This review is exclusively to warn you against having LUIS cut your hair. I like Luis as a person, and was long ago happy with his cut and styling. I stopped going to him a year ago as he cut my hair ever so short, it took me 8 weeks to recover. My mistake, I thought I would trust him one more time. I was so BUTCHERED, in length, style, AND he thinned half my hair off. And, it's a horrible cut! I've cancelled my holiday plans, yet still have to show up for work. It will take months to recover, especially because it is so thin, and much thinner on one side. read more

Chroma is a lovely salon, very peaceful and mellow. I felt relaxed and happy after my appointment, which is a nice contrast to the noise and stress of other places I've tried. They provide complimentary tea and neck massages and I felt pampered even for just a haircut and style. All of the staff were very nice and considerate and their range of products is excellent and reasonably priced especially for the quality. I look forward to making this my regular salon. read more

I was in hair purgatory after a bad color at another salon and had a second salon attempt to fix. Total of $450 later, I left it alone for a few months until yesterday when I realized how awful it looked. I was getting ready to start a new job so I definitely needed a fix. Jessica to the rescue! I called at 10:05 and she had an opening at 10:30. I hurried up the hill and was pleasantly greeted by Jessica who offered me tea or water. I told her my hair horror story, and showed her the picture of what I was looking for. She really asked a lot of questions during the consultation to make sure we both had the same vision. Away she went to painting balayage highlights through my hair. We had some fun conversations too!!! It was a 3 hour service and when I saw the results, I was soooooo thrilled! I FINALLY got the look I have been trying to achieve all year! The pricing for the service was incredibly reasonable. I feel like a rock star! Just moved into the area and needed to keep up my blonde locks! Found this place by the location and reviews - they got me a Saturday appointment right away! That's hard to find. Drew was so excited to work on me and give me exactly what I wanted! He kept saying how much he loves long, blonde hair so I felt like I was in great hands! He was the fastest foiler I've ever seen! I hate sitting in the chair for 3+ hours processing so this was definitely a plus. The Aveda products made my hair look soft and shiny and not as "bleachy/crunchy" blonde as some will...I love my lighter look and will definitely go back! I've been to see Jessica at Chroma twice now. The first time was for a trim and basic restyle on my long, straight hair. She was super nice, and friendly. She listened and then translated it in to haircut terms well. I felt confident in using her to cut off my hair (to be donated) when the time came. I just got back from that big "chop" which resulted in almost 15 inches of hair to now be in a padded envelope on its way to Locks of Love. Jessica was once again so wonderful. She listened, looked at pictures of styles I liked, made recommendations based on those, my hair, and the level of "work" I want to put in to my hair on a regular basis. We debated bangs and she said let's get the rest of the cut done and then we can leave it or add them. At the end of the already longer than normal appointment (she spent almost 1.5 hrs total with me!) I decided I did want bangs, so she took even more time to create that look for me. She also said that with such a drastic cut, if in the next few days or few weeks I decide I want something changed a little bit (bangs shorter, more bangs, something isn't lying right), to just come on in and she'd get it done no charge. I mean wow! I'm super happy with the cut and with my experience. If I ever leave Seattle, I'm kidnapping her :). I know she also does men's hair, as a poor guy was waiting for me to finish up (sorry, man!). They also serve really delicious hot tea. read more

