This has taken me 7 months to write. I'm including some details for reference. Christopher Abernathy has no patience for anyone who is unfamiliar with how the law works. I was in a very bad place discovering that my husband had taken 29 years of my Social Security, had 3 different EIN #'s for our one business and hidden bank accounts. I left our 4200 square foot home to live in a one bedroom rental with a lady and her daughter for two years and my husband stayed in our home which his new girlfriend eventually bought. In that two years my husband didn't share any of "our" business income with me. I had to take out three loans to survive. I started this business ( my idea and creativity ) with my husband in 1990. My husband never put me on the tax returns. So, I couldn't even fight for our home which I put the deposit on from a lucrative stunt career before we were married. Abernathy told me more than once that our company is is my ex husbands according to him and our tax returns and, I, according to the government, was a stay at home wife with no job. I was actually the creator, director, talent searcher, choreographer and costumer for our acrobatic company. My husband did all the handling of contracts, money, airfare hotel and equipment rigging. I needed serious help and Mr Abernathy treated me so rudely and was very condescending. He seemed to get frustrated that I struggled with understanding certain things. At one point he made a rude comment that I was always leaving a ridiculous amount of emails which shocked me so I sent him copies of all my emails to him and his assistant which at the time totaled 13 in 5 months; 4 of which were to him. He did apologize for that, though. I think he was confusing me with another client. I was already overwhelmed enough with all these new discoveries of my ex ( I really had no idea he had been stealing from me all these years. I had to learn that his abuse was very subtle and difficult to detect ) My husbands goal was to have me take our new circus school which netted $7,000 in 2017 ) and he would take our 30 year business which grossed anywhere from $175,000 to $250,000 a year but my ex lied on the tax returns ( another thing I was unaware of ) claiming that it made $60,000 a year. We lived on the Redlands Country Club for 30 years you can't do that on $60,000. I felt like I was treated like I should just give up my business and be happy to get the school. Mr Abernathy was so mean spirited and demeaning towards me that it became an additional stress that was so overwhelming that I made a decision that getting away from this man and my ex was the best thing for me. I hired a "Financial Divorce Lawyer" that helped me to come to this decision. I even refused spousal support so as not to have ANY contact with my ex given it would only be a couple of hundred dollars according to Abernathy. I had all the proof I needed to prove that our company made much more money, but the Forensic accountant that Abernathy recommended doubled his price. At that time I know the best thing was just to take my losses and try to focus on expanding my studio circus school. I do not recommend Christopher Abernathy to anyone who prefers an attorney who comes across supportive involved and friendly. It was as if he kept forgetting my case. I was under the impression he was good according to his ratings. But later when I came back and read his lower ratings, things made more sense. I never felt that he had my back and that in many cases he literally worked against me. In court he even ask my ex if he was okay with me starting my own circus performing troupe even though it wasn't illegal for me to do so given he didn't "buy" the company from me. He knew I didn't want my ex to know this. It was just unnecessary. Weird. He also made jokes and pleasant remarks to my husbands attorney in court. I thought that was a bit strange too. read more

I want to start out by saying that I have been in an almost constant battle with my ex-husband for almost ten years. When you are a single mom trying to protect your children you want the best and Chris is the best. I wouldn't want to be represented by anyone else. My case was complicated. My husband and his family were willing to lie, and pull out every dirty trick in the book repeating the same cycle of divorce, abusive behavior and not taking financial responsibility for innocent children that they had all propagated throughout the years. I was shocked at how well he was able to maneuver the court and destroy some false allegations that the other side had made in an effort to get more money (child support). I was a severe underdog in my case all I can tell you is I hope more people find Mr. Abernathy first before they get bled dry from the Attorney, Ex, or just a divorce in general.
