We had a death in our family. We wanted to send some really good food because we could not be there in person and wanted to hug our family from across the country. We found this great place on google and ordered. Our family actually knew Christina's Epicure well which was great. They told us the food was delivered on time the way it was promised and everything was great. The best part of my experience was Peggy! She took so much time to help us navigate the order and she was just the best person. She contacted my cousins and worked around their schedule to make sure they received the order. I am new to the area and have found my food place at Christina's. The food is fresh and competitively priced. I can find deli selections, bakery items, frozen items, prepared meals and unique groceries that I haven't seen elsewhere. The catering foods are fantastic too (my grown kids actually think I have made some meals myself!) I typically stop on my way home and it's frequently close to closing but everyone is happy to help me despite its being later. The workers are mostly young local kids who are helpful, kind and respectful. The manager Peggy is also fabulous. I shop at Christina all the time and have never been disappointed. read more

I was a steady customer of Christine's, as their food can be quite good and convenient, despite being much more expensive than local supermarkets. However, I came to notice that they regularly overcharge you on many different types of items throughout the store, from anything from fruit to pretzels. The last time it happened, the cashier was very rude and unapologetic about overcharging me. I didn't notice I was again overcharged until immediately after I paid. I told the cashier, and she said she noticed it as she rung me up, but didn't bother to bring it to my attention. She refused to refund the difference to my card, and after the manager had to get involved, I was so annoyed I just had them refund everything. I haven't returned here, nor to their Huntington location. If you go here, be sure to pay attention to the prices shown on the computer at checkout. read more

Eat Better. That's the motto at Christina's Epicure and for fairly good reason. They have a very nice selection of gourmet and day to day items although the prices are on the high side. However, they do run quite a few specials and the sale items are actually a pretty decent value. The specialty meat and cheese and vegetable sections are well stocked and have enough choices to keep you coming back for more. A nice selection of baked goods and a small cafe round out the place. Similar to other reviews, I have been a regular customer for years. However, over the past several months, I have been going to other stores because Christine's prices continue to increase in percentages that make no sense. I know the price of goods has increased everywhere, but there is a limit. Meat that used to be $10 is now $14. They were making a profit at $10, and even if their costs have increased, 40% is just plain greedy. I actually told the manager, but she didn't care ..."but we are working so hard for you"! I stayed at the East Norwich Inn across the street while I was in town for a night. I thought this place offered a lot of great healthy ready made food (hence, epicure). I had an amazing and huge turkey/ cheese dam which and salad. They have many options. All the places next to them are Italian mostly and a random (seemingly overly priced) steakhouse. read more

THE BEST sandwich on the Island (reminds me of the delis on those numbered streets in the city I would get as a kid). As all can see, I wrote my initial review in 2010 so cannot be accused of being a homer or plant for Christines. I live less than a mile from the store and it is still my go to place for groceries despite a Stop and Shop a mile down the road, a deli across the street and a gourmet shop on the corner. Despite Victoria X's review...I am there at least 5-6 times a week, maybe more. I have never come home with spoiled food. Much of what they carry is prepared on premises and always fresh. I purchase meat weekly and if the package is marked prime, it is just that. If I want less expensive meat I go to Fairway. Apples to apples comparisons...prime shirt steak at Christine's runs about 9.99-11.99; fairway is 16.99 for prime this week. I find it hard to believe any store in this area would risk their business for false advertising meat quality. Service is always exceptional from the manager who is almost always in the store to the check out people. I call in the morning for a meat order and it is fresh cut to my request and ready for pickup. Peggy is alway friendly and ready to help. She assisted my wife with a corporate party for nearly 200 people at a local business and everything was great. The stock is always changing and sale merchandise is prominently displayed. For example, this week, San Marzano tomatoes are 2 cans for 5.00 among many other advertised items. I have driven to Maine for great lobster; Philadelphia for chees steaks and Baltimore for Crabs. I am fortunate to have Christine's close by for my daily needs. Victoria X...I lived in Douglaston for 12 years. There are a lot of places between here and Queens to bitch about. I think complaining about vinegar is probably not worth the time and effort given the store offered to make good. I work for a major health system and have had many opportunities to utilize their catering talents. Peggy - wonderful, beautiful, accomodating Peggy! She is the life-blood of this store! Always on time, always fresh, delicious and creative food. Once the catering truck skidded out on a slick, winter highway and Peggy quickly remade the food and got it to us on time! And that was East Norwich to New Hyde Park! Christina's also delivers Thanksgiving dinner to our children's hospital. The delivery people "love to see the smiles on the kid's faces". On the plus side I love that you can always get a fresh turkey sandwich...fresh as in sliced off the bone and not that 'real' turkey that somehow evolved into a loaf design. On the negative, the few times I picked up something already prepared ( just too lazy to cook ..what can I say, I'm not the happy homemaker) I was consistently disappointed. Everything always looked way better than it tasted and at those prices you really do expect much better food. We love this place. When we are on the way home and we have to get something and think about the alternatives in the area, we almost always opt for Christina's. First off, everyone inside is friendly and the store is immaculate. They have an unbelievable selection of cheeses and dips. The help is always courteous and helpful. You won't find everything on your list or ,at least, in twenty varieties , but they have most of what you need. Their prepackaged meals are much better than you might expect. In all the time we have been coming here, I've never seen a line develop before they add cashier staff-- a huge plus because I hate lines. A hidden secret... Well not so secret...... They have the best bags around. The bags don't break and they don't leak. Why don't other store get this right? I'll never know. A little pricier than other groceries in the area for some things, but at this stage of my life, I don't mind paying for quality and a pleasant shopping experience. Well done Christina's! read more

