This is a nice family event, just outside of Indianapolis. They normally hold it at Anson Acres…read morePark, annually, over a weekend in late April/ early May. It has tons of space and has a nice set up. Tickets are $5 per person, with kids 2 and under free. Tickets can be purchased on line or at the gate with cash or card. Parking here is easy, but you may have to walk a bit to get to the gate. I had about a half to quarter mile walk. They have inflatables available for the littles to play, but they were uncomfortably packed. My littles still had a good time playing on them though. The festival is full of food and drink vendors as well as merchandise vendors. You can purchase live action role play (LARP) swords, horns, furs, cups, soap, honey, turkey legs, root beer, lemon or strawberry shake-ups, burgers and fries. There is a stage where they have a Celtic band playing as well as other acts like belly dancers and speakers. They also have a ring in the center of the field where they host LARP battles, next to the field is a fire that was pretty much blowing annoying smoke while I was there. Near the food vendors and to the side of the stage, there are picnic tables under a shelter and tall tables placed in the open field. There are a few spaces that are designated for kids to learn how to sword fight with the LARP swords and learn how to use them. A little walk from the vendors and demo area is what they call Viking village. I think the role players actually live there over the weekend. The have a falcon and hawk handler back there and you will see them doing stuff like actually making dinner and marching to the LARP arena on the other side of the park. The park has a restroom facility, but the organizers have also added some port-a-pottys around the park for visitors. It was a good number because I did not have to wait to use them. For those of you that ate your Wheaties, the organizers host a keg throwing contest for kids, women and men. They use different sizes for different groups with the kids throwing a skillet and the men throwing a full size keg. There is also opportunities for adults to participate in archery and axe throwing. If you do visit, I will recommend a couple of things. First, get there early. You will get a better parking spot and have less of a crowd. Second bring one of those bag chairs. Seating here is limited and goes very quickly. Also, there are refills available on the shake-ups that you can get for almost half the price of the original purchase. Make sure to get your money's worth. Lastly, be aware that the merchandise you can be here is nice, but can be very expensive. I spent almost a $100 for a horn cup with a belt holster for one of my littles. This was a nice day and something different for my littles and I to do. The littles and I stayed here most of the day and the only thing that got us to leave was that they had to shut down due to lightning strikes nearby. I highly recommend checking out this event. At $5 per person, with free parking, it is a deal. You will definitely have lots of fun here. I cannot wait until next year.

A recommendation is to have filter water from new sensored bottle water fountains by the center restrooms and actually near each restroom area. I've got beef with Carmel Dad's Club, but I won't let that take away from the fact that this sports complex is great. See how fair I am? I am so unbelievably fair and nonpartisan. My family and I have been to Alleto for soccer games, and the fields are always very well tended and nice. During the warmer months when soccer games are going on, there's a concession stand that's open where you can get your little snacks. Recently, we were inside the indoor facility for basketball. There's also a snack bar inside, with popcorn and sodas and things. We visited at the end of the day, and popcorn was all over the floor near the bleachers, and it was kind of gross. But the basketball courts are nice. Alleto is also the location for Carmel's popular Firefighter for a Day camp, and is also the place where Carmel Dad's Club takes sports photos. I'm sure there are lots of other things that go on here, but those are the only things that I've visited Alleto for. Basically, if you live in Carmel and you have children, and those children play sports with Carmel Dad's Club, you will eventually end up visiting Alleto at some point. It's a main sports hub in Carmel.

Winterlights is an enchanting experience that I look forward to every year along with Harvest Nights and Art in Bloom. This year was extra special because I was able to score tickets to the Behind the Scenes tour. It's truly spectacular to wander around the grounds after dark to enjoy the extraordinary display of holiday lights and decor. I will definitely return every winter to see what changes they make (each year has some variations). The Lily house decorations are always incredible. So much dedication and thoughtfulness put into the handmade displays and attention to detail is unparalleled. Grab a hot chocolate or cider and a friend or lover to celebrate the holiday season at Winterlights as soon as possible. It's a must see!

My favorite was the daschund races obviously. We got to the "arena" area about 20 minutes early with our beer and got front row seats - so worth it!! They are so cute and it is so fun. The stein holding contest was also very impressive and fun to watch. We danced at the Rathskeller, cheered along to live music, and saw lots of people we knew. Looking forward to this next year!

Went to Germanfest today. I had a couple tickets waiting for me that I won from @YelpIndy. There…read morewas confusion by everyone around the ticketing and also they could not find my tickets. People waited in line for wrist bands only to find out they needed to go to the podium first to get a ticket. This is the 13th year for this event I would think things like this would be worked out. I found a parking spot about a half a block away so that worked out well. I had a nice time. I talked to a lot of nice folks. I ate some good food. I really enjoyed my potato pancakes with sour cream. I do not drink beer but they also had wine and regular cocktails. They had German music and everyone really enjoyed it. They had weiner dog races but it was very crowded around the track and I did not get to see them but I did see plenty walking around the event. They had several vendors and I purchased a hat for my grandchild. I had fun and also enjoyed a meal at The Rathskeller.
