Our family first discovered Teuscher years ago during a trip to Boston, and we instantly fell in love with the chocolate. Living in Denver, we rarely get the chance to visit one, so whenever we're in a city with a Teuscher location, it's practically mandatory for us to stop by. This time happened to be San Francisco, where we once again stocked up on their incredible assortment of dark chocolates. Our absolute favorite, hands down, is the dark chocolate pistachio -- rich, smooth, and dangerously addictive. Now, fair warning: this place isn't cheap. But you truly get what you pay for. The quality is unmistakably premium, and every piece feels thoughtfully crafted rather than mass-produced. The San Francisco shop itself is charming and inviting, and the staff has always been warm, friendly, and happy to help guide you through the selection. To be totally honest, I completely get the art of good chocolate and unique offerings like this place amongst a sea of mass produced stuff. This place just didn't hit that "it" factor for me to make me see why I would come here instead of Sees candie. Maybe I am unrefined or maybe the premium for the product here isn't just doing it for me. The quality and consistency just missed the mark for me. For what's it's worth I'm more than happy with venchi and laderach and will always pay that premium. There's even a small unknown German chocolate shop in the mountains in Washington state that I happily indulge in and pay the premium price. This place missed that mark for me. Just my opinion. Im a stickler for customer service and feeling welcome when I walk into an establishment for the first time. I saw this little place as I arrived to town and I wanted so much to see it and buy some Swiss Chocolates. So as soon as I walked in with a smile on my face, the person behind the counter walked away and looked at me and looked away and did not greet me, did not smile, did not ask if I needed help, did not address me for anything and let me just say I was the only person in that whole in the wall store. So I guess he did not want to sell anything or deal with anyone at that moment. Wow how Teuscher has fallen! I remember getting chocolates here decades ago and it was a very special treat. While you can now get Swiss chocolate at Trader Joe's / Whole Foods that tastes fundamentally the same, Teuscher of course has bespoke truffles and other pieces of chocolate art. ... For over $150 per pound!! Up from $100 only a few years ago!! That's not inflation, that's oil-oligarchy-level greed!! (A high-end CA supplier was $50/lb when Teuscher was $100/lb). And the service today is strictly incompetent arrogance. First I was becried for noticing the scale's price setting, and then next a phantom $20 bar was added to my invoice (some sort of marzipan completely unlike anything in my physical order) and the manager had to be called in to fix things. And this is a rough area now! Many of the neighboring storefronts are vacant. And after leaving this time, I was chased for over a block by some crazy guy who wanted a fight and was spitting all over the place. Called 911 and of course an officer never showed. Luckily the guy left after a few other people started yelling at him. At the end of the day, you can get nice truffles in nearby grocery stores or other SF boutiques for much less money. And if you want criollo, burnt caramel, or other creative stuff, Teuscher doesn't have it (and never really did). Swiss chocolate will always be a classic, but this particular Teuscher location is one to forget. read more

While walking by the store, I decided to buy a choice of 4 individual chocolates. I should've eaten them right away because I would've returned three of them after consuming the first one. The chocolate was absolutely stale and dry. I have been to Switzerland and Austria, and of course have consumed quite a few chocolates during my visit. I enjoy chocolate and I'm sorry I was not a fan of the variety of chocolate bon bons we got. They sell everything behind the glass by weight. I was in the store for a while and the chocolate covered dried apricots had several fruit flies flying around them (and landing on them) fyi. The dark chocolate ganache bon bon melted like butter at first but then it had a grainy/sandy texture. The champagne bon bon did have a champagne taste but it was just okay. The hazelnut crunch bon bon had a nice crunch to it but I still didn't like it. There's a high caliber of chocolatiers and bean to bar places in the city and these did not stand out in my opinion. read more

