Car repairs are infrequent for me as I generally drive newer vehicles and trade about every 4-5 years. So, Chrome Auto Repair just gets my oil change and annual inspection business. It is always a pleasure to sit in their customer area during those times. However, Sunday morning when I backed out of my garage to meet family for brunch in downtown Lynchburg, I heard a weird crunching sound. Yep, a flat tire...and, of course, the person who would normally help me was in Italy. So, I text messaged the Chrome Auto business line. On Monday morning, I called first thing. Jeff came with one of his workers to my house and plugged the tire, put air in the tire and drove me back to his shop. Yes, I purchased 4 new tires as mine were 6 years old; but, the customer care that went into this whole ordeal is truly above and beyond expectation, even for a local small business auto repair shop. I brought my 20 year old Subaru WRX to Jeff Eddy/Chrome Auto from Frederick, MD for a peace of mind checkup since I plan to drive it for many years. It ran beautifully for the 4 hour drive to his shop but as original owner, I knew there were things that had never needed attention before. Jeff has been my mechanic, then became my friend many years ago and I knew his shop, Chrome Auto was the only place I could take it and be confident that it not only would be fixed right, but that nothing would be recommended that was unnecessary. I basically gave him a blank check - tell me what needs repair and what may need repair. He and his team, particularly "curly" Jeff, drove it, went thru it, and while the list was fairly long, nearly everything on it were things that had never been repaired or needed repair in the 20 years I've owned it. New struts, shocks, tie rods, a repaired exhaust (tuned to a sweet rumble) and a few other things and my baby is handling like it did when it was new. Not cheap, but the price was absolutely fair. If you have a Subaru, Jeff's Chrome Auto is your place. If you drive something else, I feel sorry for you-but this honest and experienced shop/staff has in-depth experience with most cars and will take care of your car, get it running reliably or explain what the issues are so you can make the best decision for you. read more

Jeff and his mechanics have earned my trust and business for life. After dealing with multiple auto repair shops that lied and did terrible work, I found Jeff. He's honest, ethical, and knowledgable when it comes to vehicles. While they are not the cheapest option, in life you get what you pay for. Do not do business with this operation. They are extremely shady and do not know how to repair a car. The following is my story. Earlier this Spring, I noticed the air conditioning in my car was not blowing cold air. I brought it to my mechanic friend and he looked at a few things but found nothing that readily identified the specific issue. He advised that rather than guess and have me buy parts that may not resolve the problem, it would be better to take the car to a professional mechanic that will diagnose the exact issue. Then I would know exactly what needs to happen and the cost so I could decide how to proceed with the repair. On April 27, 2022, I brought the car to Chrome Auto Repair to have the AC problem diagnosed. The mechanic determined the only possible problem was the compressor and I was given a repair quote for replacing both the compressor and condenser (as replacing the condenser is advised when the compressor has failed). The quote was high so I told my personal mechanic what was found and we agreed he would repair for $500. I purchased a new compressor and condenser from Rock Auto and 4 cans of Freon. My mechanic installed the new compressor and condenser (and found nothing wrong with existing parts) and added the freon but the AC still did not work. He did several other things to try to make it work and spent considerable time researching the issue but could not find the answer for several weeks. I was without the car for exactly 3 weeks. Well over 2 of those weeks were lost while my mechanic worked to determine why the repair Chrome Auto said would definitely fix the problem was not working. On May 22, his research and persistence paid off. A loose wire that he previously thought was for something else was determined to be the wire for the ambient air temperature sensor. He did some tests that proved favorable and then purchased the $8.00 temperature sensor and installed and the AC finally worked. In addition, as stated earlier, during installation he determined there was nothing wrong with the existing compressor and condenser. The entire job of fixing the AC on my car could have been done with the simple replacement of the ambient air temperature sensor. The Chrome Auto "mechanic" that inspected the AC system and concluded replacement of the compressor was necessary to fix the ac issue was completely wrong. His failure to locate the actual problem has cost me over $1000.00 for a repair that should have cost $30 for labor and the part plus $138.30 for an accurate diagnosis of the issue. I was not pleased by this situation. However, I was not overly angry either because people make mistakes every day. However, once a mistake is discovered and communicated to the responsible organization, that company should make the customer whole and rectify their mistake. The above is the gist of a letter I brought to Chrome Auto along with receipts for my costs. The letter also indicated an expectation of reimbursement for the cost I absorbed due solely to their mistake. They did nothing to make this right. Their reason - they did not replace the parts. All I needed and paid them to do was provide an accurate diagnosis of the problem and their inability to do so is the only reason for my costs regardless of who did the work. Further, would they have actually found the problem if I did let them do the work? Possibly but only after replacing parts that never needed to be replaced and charging a lot of money to do so. The front desk girl told me if they had done the work and the AC still did not operate, they would then find the problem and repair it for no further cost. I responded - So, you will misdiagnose the problem, then install some costly parts with high labor charges and then diagnose the actual problem? No response. Bottom line is this is a disreputable operation and I advise everyone to avoid them for any auto work. read more

Very rude unprofessional. My sister went in for a wheel alignment and they bent the screws on the fender and messed fender up making it rub the tire while driving. Called and went back up there they were very disrespectful and said they wouldn't fix it. read more

We've taken our car to Jeff for many years starting when he was in Maryland over an hour away. Now we drive three hours from Northern Virginia to have him work on all our cars.
