    Asian fusion flavored chocolate
    Patrick ..

Bottom Line Up Front: I'd never heard of this chocolatier until my cousin told me it's actually a big deal. After trying it, I can now see why. The Background: Socola offers high-quality chocolates with unique Vietnamese flavors. A unusual but brilliant concept that produces delicious treats. The Taste: I had the soda chanh, which would normally be a drink with 3 simple ingredients: lime, sugar, and carbonated water. I had no idea what to expect because chocolate is not the first thing I think of what someone says soda chanh, but I have to say this is one of the best white chocolates I've ever had. Somehow the drink flavor works as a chocolate! I also had the toasted coconut and black sesame milk chocolate, which was also unexpected but also delicious. It tastes exactly as it sounds, and yet all the disparate components complement each other perfectly. The Conclusion: Socola offers a unique East-meets-West approach to chocolate that works in such unexpected but amazing ways. The prices are certainly premium rates, but you get what you pay for.

I was on the hunt for locally made treats in SF (other than my "usuals") to gift to friends abroad--and let's be honest, I wanted something for myself too --when I thought of Socola. I had scoped out their website beforehand and was excited to try some of their AAPI-themed chocolate bar flavours. The shop is small (I overheard it's mostly used as their kitchen and that they also supply their airport location), but it's packed with a lot of tempting options--it was challenging to narrow it down to just a few! I ended up going with toasted coconut and black sesame, soda chanh, and turon. I've had Socola chocolates before (and got to sample a few in-store), and I can confidently say turon is my favourite so far. Sadly, it's only available for a limited time... might need to stock up! The staff were friendly and attentive to every customer who came in. I appreciated the warm service and recommendations. Can't wait to see what new flavours they come up with next!

I am a fan of Recchiutti so when a friend mentioned Socola, I definitely wanted to try especially the durian truffles. Only limited availability, they tend to sell out of these but they have a waitlist that will notify you when it becomes available again. The limited hours makes it hard to pickup orders if you don't want to pay for shipping unless you are working in the city and parking a challenge if they don't answer for your curbside pickup. Overall, the durian truffles were a unique offering that is rarely seen elsewhere so would return for that, but their other chocolates don't pack the flavor punch that I normally get with Recchiutti.

I decided to stop by Socola this past Wednesday and treat myself to some chocolatey nutty goodness. Love their toasted nuts and dark chocolate bar, made with all of my favorite nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios, pecans), you can taste the difference in quality of ingredients, it's quite addictive. Of course, I had to get a durian king bar for my bf. We tried both of these flavors from Socola's dessert booth at the SF Chocolate Salon a couple months ago, and fell in love! I'm glad to see that their actual chocolate shop on Folsom Street offers the same friendly service we received before, along with a welcoming atmosphere in a small and simple space. The lady at the front counter even provided samples of the chocolates before I made my purchase, she was very sweet. Can't get enough chocolate, and I especially like this spot for their unique blend of flavors.

I was in SF for a quick work trip but carved out time to find a chocolatier so I could bring some stuff back home. My local co-workers weren't much help (they mentioned See's), so I used Yelp to find a place relatively close to the office, and I found Socola. Monday in the early afternoon was going to be quiet, so I had plenty of time to look and ask questions. I mentioned I was from out of town, and I was looking for their signature box. They mentioned the Little Saigon box, which was interesting for me but probably a little out there as a souvenir box; pho truffle intrigued me, but maybe not for my target audience. They did have a build your own assorted box as another option, which I took as hedge. generally allowed me to pick my own. They had a 4, 12, and 24 truffle option-that's a big jump; I was hoping for a 6 or maybe a 9 pack, but that's what they had. I decided to just say 'why not' and went with the big 24 truffle option. The price was fairly hefty, but not far out of the realm, but I thought the truffles themselves were fairly small. I also walked about with their potato chip and pretzel and their strawberry and cream bar, which was definitely harder to swallow price wise. At 9 bucks a bar, the two bars, and the boxes, my walkout total came out to almost 200 bucks, and they had a tip option, which I found unusual. I did enjoy their truffles better than their bars, especially for the price.

When you walk into the store, the smell of chocolate immediately hits your olfactory bulb. The personable service you get from the staff and owner is welcoming. The Asian-inspired flavors are fantastic taste, and you can tell the love behind the product.

Pho flavored chocolate truffle! Very savory and umami. The ganache tastes just like pho!

Amazing hand-made chocolate treat's inspired by SE Asia! Socola has been one of my go-to places for years for chocolate gifts and treats. Their selection of high quality chocolates that feature wildly imaginative flavor combinations satisfies an adventurous appetite. I mean, where else would you find sriracha, pho or durian flavored chocolates? You can tell how passionate these folks are by the quality and freshness of their products. Coupled with their tasteful and elevated packaging, this place is amazing for gifts. Even if the recipient of said gift is oneself. Some notable favorites are their truffles (durian, pho, and Vietnamese coffee are my favorites) and the (new!) Durian King Bar. I highly recommend the Durian King Bar to all my fellow durian lovers! The bar is a creamy combination of milk chocolate and durian, where they are perfectly balanced; each flavor is distinct but neither overpowers the other. The truffles are hard shelled with nicely tempered chocolate that offers a satisfying snap upon biting into and the fillings are fresh and flavorful. To all chocolate lovers, I highly recommend taking a trip to Socola. The people who work here are passionate about the products they offer, are friendly and inviting, and their selection of chocolate goodies will definitely make your sweet tooth happy.

