Found this gem on Yelp! Desperately needed my hair done, looked at appts on a Thursday night and was able to get in Friday morning. Amazing. The salon was very clean and beautiful inside. I loved all the precautions in place. It made me feel really comfortable while getting my hair done. I sent in pictures to show the condition of my hair the day before. I knew my roots were grown out, but I figured the price would be ~$100 even though the website said "starting at $75." I was shocked to hear that after assessing my hair, it would cost $150 for the root touch-up. The color I have is just one shade lighter than my natural brown so I did not expect it. I just went with it. I booked with Ysenia. She was so sweet! She did a great job blending the color done from a previous salon and my roots. I was nervous that it would not flow but the color was done perfectly. I have since gotten compliments on it. I emailed Bowie Salon on a Monday (which is their day off) and was quickly greeted by Scott who graciously set up an appointment for me. He listened to my needs and gave me options for a stylist. The next day I went in and met the fabulous Frances. She was kind, super knowledgeable and skilled. My cut was like self therapy and Frances did a fantastic job with my thick and voluminous hair. This is honestly the first bad review I've ever written. I have spent the last couple weeks trying to communicate directly with Bowie salon and my stylist Karie but my experience has gone from bad, to worse, to inexcusable. New to Seattle, wanted my hair done for drivers license picture and birthday this month. Made the mistake of calling Bowie Salon, and they offered me a consultation. Went and paid $30 for a roughly 10 minute consultation with Karie. The appointment they offered me was 3 weeks away, one day before my license picture. (Note:Getting dmv appointments isn't easy these days!) Almost 3 weeks later I'm in the chair almost 10 minutes before Karie brought a piece of paper to sign with the price on it: $458 (minus the $30 from the consultation). I was shocked, but felt that I had no time left to figure out another solution in the next 24 hours. I also figured the job would be well done since I've never paid close to that, even at high end salons. Clearly I should have asked the cost before then but I have been to so many places I thought I had a rough idea. Either way they should have let me know ahead of time, since I came in for a consult. Also she said it would take multiple sessions to "fix" my hair. I now see that would be roughly $1,000- $1,500 for something I've had done in one session most of my life? Seems like a scam. Once the process was done I saw it didn't look right but figured I'd see it dry before panicking. Already over the 3 hr time she blocked for me, I asked if she was going to trim my hair. She told me she didn't know I wanted a haircut! Thought I'd made that clear when I was there the first time. Also never had someone bleach my hair and not want to at least trim it. She told me her next client was there so she wouldn't have time. She and another girl blow dried my hair and as I got up she asked if I liked it. I half heartedly smiled, I never had a chance to look at it. She ushered me to the front and they offered me a haircut the next day with a different stylist for $95. I asked if it would have been that much on top of my color today to which they replied "Karie is a master stylist and her haircuts are $115". I've been wondering if Karie would have alerted me to this before trimming my hair, had she had time. (Had she cut my hair the total would have been $573 BEFORE tip! Making the tip $114. That's $687 for a cut and color). I told the girl I would not like to make another appointment and I paid and left, feeling horrible. I tipped less than 20% which I would never normally do, hoping that at least my color was okay. When I got home I looked at it in the mirror and started crying !! My hair looked awful. Streaky, uneven, patchy, tacky..she only "felt comfortable" pulling the bleach part way through my hair, creating three clearly different colored sections. I could go on but the pictures I've attached speak for themselves. Friends (some of whom are hair stylists themselves) urged me to call Bowie immediately, I did. They told me I'd have to speak with Karie who was busy. She called me back the next day but I was busy. I called her back the next morning and she was busy. Next Wednesday it had been a week and my call was still unreturned. I called again, she called me right back. She gave me some cliche lines that she "cares about her work and wants her clients happy" but went on to argue with me. Saying things such as "you should know I did many foils I mean they were on YOUR head", "I didn't know you wanted a haircut, you said you were growing it out and haven't been good about getting consistent haircuts", and "if money was an issue you should have told me and I could have made you an appointment with one of our many other stylist for much cheaper". So you mean to say that I just happen to get the most expensive "master stylist" yet the salon felt no need to inform me of the price even though I came in ahead of time for a consultation. Based on Bowie Salons price list a full foil is $128+, but my "double foil" was $205 EACH. And I was just supposed to assume that? Had I loved my hair, things would be different. At the end of our short phone call Karie asked what I want done, and I said I'd like to send her the pictures and then talk about what to do. I sent them and NEVER GOT A RESPONSE. I called two times over the next week and was told she was busy. It's been 10 days since we spoke so it's clear she's just hoping I go away. After all this, how awkward (and unprofessional) would it be to have to go back to a stylist that did a terrible job on your hair and then argued with you about it ! At this point I really just would like to ask for my money back because it will take a lot more of my time and money to fix her work. But when I asked if I could speak to a manager or owner they said no I would have to deal with Karie. This entire situation has been a nightmare and I hope I can save someone else from experiencing what I have. read more

