I've been wanting to try this chain for a while. The best way I can describe it is it taste like a deep fried spicy Pollo Loco chicken with KFC type skin. The seasoning and spices were all throughout the chicken. I got the three-piece meal and the rice and beans were tasty. Beans had a kick to them. The menu seems limited, but I wasn't overwhelmed with options of combinations. Staff was very nice and helpful. The location was clean. The only thing keeping this from being a five star is, I felt like the price was a little high for what I received. But the quality of the food was very good. Tried this place on a whim with the family, getting an 8 piece grilled chicken combo with yuca fries and plaintains to go. Once we home and took our first bites, O.M.G.! The flavors were bursting our of the juicy, perfectly cooked chicken! They included some packets of sauce but we never touched them, the seasonings on the chicken was perfect alone. My first encounter with Pollo Campero was at its Covina location. Ever since then, I fell in love with their fried chicken. I've been in search for their other locations. When I found out they have a location in Fontana, I had to make my way here so here I am... It's conveniently located in the Sierra Lakes Parkway area close to the 210 Fwy. I went thru drive-thru. There was no other car in front of me at the time. I ordered the 3 piece fried chicken meal with yucca fries plus water. Chicken was very moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. Seasoning was so on point! I don't know what they put in that batter, but it is very delicious! Yucca fries were good, too. Water was refreshing! Staff was okay. Service was very quick. I ate at this location this past week and had the worst experience. To start, the tables were dirty with food particles. There were dirty napkins and fries on the floor. I had to ask the store employee, possibly a manager, to wipe down the table. I went back to ask for a cup lid and was asked why I wanted a lid. POOR / STREET TYPE customer service. I also got a three piece chicken nugget meal with fries and a mango drink. The kids meal was served cold and the fries were not warm at all. You would think the food would be fresh since it's the first day and the lines were long. The fried chicken was mediocre. The grilled chicken had a funky smell. We have had polio campero in the South Bay before and this is nothing like I remember it. I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. Just wasn't impressed at all. Overall a very disappointing meal. I feel like it could've been better, so what better way to rate it per Yelp's two star overview "could've been better" My excitement remained throughout the build process, up to when they opened! I've lived down the street since 2016 and have slowly seen the development of buildings and businesses. And when it comes to food, its a much needed addition in Fontana. As Fontana is flooded with your typical "truck stop" food scene. It is needed, meaning true diversity of food - and not just Mc Donalds, Jack in the box, etc. So a new chicken spot in the area? That is a bonus for the community. Polo campero is heavily populated in Los Angeles - and usually rewarding! Over the years, they've drastically changed their menu, and I believe with best efforts and intentions to cater to a larger audience, though I feel by doing so, they lost their core strength. I remember seeing them growing up in just about every Curacao haha. Now they're more than just fried chicken, they have grilled chicken, sandwiches, dessert, salads, etc. Their Chicken today wasn't bad - crispy, but it was dry too. Flavor wise, unique, I feel like that has changed over the years too! Their bread is beyond sad, it taste like cafeteria bread, super dry, and most certainly not cooked onsite. Their fries were decent, the macaroni was decent, and their beans were meh. The plantains weren't bad. Overall, for the price you're paying today and the quality/taste, it's mediocre and leaves you heavily questioning why you paid so much or why you'd ever return here versus going to a church chicken as an example. It is my hope that as time goes on, they refine their cooking skills, their new staff develops the needed talent and that customers can feel like they're getting good value in exchange for the amount being charged.
