This is all you need to know: Philana is hands down, the best hair stylist in the city of Seattle. Whether you're going conservative or funky, want to relax or gossip, she'll give you exactly what you need (without you needing to ask, I might add). Your cut starts off with a lovely head massage, and perhaps a cup of coffee. Then a shampoo...condition...and boom! She's given you the precise look you were going for, even if you didn't have the words to tell her what you wanted. I've worked in the hair/spa industry for a few years, and I have to say, Philana is as good as it gets. She is extremely professional and attentive to working collaboratively with her clients to make sure they're getting what they want. She is clearly very experienced with her craft, truly loves what she does, and is such a pleasure to talk to! She and I have begun the process of taking my curly brunette hair to a balayage/ombré in the chocolate mauve style. Book with Megan I got a Balayage & cut Couldn't be happier with my results. I don't get my hair done often but was traveling to the Bahamas for a wedding so I decided to go all out. First I went to a salon that did not give me the results I wanted. I had photos and was very specific. In fact, it was so bad I got a full refund. Then I went to Megan and she fixed me, not only fix but it looks better than I thought it would. She was able to work with my schedule. I arrived at 5pm on a work day and easily found a parking spot right out front. (Since I got there a bit early I stopped across the street to Malenas Taco Shop. Very good also! Lol) Megan is very knowledgeable in her field and makes you feel like you're in safe hands. She was very easy to communicate with and she knew exactly what type of questions to ask. You can tell she is very passionate about her profession and cares about you leaving happy and looking your best rather than just earning a paycheck. She also does not accept tips. The price is as is. She was fast, accurate, professsional, personable and always let me know what was going on and even explained why she did things the way she did them. I also bought shampoo and conditioner. It works great, doesn't weigh my hair down and leaves you smelling fresh. I get compliments on my hair whenever I leave the house. I have been getting my hair cut and colored by Megan Edwards for over a year now. I came to her to get a bang trim originally and she nailed it. She also helped me figure out my then frizzy, unmanageable and overly thinned hair. She is always respectful of what I want to do to my hair and so professional. My hair is getting more dense, I finally know how to wash and style my hair in a way that makes it manageable and I always look forward to seeing her. Over the past four years, Amy has taken my hair from long to short, natural to dyed, wavy to straight, all with impressive skill. I can always trust that whatever Amy does to my hair will turn out perfectly, and that has allowed me to be a little more adventurous with my style than I might be otherwise. I first went to her a few years ago (when she was still at Mode) with long hair and said "um, can you make it better?"...which has to be the most frustrating unclear request to ever make, but she totally did (make it better, that is). Then she kept cutting my hair just the same way, just like I wanted it, until I had a major mid-life crisis, showed up and said "cut it all off and, oh, make it better" and she did! So, lessons I learned: a) Philana is psychic and b) she's really good at cutting hair. No slouch with the color either. And nice, did I mention nice? You definitely need to book well in advance, though, and it's really not an inexpensive hair cut. But totally worth it and, plus, I'm addicted. read more

Lisa is the only hair stylist I trust with my hair. I have surprisingly thick wavy hair and ever since I decided to go for a lob hair style I have dreaded my hair looking like a "triangle." Lisa is the only hair stylist I have had who completely understood and knew how to cut and thin my hair exactly like I like it. I have since started getting balayage with Lisa and that has been incredible as well and looks so natural. Leslie at Wink Hair Studio will be my hairstylist for the rest of my life. I have naturally curly and colored (dry) hair that I am trying to grow out. Her knowledge with color is so creative and she can easily give recommendations for what would look best with your face and skin tone... Her cuts last a long time and grow out very well. She is also quick, you'll be out of there in 2 hours with a foil, cut and style! I highly recommend for someone who is indecisive, wants to get in without waiting a month and look good for the next several weeks! Since moving to QA Hill, I have tried two stylists at the Salon Joseph across from the Wink Hair Studio before coming to Philana @ the Wink. In comparing her work with the other two stylists, whom I found pretty good, I have to say that Philana is truly an artist at giving me the most flattering haircut for my face AND one that actually looks good when I style it myself. The styling has always been a challenge for me with hectic schedule, constant travel and lack of patience in general. Yet, Philana cuts my hair in a way that makes them incredibly easy to style. I have done two dramatically diffferent haircuts with her in the last year and both worked out amazingly well. Most recently she cut my hair from mid-back length to a sexy slightly inverted Bob and I've been getting compliments on it for months now!
