This is ANOTHER one of those conveyor belt type food places where you line up like a cafeteria and get chow. Setting aside the new type of restaurant the food is not bad. It's not a "Wow" either but worth trying. There are 2 all stars on the menu... the rolled tacos are a yes get those and the chronic salad bowl where you choose everything in the salad. I got the chicken burrito with Spanish rice, refried beans, pico de gallo, cheese, lettuce, salsa rojo, and jalepeños on the side. Came here for the first time during my lunch break around 1PM. Where to start, this is my family place to go for a quick Mexican bite, we live round the corner, going to Santa Ana is out of the menu for now, so, when we want something Mexican, quick cheap and cheerful, the food is decent, the friendliness or rather customer service in my experience always leaves a bad taste in my mouth however! I do not write reviews, really, I hardly have anything bad to write about any establishment, yet, my personal experience with my local Chronic Tacos (Alton Parkway) has always been bad and I usually let it go! Food is great! Right?, just get on with it, but how many times should I put one cheek and then the other, just to get another yet rude experience! I am very fluent in Spanish, if I hear them talking and bantering in Spanish, I then tend to talk to them in Spanish, I say hi and I get a rude look and they speak back to me in English, and serve me in a rude, speedy manner, or maybe, they need to speak to customers back in English, ok, I go along with it, but it is just the same treatment!. This evening was no different, they excelled themselves! I arrived for our take away food, as usual, they were bantering in Spanish and laughing, I said good evening in Spanish, and my purpose being there, to collect my food, I get the rude look, no answer, the gentleman at the register, just grabs my bag, hands it over and not a word!, I say to myself, geez! Why do I keep coming back here! I say thank you in English, I walk out, look into my bag, limes are missing, so I return to ask for limes, would you believe it ! I am not making this up! The same guy at the register gets the limes, puts them in a container! Does not even look at me, leaves them there at the counter, with his back to me as, like, he just does not wants to acknowledge me, he just wants to get on with it, if, he was busy, talking to another of his colleagues for another food order or if he needed to urgently get on with his next task, I would understand and brush it off and move on, but it was none, no apology or anything, just simply felt rude to me... ...am I going to make a scene for some limes and everyone looking at me like I am yet another customer facing a Covid crisis or melt down, nah mate, I chin up and move on, the food tastes great, right!! Really do not know what their beef is, if someone speak Spanish back to them! Or maybe I am the one with bad luck and every time I go, they are maybe having a bad day! Just ordered from this Chronic Taco after not having had it since before the pandemic. I walked in and was the only customer there. I always get shrimp so it takes a little longer because they have to cook it to order. So I had waited for my shrimp and got all my toppings and when it came time to pay the cashier was leaning against the counter texting and not even facing me. I let him know that I was all set to pay because I was standing there for a bit and had not been acknowledged. Then he goes "you're talking to the owner." I'm not sure if being the owner was supposed to justify the complete lack of customer service but after that interaction I will be going elsewhere to buy my $15 nachos. read more

