Nestled in the historical Deadwood is Jacob's Brewhouse. If you're in the mood for great food and a fantastic selection of beer, this is your jam. Our service was great. The food was really good. We had fish and chips, bison burger and a pastrami burger. Messy is good, real good. The beer we tried was the Irish ale and raspberry ale. Both were very good. Parking in the rear can be a little confusing. The machines screens are terrible. Not the establishments fault. Our server was so helpful and showed me the app to get to pay for parking. If I could give no stars I would. Alexandra at the hostess desk was charming & helpful. Know this cause waited 45 min for a table to "let the kitchen catch up". Then when we got seated, no attention for 10 minutes. Guests around us were leaving saying they had already waited 45 minutes to get food. When we finally saw a server he told us would be 40 minutes. Unfortunately, while the food was pretty good and the service was very good, a barking dog was allowed to stay inside the restaurant with their owners at the table next to us. The dog literally barked and whined through our entire meal, which was disruptive, unsettling, and unpleasant, not just to us but to three other tables in the same section. Big fan of this little brewhouse! The cute, musical decor has you wanting to walk around and look at everything like you're in an old school Hard Rock Cafe, but also homey. There is a patio area, weather permitting. Lots of drink options. We started with a round of waters and mimosas... the mimosas went down quick so we all were back at the menu figuring out what was next! I went with the Huckleberry Mule (I mean how can you not go with the huckleberry option when you're in this part of the country?!) -- it was deliciously refreshing! We started with the chislic, which is always a staple in South Dakota. A little different than the typical OG flash fried version. Didn't seem fried in any sense and had blue cheese mixed in with it, along with a side of some kind of dill dipping sauce that was delicious. Great flavor and a nice upscale spin on a local favorite. For the main course I went with the Walleye! Where I'm from you can't get it so I was pumped it was on the menu. It's a white flakey fish that was fried to perfection with great flavor! The fries it comes with were decent, nothing to write home about, but might as well add it to the letter because you'll be writing for days after eating the walleye. In addition, we got the kids homemade Mac & Cheese (I can never pass Mac & Cheese up if it's homemade)! Just really tasty! We started with the soup and the flavor was outstanding! I had to try Chislic(marinated sirloin tips) which seems to be a local favorite menu item and my husband got the SD Stampede bison burger! He liked the burger but we LOVED the Chislic! So flavorful and tender! The fries were good but could've been a tiny bit hotter! The atmosphere is very cool! Lots of guitars and band memorabilia! Very cool shop in between the restaurant and the bar. It was just after opening on a Sunday, so we had our choice of places to sit and definitely the best server: Justin! This place was a major disappointment. It was our favorite place our last visit 4 years ago, where the buffalo burgers were outstanding. Fries used to also be outrageously delicious and plentiful, with everything pouring off the plate. Portion size has seriously gone through some major shrinkage here. Potato-wise and meat-wise. I almost never eat meat, but do when it's wild game. Although the burger was still flavorful, we both noticed a big difference in the size. Our last trip we ate here numerous times, and this trip we only went there once in 7 days. Service was ridiculously slow when there was no one in there. We got there at 4:45, before the dinner rush. We were seated upstairs, so the server had to go up and down a lot. He forgot my salad, which I wanted before the burger came out. We had to ask for every little thing: ketchup, napkins, silverware. 10/10 if I could!!! First off, our server was the sweetest!! I wish I had gotten her name. She recommend the blackberry flatbread that is easily in the top 5 best things I've ever eaten!!! And she also got me a sample of her favorite beer which was the Kenny pepper. It was so good. Not spicy but the taste of jalapeño. We got the fried pbj for our little and that was so god too!! If you're in the area, please do yourself a favor and stop here. Between the two of us we tried the chislic for an appetizer, the pork steak, and the autumn harvest burger. The pork steak was out of this world incredible--the best either of us have ever tasted. The burger was honestly one of the best I've ever had. The staff are all super friendly and kind. Shawna in particular was fantastic--helpful, funny, and knowledgeable about the area. The place itself is fun and has two walls of guitars from legendary musicians that would make any collector faint, or at least drool. It is a perfect gem of a place! Service was subpar. Had to grab attention of someone else (not server) to send salad back and that was only went they brought our food back. Great dinner place with thoughtful decorations. Menu is only has about 6 entrees and all items were priced high. It is a small town so the cost to operate is probably higher. I had the brisket nachos which were $25 but only had a few pieces of brisket. Flavor was good but small. The roasted vegetable was great and had great flavor! We had called a few hours prior and the person answer the phone didn't know if they took reservations and told us "I guess you can just show up and hope for the best". I was expecting either a 'yes' or 'no' for the reservations. They also didn't have a high chair for most of the meal and I had to ask 3 times to get it as every person kept forgetting to look. Cheese sauce rather than cheese but the brisket was ok. Huge chunks of jalapeños which was weird. Salsa had a spaghetti sauce flavor that I've experienced in other restaurants around here so maybe it's a thing. I got the teriyaki bowl with chicken. The chicken was good quality and tender but the sauce was not great, and the bowl was drenched with it. There was a layer of it that could not permeate the rice, which had been cooked to mush. Being a fan of Jacob's I have to say I was very disappointed for a couple of reasons today. First staff allowed several couples with large dogs to come inside . I have no problem outside but inside especially when one couple said their German shepherd didn't like other dogs I draw the line. Just as our server was bringing our meal two dogs got into the typical territorial barking. This echoed from wall to wall and ceiling to floor. This was so un nerving that it took both of us a while to settle our nerves to eat. If you are going to advertise gourmet burgers you shouldn't use pre pressed meat. They should be hand formed Mine was hard and so very dry. My husband had the pastrami cheesesteak. He loved it but the pastrami was such a thin layer it hardly covered the roll. This place is absolutely amazing! The ambiance is very upscale, but laid back at the same time. I got their flight and pork steak and it was incredibly delicious. They have great service as well. There's so many options that I want to come back to just try everything on the menu. The location divides into a restaurant, grocery store and bar.
