I am a patient of Dr Richardson, and have nothing but superlatives to say about the experience. I had a serious case of cataracts at a relatively young age. I flunked my eye exam at the dmv which made it important to fix the problem quickly. After carefully explaining the process and choices, I was more than amazed with the results. "Let there be sight"! would be the obvious. Within minutes of surgery, I was able to see clearly, and with brilliant lights everywhere. Once the cataracts were removed, I was further grateful to find out that I had 20 20 vision in both eyes, and did not need reading glasses. I was told this is not always the case, but I would have been satisficed with anything close to normal. The process is somewhat complex but the results are perfect eye sight with minimal risks. The nurses were easy to work with and I now have amazing sight. When I called to book an appointment, I specifically stated that I have keratoconus, wear scleral lenses, and was over due for contact lenses prescription update. I asked see someone who specializes in Keratoconus and Scleral lenses. I was told that would be possible. I arrive for my appointment and first thing is they make it abundantly clear (with tacky printed paper signs) that they DO NOT see patients without a co-pay. Receptionist was rude, but hey low wages and $6 gas, I get it. But at least get some professional signs. I forgot my wallet and was informed they don't see patients without a co-pay. Period. They don't take any form of digital payments. I was able to use my digital credit card's virtual card number for the $50 copay. I sat down and waited and waited min for my appointment. They had no problem giving plenty of attention to the vendors who came in after me. Two vendors were led back to see their physicians without haste and both appeared to come in unannounced. I finally get called back, with no apology for any delays. I've been treated better in a line at a night club. After initial question were gathered, I was informed that I was only scheduled for a basic eye exam and NOT anything related to getting my prescription updated (even though I specifically stated that when I called), I would have to come back and spend ANOTHER $50 to see a different doctor who does not specialize in Keratoconus, but handles prescriptions. Both of my previous experiences at optometrist both doctors who specialized in my eye disease were able to examine my eyes AND fit my scleral lens prescription. Here it seems they want to milk you for all they can, so book you for 2 separate appointments. They did cancel my appointment, but I wasted my time taking off work and going here to sit around in a waiting room with 1 bar of cell service. Avoid. The customer service is awful. They do a great job at making you feel like a number. But that's what you get in America where our healthcare is a luxury to be rationed. If you are going to rob people for co-pays at least get some decent wifi so we can browse the internet while we wait patiently for our rationed health care. Trust the one star reviews, Waste of time and overly expensive with bad attitudes. Go else where. read more

If you want to be treated like you're in a factory, this is the place for you. Absolutely zero personal contact, check in is with a machine, so just know you are being processed. These people really need some BASIC customer service training!! No one told me my eyes would be dilated and I came alone so I had to cancel my appointment and get my money back. No apology. Had cataract surgery for simple lens replacement. 1) During a pre-surgery visit, the technician pressed me for advanced surgery which I said would be determined only after I talk to the surgeon. Upset, she was replaced by another technician who tried to get me to sign an approval form for advanced surgery. After talking with the surgeon, it was decided i did not need advanced surgery, which is obviously more expensive. 2) One pre-surgery visit lasted 5 minutes during which the technician just read the information I had received on how to apply eye drops before surgery. I was charged $350 for that visit which the center NEVER submitted to Medicare, although they did submit all other expenses to Medicare. After 6 months of my contesting that bill, I was told they should not have charged me for it and so, there is no balance due. 3) The surgeon clearly was working on the clock. Barely had any time to ask any questions before she darted out of the room to other patients. Not a good feeling overall. I certainly will not go there when I need cataract surgery on the other eye. read more

This morning, April 13, 2026,I had an 8:30 appointment at Vantage Eye Center, Ryan Ranch Monterey with Dr. Zachary Richardson. I've been a patient there for about 7 years and today the office opened at 8:00 and I arrived at self check-in by 8:25 for my 8:30 appointment. An assistant called my name and moved me to an office for a check in by 8:45, then I was moved to a waiting room, and finally by 9:10 I arrived in the room where Dr. Richardson was to examine me. Another 20 minutes passed, now 60 minutes total without an update or apology. Feeling disrespected and ignored during this hour's wait, I left the examining room and returned to the front desk asking for a refund of my co-pay. The front receptionist was quick and helpful. This morning I left Vantage Eye Care frustrated and disappointed because I not only wasted a vacation day morning, I lost out on the appointment I waited a month for, and I lost faith in an eye center I really liked. When I have been in Dr. Richardson's direct care, he has been attentive and excellent at his job, however, a 60 minute wait without any notice or update is without question excessive, so he will no longer be my glaucoma doctor. I hope they reflect about and improve their scheduling practices and customer care. read more