I came here for a special blowout and for full makeup by Shoka. Her sweet and delightfully attentive focus helped put me at ease. She gave a great shampoo and head massage. At the end upon my request she used a curling iron to give me the right volume I desired. The makeup was very elegant and subtle but just perfect. It was very beautiful. I've been coming for 8 years and Stacie has earned my blind trust. She helps me make decisions that are based on the long-term health of my hair, while still accommodating my desires. But at the same time, she knows me well enough to talk me out of crazy ideas. Thank GOD she convinced me not to dye my hair pink while I was in a depression. That was a quick phase that would have destroyed my hair. One thing I've learned in life is that you get what you pay for and Stacie is worth every penny. Her extensive experience in the industry has given her a wealth of knowledge and she acts as a mentor to everyone that works there. She believes in the Ritz Carlton hospitality experience for guests but she believes that it starts with training her staff. You caressed my hair with unprecedented care that I fell asleep. How dare you make me feel so relaxed! And how dare you greet me with such enthusiasm and friendliness even offered me delicious blueberry tea - not once but twice. Did that make me feel great? Hell yeah because I drove thru hail and traffic to see my favorite hair artist. She just had to ruin my day for delivering exactly what I asked for. I asked her to brighten my blonde and tone it (mostly because that's what other stylists have done) and she recommended that we instead lift it more and skip the toner because I'll be happy with it longer. She was 100% right. She gave me a beautiful bright, natural-looking blonde that didn't need any toner. I went to Bowie Salon and Spa for really meaningful makeover and overall felt jipped by the prices and my own inexperience in a hair salon. I have dark brown, uncolored, grown-out permed hair that was long. I asked for my perm to be cut off, but that I wanted to keep as much length as possible and I wanted a balayage/ombre hairstyle like is featured in the reviews below. I even went to the same hairdresser, Renee, to try and make sure that my results would be as I expected. Renee was kind and matter-of-fact about my hair, and infused me with FALSE TRUST. My hair ended up being cut to just below my ears, and as soon as I got home I realized that it was completely uneven. I received partial foils instead of a balayage, which if I go in to bleach/balayage my hair again, I just know I will have alot of damage where those foils had been placed. I told her my intent to go blonde/rose gold eventually and she somehow explained away my disappointment at having highlights instead of ombre hair. I later spoke to my mother in law out of state who is a hair stylist and learned that I needed a totally different technique for the result I was looking for. I feel pretty taken advantage of, tbh. I never go to the salon, so my inexperience was a huge disadvantage. I provided reference photos in advance and paid over $400 with the tip for a look that will take me 2 years to grow out and recover from. Very disappointed in my experience, and I will not be going back. This salon is over-hyped :/ Renee was nice, and my cut/color isn't hideous - but for $400, I expected my hair to look at least on track with how I wanted it. read more

The price is pretty high however the service is high quality so I would say it's worth it for me. I would recommend emailing the manager here rather than booking through the website. Honestly, this was kind of a big bummer. I was traveling through Seattle and made an appointment at this salon for a bleach and tone. I called to confirm a few days before and the day of the appointment I made sure online, but my appointment was gone. I called the salon and they said it had been deleted? They rescheduled me with Karie and I went in at 5. As soon as I arrived, karie told me they would be closing soon. I felt uncomfortable since this appointment was booked over the phone and if the salon was closing during my service, I would expect the person I booked with to make it earlier. She followed my home stylists instructions and did my hair for about AN HOUR (usually a bleach and tone takes almost 3 to complete) and with my hair soaking wet told me that they were not blow drying hair due to covid (that's fine, but then she charged me the full price). I paid $300 for this and within two weeks, my hair banded and turned brassy. I just got home to my salon and my hairdresser had to work twice as hard to fix karies work. I don't know if it was because I was a visitor or because she wanted to go home, but it was a really unfortunate experience and a fortune for a small amount of work. She didn't even do one of the steps it seemed like. And I do understand not offering a blow dry service, but then maybe knock $20 off the price? This salon is over priced and if you aren't a regular (I guess) be cautious. And also don't book an appointment that could go over time because clearly they will rush through your hair rather than work a bit late. read more

Stephanie is a very knowledgeable stylist and a good conversationalist as well! I haven't been to a salon that wasn't mall based nor more than $15-$20 for a haircut before, so the experience here felt like luxury! I was provided with sparkling water as well as a robe which was unexpected. My stylist even gave me a head massage with the shampooing and conditioning. I was even allowed to have my friend sit next to me which was kind of them! I thought all of these would cost extra, but they weren't at all! Kayla is so experienced and sweet. I came in a terribly harsh line and orangey hair from previous dye jobs growing out (pictured) and voiced my concerns and desires to her. From the first handshake, she was warm and pleasant to be around. Hair cuts and coloring aren't short, but time flew by with her! She is incredibly affable and thoughtful, taking into mind my lifestyle and preferences to curate personalized tips and notes to keep in mind in regards to taking care of my hair from here on out and how to avoid things like my hair at the beginning. My first appointment I got a great haircut with Karie. On my second appointment Karie suggested a Keratin treatment and it turned out horrible and took 4 months to get out of my hair. They gave me a refund. I had an appointment today and drove an hour and a half for them to tell me the appointment didn't show up from booking through the internet so I'd have to come back at 245 so I said I'd go eat and come back. I was blown away with the warm and welcoming environment of the salon when I got there, my hair was in a very bad state, dry and out of control. I have curly hair and very thick and any Salon in Seattle has been able to handle it and Wow me with the results.