Whenever I'm "home" on Long Island I pop in to this cute little spot which is right across from my mom's neighborhood. It has the stuff I used to keep in my place when I lived in the city and in walking distance. Stuff I couldn't ever get when living in Michigan. While you probably couldn't do ALL of your shopping here, it does offer excellent meats, deli, fish, produce. Better still: the brined snacks. I don't know what else to call them... but like peppers stuffed with prosciutto/salami and provolone, olives, oil and brine packed veggies. Amazing. Also great fresh bread. They have great brie options including some brie tortes that make a perfect, simple, option for entertaining. The beer selection is small but always interested with some local beers stocked. You can't get wine here (because NYS has yet to update their blue laws) but there are wine shops in the shopping center that have great offerings. If you don't want gourmet cheeses there is an open wall fridge along the back wall that has the mass-produced cheeses and other dairy products that come at a lower price. When I was a kid this was a gristedes with a cigarette machine near the back door. Kind of funny to see how high end it's gone but definitely keeps the locals happy, especially the ones who live in some of the more exclusive areas nearby. But, even for regular middle-class schmoes like me it's a great spot to pick up picnic goodies or game night munchies. read more

I love this place when I want to get good food without being crowded or wandering lost in a big supermarket. The veggie section has the freshest choices and everything is laid out beautifully. I love their meat department but their fish department is probably the best around... even better than the local fish stores around. If I want to grab a quick lunch, they have an assortment of interesting salads and sandwiches and good sushi, too. I have used them to cater two small dinners for me. One of them I picked up and it was great. The other I had delivered. Peggy the manager had it timed perfectly so the food would come hot and just in time for me to serve my guests. I took a ride to Christina's epicure last night because their weekly flyer caught my eye for prime porterhouse steaks for $8.99. Upon my arrival I found that the steaks were not USDA Prime steaks but USDA choice. It was my fault for not closely reading the flyer but I think there was some flase advertising intentions there. The store was very clean and the people working there were very nice. There was alot of prepared refrifgerated foods there which looks appealing but I'm not a big fan of that kind of stuff. I'm OK with fresh out of the kitchen prepared foods but not the ones that sit in the fridge. I thought the prices was somewhat high but I guess that's normal for that area. I live closer to the Faiway Market in Plainview and I wanted to see if this place compares to. In my opinion, the Fairway Market is better. read more

