Chelsea M.

This is honestly the first bad review I've ever written. I have spent the last couple weeks trying to communicate directly with Bowie salon and my stylist Karie but my experience has gone from bad, to worse, to inexcusable. New to Seattle, wanted my hair done for drivers license picture and birthday this month. Made the mistake of calling Bowie Salon, and they offered me a consultation. Went and paid $30 for a roughly 10 minute consultation with Karie. The appointment they offered me was 3 weeks away, one day before my license picture. (Note:Getting dmv appointments isn't easy these days!) Almost 3 weeks later I'm in the chair almost 10 minutes before Karie brought a piece of paper to sign with the price on it: $458 (minus the $30 from the consultation). I was shocked, but felt that I had no time left to figure out another solution in the next 24 hours. I also figured the job would be well done since I've never paid close to that, even at high end salons. Clearly I should have asked the cost before then but I have been to so many places I thought I had a rough idea. Either way they should have let me know ahead of time, since I came in for a consult. Also she said it would take multiple sessions to "fix" my hair. I now see that would be roughly $1,000- $1,500 for something I've had done in one session most of my life? Seems like a scam. Once the process was done I saw it didn't look right but figured I'd see it dry before panicking. Already over the 3 hr time she blocked for me, I asked if she was going to trim my hair. She told me she didn't know I wanted a haircut! Thought I'd made that clear when I was there the first time. Also never had someone bleach my hair and not want to at least trim it. She told me her next client was there so she wouldn't have time. She and another girl blow dried my hair and as I got up she asked if I liked it. I half heartedly smiled, I never had a chance to look at it. She ushered me to the front and they offered me a haircut the next day with a different stylist for $95. I asked if it would have been that much on top of my color today to which they replied "Karie is a master stylist and her haircuts are $115". I've been wondering if Karie would have alerted me to this before trimming my hair, had she had time. (Had she cut my hair the total would have been $573 BEFORE tip! Making the tip $114. That's $687 for a cut and color). I told the girl I would not like to make another appointment and I paid and left, feeling horrible. I tipped less than 20% which I would never normally do, hoping that at least my color was okay. When I got home I looked at it in the mirror and started crying !! My hair looked awful. Streaky, uneven, patchy, tacky..she only "felt comfortable" pulling the bleach part way through my hair, creating three clearly different colored sections. I could go on but the pictures I've attached speak for themselves. Friends (some of whom are hair stylists themselves) urged me to call Bowie immediately, I did. They told me I'd have to speak with Karie who was busy. She called me back the next day but I was busy. I called her back the next morning and she was busy. Next Wednesday it had been a week and my call was still unreturned. I called again, she called me right back. She gave me some cliche lines that she "cares about her work and wants her clients happy" but went on to argue with me. Saying things such as "you should know I did many foils I mean they were on YOUR head", "I didn't know you wanted a haircut, you said you were growing it out and haven't been good about getting consistent haircuts", and "if money was an issue you should have told me and I could have made you an appointment with one of our many other stylist for much cheaper". So you mean to say that I just happen to get the most expensive "master stylist" yet the salon felt no need to inform me of the price even though I came in ahead of time for a consultation. Based on Bowie Salons price list a full foil is $128+, but my "double foil" was $205 EACH. And I was just supposed to assume that? Had I loved my hair, things would be different. At the end of our short phone call Karie asked what I want done, and I said I'd like to send her the pictures and then talk about what to do. I sent them and NEVER GOT A RESPONSE. I called two times over the next week and was told she was busy. It's been 10 days since we spoke so it's clear she's just hoping I go away. After all this, how awkward (and unprofessional) would it be to have to go back to a stylist that did a terrible job on your hair and then argued with you about it ! At this point I really just would like to ask for my money back because it will take a lot more of my time and money to fix her work. But when I asked if I could speak to a manager or owner they said no I would have to deal with Karie. This entire situation has been a nightmare and I hope I can save someone else from experiencing what I have.

Beautiful airy space - very quiet and comfortable.

I came here for a special blowout and for full makeup by Shoka. Her sweet and delightfully attentive focus helped put me at ease. She gave a great shampoo and head massage. At the end upon my request she used a curling iron to give me the right volume I desired. The makeup was very elegant and subtle but just perfect. It was very beautiful. I was thrilled with the result. I left and went to take some headshots for my company website. I was beyond thrilled with the outcome. Five stars for Shoka for a blow out and makeup.

