The steak consisted of high quality beef, onions and hot peppers cooked in with just the right amount of cheese. You have your choice of seeded or non seeded roll and the roll did not disappoint. I give this establishment a perfect score for the simple fact that manager/bartender Jen is back to work after being sidelined by a work accident. The food here has always been top notch, atmosphere romantic, but it's unbelievable how much better the experience is with professional service. Jen, even though extremely busy was very engaging in conversation and explaining drink prep. I used to go here as my 'go to' place for a cheesesteak and beer, and leave, but with the service Jen provided, I will find myself exploring all facets of the menu and enjoying a smoked cocktail. I visited last night Sunday, October 5, '25 and even purchased a jar of the locally made dark cherries. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and will be back. First time visit for dinner at Chubby's and it did not disappoint. Joined friends for a birthday celebration and Chubby's had been on their list to try for a while. The ambiance was inviting and relaxing, the noise level was not too bad for the space and a full house of diners and several at the bar. Chubby's is not a BYOB so for our foursome we went with the Caposaldo, Prosecco from Venito Italy to enjoy with our appetizer of Sicilian Calamari, it was breaded, lightly fried with onions & hot cherry peppers and 2 Sauces: marinara and white wine lemon, capers, black olives. We enjoyed the 2020 Ravenswood Old Vine Zinfandel, Lodi, Central Valley with our dinner. I went with the Gourmet Crab Cakes, as described on the menu, they did have lump crab meat binded with a shrimp mousse with cornichon & caper remoulade, they were served roasted garlic mashed potatoes & wilted spinach. The Land and Sea was another dish at our table, and it consisted of an 8 oz filet mignon topped with a 5 oz butter poached lobster tail, served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes & grilled asparagus. To finish out our meal, a large oversized chocolate cake and equal sized carrot cake made the cut, both were enjoyed by all, accompanied by coffle and espresso. You walk into a bar area into the right is a small restaurant with about 10 or so tables. The restaurant is dimly lit to create that steakhouse vibe. We had reservations, but the table was not ready so we opted to have a drink at the bar. we started the night with two chubby Manhattans. The drinks were smoked and had generous amount of booze very good. Our table was ready. We headed to the dining room wasn't terribly crowded, and they had a jazz duo playing. We started with the calamari and the prime rib spring rolls. The calamari was fried perfectly, and tasted good. I recommend getting both sauces. The scampi sauce was a very good addition to dip the calamari. The prime rib spring rolls were very good catchup was also spicy which was a nice surprise. We both opted for the prime rib special 12 ounce. This comes with a baked potato. There also were asparagus on the plate. The asparagus were not necessary, especially since they were grilled and burnt. Made them very unappealing. We also got the cream spinach, which was the star of the show. It was very savory with some loose cream sauce, but so good . We were fairly full by the time we finished dinner and didn't have time or room for dessert. We did have to take the carrot cake to go. The price of the restaurant is fairly high for its location however, judging by the menu, it's been open since 1933. That being said, I'm fairly sure it's a nostalgic place for people who live around there. All in 198.00 for food . My husband and I went to chubby's for our anniversary. We started with the wedge. We should have shared.. but he never wants to share his wedge. It was very good. We got the smaller portion. It was still large. The dressing was great. It was a tad heavy on the dressing. I had the peach tea cocktail. I don't drink often, so I felt a bit tipsy but it didn't taste like alchohol at all. Next, I debated on a few options but settled on the lobster and filet. The filet was more med rare than medium.. but it was good. And the lobster was cooked well. Garlic mashed Potatos were great. I ate too many and couldn't finish my steak. It came with asparagus, which I love. But it wasn't really seasoned. So I didnt eat it. Then we shared chocolate cake, but took most home with us. Took the wife here for Valentine's Day. Made a reservation for 7:30 pm. Parking was not bad (street parking, be prepared to parallel park). They took us right when we walked in. Had a nice table in the back. Server was on top of all our needs. They started by bringing out Salted (almost pretzel like) and regular bread with honey and chive