Oh so much better than I remembered from 30 years ago! Salsa is so good and fresh, it was served steaming. I tried the poblano soup, it was fantastic! It's a must try! I want to buy it by the gallon. The crab cakes are the best I have ever had! They are ginormous and almost pure crab (imagine that). The poblano sauce and jalapeño pesto are so good. It doesn't need them but it is all so flavorful. The slaw is amazing, I don't normally like coleslaw, but I will eat theirs. You have to finish your meal with a strawberry tart! Soooo good. They have a good happy hour and I can't wait to try brunch. So glad they are back and have items from Cafe Eccel. read more

The food was great. This service was very good and the prices were reasonable. It's easy to find and there's plenty of parking.

Three of us went today for happy hour and the bartender suggested the 30oz Ritas, stating that they are half price ($9 instead of $18) during happy hour. A manager later appeared and while I thought she was going to ask how the food and service was, she instead apologized that the bartender only works once a week and didn't know the 30oz Ritas are not half price and after saying 'sorry', she walked off. My bill was indeed over $60 instead of ~ $30. No 'the next round is full price' or anything. Mistakes happen, but we wouldn't have ordered those drinks had we known, and management needs some serious lessons in hospitality. So, here's a few sentences to warn you that this place will tell you drinks are half price and then charge you full price. read more

I have a sweet spot in my heart for this place because the service is good. Some items are to die for like the chicken and waffles on the weekend brunch menu. The waffle is crazy good and the best you will ever have but the chicken is not seasoned at all. I did tell the manager this, and they were apologetic and gave me a free waffle which definitely made me feel better. On Saturdays they have a tower mimosa for less than $25!!! That's crazy work!! Not sure how much it is, but ask for no ice. Not sure why they add ice to champagne because it's diabolical, but hey. ‍ The place itself is cute, with simple decor. This place is OUT OF THIS WORLD! I'm from California, so I know a thing or two about a good fish/shrimp taco. This place has the best fish and shrimp tacos that I've had so far in Texas. Fish is fried crispy to perfection, and so flakey and buttery. They also have great drinks and often run deals. I love this place!! Service is also always phenomenal. The soft pretzel is craaaaaaazy good. The tacos and queso were awesome for sure and our waiter was lovely. But the soft pretzel!!! Nice and crispy on the outside without being burnt. Not too salty. Extremely fluffy and soft on the inside. I cannot recommend it highly enough. read more

The food is like it used to be at the original location. Every recipe is like I remember it, but with new additions that seamlessly blend into the menu and flavors. The menu has changed. They no longer have the same brunch menu. There are only 4 items and no orange juice (only in cocktails). I was very disappointed but kept an open mind. This is one of my new favorite restaurants by my house. So far, I've tried their shrimp burrito, crispy shrimp taco, calamari taco, chips and salsa, the Paloma, and the strawberry tart. I hate to say this because I loved the original on Church Street. I have been to this location several times since Mad Taco closed at this same south College Station location. The tacos at this place were once consistently known to be tasty and kind of unique, which was nice. The drinks from the bar used to be consistent and good. The only negative was the fact that they have crappy/cheap Boots soft drinks. But the food more than made up for that, and you could always order a margarita or beer. But, each time my family and I have visited in recent months (2025) the quality of the service has dropped down another notch time after time, especially since they changed up things from ordering at a main walk up station and instead have their overwhelmed wait staff take your order, which is more than what these people seem to have been trained for. Each time I've been here in last few months the waitress has screwed up at least once every time. Last night was the last time I will be visiting La Bodega, which is a shame. The waitress screwed up the food order (as usual). Guacamole was overloaded with cilantro and we could only stand to wince through about 3 chip fills. The Sangria-Margarita was uncharacteristically lousy - I could only stand two sips. But the waitress never came by to ask how anything was because she was overwhelmed by too much work and probably the fact that it apparently was also "crazy loud Karaoke night" (at 7pm??) with a sound system that overloaded the small size of the restaurant. We also had to go looking for silverware and napkins after our food was unprofessionally dropped off at our table, since there was none on the table and any utensils delivered when we got seated. Overworked bartender finally brought us our $100 tab. I Paid it along with a deserving crap-level tip, and we left to go find dinner someplace else. It's a shame because this has always been a unique locally run brand. I hope they do okay without any more of my business. read more