I came in at 10am for some breakfast burritos and the two older ladies were super unfriendly especially the one with dyed blonde long hair. She was throwing her arms up and was acting annoyed when I asked her a question about the burrito. I was about to walk out after hearing her talk trash about me in Spanish to the other lady but luckily for them I was getting food for my boss too. Just really bad customer service here. I really want to like this place and give them 5 stars but the quality, customer service and value is not great. I ordered two large seafood burritos today with a side of tots. It wasn't worth $28. There was hardly any fish (doesn't justify the extra $2 for seafood) and the rice was hard. The texture was either undercooked or under-warmed. I asked for some condiments to be put on the side. They didn't follow my special request. I wanted to go back for the missing items but there was a ruckus at the counter... a woman loudly complaining about the service. I felt sorry for the gal behind the counter but I understood why the woman was complaining because I've had similar interactions with that gal before. She can use more training. I'm hoping the management of Chronic Tacos on Alton/Jeffery in Irvine read this because the ladies (mainly the cashier) gave me some horrible customer service. Today is Thursday February 13, 2020 and I ordered my food around 9:30am. I ordered two Potato/egg tacos and 3 bacon/egg/cheese/potato tacos which they got wrong. They gave me 4 bacon/egg/cheese & one potato/egg taco, WRONG! When I went to pay the cashier gave me a look like I had just committed a horrific crime against her family. She was angry, I have no idea why. I tried to be as nice as possible, even giving her a tip after I paid, however NOPE, didn't change her look. I've seen Chronic Tacos chain all over Orange County, but only had it once at this Irvine location. I needed to grab a bite to eat, something small to carry me over to dinner. Walked around the plaza and saw a few other restaurants, but decided to give Chronic Tacos a try. The menu is posted behind the cashier, which was pretty simple, tacos, tortas, chips & salsa, along with your choice of meats. What I've noticed was the price of each taco, $3! I think that's a bit over price, don't you think??? I've always been a fan of Al Pastor (Spicy Pork) so I ordered 2 of that, and was able to add whatever sides I want to it; onion, cilantro, lettuce, avocado, cheese. Also, either the red or green sauce. I must admit, the Al Pastor was filled with delicious and flavorful, but still don't think its worth the price. read more

Have always been a fan of Chronic TAco ever since I first discovered about the business when I was living in Newport Beach. Another cool thing about chronic taco is that the business is constantly striving to make itself better. What I mean by this is that they will constantly add new items to their menu. Some of their newest creations were the carne asada fries (chronic fries) and chicken tortilla soup. And another cool thing about this place is that you can pretty much order and custom order anything that you would like with the ingredients that they have. Im a huge fan of the taco...duhh the restaurant is called CHRONIC TACO. The portion of the taco is huge...but seems a bit pricy in my opinion. Im also a huge fan of the tostada, burrito...chimichangas arent bad either...and THE POTATO TACO! What exactly is a potato taco? For a fast food Mex place, I actually quite like Chronic Tacos. Besides this location I've been to the one at Corona del Mar. The food is always consistent and you know what you're getting. I usually get the shrimp taco and for the size one taco is enough for me for lunch if I'm not starving. When you order shrimp, they cook it to order so you have to wait a few minutes for it. The only complaint I have about this location is sometimes they are slow, but other than that, it's a good enough place to grab a decent Mex meal cheaply and quickly. 3.5 stars read more

