I love Dr. Barnard AND his staff. Not only is he a very thorough dermatologist, he is an artist. Having seen the results of others after the removal of cancerous growths, his works is incomparable. I was a patient of Dr. Barnard years ago (to long to recall) and called to get an appointment for some really slow healing wounds...I was able to get an appointment with another doctor in the office in just a few days. I got a call from the office shortly before my appointment and was that my assigned doctor was not able to see me...but, Dr. Barnard would be able to ,see me the same day,but it would be very late in the afternoon. I was really pleased!! My visit was actually the very last of the day and was a great experience! Dr. Barnard was as I remembered, Kind, Thorough, Concerned. When I checked out they were giving me a Rx at my pharmacy, and told me that I would need to get some blood work done before I could get a refill. Fine. I called shortly before my Rx ran out and asked them to E-Mail me the form...They can't do that...Can you FAX it to me? They can't do that..."We can mail it to you." Please do that...it never happened!! Yet, when my pharmacy requested a re-fill the office authorized it...Without blood work! Another 30 days goes by and I am leaving town...and I don't have enough meds to cover my trip...I am not going to get my refill...I can't get the blood work done in time...the staff, although very nice, seem to be unable to follow up...beware of the poorly run front office. read more

I really liked Dr. Barnhard; however like the other 4 dermatologists I saw; I never got a skin punch test. Everyone of them JUST ASSUMED they knew what My problem was! And threw antibiotics at it and Cortisteriods (research the creams, triamcinolone cream can actually cause skin issues!) a skin punch test, an actual diagnosis most likely would have saved me from 3 endless years of skin misery! AND A TON of $$ I would like to suggest to ANYONE headed to any dermatologist That you understand what will help with your diagnosis. Know if its bacteria, fungus, yeast, or mites/parasites. I was prescribed an antibiotic for what is clearly Fungus or yeast. And the cream thinned my skin and let the Fungus take over. In fairness to all of these Doctors... There are thousands of skin disorders, made all the more difficult by many of the new GMO grains. I had an MRI with contrast ( they call it that because its poison & they Don't want to say that ) that I had a reaction to. Did any if these doctors listen! That would be a resounding NO. And a loss of the top layer of my once perfectly beautiful skin. I saw Dr. Barnhard 3 times I think and asked for the punch test twice. It never happened. I fixed my skin with tea tree oil mixed with organic coconut oil. Best of luck to you all! read more

by far one of the excellent doctors on the peninsula- i had a biopsy, it was sent off and came back negative, he looked at and said "I still don't like the look , can I do another from the same spot but a little deeper and more on the side -" came back positive this time- -Mohs treatment was great and a good closure no scarring read more

I have been a long time patient of Dr. Barnard, and think he is wonderful. His office staff, however, is incompetant and rude. After the office staff cancelled an appointment I waited three months for, I waited another 6 weeks to be called the day before my appt and be cancelled again! I had an appointment in October 2014 with a new associate Dr Konner (sp?). She looked at one mole only, she didn't have time for a complete exam, and recommended that I come back in 6 months for a full body exam. . She was new to the office and didn't have a patient list, the office waiting area was empty. I was a little put off at that time, but decided to wait it out My appointment was scheduled for April 14, 2015 at 1:00pm. I called the end of February, to see if I could come in before that date. I was told that she was on leave; they didn't know if she was coming back, and they would confirm my appointment for 4/14/15. If I didn't feel comfortable with waiting to hear, I would have to schedule a new appointment with another Doctor who of course couldn't see my until after the 4/14/15 date. I decided to wait for my April appointment. Of course, no one called to confirm my 4/14/15 appointment. So I called this morning 4/14/15 at 8:25am, and was told I had no appointment! Furthermore,this new associate is so busy that her day is completely booked. I wish I had read the comments for this doctor's office before I made the first appointment. My appt was about a week ago with Angela, I went in because I've had some dark spots on the side of my stomach that have been becoming larger over time. If your a new patient expect to fill out forms and such. My appt was earlier in the morning and I was called in right after I filled out the clipboard. The room I was lead to was really clean and organized, It's a really large location (really easy to find on hwy 68) I spoke to a woman who took down details about my visit then met Angela who looked at my skin she was really informative and recommended a lotion which has now lightened them and also something for acne. I also noticed she was more aware about my skin than a previous dermatologist I went to years ago in Salinas. She really did allow questions which is always great. I ended up being there about 25 min max. The medications at the pharmacy were a mix-up with how they sent the information but after phoning the office I got what I needed downside 2/3 were pricey. I live in LA so getting this appt in like 2 weeks was quick and felt professional and upscale. I'm not understanding the negative comments but I get everyone has their own issues impatient or not and also they likely turned things around. I also enjoy the printed next appt cards :) read more