I loved my stockyard taco, lots of flavor and a nice spice. The potato and steak go well together. The rice and beans are also tasty. I did not care for the queso. Both the texture and taste were unpleasant, very EZ melt but with a sour taste. The salsa and guacamole were good, but I wish the onions were cut smaller in the guac. The chips are tasty and the portion size was good. The service was friendly and all food was accurate. The drive thru was fast. I like that they use recycled containers. So so excited that La bodega is back!! i have memories of la bodega in college and so it's so great having their food again- I do wish there were complimentary chips and salsa like there were back in the day at their old location.... The inside still feels like mad taco in a way since the setup is the same but they have done a great job in renovating it- it's a tad confusing because you order up front but then you pay the waiter at the end- perhaps if you had chips and salsa you were served, it would feel more like a typical mexican/taco place. I always try to pay at the front because that's what makes the most sense. Anyways, tacos are on point- i have tried many of them and they have all been great- my favorites are the fried fish and the raw taco- also, the calamari is tasty, the ceviche is great too- i wish they didn't use Velveta for the their queso which it seems like they do just based on the flavor. their watermelon salad is huge and is tasty. The kids burger is large! wish it had some sort of side with it like fruit or something but it's still a good deal. We really love having this place so close to home and will be visiting frequently to try more! read more

We visited La Bodega right after it opened last spring. It was so close to their recent opening that Apple Maps directed us to Church Street (original location decades ago). At the time, we ordered at the counter and were served at our table. Back in town this weekend, we made La Bodega our last stop before returning home. Now full table service, and the food is as delicious as we remembered, from both our recent visit and my numerous visits to other Cafe Eccell concepts over the decades. We started with the OG Queso, thicker than most quesos these days. It's definitely the OG, but my tastes have evolved and I prefer thinner white queso now, which they also have, so I will order it next time. The salsa was served warm and had a pleasant smoked flavor. Delicioso! Our party of four ordered the breakfast taco plate with smashed black beans and papas (thinly sliced perfectly fried potato wedges), a breakfast quesadilla, a Greco taco on corn tortilla, and a breakfast taco. The two of us who ordered a full meal needed a to go box. We rounded out our meal with my favorite dessert in the history of the world, a strawberry tart for there and one to go (praying it makes it home safely). They are as good now as they were in 1990 at Cafe Eccell, when you had to order one as you sat down in fear of them being out at the end of your meal. We wished we weren't driving home because the Bloody Mary and Mimosa bars looked incredible. So many possibilities, so little time. Next time, La Bodega! read more

I remember La Bodega from my days at grad school when it was in North Gate. It was consistently tasty food and always a good experience. Pros: This new Baja Grill version has a nice patio and bar, but lacks the charm of the original. My food was reminiscent of the original which was nice. I had the sushi taco and the Greek beef taco. They were both very good, especially the sushi (rare tuna) one. The prices were decent for fresh food like that in my opinion. And the staff were friendly. Cons: So this is a "order at the counter" style place and then someone brings your food to your table identifying you by the number you hang from the stand on the table. They only have their versions of soft drinks which just feels cheap to me. I'd like the name brand version especially since I'm likely paying for it and not a cheap proprietary wannabe version. The place is designed as a walk up and order at the counter, with self serve drinks. For example, the beers were in a little mini fridge where you order. And the soda fountain was there as well. They did have a nice looking bar where they make mixed drinks. I was surprised after I ordered and the woman told me I don't pay when you order. Instead you take a number to your table and at the end of your meal you pay your "server". I suppose this setup works well if you're there to drink a lot, but having a server where you had to order at a counter is odd. Choose one or the other. Either it's order at the counter, pay and either pick up your food up yourself when your # is up or have a food runner bring it to your table, but having a server who essentially does next to nothing is superfluous. Also, though it's called a "taco bar" and I realize the young women working there are likely college students and are trying to make tips, but their uniform T-shirts and shorts kinda gave me a Hooters vibe which meh, not my thing (although the young woman helping us was wearing a jacket so she wasn't overly exposed in any way). Please don't misunderstand, our "server" was attentive and sweet, but also really just another person that you feel obliged to tip. Lastly our bill was right at $50 for 2 people. Our food was served with plastic forks in plastic baskets. I mean, come on. If we're going to dine in at and you're going to make us tip a server that is not necessary then at least provide real metal utensils. To sum it up. La Bodega Baja Taco Bar has decent food for a strip center restaurant, but they need to decide what they want to be... either a restaurant where you sit down and a server takes your order and offers value to your experience or a bar where you order your food at a counter, help yourself to the (self serve, soda stream rip off) drink machine, pick up your own food that you eat using cheap plastic utensils.
