Made an appointment for a hair donation I double checked with registration if they're really ok with someone coming in at 11am on Christmas Eve. They told me there was an appointment at 10am already scheduled. I come here at 10:45am, it's closed. And now it is 11am. No one there. Kind of not cool. Was looking forward to donating my hair. I didn't receive an email or phone cancelation either. I confirmed my appointment in the email as well. My advice, if you can't show up, call me or email me. Also, it's especially not cool when it's a hair donation for a kid. I understand life happens, but I drove 1 hr for this. The least you can do is inform me of a cancelation. I had a really disappointing experience with Divina. Throughout the appointment, she kept making negative comments about my hair, saying things like you have too much hair and OMG, I'll have to deal with so much. That immediately made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. When I asked if she had experience working with thick, frizzy Indian hair, she laughed and said, you guys always want sleek straight hair, but that's not doable. That comment was dismissive, offensive, and completely unprofessional. Things only got worse toward the end of my appointment. After coloring my hair, she clearly got exhausted while drying it and didn't finish the blowout properly. Instead, she brushed it off by saying she doesn't like using heat on clients after color and even added that she was supposed to be home by now. Leaving a client with half-dried, frizzy hair is careless and unprofessional. I tried expressing my concern politely but she completely dismissed it. Divina, this isn't my first time at a salon and I know my hair can be styled beautifully when someone puts in the effort. I was visiting Seattle from California, so I booked this salon based on reviews from yelp and someone recommended them on a Reddit thread. The salon called and let me know they needed to change my stylist from Brooke to Jerri and I was fine with that, a girl needed her hair done after all. I booked a blowout and deep conditioning with Jerri. As soon as I walked in, someone helped me right away and Jerri quickly sat me. Unbeknownst to me, I got engaged the day before my appointment. So Jerri starts asking about the wedding and I let her know it happened the day before. The conversation we had that hour while she was doing my hair was so wonderful. Jerri was so sweet, she even gave me a hug at the end. When I return to Seattle, you better believe I will be getting my hair done here by Jerri. For starters, this was the first experience getting my hair colored, I brought in a picture showing the color and look I was going for. The stylist (Sylvia) assured me what I wanted was tangible and that the technique she would be using would look better than a balayage. After bleaching my hair, the stylist dried and curled it and said that the lines of brown and yellow would fade out and the color of my hair would lighten over time and that I wouldn't need to tone my hair. I have never colored my hair before and wasn't sure exactly what to expect. After going home, my roommate pointed out all of the harsh lines and geometric shapes throughout my hair and informed me that my hair should have been blended better. I then contacted the stylist and sent her photos of the areas in my hair that weren't blended, and that I wanted her to fix. She did not respond for three days. It took me calling the salon and leaving 2 messages and talking to another stylist over the phone for the original stylist to contact me back and schedule another appointment for her to fix my hair. Going into the second appointment to fix the blending and chunkiness in my hair; I explained that I did not want to see the large brown chunks and wanted to be able to style my hair and not be worried about having to cover up lines of where the blonde and brown starts and stops. Half way through the stylist foiling my hair, another one of her clients walks in and was waiting for her to finish with me to begin her hair. After my hair was fully foiled that client and her step outside for a few minutes and then came back inside. The hair stylist then grabs the tray of bleach, brushes, and combs she had just used on my hair and WITHOUT washing or cleaning anything, directly starts applying the same bleach to the other clients hair. After sitting with bleach and foil in my hair for about 40 minutes I noticed that the stylist was just over half way through with the other clients hair. After just having my hair bleached a week before I started to worry about the bleach damaging my hair. I felt uncomfortable with my hair being left unattended and un checked for so long. After 52 minutes pass, the stylist finally finishes coloring the other clients hair and starts to check my foils and washes the bleach out. As soon as she washed my hair I could tell my hair was incredibly damaged. It was matted, straw like and could not be untangled. The stylist then attempted to brush and blow dry my hair without using any product. I finally had to tell her to stop and that I don't think we should continue to dry hair considering how damaged and dry it was. I paid $320 for this hair nightmare. The hair stylist seemed she was in over her head from the beginning and either didn't care, or was too prideful to recommend someone else to do the job. My hair is incredibly damaged. I've had to go buy intensive