Dr. Barnard has been the most phenomenal dermatologist I have ever encountered. I have had severe acne since I was a freshman in high school and was always embarrassed of my skin. Dr. Barnard helped me heal my skin to perfection. He constantly works with me and genuinely cares about his patients well being and feelings. I moved to Phoenix, Arizona as I am attending a university here and I will not change dermatologists. He is the only dermatologist I will see. I see him when I visit from college or I fly in if I really need to see him. His care has boosted my confidence and has allowed me to have fun in college without the worries of my skin. I have been able to focus on my studies and go out and do things I would not do before my skin was healed. Every visit he asks me about college, how I am doing, and offers advice as I am striving to become a doctor. The staff is exceptional as well, always love Sonia's kindness and her worth ethic is remarkable.  If I could give him more than 5 stars I would. Thank you Dr. Barnard for everything you do. You have impacted my life in the most positive way. Now I can be who I truly am without the acne controlling my life. You're truly the best. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Barnard's for awhile and can't rave about him enough. He is very thorough, has a great eye for cosmetic procedures, and always takes plenty of time to answer my questions or explain possible new treatments for me. His staff is also very courteous and polite. I've been to many doctors who have made me feel as though they are rushing me and i've never felt that way with Dr. Barnard. If you interested in getting cosmetic touch-ups or regular dermatology services, I would highly recommend going to him. My husband said I've never looked better! read more

Never again! I called to make an appointment to have a possible melanoma checked out and was told the earliest available appointment was two months from now. I could understand a long wait if I were a new patient, but as an established patient I expected something sooner - at least within a week or two. I'm not sure what changed given my initial appointment as a new patient nine months ago only required about a three week wait, but I am very disappointed and will be going elsewhere. read more

I am now looking for a new dermatologist - one that will actually keep the appointment and not reschedule for 3 months later, whose office actually answers the phone (not a recording that says messages will be FAXED to the office) and returns calls, and who makes time in their schedule for urgent issues. I have been a patient of Dr Barnard's for years and think he's very good, but I haven't seen him in person in ages! I'm not sure if he's aware of the issues in his office. A few months ago I called with a scary sudden rash and was advised that none of the doctors was available for 2 months and that I should go to urgent care. I did and was told I definitely needed to see my dermatologist. Called office back and they suggested the ER or another practice! I actually asked them to have him call me, but never received a call. Most recently, I had to cancel my appointment because of illness- next available appt is in December!! Guess I'll go in with flu if I ever get in again! read more

The office staff is incompetent. I never did get to see Dr. Barnard because I was told I could get in to see the P.A. sooner about a lesion on my hand and then could schedule my excision with the doctor more quickly than I would if I waited to see him initially. After I saw the P.A. I scheduled what I thought was the surgery to be done with Dr. Barnard. However, both the doctor and the P.A. decided to go on vacation at the time I was scheduled to have my procedure so the receptionist called me to say my appointment had been cancelled. When I asked how long it would be I was told it would be another five weeks out. Then, the receptionist said I'd have to see Dr. Barnard for an evaluation of the lesion first and it would cost me the price of another office visit. So, basically I was back at square one. DON'T GO TO THIS DOCTOR. I always judge the quality of a physician by the way his or her office is run. Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer quality doctors around anymore and this is a prime example of one. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Barnard for over 10 years and have recommended him to dozens of people over the years, but the office manager he has in the new building is rude and inconsiderate. My son recently took a day off work and drove over one hour for his appointment and when he arrived was told that the doctor would not see him that day (Dr. Barnard was in the office). They said they tried to reach him but did not have a correct phone number which we know was not true because they had called him to get insurance information. They offered him an appointment in two months with a different doctor, which is too long to wait since he already had waited over one month for his appointment with Dr. Barnard. I did make contact with Dr. Barnard to express my disappointment at how my son was treated, but he did not respond. It's disappointing to know that the high regard I have had for Dr. Barnard is not reciprocated and my family's loyalty is no longer appreciated. Not a happy patient:I went to see Dr. Barnard for itchy mole-like spots on my back and upper chest. However, my main reason for going was a rash on my upper thighs that was raised compared to the skin around it. The doctor, not Dr. Barnard, examined the spots on my back and chest and immediately had her assistant get something to freeze them off. This worked well. I then expected that the doctor would examine the rash on my upper thighs but she left the room giving her assistant instructions that I should return in 6-12 months for a follow up visit. I did not know what to think but assumed that maybe the doctor had issued a prescription for me and had left it at the front desk. No such prescription was awaiting me at the reception desk. I left the office wondering just what had happened. My main reason for going there was not addressed in any way, shape or form. Her manner in the room was clinical and unfeeling. I was a little reluctant to expose my upper thigh area to a female doctor but knew that something needed to be done to ease the itchiness of the rash. If this is an example of the quality of the work that is performed at this office then I would recommend anyone avoiding this office. read more