We all know about those overpriced "boxed chocolates"..See's candies...Godiva...whatever. I don't want to burst anyones bubbles, but this is quite a different type of place. As a Swiss chocolate, Teuscher SF is a location that is one in a few in the US. I'm super glad we have one. Top favorites/popular are the Champagne truffles and orange slices. Might I suggest trying something new. Just saying "I don't like that" even though you haven't experienced that flavor doesn't make ANY sense. 5 star is an understatement for a chocolate store like this. Quality/taste is unique here. Very expensive chocolate shop. You can choose between prepackaged candies or make your own mix. But at about $4 to $5 per piece, I'm not too impressed. People go crazy for the champagne truffles but they tasted pretty average to me so I was glad they allowed me to have a sample. Customer service is nice enough but I think my taste buds are not discerning enough to appreciate these truffles. I'm satisfied with those Costco or Lindt truffles so maybe I'm the wrong person to be reviewing this. read more

Teuscher is hands down the best chocolate shoppe in the world. I'm so happy we have a location here in SF, as there are so few around the world. A bit pricey, but I'd go to almost any length for good chocolate. Every now and then they have these cognac grape chocolates which are my fave along with the marzipan bars. Omg, I could go on and on. Boy, do I miss visiting SF. Here is the pistachio truffle! One of my favorite things to do in SF is explore the streets by foot while munching on something. A delicious Swiss truffle seems like a good way to go. My little bag of goodies also had other truffles like the milk chocolate truffle and the dark chocolate truffle. VERY expensive! Dangerously delicious and you get what you pay for, but it is not cheap. My favorite is the Florentine, and the orange slice are awesome. The Honeycrunch has a nice, nutty texture, and I doubt you could go wrong. NOT a regular indulgence, but Teuscher is delicious. Teuscher chocolate is one of the chocolate brands I have not been able to check out when I was in Zürich, Switzerland. Fortunately, there is a location in San Francisco so I am glad I am able to check this out beyond the Lindt, Toblerone, and Läderach. In Switzerland, these chocolate pieces are still quite pricey at around $1.80-2.50 per piece, but the more significant premium from importing makes this not as well worth the price as I hoped. The chocolate pieces are just so small, and you can easily indulge in a few pieces, costing over $10 easily. Regardless, the chocolate here is really good. The filling inside is smooth and sweet, though there is not really a strong champagne flavor inside. The blend of flavors as you take a small bite makes this chocolate more enjoyable than the standard chocolate squares you get in places like Ghirardelli. read more

LUX CHOCO FIX PIT SHOPPING STOP ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RIght at the Border of SF LUX & Chinatown CHEAP! When you are on the go doing manic shopping in the Union Square area, you can get a fine Truffle Choc fix either here, right down the street from the Union Square Hyatt & next to the wonderful Lang's Antique Jewelry, or go all the way to the nearest Godiva store (near Bloomies). Full disclosure is that I am a loyal Godiva addict who sends great gifts to one & all. Godiva is smart enough to have a club. The perks include a free Truffle each month if you go to a store. They will also send you a 30-40 piece freebie box, if you purchase enough gifts from them for your friends, relatives, and business connections. Since I doubt that Teuscher has such deals, I do tend to favor Godiva, but I will not walk a mile both ways just to get a free Truffle....unless I am at Bloomies mall & food court anyway. This little Teuscher shop has great service with a smile. The Truffles are the best bet. I tried the Champagne, & two other liquor filled ones...all quite tasty....and will give you the buzz to keep on shopping. Other buzz worth foods are the nearby Macaroons along with some good Coffee (at the great La Boulange de Sutter). They also serve yummy sandwiches too! Forget the crappy Starbucks on the next corner....boring! They are as good as Godiva, but I have yet to do nor desire a side to side comparison. It's green and can't describe well what it looks like. The texture of the green part is very very soft and tastes... "inquiring" but really do enjoy it. Must be the marzipan which is like sugar and almond meal. Second thought, I REALLY LIKE THIS. And the plum has a pretty strong taste of Brandy. WOW what a delcious expensive piece of whatever it is. WHITE CHOCOLATE PISTACHIO - this is the tiniest of the three and its a light spring green color. you can never go wrong with pistachio. the chocolate is so light and nutty and smooth, it's so damn divine. it makes me feel as if i'm swimming in a pool of white chocolate. i've had Switzerland chocolate in many occassions (never paid for it because its 'pasalubong' from family/friends) and THIS is how smooth i remember Switzerland chocolate.
