We had a small family reunion here last night and I just cannot say enough about the awesome experience! Our reservation was for 8:45pm and we arrived early and check in with hostess who informed us we were early. I was concerned about the night because I felt like no matter I stood, I was in someone's way. But from the moment we sat down, the evening was smooth and my family was cared for at each moment. This is a place that everyone should try... That being said it is not a place that you want to be dressed like your going to TX roadhouse or you might feel out of place. Awesome place for a special occasion! I've gone for lunch and brunch (weekends 11-2pm) and both menus are great. Service is very professional, and they always ask whether we are celebrating a special occasion (they'll usually decorate your dessert accordingly). The in house olive tapenade is an awesome starter with bread. Everything on the menu is amazing and cooked perfectly to your specification (filet, fish, scallop, etc.). Their desserts are awesome, BUT their in house vanilla ice cream is DIVINE. I've gotten this on its own for dessert as well as accompanying another dessert :) Ambiance is very casual upscale - cool booths and a piano room. Also their cocktails are amazing! The flavors are good, but coming in from a bigger city, I find the bang-for-buck value a little low compared to some other comparably priced scenes in Dallas. I've eaten at some truly wonderful restaurants, but sadly I can say that Christopher's is one of them. I've dined at Christopher's twice now and it is twice I've left broken hearted. My first experience was on my 27th birthday. I had the crab cake as an appetizer, which was decent. For my entree, I ordered the special that night, stuffed salmon with a seafood stuffing, only to be disappointed. Dessert however, was wonderful!! I has the fruit tarte with the white chocolate mousse. The chef delivered it and wrote happy birthday Lauren on the plate. Very nice. Second visit... My boyfriend and I went for brunch. He had the eggs Benedict and I had chicken matalazan (spelling?). His plate look put together well. I didn't taste, but he said it was good. Mine was good, but there were so many thinks going on with the plate. I had a chicken breast, which was very moist and tender, with a Parmesan crust, chihuahua cheese on top, with pico and avocado. The other half of my plate was spinach, mashed potatoes, and mashed sweet potatoes. I felt like it was half soul food and half Mexican. We did order the Brie as an appetizer and it was pretty amazing. On the up side, if you have a big appetite, the plates are hearty. Food was awesome but felt rushed. Our waitress did not let us enjoy our dinner or our visit. I understand that they need to move tables but they real rushed us too fast. Especially when a dinner for cost us 200.00. They removed the bread before we finished our 1st slice with out asking if we were done. We had apps, dinner and dessert within an hour. This restaurant is way out in the middle of nowhere it seems. But it is in an old historic house! That is cool! The food was good. (Mostly steak and potatoes type of food. We came here for my mothers birthday dinner. Our waiter Damon was amazing! The food and managers... not so much. My mom had the ceaser salad which was so yummy! My crab cake was just your average cake. My brother had the shrimp bisque and said it was just okay. It took over 40 mins for my mom and brother to get their refills on their wine. When our main course finally came all of our food was cold. My brother got the fish special (ahi tuna) it was severely over cooked to the point that we questioned if it was even tuna, I ordered the wagyu steak special and it was offensive. Wagyu steak should never be chewy and I felt like I was eating dubble bubble. The only good thing about the steak was the salt they put on top of it. My mother is highly allergic to shell fish and she requested that her steak not have any on it. What do they do? Gave her a HUGE serving of crawfish on top. The only highlight of the night was our amazing server who tried to make the dinner as enjoyable as possible. Overall a very bad experience and would never recommend this place to anyone. I grew up in the area and have lived all over the world since. Christopher's is great for the area and excels in some areas but leaves much to be desired. In my opinion, it's ambition and prices are "too big for its britches". The crab cake was delicious as was the olive tapenade. The Cajun fondue was mediocre at best, with no real discernible flavor, just a melted pot of "stuff" . The toasted buttered bread served with it were also bland. Four of us at my table ordered the Delmonico; I ordered mine medium rare. When the steaks came, mine was medium. It was noticeably cooked more than my brother's (his was true medium rare as he ordered) and even more than my sister's (ordered medium and cooked correctly). The waitress took mine back and then the manager came and tried to tell me it was medium rare. He asked if I wanted it rare. I said, no just medium rare. He said, my steak was medium rare. I had to convince him that I knew what medium rare was. Ive never had to do this in a "quality" restaurant. It was my birthday dinner on top of it so it put me off even more. Apparently, other patrons have had similar experiences with the manager (based on other reviews). Everyone was done with their meal when my corrected steak came out. The second steak was cooked even more. I had a few bites and got the rest boxed. No one asked if this one was better. The server, Melissa, was nice. The manager was not and gave me a used car salesman vibe. I will not be recommending Christopher's to anyone that has an experienced palate and a taste of good service for place that charge those prices. It's a shame because the ambiance was nice, minus the poor acoustics which make things seem loud. read more

Brought a large group here for a conference, and Christopher's exceeded expectations once again. Various tastes such as vegan were well catered for. The starters that appeared on all tables were very nice...spring rolls and baked brie. The salads were perfectly fresh, nice mix of greens, and perfectly dressed (not too much or too little). The mains were all basic "classics" of some type: filet, chicken cordon blue, salmon. All were very nice. Wine selection continues to improve, though still remains behind Veritas and The Republic. The new private function room is very nice, albeit rather ostentatious. Not sure if they relaxed their alleged dress code, or never actually had one in the first place, but a number of our party were dressed very casually and not given the slightest grief for it. I really want to like this place, but every time I go the food is just subpar. I keep coming back because the menu always has unique items, but for me they are not executed well. What I remember from my last visit is that my boyfriends spinach was so salty he couldn't eat it and the duck quesadilla was just gross. I will say the ambiance and the service are always great. However, I was taken back when I received the check and the tip was already included even though it was only two of us. I know this is common in Europe, but I've never seen it done in here. My advice, if you really want a higher end meal just drive to a bigger city. read more

As many have said, this is one of the best fine dining places in the Bryan/CS area. My girlfriend and I had dinner here for a birthday celebration, and it was near perfect as far as restaurant experiences go. Every part of the meal was great. Especially recommend the Ginger beef tips (I think that was it) appetizer and for dessert the english toffee with guinness ice cream. The only thing I would consider a negative was our table location. We were placed in the piano/bar area. Being next to the piano was a big plus, set a very nice mood. However, trying to have a nice dinner for 2 ten feet away from a surprisingly hopping bar is not ideal. On the whole, it was a very positive experience. Amazing food and service. read more

Since we eat at Christopher's on a regular basis and not just an isolated special occasions my husband and I can give a more balanced viewpoint. Unfortunately bad things can happen at any restaurant so I would hate for people to miss out on this wonderful dining experience because someone had an isolated bad experience especially on one of their most popular dates such as Valentines. I have never gone for valentines and probably never will. I have traveled and dined all over the US and have rarely had a better meal both in the quality of the food and service.