Today I had my first appointment with master stylist Luis and I highly recommend him! Luis is the kind of stylist you dream of meeting. He has a sparkling personality, he's very professional and he is an absolute genius. Luis is the type of stylist you can trust to give you the perfect haircut, because he's very intuitive and he obviously cares about precision and detail. He was able to give me a cut with very little guidance that is perfect for my lifestyle and "difficult" hair type. He gave me exactly the type of classic bob that I was hoping to get. I can't say enough wonderful things about Chroma and Vincent! After reading so many great reviews, I went in for a cut/balayage/full color and couldn't be happier. I like to keep my hair long and it's been awhile since I've had a cut so it was a bit dreary - Vincent brought it back to life with great layers and a healthy trim. I will not be returning to this salon. Rachel gave me layers that will take a ton of time to grow out. I asked for a trim. If you want to go to somebody who takes carte blanche on your hair she may be a good fit. Also, while she is cutting your hair she turns you away from the mirror so you can't see what she is doing. 200 bucks out the window and at least a year to grow out the layering that I specifically didn't ask for. I left and my hair wasn't even so I had to go to somebody else to even it out on top of everything else. I really hate writing this because I'm not the type to write these kinds of reviews but in this case I think it's warranted. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Jessica's for over a year and a half. When she switched over to Chroma, I didn't hesitate to follow. Jessica listens to what you want and on the rare occasion it's not exactly what you want, she will do whatever it takes to make it perfect for you. I have seen Jessica for highlights, cuts-both dramatic and subtle, for countless bang trims, blow outs, and for special events. She never disappoints me, and everytime I leave there, I can't wait to go back. Jessica believes in the whole experience from start to finish, and that is something I really value. Not all hairdressers treat you like you're at a spa when you're getting a haircut but Jessica pays attention to every detail and is attentive to your needs and your level of relaxation. Love this place! First of all, you get a little more than a haircut, which is appreciated considering the going rate these days. A little neck massage with aromatherapy oils. An extended shampoo. Unlimited (delicious!) herbal tea and water. It was a really relaxing experience. And my cut with Alexandra was awesome. I wanted something low maintenance, no blowdry even needed (new mom). A mama of a one month old, this was my first spa time since I had my baby. I came to have a blow dry and do a conditioning treatment. What I ended up with was more greasy hair that I came up with, no volume (worst that the day I gave birth to my daughter after 72 hours of labor!) Luis did the conditioning treatment on my roots, and although he rinsed my hair, they were just to greasy to do anything. I only noticed it 20 min in the blow dry, as my chair was not facing the mirror. When I asked why it was so greasy, he told me that was because of the conditioning treatment as my hair were naturally greasy! ('You should not do conditioning treatment with your hair they are too greasy') I always had conditioning treatments in the past, and never had someone apply it on my roots, nor ended up like a greasy french fries after a hot summer afternoon! This is pretty basic, I don't have greasy hair I just have fine straight hair. Seeing that my hair were a mess, he started to use the CURLING iron to get a little bit of volume. I said please stop the massacre. I was ready to leave. Then he offered to fo a DRY shampoo! Finally he ended up doing another shampoo and start the blow dry all over. I lost 35 minutes of my time ( when you have a newborn waiting at home and you timed out her feedings, 35 min is a long time) Result of this 1h30 long blow dry: still greasy hair, no volume, artificial super tights curls that I did not ask for ( i asked for big beach waves). When I paid, the receptionist did not even asked me how was my service. Although my conditioning treatment was not charged, I will never go back to this place. Ladies, if you want a blow dry here, stay away! If I had knew this, i would have gone to my traditional hair stylist at Gene Juarez downtown. It would have take the same amount of time, but I would have been at least happy with the result. So I had lived in Queen Anne for over 5 years and just NOW discovered the best hair place in all of Seattle. Chroma salon is a classy place to get your hair done and I have to brag about both Sonia who does an amazing job on haircuts and Rachel, who is a colorist extraordinaire. Whether it was the kind way Dru brought me water, or the way they are so attentive when you first walk in. I felt instantly at home and because it's a 100% aveda shop, I knew that quality would be the salon's hallmark. I have really great curly hair but feel like it has gotten butchered at most of my times before the scissor. Not at Chroma, they managed to bring back all my natural curl, recommend I don't brush my hair and let it dry naturally and suggested anti frizz control which finally actually works. They were not a hurry up salon. Both Rachel and Sonia took their time to get my hair exactly how I wanted it. Situated next to this quirky bookstore/coffee shop the salon's actual building is set back from the road and the sign is pretty non descript in that you are not sure what they do until you walk up the steps and go inside. I asked if they did direct mail or email or other forms of advertising and they said they stay really busy entirely on word of mouth.. That's the mark of a great salon. You could tell by their clientele these were people who also cared about their hair to go to that secret place on the top of Queen Anne where everyone in the salon is a Hair Master! ; 0 Feeling like I stumbled upon some great order of hair masters, I am loving my blonde highlights and curly hair that doesn't frizz and I would recommend Rachel or Sonia to anyone. Rachel has taken my hair from dark brown to light blonde via monthly full foils from this past May 2018 through September. I am so happy with the quality of her work! She is a professional artist with flawless customer service. The Aveda products are great too, as is the conditioner treatment that I always get with the processing. My hair is strong, smooth and looks very natural as it gets close to baby blonde. The other staff at the salon do great work too, (I get to observe a lot of fun hair cuts and hair dyes while getting foils that can take over two hours.) Front desk staff are very sweet and efficient. No strong upsales, although I do like their products so I wouldn't mind their suggestions, especially the Aveda styling stuff which works really well. Overall a nice group of people work here and they are highly talented. Thank you to Rachel for finally getting me the blonde look that I have wanted to achieve for many years! read more