hair care products to try and repair my hair. I have since gone to a get color correction, and hair strengthening treatments at Bang Salon in Belltown, I would recommend going there. Background: I have been flying to SoCal to get haircuts since 2004 because of many many terrible haircuts in Washington (3 butchered my hair, and a different 3 tried to fix it... there goes $500). I have major trust issues about people cutting my hair (see above) and was very reluctant to find a stylist in Washington because I don't know anyone that is happy with their stylist and know of at least 4 other girls that fly elsewhere to get their hair done. I had to find one in Washington to appease the boyfriend and I'm really glad I did because I found Sylvia! Sylvia knows how to cut hair! The makeup artist was willing to meet me at Voda on my wedding day, so the convenience and the high acclaims sealed the deal. I met with Rachel three times. One consultation, one actual real-deal run through, and on my wedding day. She did my hair, my matron of honors hair, and my mother's hair, and she did a perfect job on each of us and I could not have been happier. I recently had my hair completely overhauled by Sylvia Kim of Salon Voda. I don't normally write reviews but I felt this one very necessary to share. Sylvia is a true artist. I asked her advice on what should be done with my unruly and most oft ridiculous hair. I am not very trusting when it comes to my hair due to some catastrophic past hair stylist incidents. I put myself at Sylvia's mercy and I am ever so pleased that I was able.Sylvia cut and colored and foiled my hair, She also tinted my eyebrows. What she really did was give me an amazing gift. My visit to Salon Voda was predicated on a gift certificate that stylist Anthony Petrulio donated to an auction at our local elementary school. (Bonus points for the generosity!) WOW! I am absolutely thrilled with Anthony's work. I went in for a fairly drastic change, and I could not be happier. Anthony did an amazing job - giving me exactly the cut I wanted and even improving on my idea. I requested a few of his cards on my way out, knowing that I'd be asked who cuts my hair. Meh...If I could give this place 2.5 stars I would. I went in May because I had a Tippr voucher and I hadn't had a hair cut since I visited my parents around Thanksgiving. My mom is a hairdresser and I have trust issues when it comes to other people cutting my hair :). So I went over with my Tippr voucher and husband too since I booked him a waxing appointment for the same time so that we could get beautified together. First Thoughts...Hmm, they use Ikea furniture and fixtures. Not to sound like a snob or anything, but this kind of raised a red flag to me since I know Ikea stuff might be cheap, but it sure as hell isn't durable, and in the long run wouldn't be of good use in a salon, because with people running into it all day it won't look good very long. Just saying... I got their early, so I was prepared to wait, but I didn't expect to be waiting 15-30 minutes past the time that my appointment was supposed to start. Ah well, it happens. When I met my hair stylist I could have sworn he had a deer in the headlights look in his eyes. At this point I should probably disclose that I have thick, curly multi-racial hair and it was up in a ponytail that day. (I'll explain why that's relevant in a moment...) So he sits me down, looks at my hair, and then disappears for a few minutes. He comes back, brings me to the sinks and then sits me down again and says nervously "I don't have much experience with ethnic hair, so maybe you can come back tomorrow because the person we have that's more experienced will be in then and she can do your hair." He also said that he "was worried that I wouldn't be happy with the style." In other words, my hair scares the be-jeezus out of him and he doesn't want to touch it. I've been to "black salons" and I've been to mall salons and I've been to upscale salons. Even when I've gone to a salon that doesn't cater to "black hair," I've never had a problem. The stylist might gulp and say that my hair is the curliest they've ever dealt with, but they never showed any qualms about dealing with my hair. So needless to say, I was a bit frustrated and indignant and thought that this whole thing was a little unprofessional. I thought about leaving, but hell, I'm pregnant, and tired, and I don't feel like trekking back to Seattle from Bellevue again because this guy thinks that "ethnic" hair is somehow different than "normal" hair. After a few minutes of talking with him, and giving him a pep talk, I managed to convince him (and myself), that it would be ok, and all I need is for my hair to be cut and dried and flat ironed. I told him that my hair wasn't any different then other (read - white) curly hair, but it was just a bit curlier. I told him that if it made him more comfortable, he could flat iron my hair and then cut it. I think this was the point when he realized that he could manage to cut my hair and not butcher it. He ended up cutting my hair wet, in it's curly state. Then he went back and adjusted after he flat ironed it. I'll give him an A for honesty, a B for the hair cut, and a B- for the flat ironing (I think he got tired and kind of gave up toward the end, since the front was a bit frizzy.) I honestly didn't care at that point, since I just wanted a decent hair cut and having it styled perfectly wasn't a top priority, and I knew I could touch up my hair with my own flat iron. In other news, my husband's waxer - Tess - did a great job and was very thorough, so I give her 4 stars. read more