butter. For starters we ordered BANG BANG SHRIMP....grilled jumbo shrimp basted with a sweet chili sauce and PRIME RIB SPRING ROLLS ..thin sliced prime rib, caramelized onions, truffle mushrooms & cooper sharp american cheese; served with a side of spicy cherry pepper ketchup. For meals we had 16 oz RIBEYE served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes; 9oz FILET MIGNON served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and PAN ROASTED HALF CHICKEN .. partially-boned & brined; served with herb butter, roasted garlic mashed potatoes & grilled asparagus. Me and the my friends love a good steak house and this place, right the heart of Gloucester City was great. The ambiance was nice, when me and my wife walked in, we were greeted, however, when i looked to the right of me, they had a live bank playing some great soothing music. They have a in-house bar that you can sit at if you are just walking in, however, I don't know if you would have found a seat last night because they were all taken, and I totally understand why. The ambiance was good, and the drinks were great. Now when you first walk in, you think, man this place is a nice little spot, however, don't let that fool you. They have more than one floor, which was amazing. We ended up on another floor, and although we couldn't hear the band, we are a loud group, so it really worked in our favor and my brother brought his iPAD so that we could see the Tyson vs Paul fight. The food was beyond my expectations. I means, we started off as with any restaurant, with bread and butter. However, this was not just no ordinary bread and butter. All of it was homemade. There were like four (4) different kinds of bread that were nice and soft with good taste. The butter, you just wanted them to bring up the biggest cup they had for it because it was really really good. It was their on homemade honey, garlic butter. The cowboy steak topped with crab meat in oscar sauce, and asparagus was splendid. The extra dirty martini was perfect and consisted of homemade blue cheese olives, ugh, they were so good. Now, for desert me and my wife shared homemade creme brûlée which was perfect for two. All deserts, breads, and butters are homemade, you just can't go wrong here. We went Saturday night around 5:00, so they were just starting their dinner rush. I've worked in a restaurant before, so I'm familiar with how things are supposed to work, and I always try to give servers the benefit of the doubt. We sat at the bar because we were going to share a steak, and we don't take a table when we share a meal. The bar tender took forever to greet us and to give us menus, and they weren't busy yet. My drink was made incorrectly, though when I asked, I was assured my drink was smoky. Trust me, it wasn't. We ordered oysters, and we told the bartender we were going to share bone in Kansas City ribeye, which came with mashed potatoes, and we ordered asparagus as a side. We waited 20-25 minutes, and everything came out together, and the steak and potatoes weren't split up on separate dishes (we ate at Capital Grill recently, same situation, and without asking, they split our steak and put it on 2 dishes) I asked for a glass of wine, and because the bar wasn't properly stocked, the wine wasn't chilled, so I didn't get the wine, nor was I asked if I would like a different kind of wine. This was our second time there, and I like to patronize smaller restaurants like this, but I don't think we'll be going back. I had a reservation for New Year's Eve which was also our 17th wedding anniversary. It was advertised as a prix fixe 4-course menu for $115 PP including gratuity and a complimentary glass of champagne. After being seated a frigid blast of air began to blow on our legs from underneath the table. When I told the waitress about it she proceeded to crawl under the table to cover the vent with napkins to prevent freezing us out. It only worked slightly. Our first course was served which consisted of. Calamari and prime rib spring rolls. The spring rolls were burnt and the calamari was ice cold. Second course was a traditional Wedge salad and a French onion soup. My wife's wedge was just ok and quite small but the French onion was actually delicious. Our entrees followed. I had the prime rib which was very good. But my wife ordered the crab cake stuffed bronzino. Which at best can be described as nauseating. I don't know how a chef could plate that and serve it covered top to bottom in fish skin and a greasy oily sauce that looked like human excrement. It was a disaster. Her vegetables which the server pushed on her to order were disgusting and dried out and the Brussel sprouts were unrecognizable. She Attempted to send the ice cold plate back thinking after heating it that it may be better. Unfortunately