    Truffle selection

Driving through the Deadwood-Lead area just wasting time, we originally drove past the Chubby Chipmunk, but then decided to go back after not much else in the area was open yet. Glad we did. The interior is cozy, a little small and a little cramped with everything in there, but helpful staff and samples out to try some goodies. Lots to choose from. We actually limited ourselves to a 6 pack of truffles. There are traditional chocolate candies, but the truffles are cute. They have different designs and some are topped with edible glitter. If you're traveling around, either bring them back to wherever you're staying or get something to keep them cool if you're not going to eat them right away.

Did I see the Chipmunks here? Yup, I sure did! Alvin, Simon, and Theodore were all outside the shop. They were among the props outside the little Chocolate shop. If you are claustrophobic, then do not go inside the shop. There was a total of about 9 people inside the shop when we were there, and it was a bit too cramped for the limited space inside. Most of the truffles are displayed in the case at the counter. Other merchandise and chocolate is located throughout the store. They even sell Ice Cream from a local South Dakota vendor. I was tempted to purchase a pint, but they were sold out of the flavors I wanted to try. We ended up purchasing six assorted Truffles and a Chocolate bar. Everything was pretty good. My personal favorite was the New York Cheesecake flavor. I recommend dropping by this local chocolate shop if you are anywhere near Deadwood, South Dakota. How can you resist? With the name Chubby Chipmunk, you just gotta go!!

If you are in the Lead/Deadwood area you have to go get some chocolates! The ladies were soooo nice, and the chocolates are amazingly beautiful and mind bogglingly delicious. If you need gifts to take home or just have a sweet tooth, this is the place!

A mix of dark and milk chocolate truffles! Their signature chipmunk one was delicious and I really enjoyed the raspberry.

The most amazing chocolate!! We highly recommend stopping and getting some of your favorite flavors!

This is awesome. Everything is huge. beautiful, and delicious. Cozy woodsy feel with a giant wood chipmunk out front. I had stopped here only because of the previous Yelp.com review! I mentioned it to the owner, she wasn't familiar with it, so I hope she comes and checks it out! This place could be incredible only for the fact that they have a Truffle vending machine outside! Yes. A vending machine dispensing $2 truffles. I hear on some mornings when they open it's sometimes empty! This is one of those hole in the wall places that will get more popular little by little. Deadwood is a small community with nice travel appeal, I hope that the tourist trade keeps this place alive! There isn't a bad piece of chocolate in this place. Try the key lime... strawberry princess parfait.. orange with dark chocolate... I am at an airport waiting for my connecting flight and I realized I forgot my acorn shaped tin in the fridge where we were staying. Good thing it was with family and they offered to overnight them for me! I would be devastated if I didn't get them home.

Best truffles ever. Got that. Best ever. Try the deadwood toffee, moose toffee, salted caramel, root beer float, key lime, etc. You get the idea. All are great and it really depends on your tastes. They always have three truffles cut up as samples so you can taste a small selection but at a cost under $3. a truffle you can't go wrong. They even have a truffle vending machine in case you get here after hours. Look for th big wooden chubby chipmunk out front.

    2009 Seattle Chocolate Salon Review

2009 Seattle Chocolate Salon Review Many plates of small spoons filled with different fillings and topped with small pieces of chocolate to match the full size truffles (available for sale). Key Lime - The friendly staffer saw how much I enjoyed the white chocolate topped spoon (I was actually walking in New York City at a street fair enjoying Key Lime Pie on a stick) that she scooped up some filling and topped it with a dark chocolate piece... KILLER!!! Moose Toffee - pure British sticky toffee puddling flavor with awesome dark chocolate goodness. Very friendly booth with ample samples, plenty of product to sell at a great price, and very encouraging of repeat samplers :-)!

Marvelous chocolate. There is a vending machine outside the store, so bring some dollar bills during closing hours.

My wife ordered the Chicken Primavera with gluten free penne, featuring grilled chicken, pesto, and carrots. It was excellent and easily the standout dish of the evening. I had the grilled salmon, which was cooked well and was also very good. As always, we put restaurants through a bit of a stress test. My wife has gluten and dairy allergies, while I manage Alpha Gal syndrome, a tree nut allergy, and diabetes. The kitchen was able to accommodate the gluten free pasta request, which we appreciated. The atmosphere is one of the restaurant's biggest strengths. The historic building and the old photographs covering the walls make for a fun dining experience and really add to the character of the place. Service was just okay. Nothing was wrong, but it also wasn't particularly memorable. One thing worth knowing before you go: the restaurant adds a 4% surcharge for credit card payments, so if you'd rather avoid the extra fee, bring cash. Overall, we will probably pick something else a try if we return to Deadwood. Worth it if you are heading there just for the historic atmosphere. It's a great stop if you're spending time in Deadwood.

Their signature cocktail menu included many different options. If you're ever in Deadwood, I highly suggest stopping by there. The service is also amazing.

Fun place for a burger and beer…read more Food in Deadwood is not for gourmands, so save yourself the time and money and go to Mustang Sally's for a straightforward meal. They even have a full bar! This is a sports bar, and they have the cool option to have a half portion of an appetizer instead of fries for a $3 upcharge. My husband was delighted to be able to have fried mushrooms as his side. The kids and husband had milkshakes, and they were made quickly, and everyone loved them. They have a bunch of local beers. I enjoyed my Rapid City made beer and enjoyed a sip of my husband's Spearfish beer. I had a burger, which was perfect. The fries were good. I also had some of my daughter's hot wings. They were meaty and spicy. I loved them, although I wish they had come with celery sticks. Not a big deal, though. The restaurant is decorated with old slot machines, which were fun for the kids to look at while we waited for our food.

After a long day of traveling, we called to place a takeout order about 30 minutes before closing. The employee who took our order, a woman in a green shirt, listened while my sister and I ordered, then let out a loud, frustrated sigh and said, "Ugh... is that it then?" Her tone made it very clear that our order was an inconvenience. When I arrived to pick up and pay, I stood at the counter much longer than I should have, and it became obvious I was being ignored. The woman in the green shirt who had taken our order made eye contact with me multiple times but continued to act as if I wasn't standing there. There were three employees behind the counter, yet none of them acknowledged me. The only person who finally came over to help was a kind woman who had been sweeping on the other side of the restaurant. She stopped what she was doing because no one else would. I have 13 years of waitressing experience, so I completely understand how frustrating last-minute orders before closing can be. However, that's never an excuse to treat paying customers with disrespect. We called before closing, were polite throughout the interaction, and simply expected basic customer service. If taking an order 30 minutes before closing and acknowledging a customer at the counter is too much to ask, then maybe customer service isn't the right fit. Being busy is understandable. Being rude and pretending customers don't exist isn't. Needless to say, we won't be back.