Very clean facility, easy computer check-in. The assistant who made the initial evaluation was knowledgeable and empathetic. Dr. Pruthi was very professional, while being warm and reassuring. He delivered the somewhat scary diagnosis with upbeat optimism and quick follow up. I left feeling much better about my future treatments. read more

I received appointment notice on Monday and I did a pre-check in (as usual). When I arrived this morning appointment 8:30 AM 6/19/2024, I reported my 8:30 appointment with Dr. Kim (Greatest Doctor). I was then told I need to check in, I told the receptionist that I already did the pre-check. She never bothered to check HER. System, and again told me I need to check in Thru the Kiosk.....WHY? Anyway, I went to the kiosk and started the procedure only to find I had to do the SAME thing all over again. WHY? So I again reminded the receptionist that I had already completed the pre-check in; Only to again told that I need to check in (kiosk)....At this time I left. read more

My husband was scheduled for cataract surgery with Dr Paige. When lens options weren't explained at his pre-op appointment, he assumed it would be covered on the surgery date. As he was being prepared for surgery, he asked when he would see the doctor. the nurse contacted Dr Page who came in. His comments to my husband were "curt" at best, and he told my husband that he was offering him a "standard " lens and anything else should have been covered on the"other side. He then told my husband that if he wasn't happy with that option, he was free to leave. Dr Page then walked out - my husband did as well. There was no apology for the miscommunication or attempt to rectify the situation. In short, Dr Page was rude, and the whole experience was that of a mill hustling patients through the Shute. I submit this with the hope that our experience was a one off, and that it does not reflect on the other physicians in this practice. read more

Tried to set an appt. Called to talk to someone and the lady on the phone was not interested in my concerns or vision history. Only wanted insurance/payment info. It's been a while since I've had an exam, this will be my first time since moving to the area. I've had some pretty severe eye issues in the past and I had concerns. The office and equipment seem very up to date. My experience with the staff is that they can be nice or a little condescending. My time with the doctor was rushed, with very short answers to my questions. And I wish Vantage wouldn't require several visits for what other eye centers take care of in one. read more

I must admit I am spoiled by my doctors and there staffs, I had an appointment at Vantage and after 3 RUDE and condescending calls from the office I cancelled. By the time of the 3rd call I admit I was yelling, I had been told the same thing over and over and as done hearing it. The last straw was being told that coming for a consultation for my droopy eye lid that I must have a dilatation. I said no I do not have someone to drive for me on a 2 day notice (not mentioned at the time I made the appointment) each call had a new excuse for the dilatation but the one that made me cancel was it was a malpractice protection for the doctor and the person launched into a story about going to a doctor with a broken leg (did not understand) everyone I spoke with was RUDE. Wish I had read some of the other reviews before I made an appointment, the doctors get high grades and the front desk staff gets an on star. It seems to be constantly that way for years. read more

My first review was related to significant time changes prior to my scheduled procedure. I received a nice reply from Dr. B. Thank you. I will say that after arriving at the center the morning of my procedure, and answering multiple questions via the phone as I stood outside in the cold. I was let into the lobby. It was large and only had one other person sitting alone on the far side of the room. From that point on all the staff was great. Very personable and articulate. My care was wonderful and they expressed gratefulness for my flexibility as even at that point they move me forward right into my procedure, because of a prior no show. I recently had a scare as my left eye became cloudier, cloudier as the day progressed. I had seen Dr. Holmes a month ago because of a newly developed floater. One thing he said to me is of anything changes come right in. Due to the current situation his office was closed. I spoke to his nurse and she referred me to Dr Chen at Ryan Ranch. He confirmed I didn't have a detached retina (which I thought I might). He referred me to the glaucoma specialist Dr Richardson. I've been two days in a row to see him and he's meeting me tomorrow just to check up. The dedication from Vantage is amazing. read more