Tried this place instead of my usual salon in Bellevue after buying a Tippr voucher. My hair hadn't been touched in more than 6 months, so much overdue for some TLC. The plan was just to get 2-3 inches off the bottom and update the long layers. The final product came out perfectly fine: precision layers, perfect length, etc. If I had to rate the haircut itself, it would be 4 star. The reason I docked a star is because something about the experience just didn't seem right. I had called in a few days earlier to make the appointment, and the person who answered the phone said I was booked with Rachel. So naturally when I went in on the day of my appointment, I told the front desk that I was there to see Rachel. She said she would let her know right away. I waited for about 15 minutes (already a bit odd...), and then Jack came out to get me. At that point, there was no explanation for why he was cutting my hair instead of this Rachel character. Again, not really complaining, but very odd way of doing business. After a quick consultation, we walked over to the shampoo station. Mind you, I'm not wearing a smock or anything, and was not offered one either. I'm thinking either he forgot to give me one, or that's just the way they do it at this salon. Needless to say, the back of my collar was a bit damp at the end of it. After that, everything else went pretty smoothly and I was happy with my haircut. Not sure I'll go back though; I never really felt 100% comfortable there and I now really miss my old stylist. read more

Toyo!! is the best! I am very picky with my hair and I tried so many hair salons so far. They were alright but none of the hair designers made me go back. But, now, I've found one! Toyo is talented and has an aesthetic eye. As soon as he saw my hair carefully, he knew which color and what kind of product I have used for my hair and what I need for better looks. He uses high-end products but he never asked me to buy them. He was very detailed but not took too long. He was also a very fun person to talk to. The best of his skill is scalp massage. I did touch-up color and his scalp massage was beyond description; I was speechless. I sometimes had some itchy and hurtful scalp but it seemed to be gone after the massage. That was included in the original price. I found that he just moved from Slime salon in Belle town (there are many good review about him). Of course i loved my hair-color and looks but I feel also healthy. I will absolutely go back to him. As soon as I came back home, I booked another hair cut for my partner with Toyo. I have been going to Sherri G. for 25 years and she had moved (my bad as I erased her many emails about new location). Anyway, I sat in the waiting area at Salon Voda for 15 mins, there was hair all over the floors and the stylist working would not acknowledge me. It was not until the owner walked in after sitting outside smoking and not attending to her salon or front desk. The lack of acknowledgment as a client, no matter who walks through that door, they should at least ask. I was disgusted by the lack of care, cleanliness and the rude looks I received from one of the stylists that ignored me. Come on your a running business, if they were kind enough I may (I say MAY have tried someone there) but the lack of service from the start, I'm glad she left this place that is poorly run. read more

Needless to say, I was a bit bashful when taking my hair out of its ponytail to get the whole thing started, but she didn't miss a beat. She first gave me a "tour of my hair" so I could see what in the world was happening on top of my head anymore. I have been meaning to write up on my great hairstylist, Christian Traynor, at Salon Voda. He does a fantastic job keeping my long hair looking lush and "youthful": meaning, he does a great job coloring my hair to its natural dark brown and getting rid of those awful grays :) A couple times I considered getting a perm or body wave to do something different with my hair, and both times, rather than going for the money, Christian talked me out of it, saying I would do better to do simple "pin" curls or use a curling iron for a little body. Best Salon ever!!! I have been going here for over four years, I have this nasty dark/ dishwater blond color hair that is very thick and unruly. I am really particular on the color of blond highlights i get, and HATE being FORCED to chop off my hair because" it needs it" when I am growing it out! The very first time I met her she was so laid back and highlighted my hair exactly how I liked it and trimmed it just enough, without cutting way too much off!! She is never forceful or pushy on having me do something with my hair that she thinks would look good or pushing products on me to buy. An added bonus is she is REALLY quick, super nice and easy to talk to, always on time, her prices are totally reasonable and I can always get an appointment with her just by calling a week or two in advance. The salon is really clean, classy, easy to get to and parking is never an issue. I have also had my lashes tinted, eyebrows waxed, airbrushed tanned and a mani and pedi and was just as happy with the technicians and the outcomes as I have been with Rachel and my hair.