it was worse and left uneaten. Dessert followed. I ordered coffee and my wife cappuccino. My coffee mug was less than halfway full and cold. And by the way, our complementary champagne was served in a wine glass, which just should not be At this point I just wanted to leave. Our night was almost destroyed. Upon receiving the bill they did make an attempt the compensate by taking the drinks off the check. However a restaurant charging $115 for a prix fixe menu should have removed my wife's food altogether. And I forgot to mention one of the desert choice was crème brûlée which of course they ran out of. As if it couldn't get worse I reviewed the bill and there was no gratuity included. The advertisement clearly said it was included. When I questioned the waitress she informed me it was not included and I paid the bill and ran for my life. We made 5:00 pm reservations and the place was just opening so the place was empty. We were seated and it was a2 top table placed right next to another 2 top almost making the table a 4 top. Not an issue at first but it came to find out that another person was seated at that table ( she stepped away while we were seated). This was our anniversary dinner and it felt like we had a third wheel with us. She kept falling asleep and mumbling jibberish due to her being intoxicated. The meal came and it was ok but not worth the money we spent. I have no idea why we were seated next to her instead of another table to ourselves and it was not due to our being crowded. From the moment the rolls and butter were served, we knew we were in for an amazing treat. The soup of the day was a shrimp corn chowder and it was divine-nice thick consistency and perfect blend of flavors. The side portion of the wedge salad was also a table favorite. The steaks all came out perfect-ribeye, NY strip, and filet. The glazed carrots were the greatest carrots I've ever eaten. My wife and I went to Chubby's on Easter and had a tremendous meal. From being greeted at the door through dessert there were only a couple of hiccups which were minor. We started off with drinks, my wife has Jim Beam and Ginger ale and I had an Old Fashioned. Both drinks were meh, no undrinkable but I have had better, something just seemed off. We ordered the French Onion soup - great call. The soup was fantastic, it had a unique taste but it tasted very good. We both ordered the Ribeye, mine med-rare and my wife medium. The only hiccup is the food server (not our waitress) gave us the wrong one. No big deal, they both tasted tremendous. One of the best Ribeye's we have had in a looong time. Although we were sufficiently full (neither of us fully finished our steaks) we ordered the Creme Brulee. Another good call, very good. The only other hiccup is I ordered an espresso with my dessert and I got a "espresso K cup" which wasn't very good. We will definitely be back! read more

So after looking over the menu I figured we were in for a treat. Appetizers. We ordered everything except the oysters. The Filet Crostini was excellent. I should have ordered 3 for myself and called it a night. Lobster mac n cheese..don't bother, so sad. My brother in law ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp and seemed happy but it's Bang Bang Shrimp. Sicilian Calamari was a let down. Fried probably frozen with two sad excuses for side sauces. Marinara and what they called a scampi...go ahead I dare you. The biggest flop was the "Prime Rib Spring Rolls" and we ordered two for the table because apparently people think these are great. First, I can't believe I fell for it but "prime rib spring roll" is code for cheesesteak egg roll. Second, who is it that thinks this is good? Maybe after a couple beers a sports bar, but how does this garbage get on the menu at a supposed 5 star steakhouse. Dinner. My wife and her brother ordered the Ribeye, Hers was flavorful, get the Gorgonzola Butter. He orders his medium well...need I say more. She added the lobster tail and No lie we didn't see it when they set her plate down. She stopped the waiter before we realized it was there hiding in between the steak and potatoes. My friend ordered the Porterhouse which looked excellent, and was a nice size. He said he enjoyed it and I wish I had ordered the same. Instead I got a really sad excuse for a Prime Rib. Think wedding dinner. The whole thing was so forgettable I don't even recall what anyone else ate for dinner. Steak fries, nope, think house fire. Asparagus is safe. If you somehow end up here, pass on the creamed spinach, you'll thank me. Take into account "it's good" and "yeah, yeah" behind a half hearted smile amongst polite friends and family at a nice restaurant isn't necessarily a compliment so we decided to quit while we were ahead and passed on coffee and dessert.
