Everyone was very helpful and very nice…read more But, we came here to cut down a fresh Christmas tree, and this "tree farm", had nothing left besides precut trees from Sparta, NC. My boyfriend and I were greeted and given a saw (when asked) and we ventured out into the farm looking for our beautiful tree. We walked, and walked, and walked. All of the trees were either "Charlie Brown" trees, or they were tagged for other customers. It's only December 4th. So, this farm is advertising that they have several varieties of trees (check out their website) and they had nothing left except for precut Fisher Firs, and it's barely December. We ended up taking home one of the firs because we didn't want to spend all day looking for tree farms. Very disappointing experience, but I gave 2 stars based on the staff.

They also have a great sale on tulip bulbs at $1 each. We met the owner and multiple staff members and they were so nice and gracious. There is hot chocolate and hot cider to drink as you peruse the trees. The parking lot is a bit small it's about 20 cars but we went early on a Friday morning we had no issues. They also have a really awesome tent full of poinsettias and Christmas cactuses. there's also a nice wood-burning fire going on so you can smell the smells of the season.

They had tables set up where we had tools to mix different dried herbs, spices, and got to pick fresh herbs from the garden. We learned the medicinal properties of each herb and how it can enhance specific dishes and recipes. The woman hosting the event blessed us with homemade jam and homemade lavender scones, as she just got back from Scotland. This was a memorable event and the garden is absolutely perfect. Definitely recommend volunteering and attending local events there.

Josh Sattin is the Farm Manager who uses a no till approach and believes in farming with minimal inputs and no herbicides or pesticides. The produce will soon be available to all community members through a farmstand starting at the end of April 2020 with produce also being donated to local non-profits who address food insecurity. Raleigh City Farm also offers great community programming, including workshops and events (they host an annual, free Bearthday event in April and annual Harvest Dinner in October). I have been to several garden shops in the area and this is the most expensive. Even their discounted items are still pricy. I ended up not buying anything and visiting a different garden shop. I was able to find most of what I needed here and more but they were not worth the price. I do like how organized the shop is. Having so many plants can't be easy to keep organized and healthy. I like how things are labelled and their large selection. Discount sections are nice and so is the free parking. The center was easy to locate and park. I was surprised to find an expansive garden shop in downtown Raleigh. Overall, we enjoyed walking through the shop, but found the prices too expensive.

They also have wreaths and the ball lights that they made...they are beautiful. Prices are high but to be expected when you buy a Christmas tree once a year. It seems that if you wait a little longer like a week or so after Thanksgiving, the prices did decrease about $50 or more. I guess they are trying to get rid of the trees. So if you can be patient, highly recommend waiting a week after Thanksgiving and you can get somewhat of a deal but to me they are still high lol. Still a beautiful tree!!

The farm staff were very welcoming and willing to answer our questions. There was a little outdoor marketplace where vendors were selling their merchandise -- mostly unique handmade items. There is also a small store that reminds you of a vintage country store. Raw honey, old fashioned candy, and much, much more. The store has a vintage vibe but they are modern enough to accept Apple Pay. Score! There are beautiful plants and flowers outdoors. Also you can find yard/garden decor. To wrap up our visit, we bought freshly popped popcorn and ordered handmade milkshakes to go.
