We had an amazing first visit and were instantly impressed! We even got to meet the chef, and the entire staff was welcoming, friendly, and on point. My son is always chasing the best food hot spots around the San Bernardino area, so when we saw how busy it was on a Friday night, we knew we had to see what the hype was about. My husband and I recently stopped into Chubby's Hot Chicken for the first time after seeing some videos on social media about them. Definitely a solid spot for some hot chicken in Fontana. We came in on a weekday around dinner and they were pretty empty. Staff were friendly and patient with our questions. Service overall was efficient and the wait time for our food was low since there weren't a lot of diners at the time of our visit. The establishment overall also seemed to be clean and well-maintained. We were pleased with our meal. Our order consisted of a Mild #1 (two sandwiches and fries) and a Lite #4 (two tenders and fries). The chicken was tasty on both combos: fried crispy and juicy on the inside. Definitely good size pieces in the sandwiches and tender combos. The only gripe we have is that the spice level seemed to be off. The tenders were ordered to be 'lite' spice, but there was honestly no difference between that spice level and the 'mild' spice level in the sandwiches. I have a pretty low tolerance for spicy food and can handle a little kick. I could barely finish the two tenders and had to give most of the second one to my husband. Pricing seemed to be competitive with other hot chicken spots in the area. Other than the spice discrepancy, we were pleased overall with our first experience at Chubby's Hot Chicken. I was skeptical of the high ratings but I like their chicken. The chicken tender was good. The burger was also good but the chicken becomes soggy with the cole slaw and pickles in it. Id come back for the chicken tender and the delicious fries with thousand island sauce. They were well seasoned. I was not into their mac & cheese as it tasted like Kraft cheese and it was too mushy. Something was missing. I tried their $2 dollar spicy cheese sauce and it tasted like spicy nacho cheese. It had a kick but I had no desire to finish this. The chicken was nice and hot when I ate it there. It was crispy outside, soft inside, and very spicy after taste. I had the Hot flavor and the Crying flavor. Crying made my nose cry. I order the mild heat for both the Sando and tender (this was the only complaint I had, the mild felt like very hot, so make sure you tell them to keep it low on the heat if you can't do spicy. Other than that the sandwich was fresh, juicy, the slaw worked perfectly (I would've preferred a bit more pickles), the tender was also very tasty, seasoned well but man spicyyyy!. I visited this location for the first time today and tried the sandwich and a tender with the smoked chubby heat level (which was perfectly spicy for my taste), and it was delicious! The chicken is flavorful both on the inside and out, and the batter was perfectly crispy. The service here is also great! As soon as I walked through the door I was greeted by the friendly cashier, and even as I was eating my meal, I was checked on by the staff if I needed anything else. The Mac and cheese was also delicious, it was packed full of flavor and perfectly cheesy! The pickles were a huge letdown though. The best way to describe it is a soggy cucumber that was drenched in mild salt water. If it was sour and crunchy it would have made the sandwich so much more enjoyable. The chubby heat level was tolerable but I'd probably get something less spicy next time because I couldn't really enjoy the flavors. Revenge spice level tender - got it just for fun but I wouldn't get it ever again. It tasted burnt. The spices in here is insane. It is the type that gets spicy the more you eat it.