She is very talented with what she does and very very attentive to make sure to get you what you want. We always have fun conversations as well. I'm Asian and our hair isn't the easiest to work with. I usually get my hair done when I visit Korea (but then COVID happened) or choose to find a Korean salon here, but I wasn't able to find one in Seattle nearby that lived up to my expectations. I also don't change my hair much - last time I got it chemically treated was almost 3 years ago, which I think makes chemical treatments tricky. Bleaching prior to coloring took a VERY LONG time but Tomoko was very patient with me and made sure we achieved the color I wanted. And despite bleaching for quite a while, I don't feel like my hair was damaged much (if at all). Oh, and oh my god, the head massage while washing my hair was A M A Z I N G. I think it was the best head massage I've ever gotten and I sort of wished I could stay there forever. The salon isn't big, but very well prepped for the pandemic (they check for your temperature prior to entering the salon, ask to wash your hands, everyone wears a mask and currently they don't use a blowdryer to dry your hair to minimize risks - they used a bonnet hood attachment for me) and I felt safe during both my appointments. As for pricing, it definitely isn't cheap but I think the salon lives up to the price and everything is transparent and as listed on their website.

Yuka was so accommodating, and she's great at what she does. When I moved out here in December 2025, I was understandably concerned about how my hair would look with a new stylist and whether I would find someone (it took me a few years to find the right person in NYC). I booked an appointment with Antonio and I am so glad that I did! He listened to my concerns, took the shape of face and hair type into consideration and gave me this amazing haircut that is growing out beautifully! He was such a pleasure to work with. I will be booking with Antonio from now on. For my color, Antonio referred me to Mackenzie, who gave me this wonderful color that I absolutely love, a wonderful dark caramel color. After growing my hair out for the last 12…read moremonths because I started chemo and I lost a lot of it my fiancé surprise me with a full Salon experience at Antonio Salon! the haircut was $130 and it took three hours to mess up my hair. I scheduled my appointment with Hannah because I saw her social media and it seemed similar to what I was hoping my hair to be. she was the newest stylist it listed her as but the Salon got such great reviews I didn't think it mattered. I get there and she's already running 30 minutes late I say no problem because I'm in the industry and I understand. She puts me in my chair and she doesn't brush it out she doesn't section it she starts cutting it with texturizing shears and starts thinning it out by slide cutting and also point cutting. She never once took a section she never once parted it with clips. She thin it out washed me, send it out again while Wet, had an assistant dry me, and then texturized it again to the point where I told her I didn't need any more texturizing I noticed in the mirror while they were blow drying how it looked very broken and weight thinner than I had originally come in. The system was having a hard time curling my hair due to health than it was so I attempted to treat myself seeing as I'm a hairstylist as well and even I couldn't put a curl through it because I had such a little hair. I waited a few days because I didn't want to upset the stylist cause I liked her as a person but once I got home and saw how uneven how thin and how damaged my hair is now I called to rebook an appointment. Not necessarily because I wanted a new cut but because I just wanted someone to section it and maybe think of a style I could create out of what was left. They rescheduled my appointment three times and gave me three different stylist before I received an email last night the day before my appointment informing me that after they reviewed the photos I had emailed them, refunded me my money and that they canceled my appointment. I never once got a text or a call to notify me about the cancellation so I proceeded to go to my appointment. When I got there they had completely just deleted everything about me and I was greeted defensively by the owner. He apparently already knew my name and that I was a hairstylist and started off by telling me that they don't have time for me and that that he doesn't think his lawn was right for me. I told him that I needed him to take accountability and help me try to fix what he allowed one of his stylist to do and he continued to push back telling me to leave that he wasn't gonna help me that there were no stylist that we're gonna help me at his salon. He then threatened to call the cops on me and the building manager I agree that they can come and look at my hair as well. He continued to yell at me and belittle me without even looking at my hair. He then tried to gaslight me telling me that my hair was already like that before the haircut and that he thinks it looks fine and that there was nothing wrong with it. After telling him that I already had an appointment he then said why didn't you just tell me that and got me in with an apprentice to just blow dry my hair. She was informed not to talk about my Hair to me not to section my hair, and also not to discuss my correction. He then came over when the service was complete and told me that I needed to leave and I asked him if he could just section a piece to look at it with me he said no and told me to leave once again. This is the worst place I've ever experienced Hair! I have been in the industry for 12 years and have also owned my own studio salon and I would never treat anybody let alone a client paying $110 the way that this salon treated me. I have video recording and pictures to prove everything along with him telling me that I need to leave multiple times. This is the worst Salon! the owner has no right to call himself an owner after treating a customer the way that he treated me. All I was asking for was for someone to section my hair to acknowledge the fact that it is broken and damaged and uneven. And he couldn't even do that let alone allow another stylist to do it. I will be taking the Salon! to court, I will be posting all of the videos on TikTok and all other social media platforms. I left looking like I have a mushroom on top of my head with tentacles hanging down. This place is a rip off. And does not deserve to be in business.

When I brought this up to the receptionist, she told me blowouts don't include hot tools. She also checked Anthony's schedule after I mentioned his comment about another client, and there didn't appear to be anyone immediately after me. For being over $100, I expected the service to be tailored to the look I requested, especially after paying for extra time.