This tiny chocolate shop is simple yet the product is delicious. The chocolates are decadent, rich and mouth watering. They are rich and are meant to be savored and enjoyed, it is like a little journey that you are on and you do not want it to end. The shop of course smells amazing and you would want to buy every single flavor becasue they are that good. The chocolate are rather small in size, it is a small square.

    Thank you Socola

Everything from the ordering process to the payment, to delivery was outstanding. Prices are great and don't get me started on all the wonderful flavors. Sisters, Wendy and Susan know what they are doing. I enjoy how they branded my chocolates and made my executive and her guests feel warm and fuzzy. My go-to chocolates for gift giving.

    Michael W.

Some really great & creative fine chocolates! Recchiuti gets a lot of the buzz among the fine chocolate scene here, but I thought Socola was just as amazing. The flavors were all deep, rich, & complex, and I found myself enjoying all of the tea infused flavors even though I don't like tea! They were all so good, I don't know which was my favorite, but make sure to savor every bite because they go quick! Makes for a great gift or just a treat for yourself if you're looking for a fun chocolate treat!

    Kristen S.

Daring and delicious. My personal favorite is the sriracha flavor. I thought it'd be an apologetic attempt at "spicy" but I was happy to be proven wrong. It was a curious combination of flavors, completely unexpected, yet utterly pleasant. Bravo!

Ever since I was heading to Sue's Kitchen last other Monday during less than half an hour of my lunchtime, I was waiting for long to have a matcha latte from Sue herself. But what I hadn't realized was that the new ramen bar with a new name replaced most of what's matcha: latte and desserts. Bummer! Just when I walked to the next street to look for a café that sells matcha, voila! Couldn't walk back to my workplace just yet. Socola Chocolatier and Barista was one place where I finally got my matcha fix. The owner, Wendy, and her staff of baristas, or matcha baes, had treated me well upon my visit. After I had my matcha latte in my used mug, her staff member was friendly enough to have me sample a small piece of 100% unsweetened dark chocolate bar after asking anyone or Wendy if they have one. As for my matcha with oat milk, unsweetened as well. Dig it! Not much time nor thought about the atmosphere; let alone good customer service. It's good to have another chocolatier in Folsom st of SoMa. If you like drinks or treats unsweetened, Socola has what you desire.

Yet more beautiful AND delicious chocolates!

Is the cafe open? Miss their drinks and latte art 😅

Hi there! Unfortunately we no longer offer coffee drinks. Please come visit for some chocolate & confections inspired by the diverse flavors of Vietnam.

How long do the truffles keep fresh for? Would they still be fresh after 3 weeks?

There is a "Devour by" date on the back of the box. We do not use preservatives so we recommend eating within the 3 week timeframe.

I had no idea what to order because the menu wasn't conspicuous to virginal visitors. Only later did I notice the drink menu on the left wall. I decided to order the $6.75 Frozen Hot Chocolate because it frankly reminded me of the decadent monstrosities at the legendary Serendipity 3 in Manhattan's Midtown East (Photo 8). I booked about a week in advance which I would definitely advise - these tours fill up! I was the only non-local attendee so it seems like Dandelion is best known within the city. The tour was great - our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the chocolate making process and made the experience fun! We learned about cacao beans and even got to taste the cacao fruit - which was interesting. We then went through the whole process from bean to bar and walked through the factory which was a really neat experience. There were lots of samples along the way which I enjoyed. One of the chocolate makers gave us a sneak peak of an upcoming chocolate bar! The area is spacious and there was a lot of standing - so something to be mindful of if you sign up for a tour. We ended the tour in the front room where we were treated to a free hot chocolate to end our experience. The front room also had a section of samples of their current chocolate offerings. I was happy to try them all before selecting my to-go chocolate for the ride home. I opted for the Mexican hot chocolate and it was spicy and delicious. On my way out, I saw a group arrive for a chocolate-making class so it seems like they have a bunch of different class options! I would certainly come back here for a class or to show the tour to friends and family.

It was fascinating and educational to learn about the craft of chocolates from fruit to beans to the chocolate bar, and to get to chocolate taste along the way. Their work is inspiring-adding minimal ingredients to their chocolate bars so that the flavors of the cacao beans shine naturally from where they originate. After the tour, we tried the hojicha hot chocolate, the celebration cake, and the matcha cookie. For the hojicha hot chocolate, the tea flavor was subtle, but good chocolate. The celebration cake was what we expected-glad it wasn't overly sweet so that cocoa is more pronounced, but it also wasn't too rich; I felt the chocolate here in some sense lacked depth. The matcha cookie was my favorite-a cake texture matcha exterior encasing a denser brownie-like chocolate core - a delicious combo! Last thoughts to prep for the experience if you tour- 1.) Eat before you go on the tour-sampling chocolate means you do get caffeinated, and you'll likely purchase more chocolate (more caffeine!) after :) 2.) Included with the tour is a complimentary chocolate drink of choice at the end, in case you were pondering whether to buy the hot chocolate or not ;) 3.) Dandelion Chocolate products are pricey but quality. Paying the price feels like it's appreciation of their art. If you love chocolate, it's a wonderful place to visit at least once!