Been coming here for years and overall it's just ok. Today my daughter had an 8am appointment. The doctor didn't even walk into the office till 8:15. Had to wait another 5 minutes before she came out. We were here 10 minutes early like we were supposed to. I find it very rude of the doctor to show up late for the first appointment and then not even acknowledge she was late. Because of this and the rude woman behind the desk in the glasses section, I think it's time for a new office. read more

Years ago.Dr. Bernardino did a lid surgery. He was very personable and did a great job. Dr. Mathew Jones was one of 4 ophthalmologists I visited to determine which lenses I might want for cataract surgery. No one other than Dr. Jones diagnosed a rare condition called pseudoexfoliation. I searched for some confirmation and found it with a doctor in Silicon Valley. It might have affected my surgery so the knowledge was significant. More important this condition can lead to glaucoma unless treated with an eye solution and monitored for eye pressure. It has been many years and so far so good thanks toa very good and gracious physician. I have moved to the East Bay and continue to see him. The trust I have in him is well worth the long drive. On one occasion when traffic delayed me beyond the normal he stayed to see me. How much better can you get than that!? read more

Regarding my visit on October 11, 2023, I had another wonderful experience with Dr. Farahmand as usual. My issue is with billing. I had exactly the SAME services rendered as a year ago; contact lens prescription which stayed the same as the previous year, dialation, eye pressure checks, etc.,- the routine eye exam. I don't have vision insurance and I have been paying out of my pocket. The bill in Oct. 2022 for the same services rendered was $130. This time they said it would be about $400.00! I was also charged with $40.00- copay when I checked in. How is it possible even considering the inflation? Why is it even allowed?? When I asked questions (BTW, the clerks were very ken and trying to help), I was given a certain percentage of 'discounts' (If they can do this, why don't they offer the amount in the first place?) ??? and left the office paying $300.00 --still outrageous. I love my doctor but I don't think I can go back to the office. Lost all faith and trust. read more

Customer care is excellent, the medical staff are professional and truly care about their clients. I highly recommend Dr. Jones who is one of the cornea specialists. He not only helped significantly reduce the horrendous pain I was experiencing in my right eye, he addressed all my concerns, he was thorough in explaining what my eye condition was and how best to treat it. He was compassionate, understanding and always ensured I was well informed and NOT IN PAIN. He did my surgery on his birthday that's how awesome he is and I'm forever grateful to him for my vision, having no pain and my eye doesn't cry or have light sensitivity! I called to make an appointment for a new pair of eye glasses. My vision exam was last October, 2021. The woman I spoke with told me that the prescription might not be valid after 6 months. It's written on my copy of the prescription that it's valid for two years. I tried to tell that to the person I spoke with and she just kept cutting me off. She was abrupt and disrespectful. My second experience with Vantage Eye Center was having cataract surgery done on both eyes by Dr Jones. The right eye was done first at the end of September this year. The surgery was quick and painless. I noticed improvement in my eyesight within a day or two following the operation. We did all the required eyes drops and had no issues with recovery. I returned for the left eye surgery at the beginning of this month and, again, a great experience. No problems with surgery or recovery. Within two weeks, I was seeing so well that I went down to DMV and was able to have the requirement for corrective lenses removed from my driver's license. I would recommend Dr Jones & Vantage Eye to anyone that needs cataracts removed. There were no problems with insurance coverage or treatment. The entire staff was pleasant and very accommodating. read more

Dawn in the optical department was also very nice, and knew what I wanted in frames and lenses. My glasses were ready in two weeks on the dot. Great quality frames and lenses. This is a follow up review. I had an unsatisfactory experience with an Optometrist last November and yelped about it. I was contacted by Dr. Bernardino who suggested I make an appointment with him to get his perspective as an ophthalmologist. I took him up on it. He's professional and personable. He discovered that I had something going on with my left cornea and recommended that I be seen by the cornea specialist at Vantage, Dr. Jones. I did that and, long story short, he said I had scarring on my cornea from previous Lasik that was distorting the shape of the cornea but that it could not be fixed. He suggested that I try toric contacts. So I made an appointment with Dr. Farahmand for contact lens fitting. Now this lady is really great! Low key, knowledgeable, collaborative. I saw her 3 times and she never made me feel pressured to throw in the towel. Turns out that I needed a different type of lens but I'm now very pleased to say that I can see where I'm going when I drive :) So overall I had a positive experience. It just took a long time and a lot of perseverance to get to the bottom of it. read more