This place just opened and I just had to stop by to try something. I had a burrito one time at the Newport location a while back, and while it wasn't horrible, it gave me some serious gas for the rest of the day. I decided to try one carne asada taco to go, for 3 bucks. Taking it to-go was an absolute must, because the place was swarming with loud and obnoxious pubescent kids. I had my choice of flour or corn tortilla, then the assembly-line continues. Carne asada meat, mild salsa, hot salsa, lettuce, and some shredded cheese. The good thing about ordering tacos is that you can get guacamole without getting charged extra (vs. the burritos). The wrapper was already soaked with grease and juices, which made unwrapping the taco an adventure. The corn tortilla was a bit stale, and the carne asada meat was pulverized so much that it almost resembled ground beef. At least it was seasoned pretty well. You can pick what ever items you want inside of your taco or burrito. I noticed most people ordered either burritos or quesadilla. The tacos looked good but the bigger items seem like a better value. I ordered 1 chicken and 1 steak, just to prove that you can have the best of both worlds. The veggies looked fresh and the guacamole looked and tasted delish! It was thick and clumpy like it was just scooped out of the skin. I hate the thinned out type that pour. One thing that I'd recommend to the cooking staff is to remove the fat from the liquid that the steak is sitting in. Just skim the top with a flat spoon? Unclean tables. Rude employees and awful food. I made arrangements to have lunch with a friend in the Irvine area and when she suggested Chronic Tacos, I didn't argue. I should have. In typical "Ran" style, I show up early and end up waiting. I didn't know where to wait though because the dining area is small. To make matters worse, the tables were not clean. Not at all. When my friend arrived, we immediately ordered. My friend happens to be very petite and the employee taking her order shocked the hell out of me with her comment that my friend should order a burrito because she's so skinny. Joke or not - if you're in the service industry, tact is something one would hope you practice. I let it slide though because it didn't seem to bother my friend but then when I got towards the end of the line, I was questioned about my choice of salsa. I asked for hot and then guy behind the counter asked me if I was sure because it was hot. That wasn't bad but to tell me afterwards that I don't look like I can handle the heat and that I can't bring the food back if I can't handle the spiciness was a little over the top for me. Surprisingly, I'm still in a good mood. After all, it's Friday for one - and I'm having lunch with a friend making plans for the weekend. However, the burrito I had - Al Pastor, was not very good. I had two bites and then set it down. I even commented that I was saving it for dinner however, it made its way into the trash later that night. My burrito seemed to have a chemical flavoring which made me mistakenly call this place, Toxic Tacos because I couldn't remember the name of the place. The only thing that had flavor was the meat (which is better than chipotle) but the beans were bland, the tortillas were worse than chipotle's, and the chips actually were terrible. Decent breakfast burrito, but extremely poorly run establishment. Store hours are supposed to be 10AM - 8:30PM every day. Called at 10:07AM, no answer. Message says "we are helping other customers". Call again at 10:19AM, no answer. Same message. Walk into the restaurant at 10:22AM expecting a line of customers, but there are none. Zero. Four staff including one older woman that appears to be a manager are still setting up, haven't even fired up the grill yet. After four minutes of waiting for them to get going, the cashier girl says she can take my payment while I wait. So I proceed to pay by card. While doing so, another girl who is making my burrito asks me what toppings I want. I walk over to see what they have, and she immediately tells me "oh you didn't finish paying". Why don't you let me finish paying then?! The cashier girl then rings me up and says the total is $6.45. I start to insert my card and the other girl tells her that's the wrong price. Apparently a discount had been applied. After removing the discount the new total is $9.85. Not a bad price in mid 2022 with inflation, but overall just a bad experience. If you are the owner of this establishment, please properly train your employees, or hire a manager that can! read more

Assembled fresh right in front of you, to your liking, Chronic Taco is an inexpensive, fast, fresh meal. If you categorize Chronic as a fast food taco joint, then there is no question that is better than a Del Taco or Taco Bell. If you put it in the Baja Fresh or La Salsa category, I would also give the nod to Chronic. Against Chipolte, we still give Chronic the nod, as it tastes more like a street taco should and not as corporate. I usually come here when I'm craving a quick meal that I know will fill me up and I don't feel like making the drive to Albatros. I can never finish the burritos here so I usually stick with the tostada bowls. Their al pastor is to die for .. full of flavor and just so delicious! I'm a fan of their fish tacos as well. If you order the breakfast burrito with chorizo, expect to wait a little longer because the chorizo and eggs are cooked to order (I believe). You definitely get your money's worth here and if you ask for more of anything (ingredients-wise), the staff never has a problem with it. The only problem with this location is that there are only two tables inside but there is plenty of seating outside that you can utilize (as long as the weather permits!). read more

Came here for the first time during lunch, with a minimal wait line. The set up is basically the same as Chipotle, you choose all your toppings and fillings. Pretty clean place and fast service. There's not a lot of seating indoors so you'll have to probably sit outside on the tables. You have to pay extra for grilled vegetables if you already got meat, which is something I did not like. Also, the chicken is SO SO salty I had to take some of it out of my burrito. Overall, it's an okay place if you want a fast meal on the go. read more

Sadly, we are continually disappointed with this Chronic Tacos location. They just don't have their act together. Always a little chaotic and seemingly poorly run. Today, they had a large order and were unwilling to take any orders for those walking in. Seems totally crazy considering it's a walk up order restaurant. Perhaps they should notes from Chipotle and have another area which will allow for call in or large order prep. They estimated 25-30 before they could support anyone walking in.