Hello everyone, my name is Jane. I'm new to yelp (in fact this is my first post ever). I am a relatively new shopper at Christina's Epicure, and now quite the regular. Initially I was not going to write a review but after seeing a negative one here. (In particular Victoria), I feel inclined to do so.(Somebody needs to stick up for them) I eat that same Wild Rice salad almost every other day and has consistently been one of the best crowd pleasers at the table for myself, many of my guests, and my family as well. (And we have high pallets to please). Top down the place is excellent! Every staff member is aimed to please and ALWAYS happy to help me. (indicative they are happy to work there!). From my experience the food has always been fresh and excellent... I mean what can I say?? Christina's Epicure has phenomenal meat, produce, fish, sushi, and especially their prepared foods. They also have some great circulars, you should check them out weekly. Anyways A++ all the way! Keep up the good work! O and "Victoria X", when someone tells you to call and they will make it fresh for you im pretty sure that means they will start it according to when you want to pick it up. I have been shopping here since the week it opened. It is difficult for me to shop anywhere else as they know how to spoil a customer. The manager is always looking to please you as well as the staff - right down to the young cashiers. From their produce, dips, prepared foods and more ...it all looks yummy. If I am ever disappointed in an item - the manager looks to make it better. My friends in the Hamptons wish they would open there....I am constantly bringing out to them some of my favorite things. Great shop for fruits and some vegetables, although I do wish their selections were broader. What earns them five stars in my view is their fine ( if limited) selection of prime cuts of meat. Their loin veal chops are the tenderest cuts I've ever eaten, and their steaks are fantastic. Their prepared dishes are quite good too. Overall, a nice place to shop for a limited choice of foodstuffs because what they do carry is the best! read more

Manny is great, he's always so helpful and friendly and just when you can't find something he appears from no where to help but Peggy is Christina's. She's been there pretty much since the beginning and I understand that she's needs to be in the office but there must be some place upstairs where she can do her work as well as greet her customers. This place is great to get high quality food. This place definitely can't replace going to a normal super market as the prices are very high and their selection is small. I was always a big fan, however I see a huge downgrade in food quality. I recently purchased a roasted chicken they used to be flavorful, now they taste chalky and very fatty. We ended up chopping this up of poodles. We also purchased the store made pita chips the grease flavor has become overpowering so disappointed . I love Christina's Epicure! The food is fantastic and always fresh! If either my mom or myself are not there every day, then we are there just about every other day. I get things for dinner from the prepared foods counter or the grab-n-go section. Some of my favorite dishes are the caprese lasagna roll ups (probably my absolute favorite!), chicken cacciatore, chicken Marengo, chicken bruschetta and the chicken meatloaf and meatloaf with mozzarella. I also really like the chicken meatballs, honey chicken strips, chicken empanadas, mashed sweet potatoes, mixed roasted potatoes, home fried potatoes, vegetable fried rice, sautéed vegetables and balsamic vegetables just to name some more delicious items. The best is getting the lasagna roll ups and a couple of chicken meatballs to have together. They don't always have the same things each week; it depends on what is on special for their weekly sale (which runs from Thursday to Wednesday), but they do have some staple items, like chicken cutlets (breaded, lemon and balsamic), fried chicken and chicken wings to name a few. I also get my cold cuts and tuna salad there to have for lunch. The cold cuts I like are usually on special and I really like Christina's own double roasted turkey, which I get often. The tuna salad is very good, although I have to say that at times it is a bit dry and I would have to add a little mayo. I like that it is a bit cheaper than Bagel Boss! Sometimes I will treat myself and get a salad for lunch. They are a little pricey, but so delicious and filling and well worth it! The only thing I will say is that I am not overly crazy about all of the Italian meals from the grab-n-go section. They are okay, but not great. I like a lot of sauce and they do not put much sauce on them, so I find myself asking for an extra container of sauce at the counter (I do that for the lasagna roll ups too). I have sampled some of the dips and spreads and the ones I have tried are very good. If you are in the mood to get dessert, the chocolate pudding is soooooooo good and I like some of the muffin flavors!!! The staff is friendly and helpful too. Overall, I have not been disappointed. I agree with the review about there being no lines ever! If even one or two people are waiting, they add another cashier to ring up. I also agree about their plastic bags. They are very sturdy and never rip or leak. I was almost going to give Christina's 4 stars because there have been times when they did not have something that was advertised on special in their circular for the prepared foods or grab-n-go section. Sometimes I was looking so forward to something and it was disappointing to get there and find out that they did not have it. If a particular item is advertised, then they should have that item. Lately though, they have been much better about having everything that is advertised in their circular. I have to say, every now and then they will have something I really like that I was not expecting to see. It is a nice surprise! I definitely recommend Christina's! I never had a bad experience there and I don't understand how anyone could. To the ones who posted a negative review, I say try going again! I don't think you will be sorry.