I actually have a different eye doctor who is very great (I spent over $900.00 and was very pleased with the results) on various procedures and when I went to ask for them to give me my pupillary distance so I could order some spare glasses online, they wanted charge an additional $30 since it wasn't part of my prescription. Needless to say, that rubbed me the wrong way and I told them to just forget it. Here's were Vantage Eye Center comes into the picture. I had another appointment in this same building and I went up to the desk to make an appointment to get my pupillary distance measured, but 1 minute later I had it and there was no charge. I will NOT be going back to my old optometrist, but I will trust my eyes with Vantage Eye Center who obviously cares more for people than they do Quick Cash. Thank you so much! read more

I scratched my cornea while trying to remove a stubborn contact lens (and away from home). Vantage was recommended, and we were able to get an appointment within an hour of our call (on a Monday Holiday weekend). Dr. Page diagnosed the problem very quickly. He tried to get it to heal with rest and ointment, but it was a reopening of an injury from many years ago. After 4 days, he told me that it was healing badly over an old wound that had healed badly. He explained that surgery was the only way to get it to heal correctly. I was scheduled for surgery in 4 days, which went well and is healing well. It was a painful injury. He and his staff responded with kindness and compassion. Dr. Page is a Cornea specialist. and I felt completely confident in his diagnosis and treatment. He explained what he would do and patiently and kindly answered all questions. I recommend him highly. BTW: The facilities are attractive, well run, and perhaps most importantly - CLEAN - to the point of sparkling. Am two weeks past surgery now and getting better every day. Pain is gone. The two lovely ladies in Optical are rock stars! I work for a luxury hotel and spa and they know what it takes to provide exceptional service. I've purchased 3 pairs of glasses and have recommended anyone who needs glasses to go to the Best Place in Town! This morning I came in because my frame broke and with the inclement weather I was concerned that my glasses would have to go out for repair and I would have to drive without my favorite driving glasses. They immediately took care of this and in no time, I was on my way to work with my 100% functioning pair of glasses. Just had my second "experience" with them. My first, they accidentally dialated my eyes when I was supposed to be getting a visual field test (pituitary tumor precaution) soooo basically got dialted for nothing (which is never fun). I had to go back the next day, which was ok since the doctor went out of his way to come in early, to get the test done. Hey, mistakes happen, right? Today I was scheduled for another field vision test. My appointment was at 2:25pm and over an hour later at 3:35pm I was finally taken into a room. After a couple of questions and my mentioning of the field vision test the young lady left the room and came back 10 minutes later telling me I would not be having that test because it wasn't available. When I asked her what that meant, she told me that other patients were scheduled for it and the girl messed up when she made my appointment and failed to put me down on the schedule for it. They have some new girls and "stuff like that happens". I had taken off of work to get this done and had been there forever so I asked for a manager. Another 10 minutes of waiting and a girl named Monique comes in with an attitude and basically tells me there is nothing they can do. I let her know that I had a similar problem the last time and after almost two hours waiting there was there nothing they could do?? She just continued to give me attitude and said no. I asked to speak to the doctor and was left in the room, with the lights out, for another 15 minutes before she moved me to another room (and was completely unprofessional and rude). Another 10 before the doctor came in and he gave me no apologies. Said I picked a bad day to get the test done because a doctor uses their facility that day for glaucoma patients (I picked a bad day?? his staff scheduled me!!) Did a quick look in my eyes, said I should get the test (duh) and had another staff member schedule it for 2 weeks out. IF I didn't pay for this fiasco today I would NEVER go back but hell hath no furry if they charge me for the field test visit, and after that Buh Bye! read more

What a relief to have a permanent solution to a vexing and painful problem that I've dealt with for over 25 years.
