read more

When we camp in the Spearfish area we usually stay here. The staff is nice, they are tolerant of little kids, the facilities are clean, and you can tell that they work hard at running the place efficiently. You have to pay with cash or check which isn't a big deal, and the showers are quarter fed, but for the pool and the price it's not a bad place to stay. read more
